  • The MK4 Focus ST makes it's way back to us with more power, any good?

    It's no suprise that we love the MK4 Focus ST over here at Just The Driven, we recently reviewed the stock car ( • Driving the MK4 Ford F... ) - and we really enjoyed the overhaul of the Focus ST.
    But what happens when you take that great base package which the MK4 offers, and inject it with a little bit of DreamScience special sauce? Well, 330bhp for one... and a very lively, torquey car for another.

    Thank you for video. I have many questions)). Can I use it on automatic version?
    Does the device connect wirelessly..also what do you think about rival by US-startune. Also can I use it to adjust dampers to keep it soft on sports mode? Why you doesn’t have the digital dashboard? Do I need in any case to visit a mechanic for the tuner or everything is done by the device?

    how does the improvement 20-80 mph compare to a golf-r or audi s3? just curious

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  3 года назад

      I'm not entirely sure as 30-70 and 20-80 isn't usually recorded. I did a 9.5 0-100 in my Golf R before that was Stage 1, however stock I assume to be similar

    Hello from Germany, does the device always have to be connected to OBD? or can I remove it after programming? have you tried performance+ I want to keep my hardware original Thank you, Dennis

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  3 года назад

      The device can be removed after programming, it only needs to be plugged in if you're logging data, or making changes, otherwise it can live in the house 😁

    • @JustTheDriven

      I haven't tried Performance+ however an increase on the stock power, even to 300ps is going to be noticeable

    Do you recommend the Golf R or ST? Thanks

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  3 года назад +1

      It depends on what your requirements are really. If you're looking for a fun car to drive, then the Focus ST, if you're purely looking for performance and nothing else, then choose the Golf R.
      Golf R is a great car with some astonishing performance out of the box, nevermind when tuned. However the Focus ST is more fun to drive.

    Hey, I have 2020 st cant see the point for half second ? Does it improve fuel economy ? Only getting 24 mpg at moment as I drive it like a twat

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  3 года назад +1

      It's much faster than you can imagine really, the Dragy was used to give an indicative result that's all. It won't improve fuel economy if you drive fast most of the time. But the increase in power is addictive!

    Great Video, unfortunately I can't do this as my mk4 is on options with Ford so smacks the warranty. Interestingly you say that the handset allows you to remove the maps does it then store the Ford Default to reload so in effect they wouldn't know you did it? Not asking you to admit anything of course ;-) but you can read between the lines what I maybe implying :-)..finally just one last point you had a new I/Cooler fitted, is the dreamscience ult+ still mapped to 330hp with the stock cooler and did you need to replace the Airflow filter like mountune's equivalent map package?

    • @JustTheDriven
      @JustTheDriven  3 года назад

      Thank you 👍 appreciate it. Hypothetically speaking (and this definitely didn't happen... wink...) If you had to take your car in to Ford for any warranty work doing, servicing, MOT etc etc. You can remove the map file and it doesn't leave a trace. I know a few who have done it with no problems at all.
      The intercooler is simply there to keep the power consistent, a stock intercooler will still make the same power comfortably, however the intercooler helps keep things cool so that power is more consistent, more of the time. For example if you took two identical cars, one with an upgraded intercooler and one without and put them both on a dyno, the car with the intercooler will perform more consistently (not necessarily better) than the one without. You'll find the car will suffer slightly more in hot weather due to heat soak, and that's what the cooler prevents.

      Mountune do a 330bhp map for the mk4 ST and they usually come without voiding warranty. Might be worth looking into.

    I know its awesome to be abled to get that much more for so few money, i'd really think twice about it though. Chiped my focus mk 2 aswell +100 Nm of torque will fuck your clutch, flyewheel, bearings, axles.... Flywheel and clutch in my case 3000€ thrown out the window, if you plan to drive your car for a longer time you either tune it properly or not at all imo. My mk4 st will stay stock, same goes for stupid shit like lowering your car.. Just dont do it, your wheelbearings will hate you and your handling doesnt get better even if your telling everyone XD.

    ford knows you mapped your car , the ecu records the number of times it has been written into , and they can compare to the number of times its been to the dealer so you are fucked if something happens , stop telling people that . i have a friend in ford romania that works for the service department and he said if they are arsed enough they will void your warranty and you pay for any damage that happens to the car

      I know first hand that it either isn't being picked up on, or isn't being noticed, there's always a risk that something may happen and a lot of owners who decide to tune their car take the risk
