Conan is a genius. To know just the right amount of time to let things get deep, and then just flip it into a joke on Sona. Brilliant. And I can listen to Jane tell stories all day long!!!
100%. That was going to be my comment but you've already said it better. His ability to go from what was obviously a very raw and difficult emotion for Jane to laughing about recreational marijuana within 30 seconds is such a talent. Made even more impressive that the root of the joke is about being a "bad" parent.
Side note: Notice how intently both Sona and Matt are focused and listening intently to their guests like Jane Fonda. Underneath all the nonsense, to me, this reveals a lot about what they're really all about and why they are there.
Does that include the story of her getting soldiers killed?!
@@startrekmaniac1701 She was actually trying to end the slaughter of soldiers & civilians, as were many Americans then, Jane spent more time in Vietnam than did Trump. Or you, I'm guessing, you'd have been too busy watching your namesake. Also, that was a century ago, she has apologized MANY times, move on. History has. Or are you still Nazi hunting? Or are you a fan of theirs?
@@unowen-nh9ov a century ago. Last time I checked a century was a 100 years. Ignorance is bliss huh? This is what happens when you do drugs and don’t finish high school.
I love Conan's comedic mind. But it is also cool to see serious Conan do an in-depth, serious interview. And big props to Team COCO for getting an absolute Hollywood ICON like Jane Fonda for the podcast!
Jane Fonda is such a brave wise women, she talks about deep issues and doesn’t shy away anytime - thank you for such passion for all of our humanity
She certainly felt very deeply about North Vietnam.
Getting such great responses from Jane Fonda, is not just experience and technique, but also humanity, and Conan didn't lose one bit of that through all his years in showbizz. 💓
Hearing about men's and women's issues isn't something I thought I wanted. But after watching, is something I now know I needed.
Beautifully said Malphite :)
As J.K. Rowling puts it, this is the most misogynist era in our lifetimes, you're indifferent to SCOTUS Roe v. Wade? Is it because they're not trying to criminalize your private parts?
Sona was listening carefully and then BOOM. Out of nowhere. She didn’t see that coming.
yeah I really felt bad for her, you can tell in this room there is this adoration for Jane. And then she just gets shot down in front of this icon, it's a tough one.
Jane still sharp as a tack.
Life lesson: starting a fitness craze in your 50's will really pay off in your 80's.
@desolatesurvivalgaming8412 Since she has a century of them, she's allowed.
Actually, she has had multiple surgeries due to '80's "lifestyle choices". Of course, she also had an eating disorder for years before that, so Jane, like the rest of us, is fortunate to still be here. esp. as recent cancer survivor.
Absolutely loving this interview. Conan really is a master at what he does; comedically, conversationally and just making people feel comfortable.
So happy to see and hear Jane Fonda. Her words about boys to men so right on.
Jane is a living legend and loved as an actress, humanitarians , climate activists.. Grace and Frankie! Yes
Yes, absolutely! Henry and Jane did the best they knew how to when it came to their children. I will forever love Henry’s films and interviews, watch them all the time. That is his gift of communication and strength to both Jane and Peter. Have a huge crush on him and love hearing his voice, laughter. Reminds me exactly of Jane. So glad and happy Jane had that experience with her father on Golden Pond. 💜
Wonderful to see how this respectfull interaction of people makes it possible for each one of them to open up, to be vulnerable, and put there heart and soul on the table...
What a beautiful interview/talk/quality time!
She should be in jail
I photographed her son Troy for Marie Claire/Japan and her brother Peter for Esquire/Japan. Great memories of both...
Did you photograph the soldiers she killed?
@@startrekmaniac1701 Change your meds, how many civilians, men, women & children did they slaughter in a foreign land a century ago? They weren't fighting Nazis.
@@unowen-nh9ov not enough, the Indians were not peaceful
Everyone should check out Close. Truly a fantastic film.
Everybody talking bout what a mastermind Conan is, it's Jane who is a lovely interviewee though. So open and giving
Jane is such an inspiring example whose values haven’t changed or dimmed with age. I especially admire how deeply she consistently explores what matters to her. Spits straight facts. Thank you Ms. Fonda.
Can you get her on the show again?
What a woman!
All these podcast....especially when there is a legend on need to be much much longer than 5 minutes

Hanoi Jane, the traitor.
@@benderthepirate, the troll.
Brilliant interviewer and gets it and Jane oh boy just such wisdom.
Message to Adam or Matt: This episode was so unexpected but so much fun and interesting to listen to. GO team coco you guys are killing it!
Btw, Close is a fantastic movie. Glad that Jane Fonda is giving it a shout out!
A friend and I almost went to see _Close_ , but didn't because she knew the plot would upset her.
I wish they'd mentioned Henry Fonda in Fort Apache. It's one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen.
I think I remember reading a quote from Peter Fonda where he said how that steeliness in his dad's performance in Fort Apache is actually what he was like in real life. It's one of my favorite Fonda films, too.
Was he ever bad? Watch him in screwball comedy The Lady Eve, you won't believe it's the same guy!
She is wonderful. Love her
We had that conversation with my dad, and he actually didn't hide it when he was raising us: that he is imperfect and trying his best, not knowing what that best is. He was quite strict but also lenient considering the strict christian sect we were in. Knowing that, at the time was extremely helpful. It was also a thing in our home that if anyone knew a better way to to do things that is what we are going to do. Rules could be challenged and parents needed to find a good reason for them, which i can say they most often did have. "Because i'm your parent, that's why" was not a thing.
Highly recommend new parents to use those principles: rules have to based on reason and you have to know how to explain that reason. If there is no reason, is it a good rule?
Thank you, coco.
Nice to hear an in depth conversation
2 of my favorite people. Wsh this were 3 hr interview. Such humanity and curiosity and intellect.
I'm loving this, it answers ALOT of my likes , political history, Hollywood history.... American history ❤️👍
LEGENDARY ⭐⭐💖⭐⭐
She is a murder and belongs in prison
everytime jane tells that story i get emotional
Jane Fonda is wonderful, and her father's body of work was also really wonderful. Listening to this series I keep thinking of the _Hanoi Jane_ smears and how much the political right just wrecked her reputation and attacked her, and in the end who was right? She was. And she's standing strong in her 80s. What an amazing person. Damn her critics.
Someone who works for the enemy and get soldiers killed isn’t wonderful
@@startrekmaniac1701 The entire Vietnam war was an elitist, colonialist mistake from the get-go; we should've just let Vietnam peaceably form their own communist government like the people who lived there wanted instead of interfering like a bunch of greedy, frightened idiots. Damn Richard Nixon, all the frothing anti-communists and the entire defense establishment before you damn Jane Fonda; the "domino theory of communism" was nothing more than made-up reasons for violent fools to be violent with the lives of others. There is no defending the Vietnam War. Bless the poor souls who were sent there or volunteered because they thought it was noble, but it never, ever was.

I remember when Jane Fonda took a stand against the Atlanta Braves tomahawk chop, by doing it palm down. It's a shame it continues today 😔 with the Chiefs.
Funny that Native Americans don't have a problem with the tomahawk chop.
She also got a couple of soldiers killed in Vietnam
@@startrekmaniac1701 she also posed in a picture with NVA at an anti-aircraft gun used to kill Americans, with a goofy smile on her face. Also called for the executions of American soldiers who were POWs.

I've been out in the field living for 27 years I know a lot of the ruins out in the Western United States I've been around to
Someone should write their dissertation on conan's methodology. Get a PhD in Comedy.
Funny 😁
Conan did you know Valentine’s Day is officially the least crowded day at the golf course of the entire year. There was one year where I got a golf cart with an all you can play pass on a course that had 218 hole courses, on Valentine’s Day and I played from dawn to dusk, without having to wait for another person the entire day, just hit my shot drive onto it. Hit a shot drive on I think I played between seven and eight full round of golf from dawn to dusk. That was one of my bucket list Dreams to play unlimited golf from dawn, till dusk, without having to wait for another person the entire day.
This. This. This. This explains so much of the emotional miscommunication between men and women.
Don’t typically hear Jane talk about her kids. Love her activism though. 💜
I've seen her interviewed with 1 daughter, very often kids don't like having celebrity parents because, as Fonda acknowledges, it takes time & attention away from them.
I did the best that I could-and still, my son estranged from me. He dislikes my values and who I am. 😢
I’m sorry about it. Why is that? If I may ask.
I would dislike her to she killed soldiers

Remember when America leaned more left wing? When the peoples money was invested in programs that actually helped all instead of the entitled few. We need another FDR not a Reagan.
Took a depression for that to happen, like Obama winning decades later, with 2 majorities, when"s last time that happened? This century EC keeps handing it to losers, Reagan & Trump both started off as Dems.

Hanoi Jane still around? Wow. It's a pity that so many of our young men who fought in Vietnam were unable to reach such an advanced age.
When I saw the guest was Jane Fonda, I thought this was going to be an obnoxiously preachy political podcast but it was a great listen and she was a great guest.

I love Jane, but after watching her documentary and reading up on her relationship with her Father, I think Jane suffers from Daddy issues.. ❤ I say that sympathetically.

You don't have any idea what you are talking about. Jane's mom killed herself when Jane was 13 and her dad was unable to talk about that traumatic incident with his kids. She's talking about her life long struggle of trying to connect with her emotionally unavailable father. He was a brilliant filmmaker but he couldn't communicate outside his films
