I am a disabled 63 year old golfer struggling for height and distance. Tried Callaway, Ping and currently M2s Senior flex. Thought I would try these and got a cheap new set with ladies shafts. WOW same length as the M2 irons but instead of rolling the last 25 yards they do it in carry, and the ball comes down with snow on it, cannot wait for next season to see my handicap reducing for the first time in years. Now all I have to find is something accurate and long off the tee. Thinking of perhaps a 3 wood as I get the same distance with my 5 wood as I do my driver [only 140-160 yards]
Got these over Christmas and I love them! I crush these clubs along way and very high even with the stronger lofts. I'm a 7-9 handicapper and can shape these clubs enough to be happy with the fact they aren't a "blade" very good looking set of clubs to. Carry my 7 around 190 and 4 around 225. Yet feel totally in control like they are my wedges
bought them today...loved them...took tthem on course with no one out there to drizzling chilly day...loved the added distance...8th hole hit a 7 iron 172 to 7 feet..9th hole hit wedge 140 easy swing and into a breeze..was swinging so effortless too...out of about 40 irons I missed hit one 6 iron...the ball before I hit perfectly...the 2 almost ended up same distance...highly recommended them....I'm a 9 handicap
Traded my jpx 850 forged for these and I'm so happy I did. They almost are as soft as the forged, but way more softer feeling than any cast club I have hit. Combined with the free customization of the shaft and grips they are an easier pick compared to the ap1, z 565, and steelhead. Also picked up the hot metal wedges and they feel just as good as the s5 wedge. The grind makes them very versatile! Love Mizuno golf and baseball !!
I bought these a year ago and dropped my handicap from 16 to 7.1. I put a lot of practice in, but the clubs definitely helped. Yes the shorter irons have pretty good feel. They aren't as soft as other forged irons, but they are soft enough. Performance trumps feel anyway for me and these just flat out perform. I have thought about upgrading to the MP-18 sc since lowering my handicap drastically, but don't want to give up my performance numbers and I think I can drop to around a 5 in the next year.
If you're playing off 7, I honestly doubt you'd lose much in the way of performance if you switched to the SCs in the shorter irons. You'll probably see a bump in spin. Have loved the 850 forged for a few years, especially from 8-pw, but recently feel like I lose too much height when I mishit the mid to long irons. Considering replacing 5-7 with these, lofts weakened a degree to match the 850s.
What a great fitting! Thanks Mizuno. I received my clubs in just a few days, AND despite playing with the flu had a fantastic experience. Bladed 1 caught 2 fat, everything else was so SWEET! I should have the distances down soon with about plus 20 to 30 yards. (stronger lofts) Hot metal, KBS s, Golfpride midsized black and white grips with 2 wraps. SWEEEEET !
I play to an 8 and just got these with the Nippon modus 105 shaft and absolutely love these irons. Make sure you get fitted. I was between these and the forged and these felt more solid when flushed. Still can shape the ball.
Lou P I just got fitted for the JPX 900 Forged with the same NS modus 105 shafts in stiff flex. 5-GW I didn't try the hot metal, would've been nice to possibly get the 5&6 iron in the hot metal and 7-GW in the Forged Should be picking them soon, can't wait. Love the feel of the 6 iron when tested.
I've watched lots of your reviews and let's just say performance wise this is one of your top 3 in the GI department... I just bought them today! Love at first hit. Thanks for reinforcing my decision...this club was not on my radar before I tried them...then I tried before I buyed...Great stuff!
likewise never looked at these until guy at american golf suggested. only ht the 6 irons felt amazing. considering mixing with forged but not sure as yet. How are you finding the shorter irons?
Let me google that for you ;) Chromoly is a steel alloy containing the chemical elements chromium and molybdenum (hence the name). It is used when you want to create thin but very stable steel elements, for example for (expensive and lightweight) bicycle frames. So in short: a special kind of steel.
Great review Rick, got my custom fit set of these yesterday and first round out was fantastic. Had the JPX 850 that were massively forgiving but had zero feel and rough impact, those were sadly nicked so I waited for these and I'm glad I did. Same great forgiveness of 850's but with much better sound and feel at impact, not to mention much better looking than the 850's with that blue badging and dual relief sole.
i like the idea of combining the three different jpx900 irons... unfortunately, as far as i know, there is no set like the callaway apex/apex pro combo. so i think, withought some massive loft bending, those clubs wouldn't really fit together...? you'd probably have a big distance gap between the tour and the forged irons... :-/
Love the look of these. The name you´re struggling with Rick is Chrome Moly, ie, Chromium Molybdenum; a lightweight, strong steel alloy, used for many decades in bicycle frame & component manufacture for its light weight /strength ratio
Rick should consider a move to bigger clubs, he hardly misses a green, maybe not this big though I've still never seen him hit anything as straight as the m2
Coming from the JPX EZ forged 2016 model, I don't know which one I like most. I THINK I would go for a forged short and hot metal long set. would love the tour, but the lofts wouldn't mix well, almost making you have two of the same number irons to fill a gap.
If you were going for a tour/forged mix, you'd probably get the forged bent a degree weak and the tours bent a degree stronger. I reckon the forged and tours seem to have a grouping problem in the longer irons, so I personally would definitely go hot metal/forged mix. If I were about to drop serious cash that is.
tjgoodman1 these may sound expensive but mizuno don't charge any upcharges for shafts or grips and when u take that into account plus the fact ur getting top quality clubs..they are good value (also mizunos keep a high value for trade in/re sales when u come to change again)
I've been looking at some Hot Metals and would anyone have any input on if there's been any drastic improvements over the years? I would like the 900s but if I can find some 919s or a decent deal on some 921s I would be willing to raise my budget up a bit especially if theres any big leaps in the models
A year on from using these Baugh because of look feel and your review. custom fit as I was high handicap and I love them I'm just now thinking of blending my set or buying a new forged set of mizuno absolutely great game improvement irons
Rick, with regards to Chromoly you've said in multiple videos "I don't know what it means". It's simply the name of the material they put into the club. Admittedly, it's not a well known material, but it's simply a strong steel. It doesn't have any cryptic meaning :-)
Chromoly is an abbreviation for "chromium-molybdenum steel." Chromoly is a range of low alloy steels used, for example, to produce tubing for bicycle frames and race-car roll cages. It is not as lightweight as aluminum alloys, but has the advantages of high tensile strength and malleability.
4140M all the way!!! Great spin for a forgiving iron. I got the 588 MT from cleveland and this Mizuno look like the same style of clubs but looking better with the chrome finish. Great video Rick!!! Any Cleveland/Srixon irons reviews comming soon? :D .
You should review the Adams Blue irons. I know these are older clubs. Maybe Dobby could give it a go. The JPX 900 look very nice. I wish some one could make a game improvement club but with a thinner top line.
Hey Rick, which do you like the feel of more the XR or the JPX 900 Hot Metal? I am looking for a used set of distance lofted clubs with the softest feel. Are there any other irons I should be checking out? Currently using Pings with traditional lofts.
Steel, a steel alloy that incorporates chromium and molybdenum, hence Chromoly. ... The key difference being that while both materials weight the same, Chromoly is exceedingly stronger (it has a higher strength to weight ratio).
A hot strike on the pitching wedge comes out 163 carry? That's only 13 yards short of your average carry of 176 with the 7 iron. It would be hard to use that pitching wedge on the course with that sort of front to back dispersion. It's a shame because the 7 and 4 irons had a pretty consistent dispersion.
great video rick! favourite youtuber. im a 17 handicapper 15 year old i hit the ball about 245 off the tee and have a glorious chipping game, could you pls reccomend a medium priced set of clubs and a ball . thanks
can i ask you a quick question, if I just went for the full set of hot metal would the short irons not be good enough, have enough feel? I play off 18 but only just really getting serious about the game so looking to improve over the next couple of years. Have only tried a 6 iron in tghe hot metal and forged and really like the hot metal, so not sure if i should even be thing about mixing the set. But keep hearing people saying about trying.
CHROMOLOGY VS CHROMOLY! Just dedicate yourself to chromology Rick, it's your own personal touch, it just sounds so wrong when you say it right now. BTW, I appreciate what you do on your channel. I'm a new golfer (5months) and you've actually taught me about everything I know. I now play ten over on average. You are appreciated.
Great review Rick,,likin the look of these irons. I hear you struggling with the pronunciation of the technology mate,,may I suggest it's pronounced chrom-oly,,as in holy chromoly? The whole JPX range look the dogs nadgers tho.
got told off for suggesting u comb ur hair and tuck ya shirt in...so maybe u should polish ya shoes...i think you could make a great mixed set between this mizuno range 👍 quite like the forged as its easier to say than chromoly 😜

Joe Pesce i haven't used any mizuno golf gear but have used only mizuno baseball equipment my entire life. im going to go check these out today 🤞

How are the shorter irons feeling? Ive only tried the 6 iron. felt amazing
Please do a comparison of 716 MB vs 714 MB vs 712 MB. You can pick up older models a lot cheaper so will be an option for most people. Thank you Rick
I've watched lots of your reviews and let's just say performance wise this is one of your top 3 in the GI department... I just bought them today! Love at first hit. Thanks for reinforcing my decision...this club was not on my radar before I tried them...then I tried before I buyed...Great stuff!

MissyLaMotte chromology??? too complicated... why don't they just call it forged? 🙄
"why don't they just call it forged?"
because it isn't forged.
Just bought these today 5-gap so far in absolute love w them 😍

Mizuno JPXs are on my short list for my first real irons set. Thanks for the great reviews Rick 👍
go Mizuno..you'll love em
Love the look of these. The name you´re struggling with Rick is Chrome Moly, ie, Chromium Molybdenum; a lightweight, strong steel alloy, used for many decades in bicycle frame & component manufacture for its light weight /strength ratio
Rick how would you compare these with the 716 ap1's ? I'm playing the ap1 but love the look of these
Tour PW,9,8 Forged 7,6 and Hotmetal 5,4 sounds tempting when it's time to change next time
Rick should consider a move to bigger clubs, he hardly misses a green, maybe not this big though
I've still never seen him hit anything as straight as the m2
i got the m2 tour and they are amazing. rick almost hole like 3 of the shots. i guess its the EGO driving him towards something better looking.
Alan DLC I have the M2 Tours as well and they are fantastic
Just picked up a used set near mint with stiff shafts 4-PW for $480. Can wait to try these out!
Coming from the JPX EZ forged 2016 model, I don't know which one I like most. I THINK I would go for a forged short and hot metal long set. would love the tour, but the lofts wouldn't mix well, almost making you have two of the same number irons to fill a gap.
Having said that, the spin numbers on those hot metals were impressive, stopping on the green well. Only that one flyer (GC2 misread?)

Adam Flynn that's exactly why I have the JPX ez. Free upgrades and great feel.
I've been looking at some Hot Metals and would anyone have any input on if there's been any drastic improvements over the years? I would like the 900s but if I can find some 919s or a decent deal on some 921s I would be willing to raise my budget up a bit especially if theres any big leaps in the models
Any explanation for the super hot 9i shot? Those clubs interest me but distance control is very important to me.
A year on from using these Baugh because of look feel and your review. custom fit as I was high handicap and I love them I'm just now thinking of blending my set or buying a new forged set of mizuno absolutely great game improvement irons
What shafts did you go for
Kbs tour
In terms of the feel does it feel similar to the Ping i200 ? Which of those feels softer?
How do these compare to the G irons?
31 degrees is, as a matter of fact, super strong for a 7i!
Rick, with regards to Chromoly you've said in multiple videos "I don't know what it means". It's simply the name of the material they put into the club.

Thanks Rick.. Top review!
I've been fitted for these, can't wait til they arrive. Felt amazing when i hit them during the fitting.
When will we see the cobra one length irons????
Please test the Wilson Staff C200.. Very interested in these.
Cool video.
Vincent Coleman I'd like to see them as well
I'm buying the JPX 900 Forged, they look and feel great with some forgiveness.
How'd they work out for you?
Hey Rick, which do you like the feel of more the XR or the JPX 900 Hot Metal? I am looking for a used set of distance lofted clubs with the softest feel. Are there any other irons I should be checking out? Currently using Pings with traditional lofts.
did you end up choosing one? im considering 718 AP1, JPX 900 hot metal, and Ping g400
good review, Thank you
my dream set my god, thank you for the review Rick

Hey Rick! Are you gonna review the new Cobra F7 irons?
Rick just started watching your channel and love it, if you had 1 set for a 20 handicapper which set best?
Titleist AP1, Mizuno JPX 900, TM RS1
Kirkland 007 Mizuno JPX 900
great video rick! favourite youtuber. im a 17 handicapper 15 year old i hit the ball about 245 off the tee and have a glorious chipping game, could you pls reccomend a medium priced set of clubs and a ball . thanks
You should use these. Great shots from all mizuno clubs. Put these in your bag. You'd be mad not too.
can i ask you a quick question, if I just went for the full set of hot metal would the short irons not be good enough, have enough feel? Are the clubs your hitting regular or stiff?
Who is this beardless man and what has he done with Rick Shiels!
I have these irons and when I hit out of the middle, they are so soft that you cannot even feel the ball being hit.
got told off for suggesting u comb ur hair and tuck ya shirt in...so maybe u should polish ya shoes...i think you could make a great mixed set between this mizuno range 👍
quite like the forged as its easier to say than chromoly 😜
Rick would you ever consider playing a club of this type. Even thou you are a better player??????
Style Hot Metal speak to me and my game
Hey Rick, this or G irons?
it looks hot!^^
I bought this irons a month ago.. i used AP2 before this.. i fell little bit weird when i use this.. i feel this irons not solid at all..
