Got that same cymbal and had the same bell/edge problem on an Alesis Strike module, I opened it up and found two piezo plug connectors, I flipped the two plugs and all good👍 not bad cymbals
I have 5 of these, 4 as crashes one as a ride, all of them had the bell/edge reversed for a ride, however it is a very easy fix, if you pop the cover off the bottom of them there is a simple little white 2 pin plug coming from the piezo that just needs to be swapped to the opposite socket. They are a great cheap alternative to the name brand units.
I have several Lemon cymbals/rides that work as they should. And, important, the bell zone trigger good. Far better than the CY-13R where it is more like hit and miss... I ended up selling all my Roland cymbals, repacing them with Lemon cymbals all around (I have 3 kits).
Somehow, I want to revitalize my sleeping drumming heart just for this cymbals alone! I would say better than most in value and sheer awesomeness! Thanks for this review!

So I am going to talk about the Lemon 16 inch triple zone cymbal I received yesterday. My 1st impression upon holding it was it seemed lighter and thinner Then the Roland cy-13 I am used to. This I liked. Also no imperfections or damage so the product is clean, and manufactured well. Upon putting it up and plugging it in, I was excited to have this 16 inch cymbals footprint take up the real-estate the cy-13 did not. All 3 zones are as, if not more responsive than the cy-13. Feel is also similar. A noticeable upgrade on the Lemon cymbal is the bigger bell surface. Very comfortable to play and very expressive. Triggering is accurate and dynamics are there. If there's one improvement to be made, it would be the cymbal choke. I wasn't able to get a solid stop in cymbal sound when choking the edge, but it does choke, just not as sharp. Beyond that I am super satisfied with this cymbal. I am also a fan of the price. Considering the ATV 16 inch goes for 500 plus dollars. Sometimes, we take chances with our purchasing power. I was ready to be underwhelmed or disappointed. I am pleased to say the gamble paid off. This is a great cymbal, and a tremendous deal. That's so bizarre how the bell chokes, haha. Just out of curiosity, did you ever try a different module? I have used mine now on a TD-17, TD-27, and TD-8 (in conjunction with the aux input) and it works on all three.
Hi Justin, it's from my DYI eDrum custom kit. There are different wiring schematics (as most know). However, it may be wired to Alesis' specs. Or the polarities on the switches are reversed. Sure there is a 50/50 chance while wiring. Yet the complexity doubles with three (Roland - Alesis wiring possibilities. Excluding Yamaha etc). Thanks again for supporting our drumming passion. Yes, the way the modules detect the bell switch from the edge switch is that one closes direct to ground and the other closes to ground through a 10k resistor. Alesis and Roland conventions have that resistor swapped.
@@DrMackSplackem No resistor is needed for roland modules. Roland relies on timing. If the piezo gets agitated at the same time one of the two switches closes, it assigns the corresponded zone.
@@matenorth That is right. No resistors in Roland. Both the edge and the bell are Choke sensors. If one of them closes at the same time of the piezo trigger then it sends the corresponding zone. If none of the Bell or Edge gets closed then it detects the bow
@@edrumsense Interesting. I don't know anything about their new products like the digital ride, etc, but in the original Roland Vdrum patents, timing doesn't enter into the bell/bow/edge note selection equation. The only timing mentioned in the patents was for pads with positional sensing (no switches involved). There are three channels on a TRS jack. The output jack's tip transmits the piezo's vibration to the module, and the the ground (sleeve) channel completes the circuit, leaving the ring as either open or grounded within a window of time that is either inside or outside of the piezo's exitation exceeding the threshold required to trigger a NoteOn event. If it's just barely inside that time window, then it registers this as a strike on either the bell or edge zones and produces the corresponding MIDI note; if it comes later, it means a choke of that note has been performed, and this is communicated to the synth engine through poly aftertouch. This scheme can also produce a dampened note if the switch is pressed during the strike, though I'm not aware if Roland even recognizes this (other modern brains do, such as Megadrum). Thinking about this, I can see how Roland pads, with their dual output jacks, could clearly differentiate a bell hit vs. an edge hit, but this would be due to there being two discrete 'ring' conductors, one for bell and the other for bow. Again though, this has nothing to do with timing, and I can say that Megadrum has two cymbal triggering modes, one for Alesis and the other for Roland-style pads. Before this was implemented, if you had a reversal of expected zones, you needed to swap a resistor from one switch to another and it would work as intended. It could be the case that in the Roland's input circuitry, a 10k resistor from a closed switch to ground will increase the time-to-threshold for the switch to register as 'closed', but still be quick enough not to be mistaken for a 'choke', but then that makes Roland's dual jack design seem even more curious.

Hi. I'm also a singer/guitarist wanting to explore drums. Been doing A LOT of research. I'm thinking either Alesis Forge or Behringer SD80.
Does this work on the forge?
How does the rubber feel? How hard do you have to strike it compared to roland cymabals? Does it wobble like a roland cymbal?
It is actually fun to play with! It is more sensitive than Rolands in my POV
Great cymbals for its price!!! Thank you for the review
Test the lemon t950 with a Roland kit
Worth considering for the price. At least for a crash/china/splash
Lemon vs cy15r ?
Nice review!
Ever seen the Gunking brand cymbals? Look similar to Roland but in $100 range.
Definitely checking it out now! Thanks
I like your hand gestures
Very good deal! Excellent quality for its price 👍👍👍
Good shit for its price. Recommended 100%
wow i might just buy them straight lol. by the way demonic sweater uses td8
This is a great cymbal for it's price!
How much $ are they? Or did I miss that part? Thx for the review, happy drumming everyone!🤘🤘🤘
16in 3 zone $115
14 in dual zone $85
12 in 3 zone $70
I paid $30 shipping for 4 cymbals.
Straight from alibaba buying with a 14 inch as well is cheaper from what I've seen
You can get two 16" triple zone cymbals for about $150 shipped off Alibaba.
Great cymbal for the price👌🏻
You're probably the last person that I would tell "you have the cables flipped around". I think you know what you're doing haha.
Good voice. Good context.
I'm currently using TD25 and Strike Multipad inputs for 3 additional Yamaha cymbals. (See here: ruclips.net/video/-9lL3o2AYGY/видео.html)
I'd be interested to know if anyone else has these Lemon cymbals working ok with the TD25 ?
I think this will make a nice low cost crash on my a2e I'm doing soon
Awesome review, shout out to Demonic Sweaters!!!!!! Great channel, he just released his own 10” acoustic/electronic snare on reverb.com its very cool check it out. Definitely considering buying one of these, will contact the email on screen for hooking up 65 drums Justin with the gear for a honest review. I already have a CY-15R this would be a nice size crash cymbals for my kit, my CY-12 is looking too small for my kit now
I bough from the email also, it is doing well. 👍👍
Just open it up and swap the connection /shrug
perhaps
Switch the internal wires…and it will work flawlessly…
Awesome! Now show reliable is Alibaba? Don’t no anything about it 🤷🏼
I review the gear, not the store lol. Any online store from China has an element of risk. If you don't want to take the risk, go by a Roland CY16 instead
Almost bought this today. Glad i saw your review, im sticking to Roland
I have both Roland and the Lemon ones with my TD 17 with the price, I think the Lemon ones are more worth it!
When life gives you lemons, make a review video.
Given that the wiring of the piezos of your particular cymbal were messed up at the factory, I'd say you got a ..... LEMON! HAHA!!!
F
Pun intended lolol
@Derek Frampton aKa 1PaPaD1 Actually I heard that too, but it sounded like he didn't realize he used the term that is also the name. Maybe the joke's on Justin? Or maybe he's that good, so it's really on me?
@Derek Frampton aKa 1PaPaD1 Perhaps...maybe unintended as well.
Am I the only one who finds it funny that Justin reached out to Justin? Just me? I have no humor okay don't sue me.
Looks you “ got a lemon “ lol 😂
Internal wiring probably was reversed
Watta cymbals, noice! 😃
