    Guessing you've sorted this out by now, but I'll still act like a know it all anyway for those who are unaware that might wanna know! The reason you're picking up radio frequencies through your amp with the fuzz face on is because your signal cables (the audio leads that link each pedal) and your power cables (the 9v cable coming from the power supply), are running parallel to one another, this effectively creates an antenna! You should always (if you have to have the cables running next to eachother) have them cross over eachother perpendicularly. Hope this helps anyone wondering!

    You will find that the Fuzz Face can be tedious to learn to use by itself but once you learn to use your volume knob when it's activated you open up so many doors to tone. I think of Jimi Hendrix, Eric Johnson, etc. Also you can always mess around with pedal arrangement which is fun and helps you get different tones. Good work Mimi!

  • @markcronsberry1288
    @markcronsberry1288 3 года назад +255

    Ditch the daisy chain and hook them all up to their own spot on the power supply. You have plenty of free spots left to use. The daisy chain is likely why you’re getting the radio interference. Isolating each pedal on its own port is always ideal.

    • @Triggerboy62
      @Triggerboy62 3 года назад +26

      I was just gonna comment on that. The whole point of using a powersupply like that is to feed power to each pedal from own isolated power sources. Im not going to comment on the overall sound other than it left much to desire... but the dress looked lovely on you ;)

    I just turned 46 in August and I feel like the most lascivious, perverted dirty old man anytime I watch Mimi's videos. I'm such a tool. She is progressing wonderfully as a guitarist and I can empathize with her about the excitement of the first pedalboard. I have been playing since I was 16 in 1992, and ever since outside of a wah or an overdrive here and there I never used a pedalboard. I spent the first part of this year building mine up and it was a great experience. Only tips I have are don't be afraid to experiment and rearrange and if you're going to buy cheaper "Amazon" budget pedals stick to overdrives and distortion. The Donner, Joyo, Mosky, etc overdrives can be quite good. But steer clear of reverb, delay & modulation pedals on the cheap. It's well worth buying a good quality delay pedal for $150-200 than spend the same on 5-6 budget pedals that just don't cut it. Congrats Meem's.

    Game changing crybaby on pedalboard discovery for me was that if you unscrew the little rubber feet you can lift them off the screws, put just the screws back in and it sits much flatter without catching on the pedalboard frame, you get much more freedom of movement. The feet are for keeping it on the floor. I just taped them to the inside of the case with electrical tape so they're with the pedal if I ever put them back on. Honestly, it made a huge difference to how stable it felt on a pedalboard and I have no idea why this isn't more widely shared.
    Also, if you haven't already, consider a true bypass mod on the crybaby. It's not very difficult and solves the fact that the modern ones "suck" the tone when they're switched off but still in the signal chain. There are places where this is useful, at the front of a pedalboard is not one of them in my opinion! There's a really great kit that costs about twelve pounds that includes a bypass mod, a tone switch for a toggle-on-or-off more "Hendrix" wah feel, and some old-spec transistors that give it a much more vintage voicing that to me feels more blues-rock and less hair metal.

    • @briansnyder8382
      @briansnyder8382 Год назад

      Yeah? And not to hard to install yourself? Or is it a leaver to the pros kind of mod? And where could one find such a kit ? If you don't mind me asking?

    • @samwalker7567
      @samwalker7567 Год назад

      @@briansnyder8382 I bought a kit on eBay through a company called GMRSpares. Reasonable pricing and decent enough quality hardware. You could upgrade the provided foot switch to a brand name one if you wanted.
      Came with extremely high quality instructions with step by step pictures and the seller was also contactable.
      It's doable if you have soldering experience and a semi decent soldering iron. If not, find someone who does who can help you out. It's achievable within an evening, even for an amateur. Note that it does involve a permanent modification to the circuit board that removes the always on buffer in favour of a proper bypass. In my opinion this is not a bad thing!

    Try putting your delay in the FX loop of your amp :) putting it in front of the amp causes the pre-amp to amplify the delay, putting it in the FX loop puts it behind the pre-amp and before the power amp, making it sound a lot smoother! Keep up the great videos!🤗

    That's some great gear. One word of advice... try the fuzz face and the TS at the same time. You can roll back the guitar volume and it sounds less like a fuzz and more like a really good distortion pedal. And don't be afraid to turn down the tone knob on the guitar. Of course, with just the fuzz it'll be the classic sound, but you have a more versatile set up than you may realize.

      I want to share my tips how i managed to tame my fuzz face.. as a standalone pedal it's not really impressive.. You seem to have tubescreamer..thats a good start.. Connect fuzz to guitar..fuzz to tubescreamer.. Turn guitar full up and fuzz OFF..dial the tubescreamer to ac/dc type non mastervolume marshallish sound. Now..turn the guitar volume off..max the knobs on fuzz-face and turn it on.. Then start rolling the guitar volume up slowly and discover all the fabulous colors of distortion starting from 'wind cries mary' (around '1' guitar volume) to '3rd stone from the sun'-mayhem (around '10' guitar vol.) and all the colors in between.. i rarely turn the fuzz off when playing Hendrix, instead i learnt manipulating the volume on guitar! Depending on how you want to use your wah, you can connect it before or after the fuzz, but i prefer it after the fuzz and before the 'cranked marshall'-pedal (possibly tube screamer in Your case)..Youll sound like 'Come on (part 1)'.. It took me quite long to figure this out, so i've tried to help other people getting all these nice colors out of fuzz-face that i've fallen in love with.. Throughout the years i've swapped almost all my distortions/overdrives but fuzz has always stayed with me as an option on my board! Best wishes! -Jani

    I utterly understand you're feeling about the Crybaby! The frequencies can be so high, and overwhelming! I personally have avoided them since I was younger. Always searching for my tone that is me. The most difficult quest for me was that. They don't make them like they used to. Whenever I do turn on my various Wah peddles. I've discovered, for me I had to adjust my EQ settings, adjusted to take out a lot of the high end, which was too much. I started using programmable preamps, which are not necessary, yet I have so many tone styles I need to perform, I've really complicated. I'm now using, Crybaby, Vox, Morley, and Rotovibe by Dunlop. I've found that they are better when they all have True-bypass, input connectors. Some have from the start. Still, I prefer to not use them if can. I much prefer a stomp peddle with one adjustment knob. to keep it in a perfect spot for that tone. You are a fantastic guitarist, no doubt. No matter what you play through, or the guitar. You have it, in your Hands, and your Heart. You can make a cheap Squire sound great. Can imagine you with a custom shop. It's good we don't get spoiled early on. That's what they tell me. Look forward to hearing more from your fantastic Guitar. It's also so wonderful to see and hear when the younger generation like you, can see the brilliance of the Great Jimi Hendrix. The Dunlop Fuzz face works better in front of the Tube screamer and /or the TC electronics Forcefield compressor. That way you get the Band of Gypsys fuzz and the sustain. Otherwise you just have a mosquito type fuzz tone with no sustain. Using the fuzzface , Tube screamer and delay together takes you into Roxy Music / King Crimson areas of sonic wizardry with relatively basic gear.

    I first picked up a guitar the end of February. It's so much fun to learn and play. At 52 I wish I would have picked one up when I was younger. My amp can simulate a lot of pedal sounds but actual pedals you can just click with your foot sounds easier than turning knobs on an amp. It has to be crazy being so young helping a bunch of old guys learn guitar.

    When I was building them and still would if I needed to...I would get a 2" thick piece of pine shelving and attach. the pedals with ties run the wiring neat<
    I would use like 16 gauge or what ever was around lol..ya gotta remember back then the Power Bricks weren't prevalent or anything like my friend built mean Regulated 9volt power supply and till the day I never had a quieter supply ..and I would always use a hush noise reduction, as they were coming out in pedals.To, the best of my memory .. lol

    As others have said, take advantage of the nice power supply you have to power as many of your pedals individually. I have the same power supply. Just watch the voltage, there is one that is 18v and 4 you can switch from 9v to 12v. If all your pedals are 9v just avoid the 18v at the end. I have a few different voltage pedals and constantly double check voltages when making changes.
    Oh and place your wah after the fuzz and it should solve the tone issue. Fuzzes like to be first in the signal chain and don’t get along with buffered pedals.

  • @michaelhildreth9609

    You do know that you get drastically different tones when you configure your pedals in a different order (i.e. rearrange how you have them routed in the signal chain), yes? Having certain effects before or after others sometimes changes it for the worse. You have to route them in certain way to get your best potential sounds. Also, as you turn effects on and off your volume is going to jump up and down (like going clean to dirty). If you are playing live you don't want that. You need your overall volume to be consistent as you turn effects on and off. There are ways to buffer the feed and/or remedy that. But just arranging them in any random order and setting all the volumes wherever will never show you what it could sound like if it was truly optimized.

    Your blue fuzz face mini is a silicon fuzz face. Congrats, it was used on the solo to Pink Floyd - Time! Put a buffered pedal like a Boss pedal between your wah and fuzz. It doesn't have to be on. It's about buffers and guitar impedance.

    Mimi..you might want to knpw that jimi used Fuzzfaces at first,but when he met Roger Mayer, Roger used to gut the FF pedals and use them to put his overdrive electronics in the housing. And most of the concerts you see of Jimi Hendrix plugged in to a fuze face, it's actually just the casing and not a real fuzz face at all.

    Just make sure you get the power supply right (NEVER daisy chain). Everything else like pedals and tones are just personal preference. ;-) Don't forget good patch cables, too. I don't usually recommend brands but what I use now is the Hosa patch cables.

    • @EcoCentrist
      @EcoCentrist 3 года назад +1

      eh you can daisy chain if the total current draw of the all the pedals in the chain doesn't exceed the output mA of the power source.
      the only thing that shouldn't be daisy chained is a fuzz face, two transistor fuzzes need their own isolated power source or it could fry the pedal (unless they are modded to be able to daisy chain)
