11:00 Makes sense to me. It's an accessible enclosure right next to the board, it's pretty easy to find the ring legs if needed.
That bell wire is probably 'broken' because traditionally, they have a chime/bell as well as a button and powersupply.
yea both ends will be where the bell was.
Hmmn. Top class electricians not understanding a door bell circuit?
Bell push to transformer = a buzzer circuit. Briefly!
Funny that !
Nice vid gents. Are you sure there wasn’t a bell or chime box in between the CU and doorbell push button location ? It’s very unlikely the bell wire would run straight from CU to push button. You were linking it out at CU to test for continuity ? 🤔
I thought the same
Great job Lee and luke 👏
Great video love it so much and great team work
Cracking job, and an interesting configuration for the ring mains which makes sense to me.
Top, top job that my man!
11:21 - Just pretend we didn't see that blowout plaster 😂 Good job, very neat and tidy board change 👍👌
Top job Lee 💪🏻 nicely done
Legend!
Great job you guys love the double stack board 👍
What a beauty!
that is one nice job guys!
good work Lee and Luke. hope you found the van keys now .
While there are cases where you don't want to link the earths out because of DIN terminals connecting them together (rings as it makes ring testing a problem for example), IR testing isn't a good reason, as when IR testing your CPCs should be connected to earth, there's never a test which has them disconnected / isolated...
Good job, end result very neat, well done,
Very neat. Metal box would also need earthing but I am sure it's done
Yes I always use the separate connector for earths, and bond the metallic box using a separate 10mm earth cable (to take the largest possible current caused by a circuit going down to the box). Hope you did bond the box somehow ;)
I just mentioned that, good to know it's not just me.
@@jeffreyfearn5662 Yes that metal box is an exposed conductive part and should be earthed.
@@socialscene6361 Either Lee is now going 'of course I did' or booking a return visit (either is fine, NOBODY is perfect. More electricians need to learn that)
(myself included!)
@@socialscene6361 I am retired now but as a designer I had to make sure that any metal enclosure that held mains power was provided with a dedicated Ground connection. Also had to provide an additional Ground connection for the cover as it was assumed that the fixing screws were/might not be adequate in some way. A bit over the top perhaps but that was the requirements then and the QA were ready to pounce if not present and that included the placing of Green Earth Symbols at the connection points.
To comment on another question from someone, was not the change from Plastic to Metal enclosures due to the requirements of Fire protection?
Did you do an earth to the metal box? As a live cable touching the metal will not run to earth.
Just like doing plastic conduit you can't use a metal lid.
What a fucking job I would be over the moon with that. I remember seeing the instagram post and thinking the same thing then too
Very neat board(s) Lee
One point to bear in mind with your MCB/RCCB is the neutral won't be disconnected in an over current or short circuit condition. Depending on the manufacture's requirements / instructions it can be an issue. There is a different part that Hager have ADA932U - Single Pole & Switched Neutral - 6kA B & C Curve Type A 2 mod wide (36mm) RCBO that may be a better choice in this use case. With the ring circuit it will may will make testing a little more complex and I'm sure most licensed tradesman would figure it out I could can see a scenario where it causes problems. I have no problem with your solution meeting or exceeding the rules & regs, its that by simply extending all the conductors 1 to 1 you avoid the call back should the EV inspector come out and issue you a defect notice (which has happened) and it wouldn't have taken much more work. I try to follow the KISS process as there is no shortage of stupid people out there...
Nice job.
Don't forget to bond the metal enclosure!
I thought the same thing... previously the din connectors would have done it until they were swapped.
I still prefer Wago Topjob through terminals in any DIN rail enclosure. Cage clamp connections every time.
A well laid out installation. Well done.
Lol I love the film studio behind you 3 boards change and a doorbell ( one costly doorbell 🤣) Wago box soooo much easier 👍
PMSL are you two for real!!?? The bell circuit requires a chime BETWEEN the TX and push. It's clear to see you boys are from the radio frequency era.
Was there a chime before the board
I have to say you and you work mate do same nice work keep it up 👍👍👍👍
good work
Nice video - good chemistry between these two. Loved the DINN discussion and the attention to detail with the bell wire behind the cement. Keep 'em coming !!!!
Glad you enjoyed it!
16:11 We use the one with metal connections all the time in Belgium in industrial and domestic .. difference is we don't need to to any EIRC's for every circuit . Also we do'nt have any order of connecting the earth to the earth bar like in UK . ( needed when you need the isolate the earth of 1 circuit to measure ..) And in this case its confusing if earth's are already connected together before entering the fuse board .. Yello-Green color with no metal connection also existst i think .
Yes a lot of other countries have a system JUST as safe as ours, without all the rigorous testing requirements.
I'm trying to remember if I've seen any, but when using the insulated DIN rail connectors have to use the earth symbol to denote it is for earth.
@@jeffreyfearn5662 Yes, bit of the ubiquitous g/y tape would work but i wish they'd make g/y terminals that did NOT bond to the DIN rail...
where do you guys get your trousers?
Using 4mm cable is ideal; the cable is rated for the breaker, all your doing is connecting the connection point, using less material, etc. Lee, are the din rail terminals maintenance-free ?
So neat. I presume the metal connecting enclosure is earthed, somehow? Lovely job.
Exactly for this everybody use a metal enclosure for. If you not like saved earth level do you use a plastic enclosure e.g. plug, socket, aso. So many countries change from metal CU's (and products) in the 60's to plastic CU's for more safety to the people. Funny that the UK change now back to metal products.
In the UK, in many properties the CU is located in a cupboard under the stairs. Electrical fires, often attributed to poor electrical workmanship, are not contained by plastic enclosures. So the logic goes: return to metal enclosures. The wording in the standard, BS7671, is ' ... non-combustible material ... ' if I remember correctly. The intent is to contain potential electrical fires enabling homeowners to escape their property ... and reduce the risk to emergency responders who arrive to effect a rescue.
Nice job! The shallow DoF camera work is a bit distracting at points though! I'm guessing the cameraman has some new glass they are playing with?
Should have gone with a fusebox double stacker and used a miniature RCBO for the hypervolt...
Lovely job
Thank you! 😊
Nice job there guys, that old mk consumer unit looked pretty interesting with the switches on the MCBs
Thanks! 👍
Nice job! Hager double stacker….did you remortgage for that 🤣
Great video again, really picked up a lot from watching that. I just don’t get why the customer would opt for the ugly surface mounted FS & transformer over just charging the wireless version every couple of months..
If you use tuf sheathed or steel armoured cable. You would not require the rcd at the consumer unit. This would also prevent you having no segregation between the 30mA rcd in the board or the built in one in the EV charger. Also make it easier as you will not either have to isolate the ev one turn the function of on the device.
nice video but did you get the keys lol
Lollipop method. It’s shown in bs7671 👍
Instead of the 4mm² to the rings, what about breaking the rings and making two radials on 20A each?
We often do that for upstairs rings, but only if we find a break
3 additional RCBO’s would be required. That’s £90. Extra hour or two of labour finding the mid point of each circuit and making sure you haven’t accidentally disconnected any sockets. That’s another £90-£180 (to client).
You then end up with 6 socket circuits that need a lengthy description on the label.
All this for what purpose exactly? Because ring circuits are no longer fashionable?
If it ain’t broke…
@@IronDave100we don't use rings here. It's an option but never seen.
Total socket circuits in this yard is 32 plus 2 three phase sockets and one of those has a single phase socket as well.
But yes we were never normal here 🤣🤣🤣
Neat work guys.
I hope that is not the electric van you are charging your drill batteries from? Would be nice to get home the same day!
😅
I’ve only just picked up that Lee is left-handed 👋🏻
Nothing better to do gang.. ✌️
11:00 I would say it’s fine, but when doing end to ends would obviously have to do at a socket
Yeah big no for me I’d like to be able to test at the board as well
Awesome video

@@FinlaysFireSystemsElectrical lol well now you know

shame the adaptable blox isn't white to maych the other fittings.
I thought you shouldn’t disconnect the cpc to do an ir test. Surely the neutral could be nailed to a copper pipe that’s earthed and wouldn’t read down with the cpc disconnected? Unless you repeat the test between the neutral and the earth bar and defeat the point of disconnecting the earth in the first place? Excellent videos thanks.
You should always be repeating tests between all conductors, but if someone was to test IR at the new board without knowing the din rails are on a communal earth bar in the other box any power circuit would throw up a dud reading because of the lighting circuits. Unless you're linking neutral and live to test against CPC.
Basically any future EICR will have to be carried out from the box regardless because of the hybrid circuits anyway, as feeding a 32 Amp radial off a ring is fine but feeding a ring final circuit off a radial can be a sod.
Thanks for the reply. So if there was a multi gang switch with upstairs and downstairs lighting circuits that would throw a dud as well? Suppose you could not interconnect the earths. Never thought about it before.I understand ring mains are different. It’s just I see it a lot where they disconnect line neutral and cpc from the d.b. and do an I.r. To me your not testing to earth, just to the cpc in the cable of that circuit. The dentists rooms commonly have a 32 amp rcbo then a 6mm feed to a double pole local isolator then a 2.5mm ring main. Nothing wrong with it.
Yous eating again 😂😂, excellent job with the boxes, very neat and yeah if you ain’t doing DIN rail you can be caught out by that earth block, like you say everyday is a school day! I see no issue of running that intermediate in 4mm but I’m not a domestic man, so I’d happily take advice from others, I like the fact you used 20mm stuffers on the metal box, good job lads well done....... did you find the keys??? 😂
11:00 - nothing wrong with bigger single cable to a ring. Isn’t it called a lollipop 🍭 circuit?
I’m sure 4mm is fine but I’m trunking I don’t think it’s rated at 32amps
Back in the day we called it a hybrid ring
Great video but this time the ads were really intrusive. WTF are RUclips doing. At 10 minutes in I had 5 advert breaks and every single one had the same bleeding advert. As for the din rail, I used to use loads of it when building switch gear and large battery backup systems in a previous job. That was over 20 years ago and was amazed to see exactly the same blocks in use. Looking forward to see what wago have done as the alternative.
Yes, they with screws are old. Newer one are click'n'pick but same design. They have different small/big products for ampere and cable size.
@@OldLordSpeedy thanks for the info. I’ve been working in IT rather than electrics for a long time but it still interests me. I suppose.a good design just evolves rather than being superseded
@@Distinctly.Average Ha ha ha I start exactly opposite. I start my job-life as IT-computer specialist and change later to an electrician too. No computers works without electricity powers. So I can understand some things with kind "looking over the dish". 🤗

I still find it odd that CP FuseBox do DP single module type A rcbo's yet Hager doesn't yet, for that reason along I would of considered a double stack FuseBox over the Hager but each to their own.
Or Lewden, Wylex...
I've just put this fusebox for the win
Agreed fusebox also cheaper
@PETER WILSON hopefully comes with version 3
I thought the miniature Hagar RCBOs were double pole?
Or are those AFD?
They’re only single pole, the neutral remains connected.
Gd install, only thing is the trunking lid should have been installed b4 the metal joint box went up, just looks 💩 seeing the trunking lip.
According to new regs, can you still use a plastic box for the din rail connectors?
👏👏👏👏😎
Does anyone know why RUclips electricians never seem to use singles between a moved new board and the DIN terminals? Always seems to me like it would be easier than T&E when it's been trunked right through.
I think UK regs don't allow singles inside trunking because it can be easily open and leave the cable exposed with only one layer of insulation. UK regs are very insistent on always having two layers of insulation at all times, hence the use of "twin and earth" cables which are double insulated.
No house was ruined in the making of this video !!!

Nothing wrong with taking a single cable up on the ring circuits, but I'd use 6mm.
Why would you use 6mm?
@@shaynemacdonald3051 Charge more for it?
@@shaynemacdonald3051 Maybe because CPC on 4mm is still only 1.5? So long as Zs is acceptable it's not really an issue.
Call me old skool but I asociate 32A with 6mm although i agree 4mm would be fine in this case plus that's what I'd have in the van :-)
@@shaynemacdonald3051 4mm twin is actually only rated at 30a when installed in trunking (ref method B)
Great videos but way way too many adverts on this one 😞
Air tag on your keys and use your phone to find them.
If that was Cory he would have made good the blown brick on the doorbell 😃
16:16 This DIN-Rail parts are old. In the history all electrician bond all saved earth (green/yellow cable) together at one point into the house in the earth. So they bond all green/yellow over the metal together.
In our modern world with RCD/RCBO/aso. we use the saved earth big differently as before. So the companies should sell products with yellow/green colour but not metal bonding to the DIN-Rail. Possible some british firms could produce this product?
Funny that other electrician have make same wrong mistake before. 🤗🤣 Yes, no names ...
10:50 In Uk you seem to be allowed a 32A breaker on 4mm² ... In some country s in europe nope .. 4mm = 25A here in Belgium . 6mm² 32/(40 A ) 10mm² 63A . (max )
We have a double standard for 32 Amp circuits though. Traditionally UK power circuits as a radial will be done in 4mm because it's unlikely to ever be at max load. However an Electric Shower, Oven or Hob would be run in 6mm. Then 40 A would be 10mm and 63 A would be 16mm. Just British things.
Edit: You can run a EV point in 4mm 32A because of the type of cable even though it may be operating close to max load for the entire time it's on.
Finland is kinda 6mm2 = 25A and 10mm2 = 35A
@@justme5384 woow even more on the safe side then here in Belgium ... funny
What about length of circuit? Voltage drop is a bugger.
I would not trust that .. 4mm with 32A braker and fully loaded .
so, in the thumbnail it looks like the arrow should point right instead of left :-)
It's pointing to the new epic board.
Logic to do the ring on 4 mm is not a problem and I will do the same BUT on the new fuse dB you are not able to to end to end so for a future find finder you don’t make easy like for electrician
Reg a dinn rail need to be instructional because a screw is not foreword so YOU ARE OK
but on wego because can be under a accessible place ( wall plaster board ex ) YOU CANNOT DO IT
Why brother with 3 decades old door bell. Wireless cctv Motion doorbell to mobile is the way
@@nickhickson8738 you can turn off when want on phone
lol 4mm is not 32A
Let me consolidate these two boxes into two boxes.
Is that John Travolta?
4mm on to a 2.5 ring no problem called a hybrid circuit nothing wring with that
or a 'lollipop' ring. Sometimes find them where an old 6mm cooker circuit has been used to create a kitchen ring
does mean testing not all can be done in the board, need to test ring at joint
@@Satters Yes, you'd have to test at a ring point because you still need to confirm during any testing that the ring is indeed intact. Preferably from a testing and fault finding stand stand point you would feed a radial from a ring rather than the other way round. The situation in the video though is one of the most ideal circumstances to do it the other way round though.
