I smoked for many years and paid the price. Parts of my gums, tongue, throat and jaw. This was back in Oct of 21. I'm now over a year clean but you know how that goes. If I have to do battle again so be it. Thanks for the info but a little too late for me. I'm glad your helping others. Thanks.

Back in 2005, I had this little white irritating lesion toward the back of the tongue.I am not a smoker. My doctor, doctors from 13:46 looked and didn't know what it was. A recommended ENT said it was nothing, but I persisted. I had some biopsies come back as leukoplakia and when I saw my dentist, he looked and turned ghostly white. He recommended a oral surgeon he knew. A year went by but I had biopsies done and this tumor was gray and squishy. Feb.14th 2008 I got the news. A portion of back tongue was removed. Then very aggressive radiation for months. Met my birth sisters that year and one had similar complaints-she put it off and it ravaged her mouth and jaw. She did not make it. Early detection is the only reason I am here blessed with 16 years of survival! I have jaw necrosis and my teeth that crumbled after initial treatment had crowns and they are now breaking off on a whim but I am alive!

Everyone quit smoking but cancer is on the rise. I'm still trying to figure that one out. Maybe all the nicotine was poisoning the cancer like chemo?
