MONOCHROMATIC PAINT TECHNIQUE with new Fusion colour HAZELWOOD! Mid Century Style Dresser Flip

  • I thought I'd try something a bit different with these two damaged laminate dressers. The tops of both were water damaged and had many, many raised areas to deal with. I recently bought a jar of Fusion Mineral Paint's new colour Hazelwood, a warm medium grey, and instead of doing something "typical" for me, I opted to try out a monochromatic look using only that colour... painting the top and sides, and doing a wash on the drawers. I've done it before with whites and off-whites but nothing darker, so it's definitely a bit of an experiment!

I bag on these laminate pieces all the time “ New from Montgomery Ward’s ( in 1974 ! ) the Crapola Collection from the Fauxwood line! “ or something like that. But you’re right, they have stood the test of time. And they have at least three things going for them. 1. They’re usually cheap, making for a better margin 2. No one is going to call them antiques and bag on you for painting them and 3. In keeping them out out of the landfill they won’t get ground up for compost and poison someone’s tomatoes. In addition they usually turn out well ( yours did ) so it’s a winning proposition all around.

You have had my admiration for 1.5 years now and I'm hooked for life. I had a shop many years ago Pat's Refinishing Of Old Furniture "PROOF" is in the workmanship. I'm 78 now but you tease me into thinking about another round of hard work and JOY. I appreciate your purpose of finding a second life for any type of furniture. Laminate is fine if its isn't horribly damaged. Fact is that not all of us can afford solid wood furniture, so laminate is a staple. Keeping the plastic/chemicals out of the environment is a noble task. Dont pay too much attention to those negative commenters. Let them find the solid wood pieces and refinish them to the quality that you do. Your work is beautiful and your videos educate us "poor" folk that can't afford new furniture but can afford refinishing pieces. Thank you for your work.

You're right that this is not my cup of tea but it does look a million times better, great job. And it is nice to change things up and try something different

Looks super trendy. Here in the US this is exactly the color and style people like. Came out amazing as usual.

Wow! Gorgeous…..who’d have thought you could take those really homely pieces and turn them into beautiful, updated works of art? Ha, ha….well you did obviously! Your choices are always classy and the end result something I’d be proud to have in my home. Must make you feel good to give these potential landfill pieces another life. After just finding your channel, I’m hooked. Love watching, great work! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

Wow, I love it! This color on my monitor looks very taupe. So versatile in any home but completely modernized. I believe you totally saved some real treasures from the landfill.
