When you initiate an execution, you have to press the button combination that's on-screen and until you succeed, the enemy's talking shit to you. So, depending on which part of the sentence he was on in the moment you finish the input, his death cry's gonna be that last syllable repeating and combining together with some other random syllables.
      it's great

If I remember correctly, the reason fist of the north star's story seems to be made up on the fly was originally it was meant to end with Kenshiro defeating Shin. But due to popularity they had to alter the story in order to keep it going.

This game was my first exposure to anime, alongside Samurai X. I don't remember how and why I bought it when I was just a kid, but maybe the cover was badass.
What's even moreso is the opening. Never have I heard anything so epic. Other than the opening theme of Kamen Riders Black RX and V3 (that also had a PS1 game that I own)
I had no idea what to do, and I never knew the importance of memory cards, so I never finished this game. I never knew that to do all those explody-kill attacks, you HAVE to push the Dpad or faxe buttons according to the shown directions.
Looking back, it was so obvious. But I was but a boy, with friends who are as clueless as I was.
Did you know the reason Kamiya Akira never reprises his role as Kenshiro is because both Buronson and Hara Tetsuo disliked his performance, leading with Kenshiro being voiced by multiple actors? The one for the Ken's Rage games is the only one that they personally approve, if I remembered it right. Wish Ginga Banjo was brought back as Souther in the Ken's Rage games; way more menacing.
Thank you for making this video. This game was my childhood.
Now that that's over with, I would like to nerd out and say that the Hokuto Musou/Ken's Rage games were epic. Much like how Hyrule Warriors was made to be a gateway to both the Musou games and the Zelda games, Ken's Rage was my gateway to Hokuto no Ken, and I never regretted it.
Yes yes yes, Warriors style games suck or whatever. I swear, the majority of complains are usually the same old shit.
Ken's Rage 1 was a masterpiece compared to its sequel, and I like both of them.
Jim Sterling is the only guy I know who took the Warriors franchise seriously. When he didn't like KR2, I needed to figure out why.
Long story short, KR2 is a downgrade of KR1. Graphics were subpar, less prettier than the original.
The animation was limited; yeah, they mimic events that happened in the manga, but KR1 did a fantastic job showing them in motion. I always wondered my Koei Tecmo did it that way.
One Piece Pirate Warriors 2 was released a few months later after KR2...maybe that's where the rest of the budget went. Then again, One Piece has a different art style compared to Hokuto.
Some of the playable characters got nerfed as well, removing one or two signature moves. I also never understand why many Musou games that adapts animanga works remove the jump function in favor of dashing and dodging.
Hell, even their normal attacks aren't as impactful as the original KR1. Especially that bullshit Ultimate Nexus system. What's wrong with good old-fashioned upgrade points? Now we have to grind for scrolls that have certain specific traits and match them all to make a OP build... WHY
I get that the platforming sections in KR1 is kinda BS, but at least they're SOMETHING new for the Musou games, including the ridable vehicles. Raoh's horse, and Kaioh's horse were badass steeds, and we can only ride them by buying a DLC scenario.
The one time we rode Kokuoh, we can't even get off. Epona in Hyrule Warriors was a great step to horseback combat; wished they implemented it earlier.
Personally, the only DLC that mattered are the manga accurate costumes. But I wish they had more; many characters in the story went through a few change of clothing. Some of them are one-time only clothings that are also one-timers in the manga, like Kenshiro's Shura arc suit; he only wore the goggles whilst sailing, and to have them on all the time... eh.
Still, A for effort. Ken's Rage 2 still hold the title of being the most complete experience for reading the story of Hokuto no Ken from start to finish. Well, 95% of them anyway.
None of the Final Arc Chapters in the manga were animated because they felt so irrelevant. Even the ones that have Raoh's son, who came out of nowhere.
The only one that mattered was the Bolge Arc, that resolves the love story between Bat and Lin. And how Kenshiro dealt with it, finally concluding the Hokuto no Ken saga.
There ARE some removed characters, like Club and Diamond from Shin's Arc (could've used them to introduce the spear and claw minibosses, but nope, they're too cruel for the censors or something). The crab guy from the Shura Arc. And plenty others, unfortunately.
Despites all the flaws, I still love Ken's Rage 2. Say what you will about the post-Raoh stories, but the characters were also memorable, and their signature attacks were insane. Too bad Han and the Nameless Shura were DLCs, alongside Amiba, but I think they made up for it with fun movesets.
The fact that the creators of the manga were heavily involved in Ken's Rage 2 made the whole thing legit, no to mention all the canon attacks they made for the new playable characters.
At least the Ken's Rage games are better than Berserk Warriors (come on, let's be real, the English title is dumb, and the chances of a damn good Berserk game is low; only the PS2 one is good lol)
I mean, sure Guts is the main character, but to play as him almost all the time in a game where you can pick multitude of characters... wtf?
Also, the Ken's Rage games are the only Musou games I know of that have more than 2 Musou Attacks. Or 3, since DW7 made having 3 Musou Attacks a thing. More variety!
Overall, I understand the dislike and whatnot. But you gotta admit there ARE some good things that Ken's Rage & 2 have done.
The ArcSys Hokuto fighting game's only flaw is the small roster. Seriously, there are SO MANY badasses in the story, even some of the pathetic villains. Ryuga, Juza, Fudo, Shu, Amiba, Jackal, Devil's Rebirth... Did they ran out of money or something?
Hokuto ga Gotoku is going to be one of the best Hokuto games ever. That's a fact.
And that's all I have to say. Sorry for the wall of text, but I really REALLY love Hokuto no Ken.

The HnK game I have the most fond memories of is the punching arcade game. Basically, you see the opponent on the screen from Kenshiro's point of view while six targets in front of the screen move towards you in different patterns depending on what the boss does. The goal is to punch the targets the instant they light up.

  • @DemonDethchase
    @DemonDethchase 6 лет назад +6

3:48 that's what I thought as well for what I want from a Berserk game compared to some Dynasty Warriors 1 million enemies on the screen but they are all pretty shit at trying to kill you. I like a less is more, quality over quantity in my enemies like Devil May Cry or Ninja Gaiden. Sure Guts maybe unstoppable and the enemies are nothing more than bugs to him, but leave the God mode bits like that to cutscenes and when you play let the game keep you on your toes with challenging enemies. Take for example Dante getting stabbed by about 10 demons, at the same time, and how he shrugs it off like it's nothing in a cutscene, but if that were to happen in game, he'd probably be dead.

I remember being able to buy a new copy of the game for quite cheap back in the days, but always playing from a copy in order to keep the original untouched. It's a little treasure for HnK fans like me, and I really cherish it. Very good adaptation for the times and in relation to the PS1 capabilities. Nowadays it's quite easy to make it look a bit better through emulation - higher resolution, filtered textures, perspective correction and all - but I'm very happy that HyperBitHero chose to show us the game in its original shape. You gave me a nice trip down the memory lane. Thank you, pal :)

It's already happeend and it's called Hokuto Musou / Ken's Rage 1. Basically , what KT did was remake this PS1 game, get the creators to help them with original clothing and some added details, enhance the combat and add a "Dynasty Warriors mode" on top of that, because the story mode of the game plays like a beat'em up. Yes. The main story of Ken's Rage plays like an old beat'em up and not a Dynasty Warriors game. I know, crazy but true.

first hokuto musou is better than its sequel at least, there are fun things to do but it's just another musou mostly. raoh is very fun to play as with kokuoh go, and jagi is fun too, and you can fly in the air really high with souther due to a sort of glitch. a lot of other characters aren't so fun. rei isn't so fun and mamiya is bordering on unplayably bad (granted makes sense but still)

Holy shit I've never wanted so desperately to own a game that I haven't heard about for 17 years.

I actually really enjoyed the 1st HNK Musou game. Your description makes this sound really similar and I'm definitely going to check it out. The new one from the Yakuza devs also looks really great so far. Did you play the Genesis one that was localized into Last Battle? It had a JP only PS2 remake if I remember right. Great video either way.

Yo dude you gotta try out the Suikoden series(or at least Suikoden 3 the best one in my opinion) it has such a deep storyline with fantastic characters and it perfectly capitulates why the ps2 was so great as a console.

How convenient that you make this video right after I've been marketing the everloving shit out of this game on 4chan the past couple of weeks.
Also, here's how beautiful it looks in high res:

so glad Hokuto no Ken is getting relevant again but i`m still hoping we`ll get a good HNK game that actually follows the story with high quality cutscenes Ken`s rage 2 did a good job telling the story of HNK in detail but was bogged down due to an extremely low budget so they had to resort to those screenshot cutscenes.
