Dear Bass Souls out there, Just had fun with the next Iron Maiden Song, hope you'll enjoy! Please be patient with me in the next few weeks, I am actually preparing myself to move to a new apartment, so I'll have less time to practise. Guess I'll post the next song beginning of february. Keep on playing guys!
I’ve been playing bass for a little over 2 years now, about a year ago I foolishly tried to learn this one. I’ve been playing most maiden galloping parts with 3 fingers for a while but I recently got back into the 2 finger gallop and it’s surprisingly been a lot easier than it was back then.
hey i absolutely LOVE your videos, ive been practicing nikita and sultans of swing based on the videos you posted! i love all the content and diversity of musix you do! i was wondering if you take music suggestions? i would love to see you do a cover of "river of dreams" by billy joel. if you dont take suggestions, i still love the content and will watch whatever you upload!!!
Hi Benjamin, thanks for your comment! At a certain stage I'll take requests, until now I only did post songs I always wanted to play. Will still take a while. But after that period...why not? :)
Leo, thanks for your comment. Very true, there are plenty of very good channels out there regarding bass covers as well as very good teachers, cover solution is one of those. Check out Talking Bass, Federico Malaman, Scott's Bass Lessons, Bazz Buzz...there are so many! I don't believe it does make sense to judge any of them, talking about competition and who might be the best. Just sub all of them sit down, practice and have fun.
Hi sonny, thanks for your Feedback. Guess that a lot of bass players are going for three finger picking for this song, i never practised this technique but obvisously did a lot of practising for two fingers :) if you would play the gallop for 5 minutes per day, you'll be there very soon!
I'm a beginner bassist and I can play the tabs correctly but after playing this song my Right hand was missing my middle and index finger😂 I need to practice my finger speed and muscles more. Thanks for the tabs though! And awesome playing man!
i can understand your reply ( in another post , why does there always has to be that one armature giving an expert advice) any way.. about the index-middle-index,, middle-index-middle to get that gallop and conserve, great tip, but man I have a long way to go, and to think I almost had the trooper up to speed, thanks
No worries. I am still playing for almost a year now. Going to take some music theory and moving forward. It is motivational! I was only joking... but I still can't play this song yet.
I'm not an expert but your Harris gallop in the chorus sounds kinda mushy... I can't make it out clearly but it seems you're just randomly picking with both fingers trying to get the notes somehow. What I've heard (and what I've been taught on drums) is that it's best to use a repeating pattern which sticks to the timing of the rythm so every on beat with one and every of beat with the other finger. In this case would be index index middle index index middle and so on. But the rest was pretty on point gotta say! And i'm sorry if I misheard or seen the first detail wrong.
Hi Kay, thanks for your feedback! Just have to disagree to your statement that I am doing some random picking with the right hand. As I do believe that the system you did describe with starting always with the same finger is some kind of waste of motion (don't get me wrong, whatever one is more comfortable with, can be done...and surely if you run it this way, it sounds always the same in terms of picking), I am doing the alternating of the two fingers all the time. Means, starting with middle/index-middle next index/middle-index finger. I guess it's some kind of philosophy in behind. I did practise quite a lot to be able to do the alternating stuff, to make sure that sound from picking is even on both starting with middle or index. For me, it was the best choice. Which doesn't mean that I can't do it different, both works out but I prefer the alternating. Maybe you have another look or you could go for another Maiden video that I posted, the Trooper of Can I Play With Madness. This songs are not at this crazy speed of 180 but at 150 so it's more easy to identify. Anyway...thank you very much for your feedack!
@@basssoul6874 I don't really think that it's a matter of philosophy behind alternating the fingers or rythm based. I think there is a reason that the latter method is the one drummers use in general. I know it's a difficult transition but I'd highly recommend you to try switching to this technique. You get a lot more structure in your play and that's definitely hearable. I mean rudiments like a paradiddle would't make sense at all if you'd just alternate between hands, and there is a reason that really every drummer knows and (hopefully) practices them regularly e.g. As warm ups.
@Kay Thanks for your explanation, it's a good point comparing this technique to techniques been used on drums. I gave it a another go and surely as been mentioned before, I am capable of playing it both ways, talking about the technique in general. For a speed of 176 as been present on Run To The Hills, I'd have to practise these technique on speed for a while to be more comfortable with. Maybe I'll run it this way for the next videos, as soon as a gallop will be present. Thanks man!
Hello, what a good cover did you get, I also got a song from dua DUA LIPA hope you like it and the channel has many more covers and I hope you join the channel, there are many bands, friend, thank ...
steve harris is just about the only person to kill out an epic guitar solo with a snazzy little solo on the bass
Hit like because u said snazzy 😂
As someone who is trying to learn to play at this speed, I can see I have work left to do.
Great job covering that!!
Thanks Joe! Carry on!

That gallop feel we so often hear in Maiden. I always thought he plucked that with three fingers but learned later that he just uses two.
Thats true. And doesn't alternate the fingers.
played bass for a couple years now and i just dont get how you can get those fingers to go that quick. holy hell i got a cramp just watching.

The cleanest plunk among all YouTu covers of this song, I can hear every single note! Can I ask if you use 3 fingers or 2 fingers?
Hi Darren,
I play with 2 fingers, alternating.
Thanks for your Feedback!

Thank you. I finally found a good place to give up bass.

no, please don't give up! I thought it would motivate to post that kind of songs! :)
