hi guys I was doing some work in a takeaway and i came across a LED light that has a switch on the light and it turn of itself the customer wants to put a different light with a physical switch. I would really appreciate some help here
Hi All, I would just like to comment on how lucky Ruben is to have John as his mentor, i am working my through your videos and have picked up lots of very handy tips from John and i love your guys attention to detail and watching the pride you guys take in your work!! I wanted to be an electrician but couldn't find anybody that was willing to take on a slightly mature apprentice so its great to see Ruben' s learning path and John's teaching method Thank you for the videos and what a great team of guys you are.
I love these videos for electrical tips; I'm an industrial electrical engineer so don't typically do domestic or know a huge amount about methods used, so I find the little shortcut tips/tricks/guides you have fantastic. Have you consider doing tutorials/tip videos/shorts and organising into a playlist and categorising? (I mean not mixed into a larger video but separated)
Greetings from Midland, Texas I'm a industrial journeyman electrician in the oil field although I did get 2 years experience in residential and one thing I don't miss is always being the rat attic I'm a small dude and was always picked to fish and find cables and runs, the insulation sucks really bad it's cool to see how you guys do things in the U.K. peace wealth and health from one spark to another
Little point , the socket Reuben had next to the spur, I would of recommended replacing the flex feeding the spur as it looked smaller then 2.5mm and is protected by the 32a mcb/rcbo and also grommets missing !!! Other then that great video as always guys. Some interesting angles and good to see some real time action
Cable size not really a worry as you can apply 433.3 given the FCU is right next to the socket. The bigger issue is no outer sheath on the line conductor back from the FCU.
I must admit l had observe the same issues, also l am assuming that the three core flex was being fed off the switched fused spur. If this is the case it would mean that the flex neutral is not being switched by the spur.
Well done! No clickbait No funky thumbnail just a clear title which reflects the content and a nice normal image. Well done! I support this way Honestly I was waiting for your next video in order to decide if I will unsubscribe unfollow the channel or not Be simple, be normal, even if it might look like it’s boring, it’s not, for the long term these are the channels which grow organically Another unsolicited advice 😃 if I may, please LET GO of the emphasis on how bad is someone else’s work. With a little bit of humility we might discover that there someone else who does a better job than we do, and they could say the same about your work in 5-10-20years from now. With a little bit of humility we discover we know nothing about the circumstances of the previous work on that house. It is arrogance which criticises and points fingers etc It’s ok to say that a certain job is not according to the regs (as a fact, that is the truth) but it’s not ok when we use dramatic language to trash the previous electrician when we know absolutely nothing about his context. Jordan I really hope you are reading these comments, I’ve put a lot of time in them in the last few weeks when the clickbait drama almost took over your channel
@@artisanelectrics never mind, you earn your money from doing the job. any income from the videos is an added bonus. Surely the entertainment and keeping loyal viewers happy is more important than views and money?
@@TheRCBikerit’s a business, of course money is more important than just making some random strangers on the internet happy. Why would they do this for free? Filming takes time, and they seem to have a few behind camera people to pay as well. Also, I bet they get a lot of business thanks to RUclips, so would want it to grow as much as possible.
@@artisanelectrics to be fair you’ve annoyed most of your viewers with click bait crap for months, the funny thumbnails are fine but keep click bait away! Stay like this the viewers will come back.

I think those lights are designed for US electrical. We are required to have boxes in the wall for terminations. So all the wires remain in the box except for the 2 to 3 running out to the fixture. This also provides a mounting for the bracket that the light fixture attaches to. However we still have individuals who like to do their own lights and install them smack dab in the drywall (not electrically rated for fires). We are also required to have all junctions accessible usually buy a blank plate, fixture, outlet or switch... however DIYers/ "handyman" tend to bury them in the wall making finding fault a pain in the butt requiring cutting walls open.
Just a tip for that photocell on the back of the annex. I would install little Wiska adaptable box where that flex is going into the wall. With current setup you are allowing water to travel down the flex and into the wall. I have fitted some Philips hue outside lights to my house. There is no need for them to be on dusk switch cause this can be automated with the app. There is settings to come on at dawn and minutes before of after etc. Big up.
On that socket reuben looked at, it had no grommets through to the fused spur and also single insulated cables through to the fused spur and he done nothing about it....
Points for holding up your hands if make a small mistake. That more than anything else promotes confidence in people who take pride in their work. Shame you guys don't do Kettering (Northamptonshire) for a CU change - I must move nearer Cambridge :P
heres a tip, stick in at school and become a solicitor, £500 an hour! with no need to go under floors/in triple insulated lofts, or hallway cupboards where the fuseboard is, with every item the tenant owns!
Phillips Hue expensive but have to say their power quality metrics such as power factors, efficiency, no backfeed transients really good. Not say you don’t get the odd dud here or there.
Who edits Reuben’s cam 😂 dodgy switch (Intermediate being used as a 2way) and that socket with the single brown passing through the bare metal back box
You’ve got to match the strappers in a 2 way switch (L1/L2) the same as the other 2 way switch the other end. Otherwise when one switch is in a certain position the other won’t work.
For the Hue outdoor lights, would have just used the sunset / sunrise and timer features built into the app. If you needed motion, the outdoor hue sensors work well too and last ages. I guess it’s a little more faff for the customer if they aren’t too tech savvy, but going off some of the gadgets they have, should be a doddle for them.
@@eric35red personally I use the iConnectHue app. Makes configuring timers a doddle. As mentioned, being able to use the dynamic sunset/sunrise times is very useful, you can even apply offsets to them, for example bring outdoor lights on 30mins before sunset.
@@SprinterOnline how do they connect to the app, is it Wi-Fi? Got my drive gate 50 mtrs away on a 2 way switch at the moment. Wi-Fi all the way down the garden so thinking it would allow me to put some on off times and control it from the phone rather than the switches

Atleast 8000
Surprised you use MK. They always used to be my goto before Honeywell took the brand, now I find so many units DOA I avoid where possible

doesn't necessarily matter what colour does what but they have to match terminals in both switches. or am i wrong 😆
Strappers the same at each Switch. 👍
Helps if he uses a 2way not an intermediate switch 😅

great video Luke
Did you put grommets in that socket you changed reuben?
Mike Weston Plastering(a YT channel) looks like the plasterer version of Jordan! Twins!
Correct that? you don't need a grommet on a plastic enclosure with a class 2 cable. Belt and braces invert a compression gland then lol
Can you recommend an External PIR sensor that actually works pleas.
For the light Ruben fitted. Looks to me like a plastic fitting and double insulated cable. No actual need for a grommet.
Really enjoying your content, thank you for that! Do you add SPD to all new consumer units you fit? Also what method of fireproofing do you use?
Didn’t see a lock out kit before u started working on the board 👀👀👀

8/10 for glasses if they were chamoleony then 10/10
How can you have all four corners on a circle?

Yeah either JCC or BELL both cost a fair bit more then then eBay/Amazon specials but more than worth it.
