I never knew you could get the MC9 with 8V71 in 84. I always thought most MC9s from 82 and up were 6v92. But I know the 6v71 was available throught the 80s into early 90s on transit buses.

The 8V71 was still available on the MC9, later to be replaced with the 8V92 but alot of companies went with the 6 cylinder version. Surprisingly manual transmission were still offered on MCI and Prevost buses in the 80's and early 90's. Canadian National Railways used to run a bus service across the province Of Newfoundland, to replace passenger rail service, from 1968 up to 1996. CN's first buses were Prevost's which were all automatic and had the 8V71 but later purchases of the MCI 8 and MC9 all came with 4 or 5 speed manual transmissions complete with the 8v71 motor. CN's last two buses purchased were 1990 MCI 102C3's which had the 5 speed manual teamed up with the 8V92 motor. The manual teamed up with a Detroit 8 cylinder made a great sounding motor.
