Lyrics:
MY FRIEND OF MISERY
You just stood there screaming
Fearing no one was listening to you
They say the empty can rattles the most
The sound of your own voice must soothe you
Hearing only what you want to hear and knowing only what you’ve heard
You, you’re smothered in tragedy
You’re out to save the world
Misery
You insist that the weight of the world
Should be on your shoulders
Misery
There’s much more to life than what you see
My friend of misery
You still stood there screaming
No one caring about these words you tell
My friend before your voice is gone
One man’s fun is another’s hell
These times are sent to try men’s souls
But something’s wrong with all you see
You, you’ll take it on all yourself
Remember, misery loves company
Misery
You insist that the weight of the world
Should be on your shoulders
Misery
There’s much more to life than what you see
My friend of misery
You just stood there creaming
My friend of misery
I am a die hard Metallica fan since 1982. The Blacklist is one of the most interesting projects I have ever heard. It has me opening up my ears and my mind to artists that I never would have sought out. I haven't liked them all, but I can appreciate most of them. I just never imagined the angry young band I saw at The Stone in San Francisco in 1983 would be this influential - it's cool.
The Weezer Enter Sandman cover with the little bit from Buddy Holly was great.
Metallica's been covered for Decades. Lets not forget Apocalpytca.
@@PopeTheRevXXVIII Oh I know. I have listened to covers from everyone - Cannibal Corpse, Motorhead, The Hu Band (can't wait to hear them on Through The Never) etc. I just like how they are all grouped together for this album. Not a super fan of symphonic metal... plus I miss the vocals with Apocalyptica. The only cover I have legitimately hated so far was J Balvin - that one hurt.
@@pastorofmuppets13 How Beatallica the brilliant mashing of the Beatles and Metallica?
Lars is still angry after all these years lol
@@UnforgivenIV I will - thanks!
Sounds like a James Bond movie intro. Well done!
Jazz and Metal need to meet more often
i mean…
They do if you look for it...
@@ChurchofPirateology Anima Tempo is all I've stumbled on

this is NOT what i was expecting........... THIS IS AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I'm sorry Kamasi but now you need to do a whole album like this. Your fault for letting us hear how awesome it would be.
This is amazing, a full reimagining of the song. Absolutely love it...and why the hell not put it in 7! Kamasi and team are just fire!
wow, don't stop kamasi! (love from brazil)
Holy SHIT that was amazing.
First time I've heard Jazz + Metallica, and I LOVED IT.
Please just record all of the other tracks and release a separate "Jazz Black Album" 😁
Simply STUNNING! At this point... This is my favourite Metallica Blacklists song.
I didn't even realize you were part of this, but amazing to hear so!
Bravo ... The best song from the blacklist... long live to Kamasi and company..
That drummer tho, got damn.
Sounds like Ronald Bruner on the drums but I could be wrong
My two worlds colliding.. I am complete.
" Του άλλαξε τα πετρέλαια " superb Kamasi . One of my favourites
I’m late to the game!!! This DRUMMER!!! ❤
Who are the other instrumentalists??? Every sound everyone is making here is mental
Too good! mindblowing!!! congrats to this real musicians. Awesome work!
Ok. Yeah. Liking this in that jazzy sound. One of my favorite songs on The Black Album.
this goes so hard
the drummer is amazing!!!
Very nice cover, congrats ! So innovating from the original song ! I wish there were more like this on the Blacklist...
beautiful 😮
This is on hot track. Great job on the cover.
Good lord, this is nuts! Love it!
This is a spectacular interpretation.
Tha big K..... respect you have a true jazz..spirit.💥🔥💥🦁👍👍
The solos are superb
Carrie Mathison sent me here in a roundabout sort of way. A most excellent re-imagining of one of my favorite Metallica songs.
This is OUTSTANDING!
This is incredible!
Dude... you need to do more of this, please!
Best cover ever!!!
omfg this is so amazing, i need mor of this!
goddamn awesome
Wow
wow wow wow this blew me away
Beautiful
Cool version. I'd love to hear Sandman like this, that song is very tired and could use some new life
While Kamasi's music is completely jazz, it has a lot in common with successful music from other genres: solid, simple but creative structures given great performances. In this case, the other genre the successful music comes from is metal, and it's by Metallica. Kamasi treats it exactly as if it were his particular brand of West Coast Get Down jazz, and that works out very well.
If this shows up on that new Cowboy Bebop im not gonna even act surprised.........
Amazing to hear such strong drumming on a Metallica song
Brilliant 👏🏽
I love this!
This saved the Blacklist almost singlehandedly
Definitely a Shirley Bassey meets Portishead vibe! I need to know who this drummer is!? Stunning over the top chops! Kamasi's sax and the piano solo right up there too!
This is pretty groovy. Awesome.
Beautiful!!!!
GREAT!!
You won! Best Track!
WOW ITS SO GOOOODDDD
Tony Austins drumming IS my fucking tempo!
Fuck yea!!!
Damn!
Wonderful 😍😍😍👍
When I heard the "trap" version of Wherever I May Roam I hated it mainly for not being a cover at all and the fact that I don't like Trap had nothing to do with it, at least that's what I thought at the moment but now... this is bearly a cover but somehow I still like it. I want to think as myself as a fair judge of this kind of stuff but after all I'm biased and can't escape the fact that I like Jazz more than Trap...
"Trap"more like "crap", i mean the jbalvin version its just that. If you wanna listen real trap i recommend u the artist Apashe. "Work" and "Legend" are good examples of excellent trap music 👌
@@Jack_War I heard and enjoyed both tracks a lot although I would have thought that that kind of music was more akin to Hip-Hop than Trap, then again I'm not very knowledgeable of the genre. Thanks a lot for this great recomendations.
@@NicoDimov Trap is a subgenre of Hip-Hop. There’s some good trap, but trap is not very lyrically inclined and more about the vibe (outside of the lyrical rappers who’ve done some trap songs like Kendrick).
Holy shit. They made this their own.
I grew up with Metallica music and love their music. Not a fan of st anger tho. And this cover is awesome! This is sooo good! Great stuff! Totally original!
Oh papa Kamasi doing it again
Excelent!!
Wow! 😲🤘❤
*But first, you must acquire a taste for freeform jazz*
Strictly metal heads are going to hate it. But I love Jazz every bit as much as I love grinding screaming Deathcore and old school Thrash. This is a match made in heaven.
probably too difficult of a task for an average metallica fan
@@lukeisprvkt I love Metallica and I love Jazz. So...
The structure and parts are there--this isn't even close to freeform.
@@TheDeathofswing is a sponge bob joke...
Wow👌🏾🥳
awesome
Maravilhoso!
Wow it is cool

Tremendo!!!!
Nice!

You betta work, KW!
Can anybody tell me who the musicians are on this? Can't find the band credits anywhere
The saxophonist & arranger is Kamasi Washington. Very talented guy.
Yes sirrr
Sounds like the Soft Machine 😜

I NEED TO KNOW WHO PLAYS DRUMS ON THIS
Tony Austin
Lars
@@sanick4864 too funny!

TQM Kamasi
I think the thing that irks is that some people are calling this a "cover", which it obviously is not. Not even close - there is nothing musically that resembles the original song, which I think is a shame because Jason's baseline is iconic and would have made a great jumping off point for a jazz number, but that aside I find this "reinterpretation" as good as any other fusion/ jazz (sorry, I'm not up on my jazz terminology) piece of music I've ever heard.
the whole thing is based on Jason's bass line. Listen closely to the piano in this.
I just wanna feel real love.... Oh wait wrong song
I mean... Is taking a lyrics and making a whole new different song from it still a cover? 👀
It’s what it seems. It’s a completely different song. I don’t like when they do that, personally, but the song is amazing
I don't know if it makes sense, but I like to think that Kamasi made a cover of the emotions embedded in the original song.
@@JimbrasMermelevos yeah but i don't think you can call it a cover by any means.
@@alexislozano233 the emotions embedded in the original song is melancholy, world-pain and MISERY. I feel depressed every time I listen to that song. Did you feel any sort of misery here? Lmao the original song uses 2 main chords, Dm and Am, that's why it's freaking gloomy from the start. This is a good song but certainly nowhere near the original.
If you see the trailer for the blacklist album, it says 50 different renditions. Meaning they try to make it their own. Besides why do covers have to be exact copies? I like it better when I see other artists put their own spin on things.
It’s a completely different sound. I don’t like when jazzists do that, personally, but the song is amazing either way. It could be a whole new song, without calling it cover, though.
Jazzists lmfao
so your into stale covers that basically sound the same as the original? your musical ear lacking.
That was the main idea of the Metallica Blacklist.
@@lukeisprvkt “the song is amazing anyway”, didn’t you read? And I just expressed my feelings on the song, no need to be rude. You don’t even know me to say stuff like that, you arrogant :)
@@JesusMorales-dr1ie I know, I’m not saying it’s trash or anything, I just prefer when they keep stuff that makes the song recognizable (not just the lyrics). But, as I said, I liked the song, anyway.
DECENTE COVER.
EXCELENTE BATERÍA.
MARAVILLOSA ORQUESTACIÓN.
LA VOZ NO ME PARECIÓ PARA RESALTAR.
EN RESUMEN NADA DE OTRO MUNDO.
Like so many of these Blacklist covers, this is simply a completely original song with some Metallica lyrics shoehorned in.
Not a big fan of the vocal phrasing
This is not a cover, just some song with the Metallica lyrics sung over top.
WTF? GARBAGE!!! Now this is what selling out sounds like.
