  • The following songs sung and recorded by Mahalia Jackson are very quiet, ballad-like songs. In these songs in particular, Mahalia loved to use her unique interpretative freedom to interpret the lyrics and express her personal feelings and belief. Ornamentation, metrical openness and an enormous dynamic range bring these songs to life.
I was inspired by this without trying to imitate the singing, as this would be a hopeless endeavor on the piano. Rather, I have emphasized the simplicity of the melodies and brought in some musical formulas that are reminiscent of her great piano accompanist Mildred Falls!
The world-famous "Amazing Grace", which first appeared in a hymnal in 1831, is probably the best-known song of all. It has been interpreted and recorded by countless artists.
The second song, "God Spoke One Day To Me", was written in 1949 by Doris Mae Akers (1912-1995). She wrote over 500 gospel songs in the course of her life.
The PETROF concert piano P 131 M1 was recorded with a Rhode NT 4 A stereo microphone.
