    INFO: 10.000 Days is the fourth studio album by the american progressive rock and metal band Tool. The album spawned 3 top 10 rock singles after its release and debuted at number 1 at the Billboard Top 200 chart. Although many fans often recite Ænema or Lateralus as the best Tool albums, 10.000 Days was a great effort that built on the classic Tool sound: complex riffs and patterns, deeply intentional lyrics and surprising experimentation are all elements that can be found on previous albums. But on 10k Days, they’re more refined.
    Despite of being far from their best received effort, fans kept this album closer to their hearts in the years after its release since the band went on hiatus and didn’t give any sign of activity for a very long time. And with time, it became another classic effort from them. But it wasn’t just the growing maturity of the album that made it outstanding. With this record they were able to communicate more by doing less. Everything from the album title and artwork to the lyrical themes and the release-process came very effortlessly to the band. They’d become refined musicians. By 2006 Danny, Justin, Adam and Maynard had accumulated almost 60 years of collective experience in the band, and that was definitely starting to show.

      My personal favorite is Ænema probably because it was my first and the one that "broke through" to me from my initial resistance. A lot of people take a bit to "warm up" to Tool and then it clicks and youre all in!

    My favourite off this album is Rosetta Stoned. I've read its loosely based on true events where this man appears in a hospital without a name or any cause to be there. He then proceeds to tell the doctor that he got abducted by aliens while he was tripping on some acid. He then tells the doctor that the world will end, but he can't remember what they said (the aliens). And then he walks out of the hospital and is never seen again

      I love it for how Maynard kind of disses people who think they've unlocked mysterious universal secrets just by having a crazy trip. Not saying there isn't something potentially profound in psychedelics but something like Lateralus (album) deals with a spiritual process of getting to that point and people who (seem) to bypass that with acid or what have you are really at risk of missing out on it.

      I love it as well because it seems to be a reflection of many people's crazy egotistical fear/fantasy of being the one person chosen by an alien race to convey the message of humankind's own destruction to them. "Born to bear and bring to all the details of our ending, To write it down for all the world to see. But I forgot my pen, Shit the bed again..." It also focuses on the old "I had an amazing psychadelic experience, but failed to write it down" idea. Hence "the shit the bed again" line. That's classic!!! What a song.

Even if it's not their best, there's still a high chance of it being a good album at the very least.

    I think 10000 Days is their best album after Lateralus. Yes, Ænima is the album that defined their sound and the most important album for their growth, but Lateralus and 10000 Days have better, more original and complex songwriting. With those two records the band went in completely unexplored directions, creating some of the most beautiful compositions ever (Reflection, Lateralus, Wings pt. 1 and 2, Intension/Right In Two) and their sound is better than ever. Ænima is the one that launched them in the mainstream and the one that defined them, but musically the following records are just more complex and original imo.

      @@thebatman1482 LOL I don't think anything on 10,000 Days measures up to Lateralus or Aenema. 10,000 Days certainly doesn't represent positive progress from Lateralus. If you ask me, songs like "The Pot" are a perfect example of catering to mainstream tastes. Plus the song goes on far longer than it has to.
      It's baffling that you belittle Aenema. It was the first Tool album I got into. So, perhaps it's more personal to me. But I don't see Aenema as ordinary or mainstream in any way, although I get what you're saying about it propelling Tool into the mainstream.

    • @thebatman1482
      @thebatman1482 5 лет назад +5

      @@dasein9980 The Pot is not more mainstream than songs like Ænema for example. Also, 10,000 is much more complex as far as songwriting, and Jambi and wings show that. Also, how can an album be mainstream when there's a 20 minutes song in it? And also, songs like Intension/Right In Two, Wings and Rosetta Stoned are among the most complex, well written and best executed songs in the entire Tool catalogue. I'm not saying Ænima it's not good, it's one of the best 90s records, I'm saying that 10,000 Days is much better than people think.

      well, the letter "Æ" is a latin diphtong and pronounced [æ], which sounds like the "a" in "handle". i'm aware that Ænima is a neologism created by merging "anima" and "enema", and the band may pronounce it "Onima", because the letter "Æ" does not exist in the english alphabet and they just invented a way of saying it. but, sorry to be that guy, they turned "a" and "e" to "æ", so it's pronounced "Ænima", just as it is written.

    Looking forward to your video on Fear Inoculum! I know a lot of T00L fans hated it and I too had some reservations upon first listening but I am here to tell you after many non stop plays, it has to be hands down the most elaborate and beautiful piece of art I've ever had the pleasure of passing through my ear holes. Honestly, I wanted to not like it because it was so different. But the more I listened, the more the lyrics hit home about getting older and having to evolve in order survive or risk the withering away of your mind. The fact that so many tool fans dismissed the new album just because it didnt have a bunch of aggressive lyrics and heavy apocalyptic riffs is truly saddening because that's not what the album is about and thus doesn't require a need to express the philosophy of it's themes through their old ways. It's about realizing that while searching for the meaning of life and a purpose, one can find themselves at death's door without having lived life to the fullest and how paranoia can lead to a waste of that life. You can listen to the album from track 1 to 7 (the path of spiraling down the hole into psychopathy) or from track 7 to 1 (the path from psychopathy to enlightenment and growing up) From 1 to 7, the album increasingly grows more chaotic and wild the further you listen. From 7 to 1, you start off in chaos and end in a more melodic structured song with lyrics focused on using your past and fears to propel you forward rather than hold you back. After I first listened, I felt like all this time had been wasted waiting on a new album but then I saw an interview where the band members said it will take fans several listens to really get the message and man they were right. I was listening to invincible one day then Descending played afterwards and I wanted to kick myself for judging the album so quickly. If you do a video on it, hopefully you can break down how great this album really is better than I can, that is if anyone ever read this novel of a comment lol.
