More or less how I feel about the game on the whole, too. Catherine's not necessarily one of my favorites, but it's definitely one of the most charming and memorable games I've played over the last decade.
+The One True Nobody! I dunno, for me a game that not only stands out but has many great qualities, those would be consider my favorites. Games like Red Dead Redemption for example is one of my favorite games, and one of my favorite rockstar sandbox games. Mostly due to the fact that Red Dead Redemption is set in a setting you don't see often in games. I can think of many great films set in the wild west, but games set in the wild west are few and far between. Personally the last western game I remembered before red dead redemption was Gun, which I believe was a 360 launch title.
A friend of mine huge into Yakuza got me into it by showing me your video. Now I can return the favor and get him into Catherine. Thanks for the great vids, man.
I got most of the the story when i first played when i was 15, well i didnt exactly played it, more i watched the story while my older bother played, i understood almost perfectly the story as a teen, and kinda found myself relating to vincent in what i want in life.
I love Catherine. Definitely the most unique game I played last generation. And I loved how slice of life it felt, even more-so than the Persona games. It felt super fresh, and I hope Atlus does more stuff like it in the future.

You briefly touched on this, but I think a larger theme in this game is the concept of change as an adult. Vincent mentions several times how he wishes things could just stay "the way they are." He's very hostile towards things suddenly changing in his life, but a part of growing up is accepting change. It's also very selfish since such an additude can not only hold yourself back, but others as well (ex. Katherine). At the games "good" endings, Vincent becomes honest with himself and others, accepts the change that's going on in his life. and acts accordingly to what he wants moving forward.
I can definitely vouch for the game overall, but the caveat that any given player might not enjoy one half of the game can't be overstated enough. I am really bad at physical and spatial puzzles, and normal was giving me so much grief that I had to drop down to easy mode and even then I had quite a lot of trouble at times. With that said, there were quite a few instances of moving at a clip, and the act of making progress up the tower is so very satisfying.
You convinced me to buy a game. Again... I bought the first 3 Yakuza games after your exhausting and thorough video on that one. Thanks, I love your videos!

You know, with the description of what Vincent is like, all I can say is, if he was an actual guy in real life, he'd probably be the most relatable person to be friends with, since my days in school with some other student called Atma.
Catherine took me for a fucking whirlwind with it's story and I although Vincent's actions are mostly player based, his character in general is a pretty good inspiration for me as a person because of the determination he gets at the end of the game where he doesn't care what happens in his relationships, all he wants to do is get to the top of the tower and bring the mastermind to justice. Also, I went fucking nuts at an event that happens near the end of the game that I thought locked in my ending but it didn't.
Cool vid, wish it was longer but still awesome. This game is a fucking masterpiece, never played anything like it and Vincent is one of most well-done tragedies in gaming.

As far as Atlus doing things outside of what they normally do, I think Trauma Center was a good example of that. It's a shame we never got one on the Wii U. Also, I think Persona 5 might have stealth elements so that's certainly new for them.
Nice video, Bit! It's funny, seeing you tweet about this game made me rewatch an LP of this game and during that second time I realised how good the puzzles are in this game. It's great to see a puzzle game that doesn't just have one solution for each level, but instead consistent rules that can be applied to a number of situations such that no matter how bad that one sheep fucks up your tower there always seems to be a way around it. Watching this video makes me want to play through the game myself on Hard mode and figure out speedy solutions to some of the levels. More puzzle games should strive to have that flexibility in level design. Also, I just had to ask. What ending did you get on your first playthrough and what's your favourite ending?
This game reminds me a lot of Persona 2: Eternal Punishment in that it takes place in a modern setting with a cast of adults who seem very much stuck in their ways and views. I wouldn't mind Atlus going ahead and doing a slightly more jaded cast again.
And now a 'Catherine Classic' has just popped up on Steam this very day. It seems to have been spared from Denuvo-DRM for a change (Hardly a total deal-breaker, but quite the sour cherry-topping SEGA's been adding to their PC servings) and even includes the native-Japanese VO to boot! (Though oddly no Interface & Text support for the language, at least viewing from Steam UK, but that maybe a SEGA Japan thing).
Hopefully they do more cool original shit like this, maybe when there testing stuff for Persona 6 or 7, cause when you break it down that's probably why they were allowed to make this
Catherine is legit one of the best games I've ever played. I loved the atmosphere and the characters. Very relateable as well. Can't wait for Persona 5 to capture that same feel this game had.
I should probably go and finish the other endings. I was so ready to do all of them but after I finished it the first time I was faced with the reality that I'm bad at solving puzzles and didn't feel like doing it again (or downgrading to easy like a pleb). Also, fuck Ice blocks and the Inazuma technique is bae
I wonder how they dealt with the C versus K thing in the Japanese version of the game bc the C-K difference kind of wouldn't be a thing using any one of the three Japanese alphabets. I guess they were probably just both named Catherine and the C-K thing might've been invented by the localization

In result of this, the English localization could actually make both jokes and more dramatic scenes than the JPN version. But for the most part, both versions of the game dealt with the C-K thing similarly. For example, around the endgame, Vincent screams Catherine's name in the beginning of a dream sequence, yet there are no subtitles, leaving some pressure on the player to decide which C/Katherine is worth going through these hellish nightmares for. However in the JPN version, when Vincent shouts "Catherine," the subtitles are shown, which kinda takes away a little tension there (in my honest, nit-picky opinion).
The puzzle aspect of the dream sequence is always what turns me off, I never enjoyed a puzzle game that lets the puzzle do the work and doesn't spice it up in other ways. I'll play Meteos on the DS till I die of old age because it looks and sounds great, really rewarding and the end result is PLANETARY ANNIHILATION. This though? It's dry chicken.

I tried the demo a long time ago. I'm waaaaaaaaay too slow for this game. My ass was almost handed to me quite a few times from the demo alone. The full game looks like a literal nightmare. I know it's the point, but fast paced puzzle games aren't my forte. I like to take my time and take things slow. EDIT: I had a feeling you would make a video about this game though. Great video.

Also, I think it's worth pointing out that they've only developed a handful of high-school oriented RPGs, many of which have nothing to do with high school, although adolescent protagonists are somewhat common for them by western standards.
