"Break test"? ;)
That brake test the mk3 driver was sleeping 😴.
Propably :D
I think that's why they labelled it as the "Break test", mk3 driver was on his *Break* lol
I've had 2 MK2s, 2 MK3s (one being diesel :-( sadly ) and now a MK4. MK4 is easily the best so far. First one in ages where Ford have concentrated with the emphasis on performance rather than making sacrifices to add cosmetics. Race mode is savage and brilliant, the brakes finally don't melt after ten miles of B roads and Sync actually seems to work now 👍
Ugly, are you kidding me. Best looking ST so far, and I have owned the 5 pot, the Mk3 and now the mk4.
@@kwesto03 bro a clean panther black or white 225st is miles the best looking.
Mk 2 with that 2.5 volvo engine what a sound that car had
Still has. I own one and doubt I'll ever sell it.
Good work lads !
The mk4 may have won the tests but the mk3 is better looking in my opinion.
I agree, I loved the 8 exhaust pipe on the mk3.
Mk4 has 30hp more so it will be strange if Mk4 would be second :). That difference is not that huge in real life usage so I prefer my Mk3 STAGE 1 :)
mk4 stage 1
100k less weight does a lot would be a bit more 276 bhp and 1439 kilo
Great video, wasnt sure what focus st to get but now I am getting the mk4 👍🏻
Very nice side to side comparison and a cool video! I used to drive an MK3 Titanium (station), and now driving an MK4 Titanium (hatchback). I have found the MK3 the better one when it comes to cornering. It was always like riding on rails - unbelievably stable, especially in long turns. The steering handling of the MK4 is not bad at all, but the suspension seems less stiff and in long turns a little more nervous. I also notice that when driving over speed bumps. The MK4 tends to hit the front spoiler quite fast, even at slow speeds. Is it just me? What do you think? Does the switch station/hatchback makes the difference, or the MK3/MK4 in general?
Everyone knows that MK2 2.5 along with RS is the best, they just lacking AWD
Just bought one love it
did u test 100-200km both?
Great comparison, hope the mk4 come to Mexico, greetings. 👌🏻
I own a mk4estate I’m just amazed how the chassis is in track mode thing just go’s where you want it to go no understeer kinda like the loose rear end helps turning the car but to be honest its underpowered I’m gonna get it to 360 that would make it a little bit more 🌶 mst intake mountune ic2 and m330 tune including the Remus exhaust and updated plugs and coils kw v3 suspension and done
I have a Mk3, had a Mk2, tried Fiesta St. They are all great cars. Really appreciate Ford providing something more passionate than boring VWs. I am a JDM guy. But only Ford changed my mind.
Not as much as I thought between them🤔
How will a mk3 with a basic remap and a LSD compare I wonder 🤔🤔🤔
should have done this with a MK3.5 vs mk4
Wouldn't have made a difference mate.
literally the same thjng
@@Brandon-xe2se nah the 3.5 headlights add like 5-10hp
Just found this vid, ive had a St 2016 diesel, Fiesta St ,Puma St and now the best of all Mk4 St fully loaded and its amazing ,best car ive owned. Bob (Selsey)
Same Tires ? Same Breaktime?
Both cars completely stock?
Both 100% stock 👌
2016 is what I own...granted Im far from stock (big turbo, E40, etc)... but the mk3.5 i think looked a lot better..with a Maxton rear valance and RS wing it cleans up nicely. The mk4 isnt too bad..would've been nice to have that set up in the earlier version for sure!
The MK2 is by far the best looking and sounding car.
Each to their own
Definitely the best generation.
Wonder what a st mountune 275 would be like against a standard mk4
What mods do you need for the mountune ?
Well I had a 3.5face lift ST remapped to 280Bhp, even with pilot sport 4 it’s hard to pull away. But once on the move it’s pretty fast , I think my 17plate remapped was faster than my mk4 is stock . But the mk4 handles way better . It’s a nicer car overall.
Im having issues with an Intermittent stiff clutch though .
mk4 st花費14.09sec 1 / 4mile? nice performance
Use launch Control on the mk4 which he didn't also yes it has 30more ponies but also weights more than the mk3 - I have owned the mk3 and now have a mk4 and I can you tell as a comparison the mk4 is way way better all round, performance, mpg, gizmos, comfort and it handles way better. You just cannot get the power down in the mk3 too much torque steer.
everything was relieblish till the brake test.... too much dependency on the tyres, also when thinking about it the "exit" from standstill , same issue.
the new focus has the same brakes like the new one 330 mm single floating piston... so it's down to reaction time and tyres., mainly tyres as even a cheap ass smal brakes can lock the wheel for one brake.
New one has 2 piston front calipers made by brembo
Ive been looking at the new car, but i currently have the mk3 mountune mp275. Cant help but think the extra hundred kilos will make the new car feel slower than mine. Even if it matches times in some respects it will only be due to flat shifting and the e-diff.
Phil porter I would keep yours there's little between them anyway.
Not much in it on the rolling race!......... better Diff and launch mode made a difference off the line for the mk4....is it worth almost £35000 though time you add the performance pack and colours etc??? ....you can buy a mint Civic type R fk8 or a focus RS mk3, BMW M140i or Golf R for around £25'000 or less now..... mk.3.5 had slightly improved brake rotors size as I have got a 2017 estate ST so brake test would of been closer.......Ford will need to drop the price to interest me in a upgrade tho for only 29bhp more...... Good vid 👍
Ryan Cole it‘s not only hp, but also the HUGE torque difference, between these 2 Focuses. Also it‘s normal, that the newer car (even though, it has less HP than for example the Focus RS) is more pricey. It‘s just a newer, better Car 👍
Yeah I'm sure it's a big improvement all round which you would expect in a newer model but it's £10'000 more than I paid for my ST Estate with style pack /19inch alloys when I ordered it new 2.5 years ago! Bearing in mind the estate is £1000 more again! So possibly £11000 more! Wish my salary had gone up by that 😂👍
Not sure where you have got the £35,000 from. I traded my MK3.5 for the MK4 at Christmas and the actual PCP was £20 month less than I paid for the 17 plate ST. That is with heads up display, performance pack and wireless charger. Invoice price for the MK4 was £26K.......And as for the performance, having owned the previous model for over 2 years there is no comparison, the MK4 is sooooo much quicker. In my opinion it rides better, has much more grip, sounds better and has more torque.
As for second hand cars, I would never touch any performance car second hand but each to their own, and to compare a brand new car to a second hand car is pointless, as for £25K depending on how old you go you can buy pretty much anything.
Went on the ford website chose 2.3l petrol, chose blue (extra £800), chose performance pack came out close to £35k new....not seen any for £26k unless apart from an ex demonstrator in which it kind of is second hand.....tell me where they are £26k NEW with performance pack in blue or black and I will be interested.... cheers 👍
@@ryancole6284 Ryan, not really sure what to say, and if you don't believe me then that's fine. All I can say is that I had a 17 plate ST ( MK3.5) which I was paying £320 a month with no deposit. Traded it in for a NEW ST MK4 in black with performance pack, heads up display and wireless charger for £300 per month. It is on a PCP and obviously the MK3 was handed back, so whatever profit was in the car helped. I am an enthusiast detailer and to say the car was immaculate was an understatement.
Just dug out the finance agreement and the actual cost on the invoice is £25,942. I had almost £2000 equity in the old car, and over £5000 in discounts.
I also negotiated 2 years free servicing due to my job.
I spent a few weeks playing dealers off against each other, starting from £350 per month with no extras to what I ended up with.
I did ask the dealer if I could promote them and the manager asked that I didn't mention them as the deal I got could not be repeated.
NO ONE should be paying over £30,000 for the ST and if they have then they have not tried hard enough.....
Wel you get what you pay for. Atm love my stage 1+ mk3 st.❤
Between both is 30 hp diffrent so what you gone expect about mk2 before the lift. 250 vs 280  and he lost just 1 s still is nice I think.
Surprisingly small difference
Not really......A full second over a quarter of a mile is a lot. CarWow has a Golf R 1/4 mile as 13.1 and the A45s at 12.1..........
@@stevemk4st649 different class of cars though, you can only really compare the ST to a GTI. Which the ST smashes anyway
1 second in 1/4 mile is almost 10 car lengths!!!
Still the Mk3 (facelift though). Far better looking car. Mine minces the Mk4 with 300bhp ;)
Theres not that much between them apart from better brakes, not alot at all.
Have owned both. Prefer the mk3 pre face lift. Much better ride quality, and more fun. Definitely slower, but more fun
Can I ask why you changed to the MK4 then, as for me the MK4 has a better ride quality ( in normal mode ), is quicker and is so much easier to get the power down, the MK3 just wheel spun everywhere and was not as confident inspiring as the Mk4 on a fast twisty B road.
@@stevemk4st649 There are many reasons why keeping a 5 year old car isn't viable. The mk4 in Normal mode does not have anywhere near the subtly of ride quality of the standard mk3 ST pre face lift. It's considerably faster alright.
@@mad4tar77 I will agree about the 5 years ownership. Before getting the MK3 in 2017 I had a Zafira VXR for 6 years which is the longest I have ever owned a car. I had the 3.5 so have no experience of the pre face lift, but for me I prefer the ride of the MK4.
@Rıck 17 have you owned both?
@Rıck 17 "best" ah yes, on the stopwatch or racetrack. Marketing talk. It's better than the competition which i test drive, i30n, megane RS, (didn't want a golf and type R doesn't have enough seats, however, over a bumpy road the mk4 cannot mop up bumps like a mk3 pre face lift could. The mk3 PFL suspension had incredible subtlety over bumps, whereas the mk4 doesn't have the same compliance, added to bigger wheels.
Like i say, preferred it to the competition (plus Ford did a great deal on trade in, offering exactly double what Renault offerred), it has many good points, which don't change that the ride quality of the mk3 PFL was significantly better.
Think the mk3.5 looks better though.
Not really a fair race with 30 ponies more and launch control
Lol stock cars, didn’t know they still had those with ST badges
Why are you screaming at me?
This is a old mark 3, I’m sure the motor has a lot of kilometres on it and the brakes are not fresh. Either way the differences are small and should favour the new model.
Not only that but I’m pretty sure the mk3.5 got bigger/better brakes
Jamie Fehr
The MK3 fronts are 2.5% smaller on the business end and 10% smaller on the rear which does less than 15% of total breaking. A more track type pad has eliminated fade on the track with the standard MK3 rotors/Calipers.
The brake test in this video really should come down to weight Vs traction, and since both models can more than lock up the brakes at this speed, should have favoured the lighter MK3.
Inferior tyres, used rotors and replacement pads, all effect the outcome.
@@geoffruse7922 The older car may have had a recent service, with new pads, brake fluid and fresh set of rubber..........but we are never to know.
Having owned a MK3.5 and now the MK4, which is still bedding in I would still say that the MK4 has stronger brakes, but how much is really hard to say.
Steve MK4 ST
If both cars are capable of locking the brakes at these low speeds, it comes down to the driver and the tyres,
I’m sure at higher speeds the mark 4 should be better, I’ll know soon as my mate is buying one.
Chi Sao wing tsun
My mates 2020 has a raspy sound and is louder, the MK3 is a sweet revving engine. Both cars are quite different and Ford has deliberately changed it up, so some things I like in both series and it probably depends on personal choices.
The best feature of the mk4 is the adjustable suspension but my only criticism is that Ford needs to allow full power in the comfort mode.
Nice..... but over-acted presentation.... be yourself...
The mk3 is really ugly, they step up their game with the mk4
Bad reviewer. Don’t quit your day job
Not really an improvement 👎
