Bro I’ve been watching you forever, and I have no idea why you don’t have more subs. I respect you for putting out so much great content so consistently, thank you for everything!!
I got this hi-hat really early on the first few days it was available, ran into many issues at first (only given the one super small clutch and rotation stopper, no washer etc), after some back and forth they very quickly sent out a larger stopper then later on the washer / gasket. Glad both of these are standardized now so nobody has to deal with nothing fitting on a thick hihat rod (I had a proel Tamburo hi-hat at the time which is even thicker than Tama's, got an Iron Cobra 905D now). The new cable also fixed every issue I had with it, plays perfect for me now. Great reviews as always!
I fixed the thick rod (heh) issue by ordering a Lemon hat stand at the same time (an extra £20 or so). I'm certain I'll lose that rubber washer at a gig soon though 😬🤔

I received my 14" hi hat and 20" ride yesterday. The hi hat and ride both trigger great with my TD11 module. The hi hat uses a different clutch that's easier to install than the 12" version and is a big improvement over the lemon vh11 equivalent I was using before. The ride has a ~13cm diameter bell that is raised around 2cm above the surrounding edge zone at its highest. It does vibrate a bit when crashing, but a slight threshold increase removed any mistriggers.

Great video, Luke. Thank you. I assume there's no issue when connecting to a VST like SD3 as this is handled in the usual manner thru module/VST settings (VH11)? I have a TD12. PS is it HHS not HHC?
Thanks Nick! There shouldn't be any particular issues due to using a VST, no. As you say, the module handles the triggering and open/close, so as long as everything is set up right between the two devices, all should work as expected. No, it's LE-HHC12. The DM10 doesn’t have an offset option for its hi-hat controller calibration settings, so the extra travel distance should create that offset physically. Which is great, because Alesis’s own Pro-X hats (designed for the first Strike Pro kits) are… not great, even after the firmware update enabling their use

Wouldn't you want to keep that localized piezo on the opposite side, away from you, so you never hit right above it? That might take away some of the trigger 'hot'ness, as well - no? (Just my intuition, I have no experience with it.)
Hi Like, very nice review. I own an Alesis DM10 MK2 pro kit. I saw the alesis strike controller in the video. Would it work with the DM10 Controller? The output for the hi hat is one cable from the pedal and one cable from the hihat pad. Thanks
Hi! Thanks. Do you mean if the DM10 hi-hat controller is compatible with the Alesis Strike module? I assume so but I can't confirm it from experience as I've not used one myself.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop I'm also interested in this, I own an Alesis DM10 MKII Pro kit, is it possible that this Lemon hi-hat fits my module, given that it fits the hi-hat from the Alesis Strike kit, since the module has an option to switch from the pedal to the pro x hi hat, which is hard to find now... I would be grateful for an answer...
I'm not entirely certain because I believe the TD-20 preceded the VH-13 hi-hats and doesn't have a setting for them? This might work with the VH-12 setting but I don't know for sure as I didn't test it myself. I would imagine you could at least get it working similarly to a VH-11/FD pedal with the washer if you used the FD pedal setting - the VH-11 and the FD-7/FD-8/FD-9 pedals all operate basically the same as far as I know. There won't be any specific settings for dealing with the pads clashing together though, other than the usual threshold etc. Unfortunately I can't confirm any of this myself, it's just my best guess based on what I do know!
I currently have a model that probably does not support this hi hat (an mps 1000 module). Are there any other ways to use hi than buying a completely new module?
Thanks for the review ☺. Is it worth getting this as a replacement for my Vh11 on a Td30 module? Also how noisy is this compared to a vh11? Many thanks in advance, happy drumming 🤘 🥁
I've not used a VH-11 for quite some time so I can't do a direct noise comparison, unfortunately. As I mentioned in this review, the sound of the two pads coming together is a bit louder than one-piece hi-hat solutions and the Lemon pads themselves are a touch louder than Roland's in my experience due to the thinner rubber on top. Whether it's worth getting this over a VH-11 really depends on why you would want to upgrade - is the VH-11 not doing the job well enough? The playing size of this and the VH-11 is the same (12 inches). There is a bit of a difference in feel due to the bottom plate but it's hard to say whether you'll find that worth it or not.
I bought it on Amazon and after a month I have a started to have some problems, but Amazon told me that I can't have warranty after 30 days, so what do you recommend me?
I guess it depends whether you want a two piece or one piece hi-hat! You can get more false triggers with a bottom plate, but you get a more satisfying change in response of the stick when the bottom plate pushes on the top (if you value that). Personally I'd probably use this over the VH-11 or VH-10 due to the price and feel.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Well, that answered my question (VH-10 or this). I actually have the VH-10, but I've found that the closer to an acoustic hihat my eDrum has, the better for me. I know that it is completely not necessary (strictly speaking--i.e. everything can be controlled by an electronic pedal), but somehow, I need the mechanical response--especially if I'm keeping time with my hihat foot--even more so now that I've started playing acoustic drums... As always thanks for the excellent review.
@@stevenreich8623 Maybe some good info for you to know. I just bought a VH-13, which is similar to the lemon HHC12, to upgrade from my VH-11, which is similar to your VH-10. My opinion is that the VH-11 is more predictable, consistent and faster on the open-closed controller side of things. The VH-13 feels a bit more realistic to play on the top but the difference is barely noticeable. I am currently switching between the VH-11 and VH-13 all the time but might to back to the VH-11 and keep the VH-13 as a spare (I do live gigs and like a spare of each component). I would only recommend the 2-piece hats design if you want them for the looks. In your case, the Lemon hats have even more disadvantages over the VH-10 like the hotspot and questionable build-quality. Long post but I thought this might me useful to you.
Hey. No, I've not run into any issues on the TD-17, once used with the rubber washer. That could be a trigger settings issue or it might be an instrument volume thing. The easiest thing to check is that the instrument volume hasn't accidentally been turned down. You can check this under the Level setting. If it's definitely not this, try another pad in this input and see if the low volume still persists. If it does, try the trigger settings. I found the Lemon hats to be "hotter" than Roland cymbals so normally it would be the opposite, but check that you're using the right pad preset and that sensitivity settings are set high enough that your harder hits are going up to the top of the trigger monitor graph (or reaching near to 127). If they're not, you might only be triggering low velocity sounds. If you can't get it to do this, there might be a physical issue with the pad.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Hi Luke, thank you so much for the detailed answer - which makes me sound even dumber when I say that the preset was assigned to some BRUSH hi-hat for some reason...changed it to a normal hat and it worked right away. So far I'm really happy with the Lemon hats and I made the purchase based off of your excellent review! So thank you very much!
I don't know for certain but I don't *think* so. Yamaha hi-hats usually use a different controller type to Roland modules and they don't tend to be cross-compatible. Since this is a Roland-type controller, I don't believe it will work with any Yamaha modules.
I don't think it would be ideal to have a larger pad that overhangs the bottom plate, but I suppose it could possibly work. The main issue with swapping the top pad out at all is that most cymbal pads have chunky jack boxes on them. This gets in the way and stops you from being able to properly close the two pieces (I tried my 13" Yamaha cymbal and a Roland CY-12 and neither would shut properly). The top cymbal of this hi-hat has a thinner, more streamlined jack socket which is located in a better place for this use (like the Roland pads that it's clearly based on).
So far they're still working fine, but admittedly I haven't used them extensively over that time. I spent a long time testing a different kit and I also have the VH-14D that I usually use when my Roland modules are set up, so I've only used it the Lemon cymbals now and again with other modules.
I think it's more to do with my stand than anything else. The felt/tilter that it's sat on never stays completely flat. That said, the bottom plate does appear to be moving more than it did when I first set it up. It never feels wrong or bad though when playing.
How do you get those tama cymbal mates to stay put on your cymbal rods? My cymbals are resting on threaded rods and no matter what I do they want stay on.
I have a couple of rods that they just don't seem to hold onto as well, especially if pressure gets exerted from below. But generally they just stay on most stands if I don't over or under tighten them, as long as they're 8mm posts.
I haven't gigged my eDrums for the last two years, so it's not a consideration I need to make at the moment. I would probably stick with my older setup of my PCY135 and FD7, purely because it's less equipment to carry.
Did you ever try? I ordered one and will be trying it on my nitro mesh kit. I’m sure it can only give me an open and closed signal and nothing in between, but I think it should work.
*EDIT* - I probably should have looked in the manual! Apparently it does support the VH-11 hi-hat, so in theory the LE-HHC12 should work with that module as long as you use the washer like I showed in the video for the TD-17. Previous reply - To be honest, I'm not sure! I *think* it might work with the washer in the way that it works with the TD-17 like that because the VH-10/VH-11 pedals operate the same way that the foot controllers like the FD-8/FD-9 do, but I can't be certain as I don't have a TD-4 module to test it with. I'm not sure if that module has the full range of open/close sounds either.
Feels pretty similar to most electronic cymbals, to be honest. I've not used the VH-13 recently enough (or for long enough) to say whether the Lemon hats feel definitively better or worse than them.
If the TD-9 can support the VH-11, this should work with the washer. My guess is that it can as the VH-11 is basically the same as an FD pedal, but I don't have a TD-9 to confirm myself.
I imagine so but I've not tested it myself. The information I can give you is all in the video - If you use the 3mm washer, the hi-hat can act like a VH-11 or VH-10. If you don't, it will only act like a VH-13. So depending on which of these controllers your module supports, you can work out how to use this hi-hat with your module. If you don't know, check what presets are available on it or look in the manual.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop it's possible to connect a vh-11 so I don't know if it's worth do the change with my cy5 to obtain a more realistic hihat, i don't know if the presets of the module gonna work, thanks for your info!
Ok, so if it supports the VH-11, it will have a VH-11 preset and should be able to support this hi-hat, as long as you use the 3mm washer with it. Whether or not you think it will be worth swapping your CY-5 & foot controller to the LE-HHC12 is going to come down to personal preference. The actual open/close range will be the same, but you'll have the physical motion of the pad moving on a stand and the change of feel that you get from hitting a pad that's "free" compared to the more solid feel when you push down on the pedal. Some people find that to be worth the upgrade, some people don't! The actual sounds that you get from open to close on the module won't change either.

Just did a quick check and my understanding is confirmed here: facebook.com/groups/alesisdrums/posts/3599561330299848/?paipv=0&eav=AfYQx7pYPRnlKQGKbdtpIRglwbB_7n9vvSPgI_a6OLCOwqrbiVTaQNUDLiGyEY6A4iM&_rdr
Thanks for your "helpful video clip" 👍
Hi Luke, for TD17 user, which one you recommend between VH10 and this?
Wondering the same
Wouldn't you want to keep that localized piezo on the opposite side, away from you, so you never hit right above it?
Very, VERY good video! Does anyone know if this will work with Roland TD-20 ? Thanks!
Are these compatible with the Ddrum DDTI trigger interface?
Hello! Its compatible with Roland TD-17 KVX? my VH-10 is dead 😞
Can you share your settings for the edrumin?
So how did this compare overall to the one piece hi hat setup ?
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Really appreciate that :) Cheers!
Anyone tested on the Roland TD-10?
just curious ....
say , i have a 14 inch hi hat top ... could i use the 14 inch top , and the lemon bottom hat ? if not why ?
I bought it on Amazon and after a month I have a started to have some problems, but Amazon told me that I can't have warranty after 30 days, so what do you recommend me?
Can I use this hi-hat with a Roland TD-07?
I can not get the splash on my Roland TD11
Hello can this unit with with Alesis Strike pad?!?
Anyone
Cool video. So this or VH-11? What are your thoughts?
this
I guess it depends whether you want a two piece or one piece hi-hat! You can get more false triggers with a bottom plate, but you get a more satisfying change in response of the stick when the bottom plate pushes on the top (if you value that). Personally I'd probably use this over the VH-11 or VH-10 due to the price and feel.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop Thanks mate, much appreciated
Funcionaría en un Roland Td 11?
Hey bud, should I just buy a used Roland hi hat for a few hundred? Less hot spottting
Hi Luke, have you had any issues with using the hats with the TD-17 module? The volume on mine are really low, and I can't seem to figure out why.
So thank you very much!
i have a nuxdm-10, will it work with it?
So this does work with the TD-17?
Does it work with Yamaha DTX PRO ?
does this work with alesis nitro max kit?
Do these high hats work with an old Dtx 502 modules?
I don't know for certain but I don't *think* so. Yamaha hi-hats usually use a different controller type to Roland modules and they don't tend to be cross-compatible. Since this is a Roland-type controller, I don't believe it will work with any Yamaha modules.
Have they got triggers for the hi-hat stand so you can play hi-hat solos like Max Roach?
I'm sure you could get creative with the placement of a trigger like a Roland BT-1 for something like that!
i have a Millenium 1000 kit , hmmm the Hi-hats are so poor in quality last maybe three weeks , now have a Lemon so far so good
A 12” hi-hat is so tiny. Do you know wether it would be possible to use a larger pad as the top piece?
I don't think it would be ideal to have a larger pad that overhangs the bottom plate, but I suppose it could possibly work. The main issue with swapping the top pad out at all is that most cymbal pads have chunky jack boxes on them. This gets in the way and stops you from being able to properly close the two pieces (I tried my 13" Yamaha cymbal and a Roland CY-12 and neither would shut properly). The top cymbal of this hi-hat has a thinner, more streamlined jack socket which is located in a better place for this use (like the Roland pads that it's clearly based on).
How are we doing for the Lemons durability another year out from review?
So far they're still working fine, but admittedly I haven't used them extensively over that time. I spent a long time testing a different kit and I also have the VH-14D that I usually use when my Roland modules are set up, so I've only used it the Lemon cymbals now and again with other modules.
Open close seems to work much better than the Roland ones which suffer from this
Do the cymbals seem particularly sloppy to you? The video makes them look like they are traveling a lot.
@@TheeDrumWorkshop thanks!
Missed opportunity for 14"
Luke, is it good enough for you to change your gigging setup?
I haven't gigged my eDrums for the last two years, so it's not a consideration I need to make at the moment. I would probably stick with my older setup of my PCY135 and FD7, purely because it's less equipment to carry.
Does it work with the Alesis Nitro Mesh kit?
Did you ever try? I ordered one and will be trying it on my nitro mesh kit. I’m sure it can only give me an open and closed signal and nothing in between, but I think it should work.
Thank you for this video. Would anyone know if this works with an Alesis Crimson 2 module?
Also interested by the answer.
Will this work with the Roland TD-4KX2?
*EDIT* - I probably should have looked in the manual! Apparently it does support the VH-11 hi-hat, so in theory the LE-HHC12 should work with that module as long as you use the washer like I showed in the video for the TD-17.
Previous reply -
To be honest, I'm not sure! I *think* it might work with the washer in the way that it works with the TD-17 like that because the VH-10/VH-11 pedals operate the same way that the foot controllers like the FD-8/FD-9 do, but I can't be certain as I don't have a TD-4 module to test it with. I'm not sure if that module has the full range of open/close sounds either.
how does it feel to hit? I have a vh13 and hitting feels terrible
Feels pretty similar to most electronic cymbals, to be honest. I've not used the VH-13 recently enough (or for long enough) to say whether the Lemon hats feel definitively better or worse than them.
Did you play with your sensitivity settings on vh-13. I did and the result was incredible!
@@campbeja001 wut? the response is fine. I'm talking about the feel of hitting it with a stick
It’s compatible with alesis dm10 module?
Unfortunately I don't have one to test it out. I would hope so since it works on the Strike but I have no way to confirm it, sorry.
does it works well with donner ded 400??
I've not used any Donner kits so I don't know, unfortunately. Sorry.
What about TD-9? Works with that?
If the TD-9 can support the VH-11, this should work with the washer. My guess is that it can as the VH-11 is basically the same as an FD pedal, but I don't have a TD-9 to confirm myself.
Compatible with a td11 module?
I imagine so but I've not tested it myself. The information I can give you is all in the video -
If you use the 3mm washer, the hi-hat can act like a VH-11 or VH-10.
Roland td17
What about it? 😊
Folks do we know what works with Alesis Strike Multipad?
This has been a journey of shite show.
Is this compatible for the alesis nitro max?
Is it compatible with Alesis Command module?
Can this be used with Roland SPD SX Pro?
Will this work with the Millennium MPS-1000 module/kit?
Unfortunately I have no experience with any Millennium kits so I couldn't say. Sorry!
