You NEED to check out the MTI auto orchestra (full foot controls, and string machine), Wersimatic (stringmachine!), Böhmmats (just cool), and Wilgamats. So much bonkers and there are lots of demos on the tube.
There's a video from Hainbach where he tours an Italian museum for Italian Synthesizers. Some of them are friggin amazing like the CRB Computer Band 2000 which is like an 80s synthwave band in a box or the Elgam Carousel which sounds like its predecessor, so it's more 70s and sounds a lot like the one from this video.
My grandfather (102 this year!) has had a Godwin organ in his house since I was a kid, and the sound of this definitely brought back memories. I’m pretty sure I was the only person who ever used it, messing around with the settings and driving my family up a wall with an enormous racket. Too bad it didn’t have a headphone jack!
Sam, it's fantastic to see the enthusiasm in your expression while playing this instrument. You've certainly breathed new life into the Goodwin Drum Marker Box. Exceptional music - absolutely love it! 👍
Grew up with home organs in the 70s and 80s - one of them the exact Eminent Solina model at 2:25. The sound of auto-accompaniment is the idle sound in my head ;-) You're a treasure for showcasing the Godwin, Sam!
You’ve unlocked a core memory and made me realise it wasn’t my Yamaha DJX-IIb that got me hooked on beat boxes and arpeggios, it was messing around with my grans organ with built in accompaniment (when I could barely reach the bass pedals and the keys at the same time).
Your videos are packed with so much content, information and entertainment - they’re superbly written and presented. I often dip in and out of my affair with synths but I’m always here enjoying the content.
it has that ethereal 60s feel. Kind of reminds me of when organ players used to play in old people's care homes, and they would be playing Spanish eyes etc. sounds great with effects!
Once again Sam, Brilliant! You've got a knack for working out what these machines can do, then pushing beyond into what they potentially could do . . do doo . . do doo doo . . doooooo.
Those guys in pink shirts are an example of a Swedish "Dans Band (dance band)" The strange clothing is because of tax reasons -to write off the clothes you wear during performances you have to wear clothes that it's absolutely clear that you won't wear outside the stage.
3-channel color organs! Oh yeah! My dad got some of those to be 'hip' -- we just loved to run around screaming (ours had microphones in them to pick up ambient sound -- some were wired into speaker outputs) to see if we could get all of the lights to light up!
I think we have all Auto-accompaniment machines made in Europe. It's about 17 units in all - each one with a similar design of a separate keyboard controlling a main unit. Godwin alone made 5 models of which the Drummaker 45 featured in your video is the most common. We have plenty of videos of auto comp machines on our RUclips.
cool! yeah tis a good one! never intended to get it, but stumbled upon ha. got an eminent solina organ arranger sounds similar too wonder if there is a big shared patent. or all just copied each other
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER Thanks for the reply. Great video as always - I agree, getting separate outputs and individual drum volumes is tempting, we've had that done to a few of our machines as well, but we try to avoid drilling too much since some of these are immensely rare, we have some real odd ones like the Godwin CD1, CD2 as well as the MPS08. Some have the strangest names, like the Elgam Crazy Band 48... 😁
@@LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTERtenho um teclado Casio CT403 que não está funcionando normalmente, conhece algum projeto em arduino ou chip M208b1 que possa substituir a placa main deste modelo de teclado ?
My grandma had this old school piano keyboard thing from the same era and I'd do anything to get that experience back it just had a charm to it that was unexplainable, the beats and selections were almost exactly like this except with the addition of a full size keyboard. It was about the size of a small piano and stood upright on its own.
This is a great addition Sam! The separate outputs really make a huge difference for sure. It would be interesting to ad individual drum outs, but also if there were any adjustable parameters for the voices. Also, if the triggers could be made available as outputs or in the case of the drums, inputs. I guess the note values wouldn't be easily translated, but CV or MIDI values vor everything woyld be really fun. All gets a bit crazy, might make more sense to make a virtual one with samples! Clef, Wersi and Dr Bohm all had accompaniment machines to name a few.
same idea than me, giving what he did previously with some old instruments. If it is a pin by note, with MIDI it would be very easy with a little program like he did with the organ . For CV, the most easy would be a CV->MIDI transformation.
So many nice machines. Thank you for your good Video and for the rescue this amazing hardware. Sorry, my English is not so good. Many greetings and a happy new year.✌🏻
A good new year with a crazy project, transforming an old outdated, cheesy organ system , to something musical, creative, and even good sounding with the effects. You just have to connect the pins of the keyboard plug with some MIDI system for a perfect project.
It always makes me think of a brave little toaster situation where all these lonely abandoned instruments get fixed up and end up all living together in this happy synth bards lab where they spend the rest of their lives making music people love and being cherished.
There's something about the arpeggiator section that reminds me of Jean-Michel Jarre. I can't find any reference to him using and Godwin instruments, but he did use plenty of organs from that era. Makes we want one!!
I have no musical talent, so of course I was fascinated by these types of "accompaniment" when I saw them in a mall in the early 1970s. They used to have organ stores in the mall, and there was one right next to Sears at the Cerritos Shopping Center. (I'm sure everyone knows about Cerritos, California thanks to Star Trek Lower Decks...) Aaaaaanyway, there used to be a guy demoing one of the organs using all the accompaniment to bang out "Spanish Eyes", and I wished I could even manage that! This brings back lots of memory of those days.
Damn.....you remind me (your playing) of the French Band the Rockets..... listening now to the "on the road again" album. Thanks for the memories. YOu Rock
shit me that track at 12:00 was way better than I was expecting! amazing results from the gear, shows that limitations really do foster creativity when you have great musical sensibilities. and a tape delay ;)
Ve are Showroom Dummiess........great job pulling sounds out of it that probably weren't intended originally! Part Kraftwerk, part Joe Meek, with a slight touch of Perrey & Kingsley....Bravo!
You always manage to unearth those quirky machines and every time I'm surprised at what those machines can produce, either natively or modified. I guess if you had two of them (one original for posterity and one modified for your more immediate needs) it'd be just fine to modify it to unlock more possibilities. You also made me realise that back in the day, when I was a young lad, I would have had far more pleasure owning one of these slightly modded ones, than some commercial synth from another brand :) Happy New Year Sam and may 2025 bring you something good and unexpected !
Your fearless approach to repairing and repurposing these machines is commendable and frankly amazing. I would spend about a month just thinking about what to do before attempting anything like this.Any interest in bringing back the Mighty Wurlitzer at Nprthlandz in New Jersey? It appears the thing is falling apart and in danger of being decommissioned entirely. Thought of you when considering their fate in a recent RUclips video about the beast. At any rate, great work. Oh. BTW, the music was enjoyable in this one too.
HOLY CRAP!!!😅 Looking at this wonderful piece of shit I think: how quickly the progress jumped from that dream from my childhood to modern studio in just one computer...
I believe what the silkscreen on the front is saying is you change the speed of the auto-variations by holding the white key and selecting one of those others, which is fascinating! I've never seen chorded key input controls on anything this old. This thing sounds great. Every computer history video essayist should get one of these
Seeing how cool this unit is and your observation that they all tend to sound quite similar has got me thinking - would it be a worthwhile project to extract the auto accompaniment section from an old organ into a new box? Lots of old organs available very cheap or even free, if you collect. I'd love to try it but just having the space!!

I swear, Sam could make music with a pine cone, a shopping bag and a bucket at this point!
He would solder a 6.3mm jack to the pine cone first

I'm hearing a bit of Stereolab in there
Sam, you always have the coolest videos.Thank you LOTS😊
So many sweet Godwin spots.

Just goes to show what talent can do, superb show of your ability, thanks
Happy 2025 !! Thanks for keeping us on our toes ; )
Once again, your creative and innovative skill are on display. Thanks for the video. This unit sounds great with the effects.
I used to own a Godwin string concert. I also had the MS10 you use. That was in the mid 1980's. The string synth was an exceptional keyboard.
I did not think one of them old wood grain accompaniment machine could sound so good those Effects makes worlds of difference
Those guys in pink shirts are an example of a Swedish "Dans Band (dance band)" The strange clothing is because of tax reasons -to write off the clothes you wear during performances you have to wear clothes that it's absolutely clear that you won't wear outside the stage.
What beautifull sounds and drums. Thanks, did not hear that for a long time.
It’s great to see/hear original instruments being used ‘outside the box’ so to speak. Great video.
Man what vibey accompaniment machine. Usually they a little lame but not this one. And 5/4? Never thought I’d see that on one that’s frickinawesome
Haha! Cheesy but bloody brilliant when you bend it!
Thanks Sam and have a great new year! Awesome as always!
I can't even... Just about the best I've seen in ages. Pure joy.
3-channel color organs! Oh yeah! My dad got some of those to be 'hip' -- we just loved to run around screaming (ours had microphones in them to pick up ambient sound -- some were wired into speaker outputs) to see if we could get all of the lights to light up!
Could be easily suit to be an soundtrack to an old DDR
Bmovie from the 70's
Love it!, similar drum sounds to my early casiotone 701. Happy Newyear everyone!!
Your voiceovers are hilarious, Sam 😂
Honestly this kind of machine is 1000% for me as I don’t know (nor want to know) how to play a keyboard. Minor button and major button is my jam
And I won’t be multitasking with me feet at the same time!
Such joy! Great gear and a fun video full of great sounds. ❤
Cool machine. Love your style man.
Thanks Sam! Mad genius at work! Happy New Year to you and all of your loved ones! 🙂😎❤
Accent sam is an amazing person. We all love him

I hear so many trance and techno tunes from the nineties in this one. :) the arpeggios… oh wow.
That was fun. Thank you for this fun and somehow educative thread.
I was feeling a bit down today and turned my frown upside down thanks brother ❤
I love it :)
Now I want an accomplishment machine like this too.
I really like the accompanimenemenement with the effects!!
Awesome machine! You know how yo exprime and combine allí its power together with your stuffff! Very creative! Aaaa! Happy new year!
That thing sounds way better then I remember! My grandma had a Lowrey in the 70's and I blame that thing for my obsession! Great Video!!❤
Very nicely done! It feels like vintage synth demo tracks from the 60's-70's. Cool stuff. 😎
Man, you got some great songs out of that thing!
I had my eye on one of these but didn't have the courage / space to commit. Thanks for saving me! ❤
So many nice machines. Thank you for your good Video and for the rescue this amazing hardware.
Sorry, my English is not so good. Many greetings and a happy new year.✌🏻
Good call on that MIDI and separate drum outputs! I loved it. I remember when organ consoles were the rage.
Lifted it to a new level. Tunes you made turned humble cheese into awesome melted cheese on toast goodness....
Very cool 😎 You have a knack for finding vintage equipment. 😊
This is the most complex one I have ever seen.
I love stuff like this.
I’ve been watching you for years. This is some of the best shit ever great stuff.
Was getting deep cuts by the knife vibes on the groove. Love this thing!
The bass is so good
When I was a kid we had a Farfisa double organ. Slow rock was always my favorite. Brings back some fond memories
Gorgeous sounds ❤
Godwin blues pt1 remember me a lot The Krafwerk sound, and it’s beautiful!
Awesome, i had one for a few years, always good for a laugh + great for sampling

That case gives me major vibes of my parents’ Rediffusion telly back when I was a nipper in the early 80s

Great demo, I’ve not seen one working before but strangely I have the bass foot pedal in my loft.

The snare sounds pretty good 👍🏼
Dude!!! That bass tone is Saweet! Sounds like it could be easily paired with a bazillion effects 👍🏼
Oh yeah.. my uncle had a solid-state home organ in the 80s.. he used to play in weddings and dance parties. Just the same drum machine sounds
Cool thing with a lot of possibilities, put the outputs trough a series of filters and envelopes on one of your synths.
From a great big slab of 70s cheesiness, 🧀 to a pseudo 80s dream pop, only you Sam.
i'll never get sick of all of the cool hardware we used to have
