Intel ARC GPUs, tested one year later... Finally WORTH buying for your Gaming PC?

- When I last tested the ARC a750 and A770, they were, to simply put it, a complete mess. Though trying out the GPUs nearly a year later, I am actually quite impressed how far the stability has come in particular, as well as much more consistent performance. Though there are still quite a few problems that have been not only void of fixing, but haven't even been addressed....

Getting some positive comments about the a380 and making a custom encode box with it. Might have to see if I can snag one up used. As jelly fin is gaining lots of traction.
I’m running one on a BlueIris system (surveillance) with 16 4k cameras. It’s an absolute champ.
I really am impressed given the time Intel have had and where they are and if you watch how transperant they are with gamersnexus when asked questions, they are really establishing trust and attending feedback from customers IMHO. No small feat considering. EDIT: the intel team doing the interface need to talk with the software engineers having watched the whole video, capture card and uneer volting etc are issues that will effect purchasing
Any reason people are recommending the A380 over the A310 for Jellyfin transcoding?
Snagged an Arc A580 used for $125 USD and it does great for 1080p low settings and also have an A380 for encoding PLEX - both work wonderfully and the 580 does do some decent ray tracing
A380 is the best bang for buck sff card and the a580 is one of the best value gpus under 200. Love my a380 in my z240 even with out rebar
If this is Intels first attempt with GPUs then I'd say its a success. They should improve.
yeah, first time someone tried to elbow into the duopoly in almost 20 years, and last time was a Hindenburg tier disaster; Google XGI Volari Duo to see how that went, and the company XGI had already make dGPUs for their parent company SiS with some success before.
It is nottheir first, look up i740, then their igps...
@@shadowopsairman1583 stop..........
Its not their first, but the previous attempt (i740) was more than 2 decades ago, so at least in recent memory, its their first, and definitely impressive by that regard.
@@auritro3903 I had a i740 and I think I paired with some type 3DFX card. I think the only was it being one of the first DirectX and Direct3d cards. Wasn't very from what I recall, but it none of the cards back then were anything to write home about.
Considering where Intel started with the A770 and A750, getting them to the point where they are competing with an RX 6600 at the very worst is quite an achievement.
Unfortunately the reality is quite different. in DX11 and newer it might compete with the RX 6600 at worst, but when you get to less popular DX9 games, they can be completely unplayable. And then if you go even older, e.g. DX6 or DX7, everything is broken. Menus are improperly rendered, polygons are stretched to hell and back and textures are obliterated. It's a real shame.

I have an A380 in my TrueNAS machine for Jellyfin media server. I'm about to buy another A380 for a different machine that does a lot of encoding work. Encoding videos is what makes ARC worth buying for me.
Yeah I have to get some time to set up a jellyfin server too. Really neat. My friend showed me his and it's like good bye monthly subscriptions

Very informative, cheers, mate😉
I'd like to Arc but since I'm a laptop guy, trying Arc might be a pipe dream and that Arc laptops which was promised during Intel's keynote are very scarce. But I'll wait till Battlemage before trying my hands on Arc and desktop space.

I have an Arc A580 and mostly play indie games, it was an absolutely horrible experience *until* I got a new CPU (Ryzen 5 4500) that supports ReBAR and now is lovely. No more constant stutters, the framerates are nice and I can both play the games I like, as well as record/stream them. Plus I got the card for around 200 EUR to replace my old RX 580, it just seems okay in most respects.
Interesting. My experience with indie and older games is abysmal (A770, 1 month ago). Often completely unplayable and for older games (pre-DX9) it usually renders everything incorrectly with stretched polygons and broken textures.

I've had an A770 for half a year and it's been so worth the price. Only thing it's struggled with so far is Blender so I hope Intel improves there with Battlemage!
Also, at least for me, the higher power draw is more a positive than a negative since it keeps my PSU from being super loud lol

good info for me, wanted to see these compared, looking for an upgrade.
Been running the A770 for over a year with my bodged intel NUC extreme (12700) that now lives in that akasa nuc case with a 750W cooler master PSU, because i like my things to be more modular, teething issues in gaming the first months but was sorted swiftly, most of my concern was the audio pops i used to get that has not come back since February drivers 2023, performance has just overall improved and at least been much smoother real world use for me, (typically running 2 games at once) been on mostly 24/7 and the PC has been through windows 10, 11 and now the same PC is on linux.
The entire point of my build has been using such an odd machine to just work, and it does.
Nice to see that Intel is doing better. Love competition when it comes to technology.
sell expensive crap full of problems that waste lots of energy and attempt to dominate markets?
Btw Bryan, are you able to steam to RUclips with an Arc GPU and Intel's own software? I haven't been able to with my A770, and I also cannot find a single discussion about it online.
Also for me their software refused to install or launch initially, it took a community thread from more than a year ago to tell me to unpack the GPU drivers and I believe do some command line stuff to get it to install. Then for the Arc-specific program with the recording software, that I was able to install but it wouldn't open up. Nothing I tried worked. But after some days or weeks I was suddenly able to launch it. All-in-all the software side seems terrible still, and from my recent experience it is still (and I guess always will be) best to assume that any DX9 or earlier game doesn't run properly, until proven otherwise.
The arc a750 is good and all, but whenever I try to edit any video captured using OBS in Adobe primer, the screen is just green no matter what format or codex used
Great show.
Can i use after effect on arc a750. Plzz reply
Been w8`n for this one:)
Would you recommend this for an older system as it would be quite the budget choice for me? I have i7-7700, 32 GB RAM, ASUS Strix B250G Gaming mobo (no resizable BAR as far as I am concerned).
I am planning to upgrade in a year or so, currently Ryzen 8700G is my desired brain.
I don't think that cpu supports resizeable bar. While Arc will work, it won't give the best performance without rebar support. You would be better off with AMD or Nvidia on a cpu of that era.
Capture card issues seem like a real problem if you are a content creator. How is that acceptable?
It is a good thing to see a third player in the discrete GPU market. But I don't know how well Arc has been doing overall. Their most popular Intel GPU's are still the embedded ones found primarily in laptops and netbooks.
'm more interested in the productivity value of the Arc series, as the prices do appear reasonable (outside of the above mentioned RX6XXX series mentioned) , and the drivers have been making some strides forward.
I primarily use Linux and Opensource software, and i hear the Arc drivers in Linux are also doing quite well, too. I like to stick with open source to avoid dealing with software licenses. I suppose.
I have been hobbying in digital animation for a few years, not taking it professionally. Vector animation eats up a ton of system resources, and it only scales up with higher resolutions. especially in the rendering. Arc GPU's seem like they would excel in that area.
Would they be a good option because of the future updates because of how new they are.
I bought the arock a770 after amd killed driver support for my radeon vii. After a few updates I haven't had any issues with the card other than the driver update in arc control is broken. I have to go to the website to get the new driver

I think you'll be very happy with it. The 750 is a very good card.
Has Intel fixed the high power consumption during idle? Saw an article online it's fixed but also saw forums saying they still have the issue.
No it's not, I have an A770 and it's 40 watts at idle
imo intel cards are pretty good if you know and are willing to troubleshoot and know what settings to enable. Like how enabling re-bar is pretty much essential, to being up to to like a +30%-40% increase in performance.

1 year ARC770 FE 16GB user here. Dota2 runs perfect, CS2 had some issues with the latest driver, had to roll back. The led costumization options of the FE version and the card itself looks beautiful. Davinci resolve and HD RUclips run smooth. Like that they keep updating those drivers.
Honestly as long as you can handle the short comings of the arc cards it is worth while, Amd/nvidia are just chasing the money.
@@jasonvors1922 Yes, in the current GPU market conditions, competition is more important than ever.
I picked up an ARC A770 16 gb for $239 through WOOT (amazon overstock or something) and after getting REBAR configured (had to be redone after changing CPU to 5600X). I ran benchmarks. Seems pretty stable. Not as good as my Radeon 6900XT 16 gb but I think it a good card. Got it to test and eventually sell in a system.
Ayyy! I recently finally caved in about bought an A770 LE.
Unfortunately though, it completely craps itself in my main game (Crashday: Redline Edition, DX9). Additionally other older games I tested (DX6, DX7) are rendered completely broken, with polygons stretched to hell and back and textures utterly destroyed as well. In my other frequently played game, Assetto Corsa (DX11), it actually did almost as well as my 4060 Ti. The framerate was slightly lower and there were occasional stutters that I don't have with my 4060 Ti, but it was just about good enough.
In the end though, if it can't play my main game, it's not something I can realistically use, so it's sitting pretty on a shelf now. I'll keep it as a reminder of Intel's brave but troubled entry into the dedicated gaming GPU industry.
Did you enable REBAR?
@@mintymus Yes, ReBar was enabled in the BIOS. I also confirmed this in Intel's software.
Is the A380 better than the 1650 now though?
my a770 runs pretty decent. the only complaint is that it does not work well without some registry changes in solidworks, which kind of sucks and i hope they sort out on consumer cards to at least some degree. i know they have their workstation cards but the consumer cards could at least be usable.
These GPUs are an absolute steal.
With the arc cards, there's still no official support for PCVR gaming. There's workaround with virtual desktop but no wired VR to my knowledge.

It seems like the phrase "there is good and bad" is the key opening and ending statement for every Arc review, the good has grown a lot, the bad has shrunk, but is still there. I have had an Arc 770 LE 16GB since January 23, and have been very fortunate that the only game I have had true troubles with was Starfield at launch. The only game I play alot that is older is No Man's Sky, which uses Vulkan, and runs perfectly on the A770. I would be OK putting a lower end Arc, like an A380 or 580 in a lower end PC that I was selling as an office PC with some gaming capabilities, but would have to think twice before putting it in something I was selling if I weren't it to someone I wasn't sure was technically savvy enough to understand what they were getting. Besides, I can sell a PC with an Nvidia 1060 for the same amount as the same PC with an RX6600.
tried out the a770 8gb and without getting numbers through benchmarks i cant tell if there is a rx 6600 or the arc doing the gaming job. i bought it used for 180 bucks and it should not cost more than 200 new in my opinion. the 16gb version is about over 300 bucks here in germany and at this pricepoint i would buy an 6650 xt. yeah i know 16gb of vram...nice but if u look what most of the ppl play u dont need 16gb. not for the strange premium prices.
there are some good cards on the market for the casual gamers. i hope the next generation would be better performance with better pricing. i dont care about high end stuff, my usual customers pay 600-1000 euro for a gaming pc. and when one single component is higher priced than your whole system... well i guess you are one out of one hundred the few who can afford that just for play some games and spend one or two years later the same amount of money to hold the line.
To be honest,if intel will get better in terms of drivers,i will consider in the future an Intel GPU if they keep the price as they do now.The future is bright for us consumers😊
To be dishonest, I'd do the same thing.
I'm using an A770. I could be doing worse, considering I needed to replace my GPU during the great gpu shortage. It had the advantage of actually existing and was only scalped at $100 over retail. Due to the sunk cost fallacy that results, I am not able to justify a replacement now, since it hasn't exploded or caused a singularity or anything.
how to a580?
"Archilles Heel." I saw what you did there. Nice!
To be honest, this refinement in the drivers should be in effect from 2026 I believe, intel needs time to provide the improvements

I am considering having Battle mage in my upcoming desktop setup. Here's hoping that they launch by late 2025.
I use a A380 for Linux OBS encoding, it does a pretty good job. I have videos on my YT channel just playing games etc.. Twitch is 6k, and YT is 10k AV1 _(thought YT I think automatically will convert or show vp9 unless you force it otherwise)_
I USE A AVERMEDIA CAPTURE CARD ON THE A380 _(usb, on linux, no fancy software needed)_
I can turn off HDCP I believe on the capture card(usb) side, but the easy fix is just avoid hdcp content. Not hard.
Intel claim you can disable HDCP in the registry on their website. For Windows at least, I don't even know if the Linux Intel Mesa drivers allow HDCP or if it can be disabled.
Oh I have an Aver too as my main cap card, how do you disable it on the capture card side? No option in obs that I could find. I'll check out the regedit too, but why can't they just make an option like nvidia and amd?
@@techyescity The AverMedia come with their own software to configure the thing and once set you can just move it to any machines USB port and it will keep those settings. There is a HDCP setting in the AverMedia software's settings section somewhere.
Alternatively you can just bypass HDCP completely. I've done that on my PS3 and my Samsung devices with an HDMI splitter that also doubles as an HDCP stripper. It's a bit clunky to set up but it works when you need it.
@@GeminionRay Yeah you can but not all splitters can do it, I think you need a 2-output one simultaneous. And if you have a 120-240hz 4k setup then your options get even more limited.

On newer games like Ratchet and Clank it performs wonderfully especially taking advantage of the 16gb vram.
I could deal with drivers issues since Intel told us from the beginning that it could be rough and older apis wouldn’t be ideal.
I bought it to give Intel a try and support. I’m tired of Nvidia screwing gamers over with insanely high prices.
Unfortunately Amd is in the same boat
whatever in Japan I guess I wasnt too impressed by the emulation of prior directx I play some old games you see maybe if they had better drivers and faster cards I might be interested
Why nobody test 2080ti?
Bought mine arc a750 challenger brand new for 100€ :-)
Got my 7yo son a a770 it's a great card for his first PC.
Same for me 5 YO son, 10 YO daughter, 6 YO nephew, and 8 YO brother.
hmm. ive been looking at these this morning. just by coincidence.
Still a mess.
Fantasy prices looking around again in my country a750 is closer to $310
The power usage is madness (I don't understand how they are allowed to get away with it many other consumer products have strict rules yet these parts can get away with it)
2:52 WHAT!? A rtx 4060 is beating a rx 6700xt in this game!?
the 6700xt is old old news
I have been gamming with this card for over a yr now You keep Mentioning BUDGET Your 1 man with 1 opinion. This card is Great mid range Maybe but Damn sure not Mediocre
by anyway shape or form So you keep supporting Amd and Nvidia with there WAY OVERPRICED Cards And YES they have a Advantage over INTEL card But Intel HAS BEEN around Longer Just not Competing in the GPU WARS.
The way you have colour coded those graphs is confusing....
I like the A770. Makes more sense than a 4060 imo for the same price. The A750 is only $200 and thats tough to beat too.
Toasty Bros threw A310s in Optiplexs, because they needed a single slot solution. The Optiplexs didn't have reBar, but they did quite well for what they were.
I lucked out and found an ARC a750 with the Acer predator cooler on Amazon for 170 USD shipped. Goes down as one of the best PC purchases I've made, plays pretty much all the games I want at 4k with minimal issues.
I doubt that haha
@@pballyonyon it was sold as used like new, hence the discount
In offers I can get rx7600 at say 21500 and Arc is at 17k in India... I think I will choose RX7600...
