INFO: The Mars Volta is an american progressive rock band from El Paso, Texas that formed in 2001. The band formed after the breakup of vocalist Cedric Bixler-Zavala’s and guitarist Omar Rodriguez-Lopez’s previous band At The Drive-in. They won a grammy in 2009 For Best Hard Rock Performance and the year before they were named Best Prog Rock Band by Rolling Stone Magazine. The band released a total of 6 studio albums throughout their career and on January 23, 2013, they decided to break up. But their music and legacy is far from over. On May 25 a fan asked Cedric if the band would ever come back. And he answered “It’s happening”. It’s unclear if he tweeted this out of thin air or if he was truly serious about it. After all, it’s twitter. But the band’s grandiose album concepts, striking cover art and versatile sound have nonetheless left a big impression on a lot of fans over the years, and with that said i think it’s time to re-visit their history and figure out why so many fans want them to return.
So from now on: Only videos on Qotsa, Foo Fighters, Deftones, Mastodon and The Mars Volta!
Can't say that that's a bad thing
Liked the video, and funny thing, i have qotsa and Mastodon as favorites too, the mars Volta i like for theyre wild licks and riffs.. God sommer fra en abonnent!
And the Melvins?
John Frusciante please
Ok then
I just came here to say Noctourniquet is criminally underrated
That's the album that I didn't give enough attention to and now every time I replay it I'm discovering something new to love.
I love Noctourniquet. Every album from them is always different from the next. And Noctourniquet was the pinnacle of everything they had done just more refined. I can't believe when so called fans want a band to write the same album Every time. Omar once said his goal was to alienate TMV fans with every new album. But us hardcore fans loved all of it. It's funny when someone says that album doesn't sound like TMV. How can it not they wrote it. Lol
True!
FUCK YES !!!!
Idk man Ikey wasn’t really in it and the songs weren’t anywhere as good as what came before.Molloch was like the only song I liked
I went to university in El Paso saw them a couple of times without realizing what they will become, i was a lucky man!!!
I love The Mars Volta so much. No other band sounds like them.
apart from king crimson
@@smittenthekitteninmittens2679 king crimson is is entirely different on their own lol
I really hope this comes to fruition. The idea of The Mars Volta shouldn't be dormant. It should always be moving and mutating.
Like king crimson
I discovered this band because of you, now Deloused in the Comatorium is one of my favorite albums. Thank you so much
Wow that's awesome! Thank you so much for watching in the first place. It means a lot. At The Drive-in is also a fantastic band to check out!
Wait a second, what happened to your other videos about this band and the Ian Curtis' one?
@@thom7433 Long story short, i had some copyright issues. Had to take down like 30 videos or so.
What a shame, keep it up buddy your videos are awesome
i was wondering the same thing. Fuck that shit.
I saw them live when they opened for A Perfect Circle about a decade ago. I had heard some of their music, knew the guitarist and singer were from ATDI, and knew what they looked like, but had no idea what to expect from their live show. I dont know if Ive ever been as positively surprised by a live show in my life. I still dont listen to a ton of The Mars Volta, but would drop my hard earned dollars to see them live any time.
No other band has challenged me more than Volta. The rewards were worth the patience. All time favorite band.
You must listen to boring music.
Check out the Locust, Tom Waits, Syd Barrett, Scott Walker’s Nite Flights, Bowie, Don Caballero, Drive Like Jehu, Slint, or Towers (the band from Philadelphia).
There’s tons of unique and interesting music out there.
I remember seeing The Mars Volta at The Filmore in 2005. I was front row and my ears were ringing for a week. Omar's guitar set up was absolutely insane.
Saw Mars Volta, 2006, Vegoose show in Las Vegas. If I recall right, the set list was 4 songs and the last song was 45 minutes long. It was like seeing a band on another planet.
You're a lucky guy
Ahhhhh, love that show.
@@radioactivetrees9626 there was some great bands that day. It was cool because I lived in the houses next to Sam Boyd and just walked over there. Racouteurs, Killers and Mars Volta performed some great sets that day.
Yes they were absolutely incredible band I saw them live 3 times in 2004, 2006 and 2010. They were amazing each time. The 2006 performance was my favourite it was just before Amputechture came out They played an extended version of Drunkship of Lanterns off of Deloused that was basically just a freestyle jam must have been about 25 to 30 mins of just incredible music I've never seen a band just click on stage like they did theirs albums are great but man were they good live...
Amputechture has been my all-time favorite record since I first heard it my freshmen year of high school in 2009. That still hasn't changed a decade later. The soundscapes they conjured up on there still leaves me in awe.
This is pretty much how and when I discovered them too and that album is still like a ticket to a new world.
One of the most amazing band that ever existed.
I really love The Mars Volta. ❤
Tuve la suerte de estar un par de veces con Omar Rodríguez. 💕
What happened to your old stuff stuff like understanding Ian Curtis,Cream, etc
Long story short: i had some copyright issues. Had to take em down.
@@LieLikesMusic oh ok thanks for replying
@@LieLikesMusic I know that Norway isn't in the EU, but from what I know due to the trade agreement with the EU some EU laws still, apply. Regardless, I am curious if Article 13 had anything to do with those videos being taken down?
I feel like I need to make a reply to this video called A Complete Introduction to The Mars Volta, because this is babyfood
Hopefully Jon Theodore will be on the new album...
The mars volta will always be my favorite band of all time.
Same. ♡
MR.NEVERSEEN Gaming second favorite for me!
wow i don’t think i’ve ever heard of a female who likes TMV
@@z0nnyyy we are a lot of girls loving TMV
It was bedlam in Goliath that got me into them and is still my favourite album from them
Honestly when i first listen to the album i hated it but after a few listens I have a really conection to it the lyrics and guitar bass and drums, keyboards everything!!!!bedlam is a great album top 1 album in my life
OF ALL THE WARNINGS THAT YOU GAVE ME!!!! WITH ALL COMPONENTS IN THE FAULT!!! Lol I love that album.
I can happily and proudly say that ever since i was nothing but a fetus, my dad showed me what At the Drive In and The Mars Volta is and i can never thank him enough :)))
Soon as he hit the ground
They lowered a tow that
Split both his lips to the gills.
Can’t listen to it without crying. Close friend killed himself right before we found the album. It helped me thru the shit.
Perfect band to cover during the summer. At The Drive In and The Mars Volta just makes so much sense during the summer.
I was literally just gonna listen to deloused in the comatorium when you uploaded keep up the good work
Haha that's awesome. I sure will. More videos on TMV is coming soon
@@LieLikesMusic please do more on TMV especially on the whole story on the bedlam in Goliath
Thanks for the video Sir. The Mars Volta is on my top 5 favorite bands of all time. I also wish they come back full force free to do whatever Omar wants to do.
The Mars Volta are a great band. I just relistened to The Bedlam in Goliath. It's a great album.
I love this band. Thanks for giving us this. Saw them live in Myrtle Beach. They melted the walls!
MEMORIES! i had my third apt in 2004, i was 20 , just broke up and was sleeping with random girls in my building, tons of drugs and just bought FRANces the Mute.what a great time TMV was like a soundtrack to 2004-05
Wanker
Became obsessed with the Mars Volta and At The Drive last year. A truly phenomenal band
You said it.
Lie Likes Music just out of curiosity, as both a QOTSA and Mara Volta fan, Theodore or Pridgen
@@MrSnuffian Oof that's a tough one. I think Theodore lived more up to his potential in The Mars Volta. Now if i had to choose one of them i'd pick Pridgen. Unconventional choice. But he did an other worldly performance on Bedlam.
Lie Likes Music I’d go opposite, I feel as though he over drums and it tends to muddy up some parts of songs. I think it’s the Yahoo sessions where they perform Tetragrammaton and after he does the intro Omar seems visibly annoyed after walking away form the drum kit.
What about Sparta?
I’ve been meaning to really try these guys out for a while now. Sense we’ve been wrong one of my ultimate favorites too
My dad introduced the Mars Volta to me and they are probably one of my favorite bands
Bruh fucking same.
First saw them in March 2003 in support to the Chili Peppers, before their first album was out, they were incredible. Saw again in 2009 in Edinburgh, absolutely epic.
I was an At the Drive In fan when they existed originally and there’s a couple things you got wrong.
For 1: the lineup was anything but constant. Cedric is currently the only original member. They’ve had 4 different drummers, 3 bassists, and 6 different guitarists. Omar was the bassist was their second bassist but then went to guitar when Jim Ward left for a brief time around 1996. Around 1998 they settled into the classic lineup.
2. Keeley Davis didn’t join the band until long after the Mars Volta had started.
It's surprising how many Volta fans don't know that Frances the mute( single ) syncs up with the Frances the mute album.
The Mars Volta, my favorite band... They blow up your brain in every album recorded... E V E R Y
I'm in love with Omar Rodriguez-Lopez! 😍
Rip ikey Owens.
Such a shame you had to remove your other Mars Volta videos they were awesome, never thought that would happen or else I would've saved them in some way. Wishful thinking you will redo them trying to avoid any of those copyright infringements. I wish you lots of luck, views and likes in all your future videos.
Frances the Mute is easily one of my all time favs! I hope focusing on your favorite bands is temporary however, sounds like you could run out of things to say ahout them quite quickly.
I swear Roulette Dares is one of the best songs I've ever listened to. Borderline perfect.
Your bands sound like some of my favorites too!!
Thanks dude, I really like this channel because I always discovere new bands, sow keep doing that kind of videos, and thanks again
i need to see they live before die or i never gonna rest in peace
I had the privilege of seeing them twice and there are no words for what I witnessed..
Why'd you make the other ones private?! It makes explaining their music so easy!!!
am i the only one that has Noctourniquet as his fav tmv album?
Same here, its both powerful and beautiful..
I remember listening to Bedlam in Goliath when it was released and being completely lost; I really couldn't grasp the sound so for years I ignored the Mars Volta until earlier this year, I started with Comatorium and made my way through their years. I was completely blown away though I still can't get into Goliath as much as some hardcore fans. I am fond of their last two albums and believe Frances the Mute is their best performance.
I have been waiting for the new Tool album for such a long time - but a new TMV album would probably make me forget about it in an instant.
Now my expectations for a TMV reunion are sky high.
can you do omar rodriguez solo stuff like all of his solo stuff lol
frances the mute is the greatest record of all time.
I love them
Just missed one band dude! ...TOOL ..and all its perfect! 😀
Jorge Tamayo i second, third, fourth and fifth this statement 👌
Just saw them live in San Francisco. Had never listened before, am currently stuck on The Widow.
They’re in the Top 3 post hardcore bands for sure, the only progressive band in that genre. Great band. You implied that the other guys from ATDI quit playing but Sparta started immediately after the break up too. We got two better bands from atdi breaking up.
I just want them to shred and have sick vocals. I find Frances the Mute to be my favorite.
Don't you like At the Drive-in? Can you make a At the Drive-in brief introduction???
Bit late but, he already did. ruclips.net/video/j93TAhz0PmY/видео.html
New album by tool and the mars volta... Can we expect them teaming up at shows??
Man I'd love to hear more from them.
Cool. Have you listened to The Bedlam in Goliath? That's my personal favorite from them.
@@LieLikesMusic I have! ATDI Mars Volta and QOTSA are some of my favorite bands too. Along with Modest Mouse, Islands, Man Man, Beirut and some others.
YOU SHOULD DO "BUILT TO SPILL"
My one and only tattoo I have is a buffalo to represent my love for ORL and TMV
Same lol. My only tattoo was in honor of tmv.
Bedlam In Goliath kicks my fkking arse every time. WAX SIMULACRA
Mars Volta still kicking ash!!!
So stoked we are getting their catalogue repressed.
Could you cover Sonic Youth?
Ytterbium he has before but the video were deleted
i dont think tremulant was unrefined, au contraire, its raw and perfect
NOW It’s happening!
What happened to part 1 of the Understanding Mars Volta series?
Taken down due to copyright issues.
My favorite band.
Great video!
This is the best news. 😭❤
A brief introduction to Car Seat Headrest
There's a sad dude, he recorded a bunch of guitar songs on a parking lot. People liked his sad songs, so he re-recorded some in the studio. That's pretty much it! =)
omg they are back with blacklight shine noww
I was listening to the album Deloused recently, well, i have a long relationship with this band and this album. I think pretty much didn't had the mentality that I have now, i wasn't very careful with my listenings and I think ruined the experience with this. I wish I had the mentality that I have know and the same enthusiasm that I had.
Deloused is my favorite album of all time
frances the mute is my favorite album of all time
Suggestion: Understanding Scott Walker
Calling Amputechture the "calm before the storm" sounds so wrong to me. That album is not calm at all, it may not be as eccentric as Bedlam in Goliath, but the music is chaotic and extremely technical.
Jon Theodore is not on Tremulant either. Cool video but facts are skewed. Omar was more a shy type with ATDI also his lyrics may have appeared live but nowhere on the albums. Omar didn't even start playing guitar for studio albums until El Gran Orgo ep. Acrobatic Tenemant he's actually the bassist which is pretty trippy.
Now The Tremulant So Is Now Available On Music Streaming Services Now.!
What happened to your old Mars Volta videos?
The Mars Volta is awesome
Why would you review stuff you already like? What's the point of reviewing if you're going to have a bias opinion, being that you are reviewing your favorites?
I think you're missing the point of a channel like this. It's a discussion channel, making videos essays about music. not a review channel. Regardless tho, he explained in another comment that he's run into some copyright issues, and looks like he's just scaling things back maybe
Great video ! (i like it)
TMV you got me!
I love The Mars Volta and I am super excited for the new iteration but I am worried that it might be too influenced by this incarnation of ATDI and Antemasque both projects I've really enjoyed but not things I want crossing over with TMV
love mars volta
Delaoused was my first album from them. I had a period in life when i dindt listen to it couse i was too scaree listening it again.
I wouldn't mind of Deantoni Parks returned as their drummer. But I hope Jon Theodor comes back. Maybe Zack Hill
not sure how you can claim that deloused is their most popular and acclaimed album when Frances the mute outsold it in the US... It's their first main album so of course they're going to be a lot of people who heard it first you want to say something like this, but if we're going to make objective statements like best and most popular, we need to look at the facts.
They need to return but with Jon Theodore as their drummer just my opinion
U gotta do Sparta !!
Wasn't this a 2 part episode before or am I experiencing the Mandela Effect?
That's true. Actually a 3 part series. But i had to take them down due to copyright.
For shame. Guess I missed part 3. Thanks for making these. They're fun and informative to listen to.
great band
You could do Devendra Banhart
Jon Theodore is still one of my favorite drummers. For me, he's in my top 10 with Jon Stanier and Danney Carey etc etc etc.. And Deloused in the Comatorium is probably my favorite album from them.
As much as I wamt to believe they'll come back, I just can't see it without Ikey Owens.
Do gojira!!!
Its prounounced I-zay-uh (isaiah)owens
Create video about Arcade Fire
RIP to Ikey Owens!
I’m here from guitar hero world tour
Kanye said they had to finish the album. WHAT DOES THAT MEAN
⚡⚡
Too much politics in the group imo, _______ hates everyone, that's what it seems like. Definitely excited to see what comes next, melt my face off
