      @droptableaccount1820 Год назад +1

      @@buckfuttler2877 I have to agree with the both of you. The songwriter is undeniably pozzed in their political opinions but their musical talent more than outweighs that. Even the most outwardly political song, Little Snakes, does make solid points despite its lack of subtlety. Some of the lyrics are leftist cringe but just as many are incredible, such as this song's portrayal of the impact of photography on the universal consciousness.

  • @andrewrobertson179

    MORE PTH!!! Always happy to watch you react to them! The story behind this album is about American history (Palimpsest - something reused or altered but still bearing visible traces of its earlier form) and how we tend to rewrite things in a better light than true history would show. This specific song was about the Hindenburg disaster and how everybody tends to forget it was born out of Nazi Germany, with an excerpt of the lyrics pointing out the famous photograph; “Fireball and tower
    Conceal the swastika
    Which might have served to sour
    Our desired erotica”
    Once again, great reaction!

    That thing you mentioned about albums generally having a story behind them is very true with this record. My understanding is that it’s a concept record focused around all the highs and lows as well as just some interesting stories of American history. The title of the record “Palimpsest” is defined as a piece of paper or parchment that has been written on many times. So the whole album is about how America is a place that has been made and remade constantly and that it can continue to be improved despite what came before. At least that’s my understanding of it.

    This album blew me away when it came out in 2019 having been a fan of Kezia and Fortress but not listening to the band for a little while. I seem to recall the concept being around the greatness of the USA told via the tragedies and triumphs of ordinary people rather than what the 'elite' consider to be the reasons for its greatness. Songs cover topics ranging from Amelia Earhart to the Boston molasses flood. Very apposite for its time. Turns out a bunch of Canadian metallers understand the US better than many of its own citizens. IMO of course...

    Uncle Geebz, do more protest please!
    A little background on their records as I'm a long time fan. Kezia was their first LP. They wrote and recorded while still in high school. It is a concept record with elements of Dostoevski and punk and its still one of my favorites.
    Fortress was next with the track Bloodmeat that you heard. A lot more production value and more "metal" elements. Scurrilous came third with Rody, the lead singer taking over the primary lyric writing duties. With Volition, they parted ways with their record label and funded the album with a kickstarter campaign that became quite successful. Their original drummer Moe left the band so they brought in Chris Adler of Lamb of God fame to record. Next up was their ep Pacific myth where they adopted something of a subscription model where they released one song a month with subscriber feedback to guide the writing throughout. Finally is Palimpsest which this song is off of. This record is significant in an added way because Rody blew his vocals out a few years ago and had to delay the record for rehab and such.
    Anyway, love the channel. Hope this guides your journey a little. My vote goes for something off of Kezia like blindfolds aside or heretics and killers.

    Something I think is worth knowing is that Rody Walker, the singer, had to re-teach himself to sing almost entirely from scratch to record for this album after he blew his voice out REALLY bad in 2018. The lyrics were already written so they matched his older style of singing, but he didn't want to mess up all that effort and made it work anyway.

    I’ve always loved these guys. Along with Scary kids scaring kids. Doing shows in festivals along with them.

    Nice track! Know them, but had missed this song. Usual recommendations: Fair to Midland - "Amarillo Sleeps On My Pillow", Jack the Joker - "Brutal Behavior", One Hundred Thousand - "Gemini" and Bigelf - "The Evils of Rock & Roll" All very unique, so you'll enjoy!

    One PTO track I think you really need to check out is "Palms Read". Or even "Sequoia Throne", both are amazingly well built tracks.

    I discovered Protest back in 2006 at a warped tour. They’re still to this day one of the most unique and powerful bands for me. Been hooked ever since. Just incredible. Also got to see them live at a small show in Seattle back in 2011. Like 200 people. So good. Glad you’re checking them out!

    hey! I hope you see this in time, you should totally do another Protest the Hero track for your 30 days programming. I'd suggest either C'est la Vie or Plato's Tripartite. Both songs have incredible arrangements I think you'd totally love.

    Hey Geebz! I know you try to be a beacon for positive energy and influencing the world around you in a good way. Injustice by Desertion has some amazingly hard breakdowns with great sound design. I know you don’t necessarily dissect the lyrics but this band is a great positive force that’s starting to come online. Have a great weekend Geebz!

    Protest The Hero's sound engineering and musicianship is phenomenal. My least favorite album by them is Scurrilous, and that one is still pretty good

      Everyone hates scurrilous but that's my second favorite album

    • @CrazybassistGaming
      @CrazybassistGaming 2 года назад

      @@sleepymetalhead7536 I don't hate that album. I loved it at first, but it wore out faster than the others for me. Every other album felt like I heard some new notes in the mix every time I listened. Scurrilous just didn't do that as much for me, but there are some great songs on that album

    • @sleepymetalhead7536

      @@CrazybassistGaming that's understandable it's all good either way :) I'm just glad to be seeing a protest reaction

      @Someguy136 I still really enjoy Scurrilous. Just not as much. I have to respectfully disagree. Palimpsest has a ton of great tracks. Not every track is amazing, but the album just feels super full. Then again, I get super obsessed with every album when it comes out. I'll just have to see how this one ages with me

    You should definitely react to more songs off their Palimpsest album! There's a lot of orchestration work added in to the songs. I think you'd really enjoy it

  • @CassandraForAGlobalTroy

    Super late here, but I think you make a really good point about the ways in which the use of half-time drums that always hit the square beat allow the forward momentum of the song to remain even while the guitar and bass may be layering in rhythms that aren't aligned with that square beat.
