Airforce Airguns Texan .50 cal + Lehigh Defense Big Bore Airgun Ammo = Copper Carnage!

- The AirForce Airguns Texan .50 cal is a beast and we have proven it can sling heavy lead slugs with over 800 foot pounds of energy, but you can't shoot copper slugs from a big bore airgun! .....or can you? Lehigh Defense launches airgun specific ammo!
I've teamed up with Lehigh Defense to demo a brand new innovation specifically for the airgunner community! The engineering that went into this concept is pretty sweet.
The issue with shooting normally sized copper slugs through a big bore airgun like the AirForce Texan .50 caliber is that the projectile can't overcome the barrel friction with the amount of pressures we are using. Don't even try it, you will be pounding to get it out and will most likely screw up your barrel.
I've MacGyvered a few attempts in the past to get around this issue using undersized slugs and upsizing some Lehigh Defense ammo using tactics from teflon tape, graphite coatings, to sabot'd slugs to get around this friction issue all with decent results at Deer hunting range of 75 yards and closer in my AirForce Texan .50 cal.
In working with Lehigh Defense, LLC I can report to you all that they have found some secret sauce to get around these issues. From my early testing, this is an absolute game changer! I give you Lehigh's Controlled Fracturing Big Bore Airgun Hollow Points! These are fricken copper Meat Frag Grenades!
This design is pretty genius in that they have CNC'd these slugs to be an undersized bore riding design to have minimal rifling "bite" along the bearing surface. This technique gets around the friction issue.
They also engineered these sweet gas check expanding fins that flare at the base when the air pressure from your valve smacks the slug creating the needed seal between the slug and the barrel in the AirForce Texan .50 cal.
What is so crazy about these is I am shooting these 240 grain pills over 1000 FPS / 500 FPE and stacking them one on top of another at 50 yards with the AirForce Airguns Texan .50 cal.
At impact the petals shed off in 4 angled directions cutting through organs and creating multiple wound channels within the game animal. The base of the slug pushes through carrying the projectile's remaining mass for penetration. Will it be enough for a Deer? Oh ya!
I carry Underwood/Lehigh Defense in my edc Glock 19, it's a 105 grain +p controlled fracturing hp. This company makes great bullets.👍
I got a few boxes ordered last week. Delivered today. These bullets are beautiful in person.
Where do you order them .Just ordered new texan 50 cal and need to order bullets.ThanksHappy Shooting my friend
Great video Chris ! Can’t wait till we get our test samples ! Looking forward to testing these bad boys !!
That would be fun!
Airguns Texan top markotop.... Awesome.
I am getting into this. I never saw one until the other day but with ammo prices this seems like a no brainer.
Lehigh is a mad good bullet maker.
Its just like those "Rip"rounds that have several petals break off😬Damn Nasty Round!
Great video and explanation Chris! I hope they use this video on their website if these become available for your average airgunner. It will sell a lot of them.
That's one smart thinking for expansion tail to locked-in pressures for projections. With this idea Lehigh could build smt like 500 yards capability slug with micro hollowpoint tip. Just a thought... good 👍 shooting Chris.
Very nice! good to see all the tech advancements for airgunners these days.
Great video thanks for demonstrating those Pellets LOL. They are real accurate for close range.
Agreed! These are a fantastic 75 yards and closer ammo choice. At only 240 grains in a .50 cal slug, the sectional density and BC is a bit too low for 100+ yard shots.

Where can I purchase these Slugs
Thank you for all the good information
Awesome man. Its an odd way to marinate some ribs but if it works it works.
Another great video Chris !! Looking forward to Deer Camp !!!
Soon brother! Soon.
Very cool video! It's a great time to be an airgunner. Those have a lot of promise. I'd like to see a heavier core to get full pass through.
Ya - these are 75 yards and closer slugs for sure, but I was pretty pleased with the penetration it was getting. That last test was so much melon (water) and was actually surprised it made it to the back ribs. In a real world situation with a double lung shot these would 100% be a full pass through.
@@UpNorthAirGunner I believe it. I really like how it opens up. As the bottle test showed. I'd love to see what it would do to a coyote or a PRAIRIE DOG! oh man. I'd love to see a 400 grain one for big stuff like bear and elk. I bet the price will be the second half of the last name. Lehigh. Great test though. I'd like to see it hit ballistics gel just to see penetration and how far and in what directions the petals flew.
I like real guns but I also like what I see with big bore air guns. Lehigh makes great ammo.!!!!
Great video man! i would like to see impacts on a clear ballistic gel at 100 yards. keep up the great work!!
Love your Videos, hello from South Florida
I wish Wisconsin had big game air gun hunting
I talked to the DNR and they said they have no intentions of making large bore Airguns legal for big game. The guy was a dick.
They’re still stuck-on-stupid!!!
cant wait to finish getting gun setup and trying these. Thnks you guys Love the videos.Hope to make my own soon
FLAT OUT WICKED!!!!!😳🤯😳
Shoot 20 lbs of clay and cut it in half along the path of the bullet. Makes for a great demo of how much energy is dumped.
Or go watch my video where I did this same test with FBI ballistics gel.
awesome video buddy. those things are amazing
Wow Chris! That is pure carnage delivery! Too bad for the rib-lets but science must be answered and explored right? Thank you for all of your efforts and for always sharing awesome content. I watched your review on the Avenger and could not stand it until I ordered one. I will set it up, play, and eventually give it to my girlfriend whom is getting the "bug". Maybe she will let me shoot my Armada once in a while now. Yellow Jackets are starting to get uppity.....
Ya that Avenger is SWEEET! It slings slugs just as good as pellets which is crazy.
Those things are a hunters dream!!!
Ya Chris; don't forget us .25 guys.....
Take my money. Now for some .457’s!
Air...what an element.
Very good copper slug..good for hunting..
Wher do you buy them Ive looked all over at leigh
LOL 😂 now it’s the wind 💨 😂 j/k. 👍🏼 👍🏼 👍🏼
Hi Chris, I have the 45 caliber texan (love it) but I need non lead ammo here in California. Johnny Law is always looking to bust anyone they can around here. I don't see these copper one on the lehigh site. Can you please direct me to how or where I can acquire some non lead ammo? Much apricated. Thanks..
have you tried a sabot round? i'd like to see how it performs, just remember to oil the barrel =-)
Watch my other videos on my channel Gel testing for the .50 and .457 caliber where I test sabots.
Now we just need full auto and an air tank
Backpack hooked up
Awesome and great video Keep up the great work
Hope they add the .458/.452 sizes. 8)
Thanks for the video, very interesting. Question - does the copper damage the rifling inside the barrel at all? Also, you said these weigh 240 grains.. is there any other weight option? Thanks man keep up the good work
Yes they will erase/damage your rifling in your airgun barrel😞 The only way that i can see these slugs not destroying an airgun barrel is to powder coat them, so the softer powder coating can ride the rifling👍
Amazing
great job chris whats the price and is there a 45 option?
I think they are going to work up a .457 option and if you look at the pricing of their other ammo it looks like these will be in that $1.25 per slug range. Gucci ammo for sure, but for Deer hunting it is like buying mechanical broadheads vs. a field point tip in archery.
Wow,,they would sell lots of these,, great demo
until you see the price tag !

I can't seem to find them anywhere do you know where I can pull them up and see the price on them for the 50 caliber and the 357

I'm trying to find the Lehigh defense ammo
Thank you for you reply back hopefully you can help me I've asked many people still can't find them anywhere
💡It would be sweet if they powder coated these copper slugs so they don't destroy or smooth out the rifling in the barrel👍
I believe I'll be saving some parts of a moose for a field study. I get to take two moose a year in Alaska.
I have moose bone in my yard right now.
A typical moose harvest in my area is about 50 to 100 yards with 70 being average. I live in a brushy area and they have natural paths. I've been hunting since I was 3. I'm now 55
I have access to copper busbars i wonder if those are suitable for making these? Is there a heat class to these monolithic rounds? I have CNCs I can turn these out all day long if they're a game changer.
Great video 👍
The NSA has new ammunition.
45 HP-BT-Knurl.
Will you test it?
Nick really did a great job on that slug. Reduced friction with that knurling and that hollowpoint looks nasty! Make sure to check out Rick's Shooter1721 channel for the testing and review for that slug. Pretty sweet!
Thanks.
I wounder if they been tested in a brass cartridge with gunpowder instead of air
As a matter of fact this slug design started off for firearms and Lehigh sells a lot of this stuff for self defense and hunting.
Those with the super valve are probably going to hit subsonic speeds. Thats going to be very diabolical !
Chris, do you know if they will be offering these for the 457 also? I really hope so
Yeah any updates on the 457 rounds
Save me some beef and water Mellon.
Will a sabot's plastic make it through a moderator or shroud?
That is what I would call a smorgasbord
And idea on when these pellets will be on the market?
Go to Lehigh Defense and search F5 Airgun. They are out of stock.
I need to try these! Do they void your warranty?
Found two boxes of these leghigh bullets now gotta find cups for texan 50 cal nay ideas
These don't need sabot cups. Just shoot them.
@@UpNorthAirGunner ok thanks
Just ordered 3 boxes . Have you had the opportunity to harvest a deer with them yet?
Looking for some to deer hunt with Where can i buy them.Thank you
Cantaloupe marinade for BBQ Ribs??? Assuming that you don't let those ribs go to waste - right?
I had this for dinner that night with D'Lynn's BBQ sauce! Sooooo good!
I know this one is made specially for air guns, but can you use the once(copper) that are made for fire arms that have the flat bottom on the Texan? did you try that?
Anyone try shooting these through a Donny FL brand airgun suppressor? Any risk of damage to the suppressor? That flaring thing sounds like it could expand into the baffles...
I'm actually using a DonnyFL adapter for the Texan LSS where it removes the OEM cap on the end and I have the Ronin supressor on the end. So you might be a bit confused on how these work. The expand on impact of the game animal and not when you fire them. So no issues shooting through a supressor.
🤦🏽♂️
Imagine How much better ..IF they were Brass . Brass is self lubricating. Self dieseling.
I think Brass and Copper's friction coefficient are almost exactly the same.
Good i like
Do they make those projectiles and 45 caliber
Very cool, I contacted them about AG rounds a while back and they said they were working on it, I guess this is them. I just picked up some of there .308 Maximum Expansion rounds for my Texan SS They are too long for the breech so I am going to shorten them and test at 140gn. Not sure what would be better the peel back petals in the Max Expansion or the detachable petals you have?? Time will tell but this is a total game changer for big game AG hunting. I have Texan SS in .308 and .357 and hope they branch out to those sizes as well. Great vid!!
Be careful loading those .308s! You most likely will get one lodged in the barrel. What makes this possible is these are sized to .50 in the .510 Texan barrel with that gas check in the rear. My guess is to get the .308s to work it is going to need to be a .303 sized slug with those gas check fins. We are working with them to get the Maximum Expansion version of these tested as well.
@@UpNorthAirGunner That makes sense, if they are working on the .308 and .357 I might just wait for that. Very exciting rounds for sure. Thx!
@@UpNorthAirGunnerI tested 36 cal sabots with .32 Lehigh extreme defenders .311 diameter. They were not accurate in my Bulldog at all.

Thanks … there out of stock at the moment but at least I know where to look 👀
I think I need aome of these
Interesting way to marinate ribs. :-)
You could really taste the melon even after I smoked them! HA!
Are the black numbers the speed
Will these go into production? Understand they may not let you say
Where can we get them?
Howdy, do these work with Texan LSS 50 Cal - Carbon Fiber? I am using .510 NSA 388 Grain . . looking for a "hunting" round.
Just ordered my 50 cal texan Where do i find these bullets.
where would you get your air tank refilled at? sure is a lot quieter then a 30-06 or 308, my longest shot at a deer would have to say about 100 yards maybe just under, and he didnt run very far
You have to purchase a high pressure air pump that goes up to 4500 psi or get it filled at a place that fills diving tanks. I fill a 70 gal. Tank and take to the range. Otherwise I only get 3 shots with my Hammer.
I give you a dollar so can get a 1 gallon water jug from Wilma Mart.
Need this in .458 soon !
Working on it! I’ve shared the bore diameter and twist rates for the .357 and .45 Texan.

Where can I find these I would really like to purchase some for the Texan 50 caliber and the Benjamin 357
Can I shoot this ammo through my Airforce Texan .50? And where can I get this ammo?
Could you post a link to where to buy these copper slugs at I mean pellets
Wow extremely impressed I would like to see your hit a 10 lb block of clay and dissect it inch by inch just so we can see how the pedals travel
I will be testing in ballistics gel soon!
@@UpNorthAirGunner how many frames per second I hope it's a lot because that would be awesome!!!!!!!😊
just got 20 lbs of clay and going to try them soon on it
I can’t find this ammo anywhere. Seems as though there is a crackdown on .50 cal airgun ammo. Only thing available is from Umarex and Seneca. Neither have great reviews
Burrito, please!!
Ok maybe good for deer hunting about hogs hunting now would Good for I they make them more like 257 357 308 & 457 texan guns
So fucking crazy...
What upgrade have your texan?
Are these made in 525 gr
But when you think a .223 has 1450fpe.
True but it is accomplishing that at extreme velocities. This is subsonic.
Need them in 457caliber
Do they make these for the 457 texan
Maybe soon!
$150 for 50 rounds not for plinking that's insane.
Has this gun been tuned or is it a factory stock rifle?
Bone stock!
did your wife set up the BBQ when you got back home?!?
Need these in .45 or it is a deal-killer and I'll mail this brand-new Texan back to the manufacturer. BTW Lehigh is out of stock on the .50 caliber. Please indicate interest here: www.lehighdefense.com/500-f5-hunter-controlled-fracturing-240gr-airgun-bullet
Do they come in 35 cal ?
I want to buy some of those?
It avoids the warranty on Airforce Texan rifles
It's a beast of a round, but with the air tank and the design of the gun it looks impractical for the woods
Hmmmmm..... you were saying? Watch this: ruclips.net/video/SvtaYUSzYJ4/видео.html
@@UpNorthAirGunner I stand corrected thank you. It's funny that your video is on the east side of Michigan I'm from the SW side of the state and my choice of hunting gun is a smoke pole

@@UpNorthAirGunner interesting
What about on dummies 😅
and only $ 2.00 a pop,,,, hehehehe
LOL! Do you know how much I spend on broadheads? This is a screaming deal in comparison! This ain't your paper punching slug. This is your filling the freezer ammo. LOL!
The fact that they don’t have a lead free slug options is the only reason I didn’t get into air rifles!!, also the fda put out a notice lowering there minim lead exposure to nothing as more research Has come out regarding its toxicity
You still trusting the FDA, after all these years?
@@robmack151 lol no definitely not. But seriously this isn’t about the fda, this is about the fact that there is proof that Micro particles of lead get dispersed up to 8 inches in every direction after a lead bullet hits flesh. And lead toxicity might not instantly kill you but it certainly affects your functioning. For instance it has been shown that certain populations of the Roman empire specifically those in power had high levels of lead and arsenic in their bones as a result of long-term exposure to lead. It has been theorized that this resulted in many of the empathetic and cultural differences between the super rich in the super poor in the Roman empire possibly resulting in the fall of the Roman Empire.
@@gregmcb5305 ... I don't disagree that lead accumulates, and is toxic. I'm curious about particulates in meat, outside of points of contacts like entrance, exit and wound cavity... though most all of that damaged meat is discarded.
That's a whopper
I would like to see these hit an animal from the Hammer or this incredibly overpriced single shot airforce rifle . I want to pull the trigger on one of these big bore rifles . The Hammers multi shot feature makes it the one I would choose but I am waiting until the Sig Air rifle guys put out their american made big bore hunting pcp on the market . Sounds like it's going to revolutionize the product in price and function . All metal platform rifle with up to 800 foot pounds of energy in the 50 caliber and up to 5 regulated shots on a dual tank system with a magazine system said to also be a revolution in a PCP rifles . They have been developing the rifle now for 3 years and it has to make it to market eventually .
So I have been using the Texan to Deer hunt for 4 years now and you know how many follow up shots I needed? ZERO. Here is more food for thought.... Head to head I can put 5 rounds on a steel target hand loading vs. a silly 2 shot magazine. I can hand load a second round into the Texan pretty darn quick if I need a follow up shot.
@@UpNorthAirGunner I have dropped 3 deer in on 10 second period rifle hunting. Having more than one shot is important if you have more than one tag to fill or hog hunt so you can drop more than one of the damn things. It is a need in hunting unless you are not a meat hunter relying on things to feed your family for a year.
Is this ammo available to buy anywhere on earth today? It is like a white whale.
Mmmmm ribs 😋
