4:40 Is EXACTLY how I felt the day the reviews for Cars 2 came out in June 2011. I couldn't believe it, the first time a Pixar film ever received a negative response! That was something unheard of at the time and I never thought I'd ever witness such an event. I was never a huge fan of the original Cars, but I felt Pixar knew what they were doing and surely couldn't make a bad flick.....
Cars two wasn't a horrible movie, but I feel like it's kind of unnecessary. I love the first Cars, not really the second. So Cars three, *this better be good.*
M • Vanvid Cars 2 may not be Pixar’s best film for most people. I know it got mixed reviews from critics (with the main focus of criticism being the idea of having Mater in the main role instead of Lightning McQueen) but as I am a Pixar fan, I have enjoyed every single film they made so far. In other words, I liked this one as well.
Come on, guys! Why didn't you like Cars 2?!? I thought it was awesome! The animation was spectacular, they really expanded on the humor and the voice acting was top-notch. It even took the #1 spot on my Best Films of 2011 list! Also, who doesn't love Mater?
We say it wasn't awesome, because the story is so stupid and the characters are unbelievably idiotic and annoying. It is by far the worst Pixar movie ever made and one of the below average movies of 2011.

I disagree. I think it is one of the most underwhelming Pixar movies. The first half started off promising with two sides of feminism battling it out with each other before the second half became just another version of Brother Bear. Brenda Chapman's idea should have been a thing and not what we ended up with in the end.

You could say "better than Brave". That was unfair, but the injustices in the Academy are not new in "Best Animated Feature". Everyone remembers Golden Globe winner "The Adventures of Tin Tin" was abscent in "Best Animated Feature" the last year.
Bob Thomas claims Cars 2 has been unfairly panned. I for one, agree with him. This movie made Mater a perfectly likable character; I actually felt bad for him when Lightning yelled at him. Also, I was impressed at Mater's knowledge as a tow truck. Yes, Finn McMissile and Holly Shiftwell should have been able to figure a few clues by themselves, but because Mater is a tow truck, it makes sense for him to know so much about mechanics. Then there is the humor. Except for the uncomfortable toilet humor, the REST of the humor is perfectly funny. And although this is clearly a Spy Movie, the race is not as pointless as one would think. I honestly have no idea why people hate Cars 2 so much.
Well, my favorite of his videos is his playlist of The Land Before Time movies, but I have also seen his Alpha and Omega reviews, his Transformers Reviews, and too many others to list.
Question Why is Mulan a Disney princess because no where in her movie did she become a princess and she was a warrior who should stay that way because that is who she wanted to be not the image being part of the princesses gave her.
+Spyder Soup Yeah, there is, but it's BAD. BAD. BAD! Yeah, in the second one, Mulan marries the son of the leader of the warriors (fuck, I always forget his name. Is it Shi Lang or something like that?) who died in the first movie.
Megan Williams there's 3 main things that make a princess; 1) be born royal 2) marry into royalty 3) an act of heroism. And yeah saving china is pretty heroic.
2011 the beginning of the end of the public's unrequited love for the Pixar company. Thank God they still made movies like Coco and Inside Out otherwise the 2010's was filled with nothing but sequels.
The good news is that they’re finally moving away from doing sequels asides from Inside Out 2 to focus on more original films and more of their staff that worked as production assistants on their films are getting to express their creativity and passion with their films like Onward, Luca and Turning Red. So this decade at least will be more like their Golden Era from 1995 to 2010.
I think it might time for a new updated Pixar Animation Lookback like you did with Disney recently as well as an Animation Lookback for Blue Sky Studios.
Golden ages of a stuido obviously don't last forever, and Pixar's ended in spectacular fashion with Toy Story 3, but who would have thought Cars 2 would be that bad. When I first saw the movie, I enjoyed it, then years later I thought about it real hard and realised how bad it was.
I thought Cars 2 was a fun movie with the scene where Mater eats pistachio ice cream which is really wasabi and where he tries to use the bathroom and all the awesome explosions and gadgets. But I did understand the problems it had.
Brave was pretty meh. It built up nicely until about the half of the movie, but then it felt like the creators realised that "shit, we're halfway there and still nothing major happened" and rushed the bloody thing horribly. and I don't really like the message of the film - if you want something, run away from home and make a huge mess of things. Merida got her way but her mom didn't, there was no visible compromise.
When I surprisingly found out that Emma Thompson voiced Queen Elinor, I took a wild guess that she was considered for the role by using lines from another Disney character she voiced, which of course, happened to be Captain Amelia in Treasure Planet, as animation test footage.
"Someone shoot me with an arrow now" Brilliant! If it were Disney from the Golden Age (or even the Disney Renaissance), Merida probably would've said that in a far off speaker with a pre-recorded message to create the illusion of a cartoonish (oh COME ON, Google, that's an actual word!) thought.
If I had to guess, I'd assume he wraps things up with a look back of the films from 1995 to 2012, talk about how Pixar opened up new doors for the world of animation, how the technology has improved and allowed animators to pull off things that would have been nearly impossible years ago, and finish off with his thoughts on Monster University and where he thinks the company will go from there.
Please continue the Walt Disney Animation Studios look back! It would be so interesting to learn about Tangled, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen (when it comes out) and even Winnie the Pooh!
Even though I find Merida as a Disney Princess a kind of bizarre addition, I just realize a major milestone: This makes her the first one without any romantic partners!
11:33 - 11:50? Really, AniMat? Come on, you did the same thing during your DreamWorks review. 12:09 - 12:27 Oh, come on! It's been almost a year and people still can't get over that? I mean, there are some people who thought it deserved to win it and Animat, I thought you were better than that.
This is surprisingly the same for me, as I did enjoy it quite a bit myself when I eagerly decided to watch it whenever it showed on Disney Channel and ABC Family. I guess I was aware of it to gain a cult following despite its possible reputation for turning out to be quite a mess. Maybe it's because I enjoy traveling and learning about international cultures, as I was quite fascinated with starting to learn about it in third grade.
Cars 2 basically started Pixar's dark era. As most Pixar movies after Cars 2 are very mixed (like Brave, Monsters University, The Good Dinosaur and Finding Dory) and some bombed at the box office (like The Good Dinosaur and Cars 3). However this era does have its hidden gems, like Inside Out, Coco and Incredibles 2. I hope Toy Story 4 won't be a failure as people are already hating it because Toy Story 3 had "the perfect ending"
Actually John genuinely wanted to make a sequel to Cars it's a film that came from his heart. I've watch the commentary to Cars 2 and he always speaks fondly and happily about making that movie. He mentions how the couple on the bridge kissing in Paris was for his wife and the bathroom scene in Japan was what he and his son did when the went there. Mater at the party in Tokyo was based on John being invited to a party in Milan, Italy with all the glitz and glamour and him being dressed normal
@@captainhowlerwilson508 To be fair, even ideas, whether strange or bad, can be executed well if done in the right hands. @@hunterolaughlin You have a fair point, but those movies succeeded because they didn't have any super idiotic moments that took you out of the film, regardless of the flaws they had. This is something I cannot say for Cars 2.
I saw the movie only once and I found it kinda enjoyable. It wasn't that bad. Nothing incredibly spectacular with whole recycled secret agent storyline, but I will say that the story arc revolving around the reason for the race was pretty good and the revelation of the villain was a bit surprising.
the only thing I like about Cars2 was they got the NorthWestern animated and its actual captain Sig Hanson as its voice. I'm a big fan of Deadliest Catch, so that was an epic surprise.
I guess no one remembers how Merida steps up to the Princess role in the end of the movie, and using what her mother has taught her. But the upside is that her mother also lets her be more free. In return, Merida will become queen one day, but it will happen more at her own pace. Just my two cents.
Even though Cars 2 has no moments, I like the parts where McQueen is lonely without Mater, which might as well be the only good parts of the movie as well this little scene with the Piston Cup renamed after Doc, even though he was taken out.
