How to cover or mask off doors or windows before painting or stucco.
Red vinyl or Poly tape, like Echo tape, won’t leave a residue.

Howdy ambitious subscribers, we’re sharing some learned knowledge about tape or masking off a door or window with red vinyl tape or poly tape.
So, protect your windows and doors for your job site by covering them with Echo vinyl tape.
Protect them from stucco etching or from primers and paints.
Some cheaper brands are fine, but few are superior to Echo.
The Red vinyl Shurtape is also excellent.
Here’s the catch, the inferior ones are okay if you’re planning on covering for under a day or week. However, If you plan on leaving the tape on for up to a month or more.
Use a quality tape such as Echo; if not, you and your crew could spend hours removing the cheap adhesive from the frames.
Why? The sun melts the cheap adhesive they used; I’m not talking about heat over one hundred degrees; I’m talking about heat in the 75 to 90-degree heat.
If it does get to 100 with the majority of tapes, plan on spending days cleaning the cheap adhesive residues of frames.
Some companies knowingly sell inferior tapes and other products that are a part of life.
If this sounds bitter? It’s not.
Frustrating is a more accurate word, as I have been in the past with inferior tapes.
I haven’t used inexpensive wannabe tapes in a long time.
I should inform our subscribers of things that make a difference; thus, I’m telling you like it is. 😉
Don’t buy useless tapes in the warm, let alone hot sun, to melt the cheap residues these greedy companies use instead of quality adhesives, or you will pay in frustration and time.
Our unique tip for all subscribers with a question or concern, type your question into our channel, and like magic, a video will appear to explain how it’s done.
Hello, thank you for sharing your knowledge. The person that did the stucco for me had good intentions but covered our brand new $5,000 sliding glass door frame with stucco, they are the specialty black framed sliders. I’m really sad and am hoping there is something I can do to get the stucco off without damaging the frame with scratches and dings. Any advice would be GREATLY appreciated ❤
Hello, stucco may be washed off vinyl frame and glass, with soapy water with a soft sponge. Naturally don't push the sand too hard into the glass or frames. Think of this excess stucco, as spaghetti burnt at the bottom of a pan. let it soak a while then gently rub it off with the sponge and water hose. In other words, spay the door with water and allow it to saturate the stucco residue a couple times, it should come right off with minimal effort.👨🏻🔬
Hey dude, I have had more than my share of its application.
I worked union for years where we applied the Dri Vit systems on hospitals.
Plus I have hung hundreds of form molds around windows and doors.
Have a groovy evening.

Howdy dude, on complete homes. We cover windows prior to start of a traditional 3 cost stucco system. A scratch can take from 1 to 5 days to apply. This has to cure prior to the second coat (brown coat) 2 days, minimum.
A brown coat takes much longer. This coat must set at least (2 to 3 weeks) at this stage a stucco guy is usually past the so called 30 days. This is before we even apply a color finish.
Great question, have a groovy day!

hey healer, you can order them online at.bontools or cut the bottom corner out of a bucket and attach it to a stick about 12 inches long by about 2 inches wide for the screws. Unless you have made them before they are difficult. I will make a video of how it’s done next week. Or simply cut the bottom out of a Clorox 1 gallon bottle. It’s goofy but it works o.k.
Have a good evening

Hey Kirk this is Michael and I doing to base coat eifs work and was wondering if u know of any ways to make a scoop to put that mud on the hawk? Thanks Kirk
Hi Kirk, the gentleman doing our stucco uses this tape also, and apparently this tape has a chemical reaction to the black foil coating on our windows and when removing tape as he just tested it on one window , it's pulling off the foil coating which my wife is not happy about, after calling the window manufacturer rep, all they could offer is to come back to paint them.. his reasoning was the tape has a chemical reaction.. is there an alternative tape that perhaps could work with this foil coating finish on our new windows to hopefully avoid this? TIA
Howdy Ray, all tapes pull off the paint.
No doubt your window manufacturer did not inform you the frames had just been painted,
I had this goofy stuff happen about three months ago. I asked the guy, how did you find black frames? He said he painted them.
I said, well, my tape will pull that paint off.
He offered me some interior blue tap. I used this gentle tape, and after only less than an hour, the gentle blue tape also pulled some paint off.
The customer was not concerned. He simply said, no worries, I'll touch the frames back up.
ruclips.net/video/2IWpqF2eUcI/видео.html/ the paint was removed in this video, LOL.🍻
Are you using 3M Stucco Tape? I found it at Home Depot.
Hi Ray, no im using, Red vinyl or poly tape as it won't leave residues.
@@StuccoPlastering Thank you for clarifying.
@@StuccoPlastering You mentioned the name of the tape in another thread, and I think I found it on Amazon: ECHOtape CL-W6089 Premium Grade 60-Day Stucco Duct Tape | No Residue Masking Tape for Windows & Doors | Stucco Contractor Tape. Thanks again, Kirk.
@@StuccoPlastering are you still using red vinal tape? Or have you transcended I to more modern tapes like frog tape?
@@Shopweasel I use Echo or Shure vynal tape, personally. the stuff at HD is good, but I have to rely on professional brands that cater to professional contractors. I can't afford to guess or try new stuff for fear of losing thousands of dollars and man-hours for inferior stuff. Because it's referred by homeowners.
Hi Kirk, We noticed water slowly dripping into our 2 story house from above the 1st floor sliding door. Right outside the door is huge metal awning so the water isn't from rain directly hitting the door. I went outside and removed the decorative wood trim surrounding the door. We can see the interior white trim from the outside in some areas of the door. There is a small gap between the stucco and plastic door frame. The edge of the stucco is VERY wet -- I can see the wetness. I suspect the water is coming down from the stucco and dripping down onto the door because of all the rain recently. There was no flashing above the door either. What are you thoughts?
Thanks!
Howdy Dennis, if it were me I would remove the stucco around the door, this is called explorations, see what is in fact the problem, and hire a professional to repair then re stucco.
Cheers and live long and plaster

Hey! Great video - could you link to the roll of plastic and the red tape you're using? Thanks
Howdy Fabrice Dude, I use ECHO tape, personally as far as plastic use the medium mill or 6 mill plastic.
I would suggest once on the site the red tape will come up then type in 6 mill plastic for covering.

@@StuccoPlastering Thanks a lot for the reply I appreciate! Have a good day
why would you leave windows covered for 30 days?
HI WILL THAT TAPE HOLD UP IN BAD WEATHER LIKE SNOW COLD AND IS IT DUCT TAPE VICKY
HI Vicky Conery, the tape we use is supposed to last 30 days without leaving a residue. This is not true, in fact it's a bold face lie.
Most tapes that are in the sun say 85 degrees or up will last about 20 days max then they will leave a residue.
Tape on window frames in 100 degree heat, wow, try 10 days,
Of course this vinyl tape is much better than silver duct tape as this duct tape is is not made for covering windows.
Best wishes,
P.S.I will do a detailed video on this subject tomorrow as I have every color known to man on my truck and other folks wish more details.
Best wishes,

Why don’t they use this tape for painting houses too?
Hi John, most painters also use this tape.
Are there any great ways to accomplish this with sliding doors that still need to be opened daily?
Howdy Natasha, absolutely, they sell heavier mill plastic with zipper specifically for this purpose.
Or you can cut a slit the plastic down the middle, care must be taken not to get junk inside the door area if you do this.
Peace love and happiness to all.
Plastering and repair tips for your number one investment
I noticed your guys only broke out 2 inches of stucco around the frame. It should be 6-10 inches (to the stud) so you don't get cracking down the line.
Howdy Andrew Debasque, who says we broke out the stucco?
In our area they wish for 3 to 6 inches, however in reality often we can't get a half an inch as sometime both the paper and wire are deteriorated or not there, or it's a stud hose, we do the best we can with what we have to work with.
Besides the width matters little with hairlineing.
Best wishes,
kirk giordano Plastering
Hi i noticed you put it on from the outside instead of inside. Is it more affective or the same?
Good Morning Nasia, the idea is to cover the complete frame to protect from stucco

cool man, i do e.i.f.s. stucco, do you know of it?
Can I put duct tape
Howdy Wu, of course you can, keep in mind duct tape will sometimes leave a sticky residue if left on too long or it is allowed to stay on in the hot sun.
Thus, I don't ever use duct tape myself on windows or door, as it takes too long to remove any and all sticky residues.
cheers,
Kirk and Jason’s sand and cement rendering videos
Holden Wells the company which I used to work for we used duct tape and vinyl tape to cover doors and windows. We would first do duct tape around the frame and then on top we would do vinyl along with the plastic and towards the end of the job it wouldn’t leave any glue residue but if it does you can easily remove it with your glove but like Kirk said it also depends on the weather. I personally hate vinyl tape but the company who I work for now uses it all the time but yet it’s a personal choice
"Install tape on window or door or elsewhere....But Please...DO NOT let bugs and other insects get Trapped on the sticky part of the tape."
"You can tape back to back so that the "sticky" part of the tape faces AWAY from the bugs/insects so that bugs/insects do NOT get TRAPPED on the sticky tape" ("example AWAY from the side of the window where insects and bugs can get trapped/stuck on the sticky part of the adhesive/tape").
Howdy Mate, thanks for the tip,
