Will it Run? Episode 15: 1941 Dodge Luxury Liner! Part 3 of 3

- Hi! This time we're going to get this old Dodge going for the first time in 34 years! It has been parked in a container since my friend Mark bought it from his grandfather's estate in the late 70's. It doesn't run, and needs a pretty comprehensive mechanical overhaul, including the brakes, fuel, electrical, and cooling systems, and the valvetrain.
The plan is to get this car plated again and use it for a fun summer driver. We are not going to touch the body or interior of the car, just the mechanical stuff. The interior is all original, and the body is totally solid, if a little dinged up in a couple spots...
We did have to disassemble the doors to repair all of the window regulators, which had broken and seized up.
Thanks so much to Mark for inviting me to participate in this project and allowing me to film much of it for my channel here on RUclips. We had a lot of fun getting this old Luxury Liner going, I hope you enjoy checking out the video, and feel free to share it with your friends if you like this kind of thing! Cheers, and thanks again to everyone for commenting and subscribing!
What I love about what you guys do is we never see these cars these days. They're a forgotten era of vehicles in so many ways. We see 30s stuff and 60s stuff, but not so much 40-50s stuff beyond tri-5s, thunderbirds, leadsleds and corvettes. Love what you're doing. Don't stop!
I love to see the old Iron back on the road , those are real cars
What a great car! That front end is just artwork...
Beautiful! It should easily pass an MOT inspection and be road worthy! as it is amazing condition! Nice simple uncomplicated old car!
TOM!!
What a wonderful old girl she is. Has the look and feel of a one time military staff car, at least to me - I could see the brass being hauled around in her during WW2.
If that was the case, it would also help explain how well she has been kept in her early years too, I guess?
This is legacy stuff, Scott. Things that have passed through your care that will outlive you. Great stuff, man, must be very fulfilling.
-Ed on the Ridge
What a beautiful old survivor. Very glad you only restored what needed to be restored to get it down the road safely. The rest of it is like a time-capsule. Very well done! Love it!
That's so cool! You are from Alberta. I live in Calgary. It;s good to see fellow Albertan's rescuing these old cars. That's an awesome car by the way.
Love the styling of this car and you did a great job with the minimal restoration. Nice to see it original - most survivors are in horrible shape or disfigured in the restoration. .
That is wonderful work that show your skill, art and respect for the original car.
Great videos of 41 Dodge sedan. you've convinced me that a 41 Dodge Luxury Liner with that boat prow grille is a neat looking auto! As they said in the magazine ads "The smoothest car afloat!" It's great that you're keeping original and not turning into a street rod. I love to see you guys preserving auto history. I have a 48 DeSoto 3 window coupe that am working on. You have inspired me to finish it.
Well thank-you very much; glad you enjoyed the videos. Good luck on that sweet DeSoto!
Ah, such a reminder of simpler times...
Thanks for the look back. I think my Grandfathers car was a '46 Dodge. The pre-war cars were much more ornate. Enjoying your videos, keep up the great work!
Hey, thanks for checking it out! Yeah, I really like this old Dodge; a real art-deco beauty! Cheers from me and Stel.
It's nice to see a car like this in gentle hands. Too many are turned into street rods, in my opinion. I have a '51 Desoto. I had a '42 and sold it. Bad mistake! That Fluid Drive may be slow, but it sure is fun. I hope you enjoy your Dodge for many years ahead.
Now this is how an old car like should look like! Getting it back into showroom condition, just like the day it came out of the factory!
Classic cars really are time machines.
I could swear I see a smile on her face while she's out struttin her stuff....so glad to be out and about.
Thanks...✌😀
that is a Trade Mark of coldwarmotors . driving the Car around the property . its nice to see another Vintage Car being restored and driven ! . Ray in Pa.
Stella is a lucky dog! Look at all the cool autos she has for rides.
They really dont get more original than this! Last time I saw one of these was at a show in Cornwall in '02.
it amazes me the conditions on this prewar vehicle ,its a nice car,i love what you guys are doing, thanks.
Reminds me of my first car a 48 Plymouth I bought for 100 dollars in 1960 was a great car love to another one today
Cool car! I like the Art Deco styling of pre-World War II cars.
On your upload 'Saving more old cars' I noticed that when you were Walking around those, um, Bales ? of crushed cars, there was the front (red) grille nameplate of the unrecognisable cube within it.
It said, LUXURY LINER. So a real thrill to not only see one of these, but to completely unfold the cube and get it restored !!
-So pleasing for me to see someone do a bit of work to get such a glamorous art deco rolling art-form back to LIFE !
I have watched all 3 of this series on the Luxury Liner several times already. HAD to watch it again though !!
CWMotors RULE ! (of course I was joking about ressurecting a cube of Dodge !) A BRILLIANT car, Love it. = )
+MungoidHen Hey, thanks for the kind words and for watching this stuff! Glad you liked the old Dodge. Cheers from me and Stel!
ready to see the 41 Plymouth come to life.
Yeah, after seeing this Dodge come together, I can't wait to start on my old Road King!
Sweetest car you ever did! Luv-it!
Scooterfish58 Thanks! This was a fun project and a real treat to drive around in.
I have been watching for a few weeks and this is the car project that started out in the best condition and ended up in the best condition so far. The hopeless projects are a lot of fun though.
It rolls on and on, like some kinda dream. Nice.
Love first start ups! Favorite part of the saved old car process. My trouble is that I can't walk away from 'em! Up to number 12.
no wonder this is called a Luxury Liner....it fits !!
Heading out to look at a 56 Pontiac Star Chief hardtop coupe that has been sitting idle for a bit. I'll post a video soon! Keep up the great work!
One terrific car. Great videos.
Hey thanks for checking out the old Dodge; a favorite of mine for sure! Cheers...

Grandpa would be proud-well done!

Just watched these again-excellent!
GREAT CAR..HOPE IT GETS STORED IN A COOL DRY PLACE WHILE ITS COLD N SNOWY OUT
Well done. Great car, great job.
Great ride as well as nicely done camera angles. I really wished it had the old superhetrodyn tube radio. Nice complete engine gauges. I always despised danger "idiot" lights as opposed to real instrumentation gauges. I hope Stella approved! Your videos ROCK!!!
+heffo and juff Hey, thanks for the note, glad you liked it! I also really enjoyed this Dodge project! Cheers from me and Stella!
+coldwarmotors Back at you Boss! Please give Stella a couple milk bones for me and a big ex-navy Bravo Zulu to you Sir!

Another great series of three I hadn’t seen before - another unexpected treat! Do you still have this Dodge gem?
Love it!! Full of personality
great old car
the car must have come from coastal oregon, where snow is rare, where as interior oregon, would be more likely to see snow. i can't believe, the car has no rust, it's great!
Beautiful car!
What a glorious car! Nice to see it running and driving. Hooray! 8*}
What great fun!
good old AMC fan here
love it . good job and Gday Stella xxxxx
G'day back to you from Stel!
Junkers? Are you kidding? The first classic car I rode in was a 41 Dodge. I was 10 years old and has had the fever since.
Love the video! Just tripped across your channel, really twigged when I realized you are in my neck of the woods. What are you doing with the Citroen DS? Good to see some one keeping the old tin mobile!
Fantastic!
So classy
You must keep a rabbit foot in your pocket slim.👍
that was wonderful! id love to get an old car like this. and have it to fix up a bit and drive. id love having a flathead especially. would make a good near daily driver for me. [i dont usually go far]
Yeah, these old Chryslers from 40-48 are very well made cars that make great daily drivers for not a lot of money. Parts are inexpensive and relatively easy to find. They are 55 mph cars without the overdrive option, though, and the old brakes are not like today's cars, haha.
Great for where I live, out in the country a ways... just cruising to visit friends or whatever...
Thanks for checking it out!
sounds like my kind of car man. i do like your other old boats too. i have a 1976 dodge monaco, i love it
Good stuff
This is the first car i owned my dad bought it for $67.00 dollars.i was born the year it was made.i am 83yrs old
Awesome!
What a sweet ol' gal this Dodge is.
Since it was painted year's ago.. it should get some new paint .. otherwise your just saving old crap paint ? i loved it nice work
Classic!

Awesome
My twin brother and I started out lifge in a gray 46 Dodge 4 door.
where is Stella? and cat who does the 'cat scan' :) great great car :)
What a neat ole'girl. Quite certain Jay Leno would approve!! Someone please explain how a Hemi Cuda is more fun than this???
Gorgeous. Utterly Gorgeous. Was that In your own shop that you did all the work?
Thanks! No, we did this car at my friend's shop. Much nicer than mine, haha.
What a great Dodge! How many of the cars do you actually keep when they are finished?
Hey thanks for the note; glad you liked the old Dodge! This one belongs to my friend; he still has it and we use it several times in the summer... It is very reliable now and a treat to drive. I have around fifty cars right now... Many are parts and projects though; they will be combined to make one good copy of a certain car. I keep most of my cars, but occasionally sell one or two to make more room. I'll also sell anything that should get built and put back on the road if I'm not going to do it. I sold my 47 Mercury coupe and my 53 Ford 2 door for this reason. All the best from us here!
* Ok Scott , just used the "Way Back Machine" and went back and watched these three vids. Jeez you and Dean were so clean cut & tidy ! Great seeing Stella & Tom too. Questions, Was that Mark's place you were working at and does he still have the Dodge ? Cheers Man ! 👊😎👍 p.s. gonna have my wife watch this one cause she's never seen you without the beard and she always grumbles ; He looks like a homeless bum ! 🤣 Women !!!
Is the Citroen DS Pallas (shown in the intro) in good running order?
cool to see a Citroen DS or maybe ID - I saw my first at Wheelus AB in Libya....astonishing car. And this Dodge, hardly any rust...now you know Detroit iron by the rust...we have had Mitsubishi cars made in Illinois and no rust. Unfortunately the plant is closing - they just did not have good marketing people so few knew of the cars and SUVs..a big shame...
granskare Hey, thanks for the note! There's a video of my DS Safari wagon on my channel if you like them... I sure do! I just had this Dodge out for a drive this weekend, it's a real treat out on the country roads around here. Cheers!
what do you do with the cars after you fix them?
How did it get from Oregon to Canada, eh?
We're you able to restore the clock delete plate?
yost123 No, but we have recently bought an NOS clock from ebay to put in the hole... Cheers!
So, what happens with this car now that it is running?
Whatever happen to this 41 Dodge?....any possibilities for a sale....name the price...i'm interested.
Manitoba?
Awesome car... but now you have to change your name to Pre-Cold War Motors.
***** Haha; yeah, I thought someone might call me on that! Cheers from us here at PCWMC...
Mafia II 😂 Joe Barbaro
Nice video, eh ?
I can't believe you called this great car you saved a junker! I hope you apologized.
Beautiful car!
