    Conan is a genius. To know just the right amount of time to let things get deep, and then just flip it into a joke on Sona. Brilliant. And I can listen to Jane tell stories all day long!!!

      100%. That was going to be my comment but you've already said it better. His ability to go from what was obviously a very raw and difficult emotion for Jane to laughing about recreational marijuana within 30 seconds is such a talent. Made even more impressive that the root of the joke is about being a "bad" parent.

      Side note: Notice how intently both Sona and Matt are focused and listening intently to their guests like Jane Fonda. Underneath all the nonsense, to me, this reveals a lot about what they're really all about and why they are there.

      @@startrekmaniac1701 She was actually trying to end the slaughter of soldiers & civilians, as were many Americans then, Jane spent more time in Vietnam than did Trump. Or you, I'm guessing, you'd have been too busy watching your namesake. Also, that was a century ago, she has apologized MANY times, move on. History has. Or are you still Nazi hunting? Or are you a fan of theirs?

      Actually, she has had multiple surgeries due to '80's "lifestyle choices". Of course, she also had an eating disorder for years before that, so Jane, like the rest of us, is fortunate to still be here. esp. as recent cancer survivor.

    Yes, absolutely! Henry and Jane did the best they knew how to when it came to their children. I will forever love Henry’s films and interviews, watch them all the time. That is his gift of communication and strength to both Jane and Peter. Have a huge crush on him and love hearing his voice, laughter. Reminds me exactly of Jane. So glad and happy Jane had that experience with her father on Golden Pond. 💜

    I wish they'd mentioned Henry Fonda in Fort Apache. It's one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen.

      I think I remember reading a quote from Peter Fonda where he said how that steeliness in his dad's performance in Fort Apache is actually what he was like in real life. It's one of my favorite Fonda films, too.

    We had that conversation with my dad, and he actually didn't hide it when he was raising us: that he is imperfect and trying his best, not knowing what that best is. He was quite strict but also lenient considering the strict christian sect we were in. Knowing that, at the time was extremely helpful. It was also a thing in our home that if anyone knew a better way to to do things that is what we are going to do. Rules could be challenged and parents needed to find a good reason for them, which i can say they most often did have. "Because i'm your parent, that's why" was not a thing.
    Highly recommend new parents to use those principles: rules have to based on reason and you have to know how to explain that reason. If there is no reason, is it a good rule?

    Jane Fonda is wonderful, and her father's body of work was also really wonderful. Listening to this series I keep thinking of the _Hanoi Jane_ smears and how much the political right just wrecked her reputation and attacked her, and in the end who was right? She was. And she's standing strong in her 80s. What an amazing person. Damn her critics.

Damn Richard Nixon, all the frothing anti-communists and the entire defense establishment before you damn Jane Fonda; the "domino theory of communism" was nothing more than made-up reasons for violent fools to be violent with the lives of others. There is no defending the Vietnam War. Bless the poor souls who were sent there or volunteered because they thought it was noble, but it never, ever was.

    I remember when Jane Fonda took a stand against the Atlanta Braves tomahawk chop, by doing it palm down. It's a shame it continues today 😔 with the Chiefs.

    Conan did you know Valentine’s Day is officially the least crowded day at the golf course of the entire year. There was one year where I got a golf cart with an all you can play pass on a course that had 218 hole courses, on Valentine’s Day and I played from dawn to dusk, without having to wait for another person the entire day, just hit my shot drive onto it. Hit a shot drive on I think I played between seven and eight full round of golf from dawn to dusk. That was one of my bucket list Dreams to play unlimited golf from dawn, till dusk, without having to wait for another person the entire day.

      I've seen her interviewed with 1 daughter, very often kids don't like having celebrity parents because, as Fonda acknowledges, it takes time & attention away from them.

      You don't have any idea what you are talking about. Jane's mom killed herself when Jane was 13 and her dad was unable to talk about that traumatic incident with his kids. She's talking about her life long struggle of trying to connect with her emotionally unavailable father. He was a brilliant filmmaker but he couldn't communicate outside his films
