Scott Burnstein has always been a credible and informative researcher/ reporter. One of the best if not the best Mob / Crime podcasts. Keep up the great work.
Great content ! Are u guys going to do a episode on the 2nd Colombo Family War I feel like it's been covered but not at great length like you guys did in this episode
Wow… just saw this today, liked, subscribed, & commented immediately! I been looking out for your podcast Scott I’m a huge fan of your work Mafia Prince was I think in my opinion one of the best mafia books written… action, action, action from start to finish I like your teammate a “PhD “ sounds like another Detroit guy to. I think you’re gonna kill it, I’m glad I saw this. Great to have real professional historians finally on a mob genre podcast like this finally at my level I really appreciate what you did Scott by sharing new information like that. Truly that’s what’s incredible and what is needed by throwing something new with the lil Felix , because for a guy like me A hidden mob historian myself . I am gonna ring the bell so let me know when you drop a new show!!!
Hi and thanks for the channel .... Scott , I got a question for you. Scott I've heard that you've been in the Youngstown Ohio area recently, and that's great. So my question is , ** ** are you planning on airing some special content about the Youngstown Ohio area and the organized crime activity there ? Or , possibly,is there a book on the way from you about the Youngstown scene ? Thank you again.
Scott I’m from the suburbs of Philly in Bucks County. Although I didn’t start researching the Philly faction until 2020, you’re knowledge of this city is so impressive especially considering you are a Detroit guy. I really enjoy all of your Philadelphia content. I actually found you through Nadu and I’m very very happy I did. Keep up the great work, your knowledge will bring you to some amazing places!!
Great Great show guys. Why doesn't anyone mention the Riccobene brother who cooperated, and gets in witness protection. He leaves protection, and returns to Philly, and gets killed?
Great episode guys. I was wondering if you guys would ever be interested in talking about the gang wars in Vancouver stretching back to the 90’s and continuing on to today. Know it’s not Italian organized crime but it’s a very interesting topic to cover.
Scott, love your shit but in the mid 90s I was in his presence one time and just his presence scared the shit out of me. This man is not fake since a child he wasn’t fake it’s me and learned from the best know what you’re saying.
Awesome podcast, great content. Joey did do 14 years in prison though...got a part of his butt shot off in that war before he went to jail and all of that.. as we say in the I.T. tech industry, he's "full project life-cycle". Hey guys, an awesome info packed podcast, no doubt some of the best content on the net with respect to this genre.
Here’s your Philly cast. Just disregard the age of some of these guys because it’s probably too late for some of them but imo look most like the real guys: Scarfo- Franky Valli Leonetti- Tony Danza Salvie Testa- Mark Ruffalo Lawrence Merlino- Joseph Mantegna (young) Chucky Merlino- John Turturro Angelo Bruno- Harvey Keitel Frank Tieri- Danny Aiello Vincent Gigante- Bobby Cannavale Tony Capinigro- David Proval Tony Salerno- Dominick Lombardozzi Phil Testa- Dennis Farina Chickie Narducci- Louis Mustillo Joey Merlino- Michael Imperioli I’m sure I’m forgetting someone but either way you’ll be hard pressed to find a cast that looks more like their real life counterparts than those guys.
My Grandfather Junior was in prison with Stanfa for a long time. They were very good friends. I actually wrote him When my poppy died and he wrote me back. Very nice man!! Regardless of what people say. He was a very nice man!
You have a great podcast, and Scott Burnstein is a good researcher. Please keep up the good work as i enjoyed listening to your episode on the Philadelphia mob war.
Man I put Scott up in the top 2 journalists on any and every criminal topics, but I got a small feeling this could be a “gotti jr.” vs “sliwa” situation if things get to personal just my opinion. Great video fellas!
Scott Burnstein has got to be one of the best historians of the genre. George Anastasia and a few others like Selwyn Raab are also the who's who of Cosa Nostra history and current info. I have always liked Scott since his Detroit documentary/book he did with Al Profit named "Motor City Mafia." Not to mention his family lineage goes back to the good old Purple Gang, that was really the beginning of the Jewish mob in Detroit and played the significant role in the St Valentines Day Massacre. Scott also has his book "Mafia Prince" based on Crazy Phil Leonetti and the Philadelphia Mafia.
John stanfa MADE joey Merlin as one of many peace offerings and Joey just couldn't stand the way things were being run and he wanted to be the boss....so he kept spitting in the face of stanfa until Joey came out ontop... Crazy young guys. It happened to work out that way that they won...
This is top 3 show easy. It’s different then the other shows on here, quick story must have BENN 94 or 95 The game console sets of sega cdrom has jus come out and is super expensive for that time period and no1 in the neighborhood can get 1 they are being sold out. My father 1 day in the summer says he needs me to take a ride with him he takes me in his Cadillac from our home in TRENTON,NJ TO SOUTH PHILLY I REMEMBER THE BEN FRANK BRIDGE, I had no idea where we were going, we pulled up to a stretch of warehouse and in the middle was a uhail looking truck. Outta no where my dad talks to the man smoking outside the truck where his red Mercedes was, he opened the back door to the truck filled with sets of segas the guy told my father take as many as you want for the kid meaning me, I was so happy and gave a few out to my friends back in Trenton, now seeing these videos on yt I kno who the man in the Mercedes was cool asf Godbless from TRENTON NJ
Joey is a very smart guy he’s avoided jail he’s got a lot a lot of money is a millionaire and he basically keeps a low profile he likes people to know who he is but he doesn’t go out there and show off and I actually admire him for that.Scott love the show different from other podcasts. Joey Merlino reminds me of crazy Joe Gallo because they both had balls.
Bruno's head wasn't blown off, if it were you wouldn't see his mouth and eyes open! The back of his head was probably missing but the head was still attached to the torso!
So many things about philly is crazy like why hit scarfo jr? And what was an old school sicilian like stanfa thinking making an ex cop, and what is natale real story, anyway great video guys
I dont get whats so riveting or fascinating about him. Hes a real gangster for sure and has had a pretty good run and storied life but there are a lot more interesting figures to me, out there. As for how stanfa got a pass on the Bruno hit, it could be his relatives in the Gambino family made a case that stanfa wasnt the driving force behind the hit. That he got pulled in by capanegto's crew who told him they needed his help to carry out an order from the commission.
Barney gave the final word . It was at a time in the late 90s-early 2000s that the Luccheses were disputing the validity of the Merlino regime . Yes , Ligambi helped bridge the gap with nyc
New York finally understood that Joey wasn’t going away. Secondly, if they would have came to Philly to hurt Joey, they would have had to kill an entire group of Joeys childhood friends. It wasn’t until Ligambi tied the knot, but Joey would have been recognized regardless one way or another. NY really didn’t have a choice. I’m sure they’re happy with who Joey has ultimately become. He’s an intelligent guy, and a good boss. He surrounds himself with the right people.
@@gangsterreport328you’re right. But it was the Luchhese regime that disrespected Philly first, by doing a favor for Scarfo Sr, because he knew Joey would kill Scarfo Jr if he stayed in Philly. We all know what happened on that Halloween night when Scarfo Jr was machine-gunned. Scarfo Jr ran to the Luchesses for protection and they made him. Gave him a button. 🤦♂️ 🤷♂️
What I don't understand is did Chuckie give Joey the go ahead to takeover? All because he was demoted? Plus who was the acting boss and underboss when they were in jail? Philly just sounded like a mess.
Hands down best mafia and crime content on youtube
Thank you!!
💯
Absolutely 110% I look forward to every episode
I'm blaming you Mr Karin's if not..but just ready for some mob historical society content gangster sht.. outliers brilliant
You guys are seriously the best! Always look forward to your new vids. Thanks!!
Another cracking video lads! Keep it up!
Scott Burnstein has always been a credible and informative researcher/ reporter. One of the best if not the best Mob / Crime podcasts. Keep up the great work.
You could not be more wrong this guy doesnt know his hand from his toes
Great content ! Are u guys going to do a episode on the 2nd Colombo Family War I feel like it's been covered but not at great length like you guys did in this episode
I woulda been shitting my pants if I was Joey going to that making ceremony.. geeez
Yea seriously I’m surprise they didn’t try to Tommy desimone him
😆 Your right! Joey probably had a dozen hitters waiting for him to make it out of there
MAN what an underrated podcast. Every show is great especially your interviews. This things gonna catch some heavy traction soon
Your ability to predict the future could use a little tune up.
It is good content though at least you weren't wrong about that.

Thank you for the kind words!!
Can we get a podcast on the current state of the Chicago Outfit, the C-notes, and The Patch neighborhood in Chicago?
Scott should know alot of shit about the Philly game. Mafia Prince was a great read!! Interesting things in there I didn't know. Good stuff!!
Hi and thanks for the channel ....

Nothing in the works. Just came into town for a history talk. Enjoyed my time in Mahoning Valley. We will do a Youngstown episode soon .
Scott's retention of information is amazing.
Hey, now! Thank you, guys, and the whole production team that provides us with this content, by far the best.

Scott… I could listen to you talk about Joey and Philly for hrs. Pls do more THANK YOU
Honestly, that’s my favorite content from this channel. The Philly Mob episodes about Joey, Mazzone, Baby Dom, etc. 👌🏽
Awesome great show Scott from another proud person from Detroit #313
Motor City Baby o7 a friend of the working class.
@@perrymason4208 💯
Tony Caponigro got the nickname “Bananas” from his father being a banana dealer
But he was crazy. He was like Scarfo
After listening to this again had to go back and listen to mafia prince audio book for the 26th time
Great Great show guys. Why doesn't anyone mention the Riccobene brother who cooperated, and gets in witness protection. He leaves protection, and returns to Philly, and gets killed?
Can you explain the dozen assassinating attempts on joey merlino. I only know of 2
Really want another philly show
Great episode guys. I was wondering if you guys would ever be interested in talking about the gang wars in Vancouver stretching back to the 90’s and continuing on to today. Know it’s not Italian organized crime but it’s a very interesting topic to cover.
Vancouver lol
Canada has more ruthless criminals than the us dummy. Hell's Angels in the US even talked about it. Hell's Angels in Canada are 10x worse.
Enjoyed the Stern show reference.

Chucky Merlino- John Turturro
Angelo Bruno- Harvey Keitel
Frank Tieri- Danny Aiello
Vincent Gigante- Bobby Cannavale
Tony Capinigro- David Proval
Tony Salerno- Dominick Lombardozzi
Phil Testa- Dennis Farina
Chickie Narducci- Louis Mustillo
Joey Merlino- Michael Imperioli
I’m sure I’m forgetting someone but either way you’ll be hard pressed to find a cast that looks more like their real life counterparts than those guys.
Can you get the Philly making ceremony tapes let me kno bro love from TRENTON NJ
My Grandfather Junior was in prison with Stanfa for a long time. They were very good friends. I actually wrote him When my poppy died and he wrote me back. Very nice man!! Regardless of what people say. He was a very nice man!

Impeccable work as always brother Scott

Watched it Tuesday on apple podcast and rewatching today
What I can't F-----King stand is two ads before video & one ad only 53seconds in...... 😡😞😠😞😡😞😠 You couldn't ever hold your hands up to meeeee.. ❤😡😞😠
This is great. Thanks again from Ontario Canada 🇨🇦.
Yall deep dive for real...great stuff
That war between Joey and Stanfa was wild!
lol they were in the car while some guy walked up with a shotgun, they didn’t catch any shrapnel?
U guys know your shit .. very refreshing 👍👍

Great show..thanks very much.
Thats it Scott 'The Green Talk's.'
Love this story
Great info… thanks
Love the fact you guys touch on all aspects of organized crime.
You are a good story teller
John stanfa MADE joey Merlin as one of many peace offerings and Joey just couldn't stand the way things were being run and he wanted to be the boss....so he kept spitting in the face of stanfa until Joey came out ontop... Crazy young guys. It happened to work out that way that they won...
John veasey also played a big part of ending that war by testifying on stanfa
wanted to hear more about caponigro and his reputation/ character
You pissed the wrong people off, The Difronzos, and the Messino's and the D'Amicos. and the Cerone family say take it down now
Stanfa is 81
Yall need a JOIN button so us associates can kick up. :)
Great podcast.

Scott’s buddy is obsessed with stands Jesus Christ LOL ITS VERY NOTICEABLE In this episode hahahaha
What does that mean?
You good with your hands Scott?
You and Nadu have been banned from setting foot in Chicago, think I'm playing just start coming around this way and find out
South Philly Rules
Uncle Joe in my mind was the saviour of Philly. Massively underrated guy!!!
Your not allowed to Talk about John Difronzo or Joey Merlino, take it how you wanna take it, You been told many times before
either take it down or I'm gonna come have a chat with you soon
I think you should come visit us in Chicago it would be nice to see you lol
You better stick to talking about the Purple Gang, cause Chicago is a no fly zone for you and everyone you know for now on
I can't wait, You should never said what you said about my Uncle Johnny
But the information you provided ate on point !!!
I was John Stanfa's cell mate in Schuylkill federal prison
I used to sit next to him in 2015-16 we were on the Russian table right next to the Italian table. John is a very nice man and very well spoken.
Great show guys 👌 good info but c'mon Ralph natale has tall tales it was thought but I'm only novice.
Seems much smarter and less crazy than Gallo
Nicky Scarfo said to Joe Salerno Crime Don’t Pay When Salerno put in a New Heater in the AC Compound js
That stuff comes down about John by the end of the night or me and you are gonna have a serious issue
Whatever you feel about Joey Merlino. I find him interesting for the fact that he risked everything including his life to get what he wanted
Some people believe Camponigro was setup, NY hoping he would do what he did, they wanted rid of Bruno for whatever reason.
27:50 I thought Stanfa straightened Joey out.. correct me if I'm wrong
Scottie ur beautiful! This was excellent 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🙌🙏
I'm Tony Mangano, Not Some Punk kid!!!!! 😡😞😠
I'm in Detroit all the time, I know where you eat at
What year did stanfa make joey?
October 1992
Newly made soldier goes to war for control of the family, gotta love Joey! Guy's got balls of steel!💯
I thought Tony Caponigro got the "Bananas" nickname because as a young man he ran or owned a produce stand for a living ?
Bruno's head wasn't blown off, if it were you wouldn't see his mouth and eyes open! The back of his head was probably missing but the head was still attached to the torso!
Go Phillies!!!
Go and run and cry or do what you been told
You guys should check out his podcast. I think you’d be surprised
So many things about philly is crazy like why hit scarfo jr? And what was an old school sicilian like stanfa thinking making an ex cop, and what is natale real story, anyway great video guys
Because little Nicky Jr. thought he was dad's heir. Nicky broke down Joey's dad n uncle. Nick Jr. had little support in Philly.
Nicky Jr was Scarfo’s proxy. It was basically saying that they didn’t give af about Scarfo and weren’t afraid of him.
Lol .." B-sides"😂
1:01:11 . I always wonder what Johnny Chang felt as well . I’m sure he knows he went into that dinner that morning ..
Think about this, Joey Merlino defied the New York commission when he fought the man that they chose John Stanfa..!
Just a comment suggestion - interview MICHAEL FRANZESE!! He’s amazing
We have three episodes with Michael. You can find them on our audio and video channels. Thanks👍
John Stanfa made Joey and Chang in an attempt to end the bad blood. Guess Scarfo didn't see joey as a varsity athlete
Joey doesn't like the Housewives comparison. Lol
I dont get whats so riveting or fascinating about him. Hes a real gangster for sure and has had a pretty good run and storied life but there are a lot more interesting figures to me, out there.

Kick a$$ show! Should do a 2024 deep dive!!
It is insane that they have never been able to pin a murder on Joey. We all know hes got lots of them.
Prove it then ? Grass
Do we know how Joey finally was accepted with NY? Was ligambi responsible for that?
Genovese was happy w/ Uncle Joe Ligambi running the family.
Barney gave the final word . It was at a time in the late 90s-early 2000s that the Luccheses were disputing the validity of the Merlino regime . Yes , Ligambi helped bridge the gap with nyc

Can you get Ruthie on the show?
Have to say it again I had a dear friend Dominic campisi 10th Oregon crew a wild guy he was.
