Use You Google Nest / Home As A PC Speaker
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 авг 2024
- If you have limited desk space or a small PC or laptop with basic sound you might want to consider using your Google Nest as a speaker. Your Google device can be used as a Bluetooth speaker for you phone, but also your PC which will save on space and give the device a dual purpose.
You can also cast audio from selected apps to the device including Google Chrome. I'm using my Google Nest Mini in my new office setup as I don't have a set of speakers for the PC in there and this works for both this Desktop computer and my work laptop.

Thanks for explaining clearly what a dozen other help articles couldn't. I was able to pair my laptop to one of my speakers and then use the google home app to mirror the audio to the rest of my house.
Still great advice in 2024. Had to replace a 10 year old monitor (with speakers) quickly. I had it so long I wrongly assumed all monitors came with speakers. As you're probably guessing the new monitor I bought was speaker less. After realizing my error I started to research speakers until I came across your video. I just followed the bouncing ball and by the end of your video I could hear your dulcet tones on Google Home speaker.
Nice! literally you just configured my google home mini when you were explaining it haha. My device catched your voice. Thanks :)
Same here!! Literally set up my Nest! lol!!
Same it caught the vid voice lol
Brah I literally didn't have to do anything I had my phone next to my GHM and when you said "hey google open bluetooth" it did it all by itself what I've been trying for hours to do so thank you 👍👍👍👍👍🍺👍👍🍺👍👍
My 12-year old computer speakers just broke down today. Thanks to your video, I was able to set up my google nest as a secondary audio output for my pc. Thank you!
Fantastic!
For those with Windows 10 like me (because Windows 11 was buggy in my laptop), I just right-clicked the screen of the tab/page (HBO Go for me) and there’s a Cast option there.
Thanks!

This comment is more useful than the whole video itself
thanks man
well youre wrong. TBH youre already stupid af if yo dont know how to connect to bluetooth LMAO
Couldn't figure out how to do this but knew it had to be possible. Worked like a charm
After years of being to lazy to buy speakers I now finally have one thanks to you
Glad this helped! :)
Mine started working when you said Ok Google and gave that command that I didn't understand, and it started working!!! LOL. I'm so happy. Thank you for this. Have a great day
Lol good to hear. Think its something like connect Bluetooth or connect to my device. Glad it works though :)
first time seeing you, and instantly liked.
Thanks:)
Thanks alot. i didn't even know it can be connected via bluetooth. And the Delay via network was a killer for videos
Just say, “hey google, turn on Bluetooth” and it allowed my computer to find it
Thanks
best method was telling it to turn bluetooth on lmao
If the pc doestnt have bluetooth than how will i turn on bluetooth
Haha that’s what worked for mine as well!! Thank you Andy!
@@Spyderking43303 you can't you would need a wifi card in that situation
Thank you Mr. Andy. I got my device pared successfully!
When he said hey google turn on bluetooth, my own device turned on and did it 😂really helpful video as well. Thanks!
Same here, you know it's a good vid when he literally does it for you
There is no school like the Old Skool. Cheers Mate!!
Thank you very much that was pretty crystal clear ....
Ha! Thanks, mine worked after a laptop restart and I can now watch Season 3 of Twin Peaks (again) on the laptop with sound coming out of Google Home Max. Gotta love working from home. Helpful, thanks again!
LMAO when you said hey google you activated mine
THANK YOU FOR THIS VIDEO!!! You made it easy to do this quickly!
There's a delay via cast. better to connect via bluetooth. Thanks for the video!
finally a use for my google nest since my laptop speakers suck.
cool, after all these years, I learned that today.. good job
Just a note that if you will be using this as a PC speaker and you are watching videos with audio, you will notice that the videos audio is not synced with the audio you are getting from the google home mini. In other words it looks like whoever is speaking on the video the audio comes out about 1-2 seconds behind that persons speaking. The Bluetooth method seems to work better for video with audio.
Yeah the latency on the Google nest devices isn't great. It also seems to depend on the Bluetooth version on the PC. Can be really noticeable on RUclips but for other videos I've managed to use VLC with some tweaks on delay to get to working okay. Its a pity though its so buggy.
no man mine is perfect synced
This man is is brilliant, been trying for days to solve problem, he showed me in a few minutes, thank you so very much
Appreciate the feedback!
Lmao, when you said the Hey google command, my speaker acknowledged it and literally you just turned on my bluetooth for me.
Thank you, fast and easy. It worked :D
Good explanation, Thanks!
Thank you I needed this now I don't have to buy speakers!
liked and subscribed! Thank you for putting the bit in about having the mini turn on bluetooth. Worked like a charm!
Glad it helped!
Thanks for your help. I did not know it for past 3 years
Happy to help
Andy ur Goated
Thank you, the best part was wen you said OK GOOGLE she response to you and put herself in bluetooth jejeje
Love when that happens! :)
Excellent video. Clear instructions. Thank you for the instructions.
Great vid, but my PC is saying that the Nest has a pin and doesn't pair because all pins are wrong.
If there's no pin displayed in the Google Home app try connecting the other way using the Google Nest app to try and connect to the PC. Some people have said 0000 sometimes works so worth a try too. Others have said that if they completely reset the google device that this works but you may not want to do that. Seems like a recurring issue with the Google devices.
I love the fact how your video just activated my Google Mini to activate its bluetooth. Thank you!
Thanks a lot mate, you are a life saver.
My bluetooth speaker is busted, so i need to replace it with my nest mini now
Thank you so much Sherwood,Oregon
my device is setup from your voice :D (( Sound from this video : Okay google open bluetooth. Nest : sure
Lol, automated service from my video :) Nice!
@@AndysTechLife Hey google~ play all video from Andy's Smart Life. Nest : sure 👍
Legit was trying to figure out how to enable Bluetooth and by playing your video around 4:15, Google heard you and enabled it!
Thank you!
Fantastic,thank you,Andy.
Thank you! This was so incredibly helpful!
Set up was so easy! Thank you so much for the video!
Glad it helped!
thanks brother it was so easy to set up a google nest/mini to use as a pc speaker
The only that realy helped me! Thanks!
Glad to hear that!
sweeet I needed a speaker for my pc I have the same setup like you do and i didn't want to buy additional speakers so i was wondering if i could use google nest and yes i could Bluetooth connected and it works beautifully. thank you for this upload
It helped me a lot I didn’t have to waste a lot of time.Thank you
Thanks Andy you made it so simple
Thank you for the help, very informative.
Glad it was helpful!
Great job Andy
the sound of the video made my google nest turn on bluetooth lol
lol hope that's what you wanted :)
Wow worked in seconds! Thank you!!
Great!
Wonderful! Thanks Andy!
Thanks , and you can you make a video about how to cast your PC or laptop to TV?
I'll add to my to do list! Only thing is there's very slight differences on TV models, but I'll see what I can do. Thanks!
Thanks dude! I'd connected it but couldn't get it to make sound, you helped me out! C:
This is helpful. Good to get some use out of my google nest. It’s absolutely the worst device as it needs to be paired multiple times a day and each next day. They haven’t seemed to fix this bug yet
Yeah, I use it more as a speaker now than anything else :)
Hey, I followed your steps and worked really hard to try to connect my Google nest mini with my laptop for hours. When I did it your way, my Google nest Mini appeared as "Other Devices" rather than an "Audio" source. I tried playing through the settings, but it seems I cannot make my desktop a default Bluetooth speaker. Any solutions?
This is very common it seems. Not sure if its the software on the Google devices, but quite a lot of people experience the same issues. Sometimes updating the bluetooth drivers on your PC helps, but it seems like the ability to use as a bluetooth speaker was very much an after thought with these products. I've also heard from several people that factory resetting the Nest device sometimes helps. Not ideal, but does seem to work.
Factory reset worked for me
This helps a lot man, thanks.
God bless you mate :)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! your video help me a lot !!!!
thanks
Thanks for sharing!
Thank you. Worked well.
Second method did work thanks a lot !
So I tried the Bluetooth connection method. Was working for days until today. It cannot find my nest mini in the output device toggle. I can see that it is connected in the Bluetooth and other devices setting but it's not listed under Audio. It's in the Other devices list.
Seems to be a recurring issue. Not sure why, but the only fix I've found is resetting the device to factory settings. I wonder if there's windows updates at play here or something else. It's really frustrating, though.
Great tutorial! do i need to pair it again each time i open the pc? or it will connect automatically and i only need to change the output? how is the latency while its connected via bluetooth?
You won't need to pair again but depending on your setup you may need to connect. Unfortunately with the Google devices the latency is noticeable on video so I mainly use for music.
worked perfectly thanks
Thank you very much :-) liked and subbed.
good stuff
Hey. Can I ask you what speaker brand/model do you have left from you mic/soundhead on the desk? I like that it is single speaker. Do you still have it or a new one? Thanks for advanced.
The speaker you can see is actually an Amazon Echo which I now have playing music in my livingroom. The headphones were GOJI bluetooth I had for travelling, which I think came from PC world, but they weren't great so I'm just using earbuds now, and the microphone was a Fifine K670 I believe. No longer have this, I'm using a Rode microphone now.
Thanku 🙏
any idea on how to connect 2 google homes to your PC to play at the same time?
Windows by default will only connect to one bluetooth audio output device at a time, so it's not really possible. :(
thank you andy. Although it took you 2 minutes to tell me the solution
I do tend to ramble a bit :)
thanks for the video! im trying to see if i need a speaker or a google nest instead.
one question, if im connected to my pc via bluetooth, can i still use "okay google play bla bla bla" without having it disconnected to my pc? say i want to listen to music on my bed but too lazy to go to my pc to set it up
So it will only do one or other at a time. When connected to the PC it's just a standard Bluetooth speaker, so if you give it a Google command it will work but it will disconnect from the PC and needs to be recnnected then. You can try afterwards to ask the Google device to 'turn on Bluetooth' but it's hit and miss as to whether it will automatically reconnect to the PC.
Work perfectly, thank you!
VERY USEFUL . THANX
I connected my Google home to my PC via Bluetooth and it was working then stopped outputting sound after I plugged my headphones in. I use volume mixer to select the Bluetooth speaker and the PC detects sound but nothing comes out. There's a connection confirmation tone when I connect and disconnect but doesn't play anything from a browser etc. Troubleshoot helped once but not anymore even after rebooting and unpairing/forgetting the device.
Even when I unplug my headphones and there's only the Bluetooth speaker as the only outgoing device it doesn't play sound. Help! (Windows 10)
It can be super buggy with the Google Home and Bluetooth. Not ideal but I've had to reset the speaker itself a couple of times in the Google Home app to get it working again. (not ideal) You can try updating the Bluetooth drivers in Windows, but it seems like the function was an after thought by Google and it doesn't play nicely with PCs. I've also seen on a couple of PCs that although you're only connecting 1 Bluetooth device, it appears twice, so you need to trial and error check which is the correct one to output.
Thank you! very helpful.
You're welcome!
What about the other way around? I want my google home to play audio to the PC.
Some of the larger speakers have an aux out for playing via cable, but not via Bluetooth I'm afraid. I don't think there's a PC app for Google home either. :(
Was going to connect the bluetooth and then in the video you say "hey google, turn on bluetooth" and it linked ahahah
Full service from this video eh? :)
@@AndysTechLife 10/10 didn't have to lift a finger ahah
it just keeps connecting until it times out.. what am I doing wrong :(
PS I would love to connect to to apple TV so I can have surround sound with a speaker group in my bedroom. Is this possible??
I've seen a lot of people with the same issue. Seems like they don't like connecting to PCs. You're best options are to see if you can update the Bluetooth drivers in windows. Other people have commented that if they reset the Google device it sometimes works but this isn't ideal. As for the Apple TV, I haven't tried that, but if it support Bluetooth it may connect, but might only output to that so might not give you the surround option you're looking for.
My nest mini is connected to my laptop but will only play music/videos from my laptop. Notifications from other apps like Outlook and Teams do not work through the nest mini. Any idea how to fix that??
That's so weird. If it's connected via Bluetooth and is set as the default audio device, all sounds should come through it unless the individual app let's you specify an output device. Very strange, but best to see if the Nest is set as default audio device, if not this might be the issue.
When connecting as bluetooth speakers for the PC, hows the latency? Let's saying I'm watching Netflix, is there going to be any lag between audio and video?
Yes, unfortunately it can be quite noticeable. Fine for music etc, but for video you can often see the lag between picture and sound. It's very frustrating. Seems like the bluetooth option was an after thought.
Hi, my pc didn’t find any driver to install on windows. What should be done? Thanks
There's no driver for this as Windows only recognizes the device as a generic Bluetooth speaker. So this will only work for audio out, all the voice commands etc. are unavailable. If the device connects via bluetooth but no sound comes out, best to try checking the Windows default audio out device and make sure its the bluetooth speaker. If this still doesn't work it seems that a lot of people have found they need to reset the Google Nest Speaker to factory settings in order to get it to work. Not ideal, but seems to work for some people. Hope this helps.
Thankyouuuuu
i do the same but i get audio lag any solution ?
Seems totally random, I've got the same on one PC, but not noticeable on another. I suspect its how Google implemented the bluetooth audio on the devices. You can try seeing if there's a bluetooth update for your PC as this might help, but I suspect that its the Google devices themselves. Fine for audio, but anything with video seems to cause a lag. :(
The nest shows as other devices rather than audio? It also stays in paired mode. There is no option to connect.
I've come across a few people with the same issue and if updating your Bluetooth drivers in Windows doesn't work the fix seems to be to factory reset the Google Home device. Not ideal but it works for most people.
I have got my laptop to connect to the speaker using Bluetooth but I cannot see the device on output device. It only plays through my laptop speakers, no option to play through Google home. Any ideas?
Thus seems to be really common. The only solutions are to see if there's any Bluetooth updates for Windows and / or factory reset the Google which is not ideal. Its weird that it works fine with phones but PCs don't play well with the Google devices.
yayayay thank you so much!
Is it possible to use both a nest and nest mini simulanteouslyon a PC? Like Right speaker Left speaker type setup?
Unfortunately Windows will only output from 1 Bluetooth device at a time so this isn't possible:(
thank you!
This is a very helpful video
Very helpful thanks!!
Ty
Could this work if I am using a laptop hooked upto a monitor but I want my laptop speakers to remain while using that 2nd screen and sync the monitor output with the google home since my monitor doesn't have speakers.
Probably not since Windows by default only let's you use one audio output at a time. So unless you can custom control and have multiple outputs from your sound card it will either output to Bluetooth or a wired connection and not both.
Great vid!
When I pair it to my pc using Bluetooth it goes to my other devices section not audio. That means when I click the volume button on the bottom right the speaker doesn’t come up as an audio source
Seems to be a recurring issue with a few people. Happened with one of my devices on my desktop but worked on my laptop, not sure what the issue is but all I can suggest is to see if your bluetooth drivers need an update or maybe try to pair from the Google Home app instead of from the PC
@@AndysTechLife I got the fix, for myself at least. I unplugged the google home and deleted it off my Bluetooth list and then reconnected it and paired to Bluetooth again and it works!
Nice, glad you got it!
@@AndysTechLife thanks, hope anyone else having the same issue find this too
Thanks mate. Your finding saved a lot of energy and time
is there any audio lag??????using bluetooth???
Yes unfortunately, its fine for music and most uses but sometimes noticeable on videos :(
