exactly what I needed... Outstanding! Thank you!
Thanks man, I was trying to figure this out for a while now. You saved the day !
THANK YOU!!! I have PhD in Computer Science and still did not how to fix it.
😂
😂
proof college is scam 😆
you just saved me so much time - thank you sir!!!!!
Seems to me like a bandwidth issue.
Hdmi 1.4 is 10.2gb (4k @ 24hz)
Hdmi 2.0 is 18gb (4k @ 60hz)
Displayport 1.4 offers 32gb 4k@120hz with 30 bit colour and hdr.
Then there’s is hdmi 2.1 48 gb bandwidth
And displayport 2.0 with 78gb bandwidth.
I have been trying to figure out why my pc wouldn't match up on my extended display for 5 hours. THANK YOU.
You're lacking in attention to detail... After u changed your HDMI settings from 2.0, 1.4 your 120hz automatically reverts to 60hz... It's on your screen I'm not making any of this up
use a display cable
so i got an other problem with my g9... when i use pip and are done using it, i turn pip off the screen adjust aswell so i only see one screen on the monitor. but when i go to my pc settings it still shows up as 2 screens... i am in contact with samsung over this but they have not been anny help so far...
I was using display port, switched to HDMI and resolution "3810 by 1080, True Color (32 bit), 60 Hertz" and works now, thanks
Hello! What happens if you don’t have PC/Gaming options
Great video thanks!
Thx very much I wonder too if I do want to game with surface pro 8 do you suggest other settings to have full screen and hdr capability...I tried downloading off Xbox app from store and it said this pc can't display the game which I know isn't correct.
thaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaank you so muccchhh ! 3 hours of intaling new driver and lot of shits
Dislike bcs you not say that HDMI 1.4 limit your frequency, you probably have proper resolution with 30Hz !. Many monitors can work with 1.4 as max 100Mhz max and DisplayPort can unlock 144/240hz. To important to ignore that in video
Hi sir. I have a ALIENWARE 38 CURVED GAMING MONITOR - AW3821DW and I am not able to find these settings. Please help.
I have the 2023 Samsung 49-inch Odyssey OLED G9 and I am running a mac mini m2 pro with ventura os. I have searched and searched and searched on this monitor for the menu settings that you show and absolutely cannot find it!!! Any ideas??
If you ever found a solution to this please share because I have the same monitor
you should be using the display port and cable not the hdmi cable to benefit from that 240hz, your eyes will thank you !
Holy Cow! Amazing! This was short sweet and to the point. Most effective, fixed my issue quickly, thank you so very much for your content!
I love you! Searched for 2 hours and this lead me to the right direction. Fiddle with the settings on your monitor peeps!!
Thanks Luke! Just like you I was searching for hours until I figured it out myself. Then I realized the world needed a video showing how to fix this issue.
This isn't really the best solution. You should go into your graphics card settings and ensure it's set to use the correct refresh rate and resolution (the samsung odyssey g9 is 5120X1440; you can change the monitor's refresh rate in the monitor settings from either 60, 120, or 240 - if you're not gaming, 60-120 is fine). You can do this usually through AMD or NVIDIA control panels. Then, go to Windows Display Settings and set the resolution to the same as your graphics card settings, and adjust scaling for larger image if you need it. Finally, in the display settings window still, click advanced, and ensure your refresh rate in windows matches your refresh rate on the monitor and graphics card settings.
Additionally, if changing your HDMI version is altering your image, it's likely that you don't have the right cable. The samsung has an HDMI 2.0 port, and you should use an HDMI 2.0 cable (or 2.1 if on the neo g9). Otherwise you're limiting the data bandwidth to 60hz refresh rate which is likely causing the issue in the first place - HDMI versions less than 2.0 cannot support higher refresh rates at this monitor's native resolution.
This worked!!! Thank you for taking the time to share! :) Changed from 30 to 60- instant fix.
You said a couple of times "on any brand monitor", well, that's not so. Not all monitors have the settings that fixed your issue. My wide screen doesn't have the option to go from HDMI 2 to HDMI 1.4, so no go for me.
It's a standard connection setting that accommodates a monitor connecting to various sources. If your monitor lacks this then it likely does not have the ability to use the source properly (next level is usually to upgrade the video card if you have a PC-this is of course after making sure all the OS system's on screen settings did not do the trick) Good Luck
Why are you using the HDMI port with Oddysey G9?
It is like a waste of money. You never get a 240hz refresh rate.
Yeah I know if we were gamers that would make more sense but for now we are doing accounting spreadsheets and mild video editing so the width to height ratio is where we get our money's worth.
Thanks Pal.. Superb. Saved my lot of time..
You’re the man! I can’t believe that an issue like this doesn’t have more content. I spent hours trying to figure it out, and didn’t find anything through Samsung or online. Good job!
Just got the G9 and thought I was toast. Your video showed up at the top and solved the issue in seconds. Thanks for taking the hassle out of setting this up!
Hey Lander! My pleasure! Enjoy your G9 Monitor!
Same boat. Thanks so much!
Where can I find how to do this on the odyssey OLED G9? The menu looks different
Thanks, Olaf. This is super useful. I'm wondering though, if this display issue is happening to people who use work laptops/personal laptops/console setups? How are you all switching between the different setups? Surely you're not having to manually adjust the settings each time you want to game after work?
Hi Ezinma! We have a regular workstation PC without any graphic cards. I’m not home but I believe the monitors have two hdmi ports that allow multiple devices to be connected at the same time but only one device can run at a time.
I cannot ding the setting you have there. I have a Samsung G95SC and I’ve got it to work toggling the screen ratio but now can’t get it to stop the stretched screen. Any suggestions?
brother my problem is that when I go to watch a video on youtube or vlc I have black borders I can't watch a full screen movie, could you make a video about it
Hey Cubano! I will see what I can do but RUclips Videos never stretch the full width of these screens
@@olaf2046 tnks bro It also happens to me with the vlc I can not see the movies in full screen
Literally saved me a lot of anger, thanks so much you were 100% dead on!
I've tried everything. That setting doesn't exist on my monitor. I got a benq widescreen monitor. I've gone through every setting but nothing works. So annoyed!
Love you man, you solved a nightmare problem for me, couldn’t find the info anywhere, great much needed video 👌🏾
Hi Olaf, I have the Dell U4025QW 40" and I can't figure out how to unstretch my monitor. I have a NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2060 with Max Q. I have my monitor connected to my laptop using 2.1 hdmi adapter via thunderbolt. I checked my settings but because this isnt a gaming monitor, I cant change it into PC mode lif you did. Any suggestions? thank you
just got my first ultra wide monitor i thought my games couldnt be played on them because of this issue. Simple and straight to the point thank you brother
Outstanding video, addressing the very issues I have. Very well explained. My menu is slightly different for the first step, though, so I will need my son to guide me through it. Thanks!
why dont you answer since a half year???
What is if i want to run the monitor with an Displayport 1.4 instead of hdmi!? Do i still have to do this settings???
I'm pretty sure I replied last year. Display Port 1.4 will not need to have these HDMI settings configured.
@@olaf2046 thx bro at öeast 🥰
None of you are having the issue where you can’t toggle through the menu settings?
That sounds like hardware issue
This wasn't my issue but the issue with this monitor was the text size of everything at 5120 x1140... so i played with the text size settings, set them to 110 percent instead of 100 and now i can read everything much better..
Congrats, now u have a 2000 dollar DWQHD-Monitor with a 1080p resolution....
not to mention you lose hdr ability and get only 120Hz in a best case scenario... if you like to burn ur money (as implied by wearing two watches) give it to me instead. i think most of you have the problem of an to old GPU not supporting hdmi 2.0, or maybe you just used the wrong port (igpu instead of dedicated) best way to drive it is allways displayport. I only landed here cause my background image was not scaled proper since microsoft is not aware of the existence of 32:9 monitors (just assigned it as streched).
Yeah, it’s evident in the video this guy doesn’t know what he’s talking about. I don’t know how this ended up in my recommendations
I've been searching around for info like this. I'm trying to decide on what to buy for a new monitor, replacing two older 27" and want to go with one larger monitor. I'm bouncing back and forth between a 38 to 40" flat 16:9 or a larger 45 to 49 curved.
I don't game. I mostly use Word, standards apps, web browsing, RUclips, etc. I do like the look of the widescreens, but I'm afraid they may not be good for what I do and text may not be as clear. Of course, all the local sales people say the large curved monitors will work just fine for me.
This helps, although I'm still not sold on the widescreens.
I have a 35" Scepter Ultrawide Monitor and I have been looking for this fix for some time. The monitor looks great when connected to my regular PC, but when trying to connect my work laptop to it I experience the same resolution issues you show at the start. Unfortunately as far as I can tell this monitor does not have those settings you refer to in the video. Open to ideas, but guessing I'm out of luck...
I’m in the exact same situation actually, I still can’t find anything on my sceptre 35inch.
I used this setting for the exact same screen you have. It's not perfect but it helped a lot ruclips.net/video/m5HeOSnOe6s/видео.html
Hey did you find a fix for it yet it would be helpful if you could tell me?
@@brianstevens7551 Hey did you find a fix for it yet it would be helpful if you could tell me?
I’d like to know how to fix this too
You are the best. thank you so much ⭐️
I have a 34inch Odyssey G5 and I seriously cannot thank you enough!! I was going mad trying to find a solution for this on websites! The solution to my problem was to change the Input port version to 1.4 cause mode was already set to PC (default port version was 2.0).
This is just excellent. I was about to return my ultrawide. I sucks that the manual does not make the difference clear between the hdmi-versions. Thanks a lot!
I am on the same screen as you. However, for me the issue was I am on a gaming laptop (GE66 Raider) and I wanted to run 5120 × 2880 but I couldn't find it in the list of the Windows Display Settings, HOWEVER when I switched the monitor's refresh rate to 60hz down from 120hz, I was able to choose this option in the settings.
I ordered this monitor from Costco. I should receive it by 03/22/2023. I plan to use more for pleasure like RUclips, including work, typing reports. I plan to watch Netflix and Amazon Video. Any particular setting to watch Netflix? I know I will have the black bar to the right and left. Thanks for this awesome video.
This is working because your graphic card cannot support the full resolution of the monitor (which HDMI 2.0 supports) so by switching it to HDMI 1.4 with lower bandwidth you are forcing the monitor and PC to use a lower resolution than the native resolution of the panel.
So in essence it is like you running 720p on a 1080p monitor because your graphic card cant support it. You need a better GPU to suppory the amount of pixels the monitor has.
Thanks! I am a tech-savvy person and kept trying the Windows display settings. Turns out changing it on my ultrawide monitor itself did the trick!
i just bought the Samsung G9 OLED 49in. Amazing monitor but having trouble with games.. uhgg. hope this helps.. i spent over a thousand dollars on this thing lol!
Help, please. I have a samsung CHG90 and followed your directions step by step. Now, my screen shows small in the center of the monitor only. What can I do?
I only had to adjust the 1 setting- Had to knock down HDMI mode from 2.0 to 1.4. The PC\AV deal seems to be automatic with the 57 ver.
Make sure you have 1.4 HDMI cable attached between PC and this monitor and not HDMI 2.0 cable. Otherwise, you will get grain screen and no picture.
Thank you so much. I could not get my older work laptop to show on screen. You tips (HDMI 1.4) saved the day. Cheers
Anybody have the issue when trying 100hz or 120hz refresh rate, it will move the screen to only the center? Otherwise I can only do 60hz without messing up the screen. It will still be the same with HDMI 1.4 and 2.0. Thank you!
omgggg still relevant 2 years later. struggled for HOURS scouring the internet and trying to connect my work computer to my Samsung monitor. Thank you so much for this savior of a video!
Thanks Olaf, your video seem to be the only one out there for this. I have a newer model one and the settings are different. I have an Odessy G9 OLED and the settings seem to be different. I can't figure out how I can get it to these settings. Please help if might know how I could do the same on my new monitor. Thanks
saddly this changed nothing. Same exact monitor and everything. Unplugged it to move it to a new location and ever since it looks like trash because I cant get the resolution back.
Tried HDMI, Tried Display port. Nothing
It worked! How do you get the text to sharpen or focus? My text still looks slightly blurry around the edges. Trying to to get letters sharper.. thanks in advance for your help..

Thank you soooo much this monitor was giving me heartburn before this video 😧🤦🏽♀️😊
I’ve been having this issue all day with the Samsung Odyssey G9 OLED. I can’t seem to find that HDMI setting.
I have a LG monitor for gaming/Xbox one and when I go to setting it does not show system what do I do?
Finally someone showing and solving my exact problem. Thanks man!
When your monitor is twice the price of your PC. 😅
Lol. True but still half the price of the average smart phone in 2021!
this did not help me with my main f**kin issue,...and still trying find out how hell i get my frame rate from 60 to at the LEAST 140 or higher....like wtf!
I didn't think this would work because 3 years in technology is like same as dog years... but it did! OMG.
Hey this saved me!!! Thank you so much! I thought my laptop wouldn’t work with my new monitor and i was so sad but this did it!!!
Thank you! Was ripping my hair out. So odd though, had this monitor for 2 years and it randomly became an issue now
I was having this issue with an LG SDQHD (2560 x 2880) monitor. This solved it. Thanks!
I followed your instructions but the HDMI Mode is dimed out red even though I'm connecting using a Mac HDMI port could it be Mac only has one mode for their HDMI settings.
Olaf, I bought a 32 inch AIO hp and the same monitor won't even appear hdmi to hdmi and the display settings claims it doesn't see another screen do you happen to know if that is an hp issue?
After many trials,,, looking around. Finally found this video and got my work laptop working just right on the 49 wide screen, Thank you !
Omg thank youuuu I've been at this for hours trying to fix the scaling
Holy Hell, great video, my screen worked fine until one day it was stretched to the ends of the world! Ha, ha, lol...working great again thanks to your video!!
I have a green screen when I try to diagnose it in the menus? Any idea? Also pc won’t display but anything else will like Xbox no prob. Any clue?
Is there a way to fix the login screen wallpaper resolution? I set it to a 32:9 wallpaper but it's still cropped and looks ugly every time I login
Thanks but my 2023 lg doesn't have that hdmi settings. Hdmi 1 and 2 and display port and I'm using display mode
have a Mac mini M1 base model with thunderbolt ports and Samsung G9 49 inch monitor can someone please recommend a good cable?
1.4 doesn't work on neo g9 2.0+ does work. also its a video graphics driver update is needed (at least for me).
I connect my WQHD monitor and it displays nothing, just blank screen, any suggestions please?
which model is that?
Yo bro i got a ps5 Yeah and the screen is 34 inch 165 hz but on u it says 60 fps and 120 but on me it is 60 fps and 100 Why not 120 someone help i cant use 120
Wow I thought my laptop didn’t support the monitor and was going to sell it! You saved me! Thank you
Thanks it did not fix my problem I had to go In to windows but it help Thank you 👏
You are welcome Etienne!
Brooooo!!! You saved me hours of cussing... this was dong my head in each time I was using Premier Pro, the screen would go black. You are the BOMB!! Thank you!
I don’t think a lot of the people here realize they are not the target audience for displays like the G9. I don’t even know how they internally justify the price without understanding the features and options.
That did not work, but changing to a single docking station worked, but why not multiple docking station? 😢
My samsung odyssey g4 monitor brightness is locked can't change it .please give a solution
I have an LG Ultrawide monitor. Unfortunately it doesn't have the same settings as yours.
Serious life saver! I was about to go nuts and found this! Thank you so much!
hello, i was wondering why my hz section was greyed out. Is there a way to fix it.
Hey OLAF, nice video but you said it works on all widescreen monitors. I have a Viotek Ultrawide 49 in monitor and i dont have those settings. So im stuck with this flat band stretched out. Any suggestions PLEASE!
Thanks Cesar. On the remote control that came with your Viotek monitor you should have a SOURCE and HDR button on the remote control that should adjust these settings.
i cant find mine or does it have a diffrent name and mine is a 34 inch ultra wide with a 165 display
Thanks, you just saved me hours of confusion and I cancelled the extra cables I ordered for my Odessey Neo
Ohh mann you safe my life.but i have to set to 1.2.now i have the full resolution.🎉👍🏻😌
Hey Olaf, I LOVE the video. Any idea how to access this on the Samsung Odyssey OLED 49" version? It is basically the same computer, but I don't know where or how to access that specific menu you were able to
Settings/imput port ver. Are you able to get 5440x1440 already? I cannot get higher then full HD with all my laptops as of yet while they should.
now only if we can have a fix for this issue on odyssey neo g9 57''
why import version @ hdmi 1.4 instead 0f 2.0+
You are showing a setting I do not see? I just got the Odyssey G9 DQHD 49” ultrawide
I’m not seeing the options at 3:13 I’m
In the system settings
Hi Olaf, thanks so much for this video. I am over here dying of laughter. I bought the exact same monitor and spent six hours last night without anyone on RUclips having this simple answer. Thanks for saving me from a heart attack ;)
Glad to help Mike. ☺
Thank you sooo much!!! Spent quite a while googling and watching youtube videos on how to fix it, but to no avail. Your fix took care of it within minutes!!
