Wow, who'd have thought that FC Eindhoven would feature here! The impossibility to be relegated to the Tweede Divisie certainly added some boredom. I would argue that Telstar is a strong contender for "most boring club": no glorious history, in the Eerste Divisie since 1978 (so one year less than Eindhoven) and only reaching the promotion/relegation competition six times. But they did have Van Gaal as a player.
Good explanation mate, its just a shame that second division clubs like HHC Hardenberg or Spakenburg cant promote. I mean i would love to go to those places instead of one of the "jong" teams.

Louis van Gaal played at Telstar in the Eredivisie (not in the Eerste Divisie), notably in the year of their relegation from eredivisie to eerste divisie (1978). Telstar had their finest hour in the final day of the 2009/2010 season, when they were virtually relagated to the amateur league between the 47th and 60th minute. Their opponent in that match (1-2) was ... FC Eindhoven! (FC Oss was relegated, after a 5-1 loss at MVV Maastricht)

Aldershot Town. 13 years in the National League, most recent seasons finishing just outside relegation. Even in 2019 when they should have been relegated, Gateshead were relegated instead for cooking the books.
That's nothing. From the 1974-75 season until the 2009-10 season, Rochdale AFC spent that entire period in the same division, which was initially called Division Three and later renamed League Two in 2004. They were in that bottom tier for 36 consecutive seasons before finally earning promotion to League One at the end of the 2009-10 season
In 1974 it was called division 4. In 1992 when the Premiership started it became division 3, and finally became league 2 in 2004. Also this is Aldershot Town's 11th season season in the national league. They joined it in 2013 after relegation from League Two 😢
I think an underrated reason that the EFL (esp the Championship) is so strong is that there aren't any reserve teams that clog up the fixtures and make the league as a whole look second rate, I'd imagine if a big six club had a reserve team in the EFL fans would boycott their games
Yeah, I agree. It's part of the reason why on FM, managing in the English league pyramid is pretty appealing, I don't like the system where reserve teams actually play in the same league as non-reserve teams, but it's basically present almost everywhere in Europe except for England
I used to be a season ticket holder to FC Eindhoven in 2009. I choose them randomly as I wanted a Dutch club. I loved taking the 172 bus to Jan Louwers each home game. One of the weirdest experiences I experienced as an FCE fan was visiting Ado den haag away. I lived in the Hague at the time and I had to go to Eindhoven to take a combi to go to the game to then go back to Eindhoven. We also played psv once and it was great to be in the away end as an Eindhoven supporter. I now live in Scotland I do proudly wear my FCE sjaaal! If you get the chance to see them please do.

I think Rochdale spent something like 35 successive seasons in the 4th tier of English football although they have been relegated and promoted since that time
🏴next thursday, the champions of the Welsh premier league will be playing against fiorentina in the europa conference. despite the league being ignored and underfunded, the champions have reached a European competition, this could be a huge turning point for domestic football in wales. please make a video about our league's short history, and hopefully it's bright Future
@@jarmoliebrand2005 yes, but for me it's more frustrating than interesting because all of our best teams are in England, while the only English team in Wales is a small border town. hopefully all of the Welsh teams return to our pyramid one by one
I support another club in the Eerste Divisie, the earlier mentioned Telstar. We got relegated in the season after Eindhoven got relegated, and some pundits call Telstar Eindhoven the KKD (the official sponsored name) Klassieker, for neither is getting promoted to the Eredivisie any time soon (especially considering that Telstar has less budget than most top half Tweede Divisie teams)
Another great fact about FC Eindhoven - they are the most recent team, as far back as 1954, to win the Dutch top flight without red on their kit. Willem II - who won it the following season wearing red, white and blue - are the last team to win it without wearing exclusively white and red shirts (as Ajax, Feyenoord, PSV, Sparta, AZ and Twente, the six champions since 1955, all do).
That's not correct, DWS Amsterdam won the league in 1963/64 with blue, white and black. Also, DOS Utrecht won the league in 1958 and Rapid JC in 1956 (both yellow-black kits although I'm not completely sure). Rapid JC is now Roda JC, a fusion with Roda Sport and DOS has merged with Elinkwijk and Velox to FC Utrecht. DWS is now only active at amateur level.
As someone that was born in Veldhoven (Eindhoven's neighbouring city) and lives in Eindhoven, my family mainly supports FC Eindhoven because it's walking distance from where we all live. Almost got myself and my best friend (and his little brother) a season ticket this season... I really appreciate seeing a video about this club, barely anyone knows about it and, as you can see, there's an actual story behind the "worst" of our hometown teams. Even that being the case, we're really proud to have 2 professional teams in our city.
As an Eindhovenaar and PSV supporter it was really interesting listening to someone outside the Netherlands talk about the rivalry and history of both clubs.
I used to have an FC Eindhoven season ticket for about six years as a kid. Going with my granddad, Eindhoven fan. And went to PSV with my dad for about ten years.
I am impressed by your research on FC Eindhoven (although some pronounciations could need some improvements). I think making FC Eindhoven the best team in the city, would be a great challenge for Football Manager players! Edit: FC Eindhoven actually has a promising manager this season. Verberne managed to get MVV Maastricht into the play-offs, despite having one of the lowest budgets (so comparable to Eindhoven). Maybe he can repeat this trick!
I did that in FM20, made them a Dutch powerhouse and finished above PSV for a couple of seasons until my journeyman took me elsewhere. I nicknamed the reserve keeper, who became my main and is now the main keeper IRL Jort "Cyborg"mans, because his reflexes developed pretty well in that save and was an intergral part of my promotion year.
@@deltav864crazy, I did the same thing in my FM20 save. Funny enough I sold Valentino Vermeulen a few years in the game for 10 million to Borussia Dortmund. In real life he actually moved to Dortmund, which was hilarious to me

Fc Eindhoven is not located in stratum. You would only go past it heading out of the city heading south. And even then you cannot see it as it is hidden behind a massive sporting centre

As a devoted FC Eindhoven fan (17 season tickets in a row and counting) i can say that this video is absolutely spot-on. Except that we will definately get promoted this season. or maybe the next, or the one after that. or... oh well.
You pronouncing all our Dutch names is the most amusing thing about this video, ngl 🤣 I live in Eindhoven, so it's fun to see a video about one of our local teams. One small correction to your statements in the video though; it's currently entirely impossible to promote to the Eerste Divisie from the Tweede Divisie. Up to and including next season (2024-'25) the right of promotion has been suspended by the KNVB. They do aim to have a forced promotion/relegation system between the two divisions starting the season 2025-'26, though there's still much discussion about whether this will actually happen as there's only a few teams in both divisions who want this to happen.
Finally someone remembers!!!
Well, Hoffenheim's crest is much more atrocious. I'd have said that it makes them look like an amateur team, but given the context of German football, that would actually be a compliment
Southampton spent 23 seasons (not including the abandoned 1939/40 season) in Division Two from 1922 to 1953. Included in that period was the 1922/23 season where the Saints played 42, won 14, drew 14 and lost 14 with a goal average of 1.000 (40 goals scored and 40 goals conceded).
@@danielkarmy4893 I only remember the fact vaguely from Jeff saying it around the time of that promotion to league 1. Must've been really boring for a while
Boavista's story is just a video waiting to be made, what a chaos club. And yet I was surprised to hear you mention us. From minnows, to being the only portuguese champions outside of the big 3 in decades. From playing Dortmund, Bayern, Inter, and even reaching an Uefa Cup semi-final, to playing 3rd divison football in less than 10 years. Just to come back, with no money whatsoever, survive for 5 seasons, only to be forced to sell the club to the infamous Gérard Lopez during the pandemic, who brought players like Javi Garcia, Rami, Alberth Elis, Reggie Cannon and Robert Bozenik. All of them with salaries that were completely out of our league and whose transfers he DIDN'T PAY. We now have a record number of OVER 30 FIFA transfer bans. We are currently playing with 17 year olds in our squad, because we haven't been able to sign new players for 2 AND A HALF SEASONS NOW. The under-19s have been relegated because every single kid who is even half decent is automaticaly shoved into the main squad. The reserve team got disbanded. Even the female squad, which used to be THE powerhouse in Portugal, only got saved from being relegated to the 3rd tier last season, because another team backed out of the competition. It's a slow and painful death for one of the biggest clubs in Portugal, the 4th biggest football club in terms of trophies. After Bordeaux's demise, we're the only club that Gérard López hasn't yet pushed into complete bankruptcy. We're the only ones left. Last season we only managed to save ourselves from being relegated on the very last matchday. We have even less of a squad this year, so it's unlikely that we manage to repeat the miracle. If we get relegated, it's over. The TV money and sponsorships of first tier football are the only things keeping us afloat, once we get relegated, it's light's out at Boavista. Not even the stadium is going to survive the coming downfall. So if y'all find yourselves in Porto, come to a Boavista match, we're basically doing our farewell tour.
I just love the names of Dutch football clubs. Willem Twee, Excelsior (sounds like a coach company) and Fortuna (makes me think of fortune cookies). But my favourite name is Go Ahead Eagles. Apparently they were originally 'Go Quick'. And yes, that's their actual names, not a translation. Alfie should do a video on foreign clubs with English names. Milan. Bilbao. Old boys.
I can only imagine being the chairman of a Tweede Divisie team, winning the league, asking whether promotion is an option, and from the distance some Dutch FA official lobs a massive rulebook at your head.
It should be noted that there is (technically) a route for teams to get promoted. They'd have to inform the KNVB of their desire to be promoted mid-season then go on to win the Tweede Divisie. However, the KNVB froze promotions and relegations between the Ereste and Tweede Divisies for a mininum of 5 years in 2022.
Do comment suggestions still work? “Footballers who revived their careers after loan moves”. Boh, the idea came from Matteo Gabbia, who was 5th on the CB pecking order at Milan, went on loan last season at Villarreal with no one expecting anything and came back early in January when there was an injury crisis. Now he is a changed player, people talk about him as captain material and he was the derby hero and a starter.
I was thinking about how Rochdale spent so many years in the fourth tier that it become derisively known as "the Rochdale Division", but FC Eindhoven have even them beat (47 consecutive seasons when Rochdale only managed 36)
I love FC Eindhoven and are my dutch team. (Used to be called SBV Eindhoven) was the first team i manged in an online football manager game. There kit is so cool to.

3:20 - Empire. Nice to know someone else describes them in the accurate terms. 5:55 - When the NHL's St. Louis Blues won the Stanley Cup in 2019, they were 15-18-4 in their first 37 games, last in the league. They went 30-10-5 in their last 45 games (the best record over that period, finishing third in the league). Weird things can happen when a goaltender gets hot and carries a team. AAA baseball in North America (one step below MLB) used to have split seasons, first half and second half, and each half winner made the playoffs. Too many teams missed the playoffs by having the best record overall but not winning either half. Split seasons were eventually dropped.
Somehow, I kind of want them to get promoted in 3 seasons time, rather than before, just so they could say they spent exactly 50 seasons in the second division...
I decided to follow Dutch football with Feyenoord. So, obviously, it's great to hear such story. As for the "period win", I kinda figured out what it is because there's the same thing in Argentina but for relegation. Very weird and a great way to prevent big teams from being relegated.
They joined it in 2013 after relegation from League Two 😢
Just happy to finally see one of these that’s not about Bristol City
Never mind not even a minute in and we’ve been mentioned
Although Eindhoven's record in the play-offs is somehow worse than ours!
18:15 here I am thinking the bloke standing second from the left looks very weird just for the shot to zoom in on him a few seconds later 🤣🤣
That closeup was gold
Hahahahaha
If that photo was taken by an American he would've claimed the existence of Sasquatch.
Lmao never would have expected a HITC sevens video about FC Eindhoven but I am all here for it.
FC eindhoven posted on there insta the caption "most boring football club wins 3-2"
Video on the rise of Bodo Glimt, from having never won a top flight league title to having won 3 in the last 4 years and a 4th soon to also beating bigger teams financially in Europe. Also on why their manager Kjetil Knutsen hasn’t left for a bigger team yet.
I think Rochdale spent something like 35 successive seasons in the 4th tier of English football although they have been relegated and promoted since that time
Best football content on RUclips by far. Always looking forward to your next video!
funny you mentioned the invention of the cd, it was invented in Eindhoven
That was the joke, I guess...
Fun fact: the hole in the middle of a CD (or any optical media of the same size) is the size of a Dutch 10 cents coin ('dubbeltje').
This is a much better idea than that one guy's best german players in the premier league suggestion
@@AvatarN🙏🙌
What I think is so interesting about the Welsh/English league systems in that some Welsh teams play in the English football pyramid and vice versa.
@@jarmoliebrand2005 yes, but for me it's more frustrating than interesting because all of our best teams are in England, while the only English team in Wales is a small border town. hopefully all of the Welsh teams return to our pyramid one by one
@@ifan_1234Which, ironically, is the team representing Wales that you mentioned!
As an Eindhovenaar and PSV supporter it was really interesting listening to someone outside the Netherlands talk about the rivalry and history of both clubs.
here after seeing the banner the Eindhoven fans unveiled at their latest game referencing this video
I need to go back to Eindhoven and see some games. It was a great way to try and practise Dutch on a Friday night as nobody cared to speak English.
In real life he actually moved to Dortmund, which was hilarious to me
@@Adjeeeh Don't remember that name, so I either sold him really fast or he was already gone when I got there; I was doing a journeyman so I didn't join in the first year.
Well - there you go! I used to live in Eindhoven. Moreover, I lived and worked in Stratum, and I've never heard of FC Eindhoven. I looked it up on the map, and rather embarrassingly, I walked home past the stadium every day without ever noticing it was there!
Fc Eindhoven is not located in stratum. You would only go past it heading out of the city heading south. And even then you cannot see it as it is hidden behind a massive sporting centre
FC Eindhoven is located in the Kortonjo quarter of Stratum. No question.
@@Justin_the_Analog_IC_architect haha, thank you! I always considered Stratum to be on the inside of the inner ring (=tuindorp). I learned something today 👍
FC Eindhoven is a really fun club to go to. They even have the best business room of the region.
All the statistics are correct but boring? Hell no!
As a devoted FC Eindhoven fan (17 season tickets in a row and counting) i can say that this video is absolutely spot-on. Except that we will definately get promoted this season. or maybe the next, or the one after that. or... oh well.
Who is that player that Alfie zoomed in on from the old FC Eindhoven picture?
I need to know, my future nightmares must know.
I want a whole video about this guy. We need more!

Hahaha, as a PSV fan I appreciate this questionable tribute to our adorable neighbours.
How am I this early 🤣 11pm NZT on a Friday upload… unreal
You pronouncing all our Dutch names is the most amusing thing about this video, ngl 🤣
I live in Eindhoven, so it's fun to see a video about one of our local teams.
This reminds me of Rochdale afc, they spent like 30 years in the 4th tier of English football.
Finally someone remembers!!!
Alfie, correct yourself, the Soviets did not invade Afghanistan, they were invited by Democratic Afghan government to tackle CIA trained Mujahideen.
Idk why but I just love their badge imo
TSG Hoffenheim has practically the same badge.
@@JeMand.Andersat first i thought it was Hoffenheim 😂
I thought the club you mentioned here is TSG 1899 Hoffenheim, since that club, along with FC Eindhoven, almost shared the identical club's crest.
Well, Hoffenheim's crest is much more atrocious. I'd have said that it makes them look like an amateur team, but given the context of German football, that would actually be a compliment
Belief it or not... im a FC Eindhoven fan.
As an American I really wish we had a promotion-relegation system
As a country or just in football?

Southampton spent 23 seasons (not including the abandoned 1939/40 season) in Division Two from 1922 to 1953. Included in that period was the 1922/23 season where the Saints played 42, won 14, drew 14 and lost 14 with a goal average of 1.000 (40 goals scored and 40 goals conceded).
Rochdale spent 30 years in the 4th Tier. Until 10ish years ago.
36 in fact, they were there from 1974 to 2010
@@danielkarmy4893 I only remember the fact vaguely from Jeff saying it around the time of that promotion to league 1. Must've been really boring for a while
Then they got relegated 2 seasons ago...
Milan. Bilbao. Old boys.
16 promotions and relegations?
We are a strange club
I can only imagine being the chairman of a Tweede Divisie team, winning the league, asking whether promotion is an option, and from the distance some Dutch FA official lobs a massive rulebook at your head.
It should be noted that there is (technically) a route for teams to get promoted. They'd have to inform the KNVB of their desire to be promoted mid-season then go on to win the Tweede Divisie.
However, the KNVB froze promotions and relegations between the Ereste and Tweede Divisies for a mininum of 5 years in 2022.
@TheTamaJustice tbf, most of those teams don't want to get promoted, because of the financial requirements and change of fixture dates.
This was both surprisingly informative and funny. Well done indeed!

Todays empty 0-0 game at home was a tribute from them to your video.
Which didn't prevent teams like River Plate or Independiente to be relegated nonetheless.
Video on the rise of FC Heidenheim and their story, how their manager has been with them since 2007 whilst they were in the 4th tier of German football, promoted at the same time as RB Leipzig in the 3rd tier and now competing at the top of the Bundesliga with RB Leipzig despite having a much smaller budget
Everybody is going to pick this team on football manager now.

In the Netherlands there are only 2 divisions (of professional football), so you can't drop lower. Because after that, it's called Amateur football, and no Amateur team can promote to the professional football leagues.
