Yep! I'm currently living in Japan. My mom is Japanese so I did speak Japanese before moving to Tokyo. Will definitely try to do some more on my life here :) I didn't realize anyone would be interested haha
@@Erika2 Yes I"m very interested in seeing more videos on your life in Japan! I'm a new sub and found you through your video on leaving your big law job and love hearing about the personal side of things. It's inspiring and helps me focus on some of the things that are meaningful in life. Can't wait for the next one!
I haven't been to Tokyo since the late 90's, but to this day, I still rave about the efficiency, ease of use and cleanliness of the subway system there. Looking forward to going back to Japan for an extended visit in the not too distant future.
I’m in Brownsville, Tx and at the flea market we can get 4-5 small avocados for $1. At heb/Walmart we can get 1 medium avocado for around .78 cents or a large avocado for around 1.50 We are right next to Mexico, so fruits are generally cheap
I am interested in that seeing your life in Japan! Generally, its easier for us to learn financial habits by just seeing someong live their live while implementing them. It feels more achievable and inspiring that way haha

Avocados in the US usually run about $1 - 1.50 each depending on the season. And $1 for a banana is also quite expensive. In the US bananas are usually sold by the pound but come out to around $0.20 each.
Yes, those cheaper prices do exist in Tokyo too. She just happened to visit a slightly upmarket store that day. Prices for the things you've mentioned can also be cheaper in Tokyo, depending on where you pick to shop
Going to Japan is on my bucket list. just stumbled on your channel. My condolences to you .. watched the video about your grandpa :( LOVE this video thanks for sharing some Japan with us here in Cali! xoxo
How I miss Tokyo. I've visited several times and love how convenient it is to just go outside and get some great food at a family mart. And the sushi drool, so expensive to get that quality out here in L.A. for something almost every sushi bar there offers.
Thank you Erika. Was great to see the food and prices. Weekly rent included in this pricing would be great. Apologies if this comment is already here. Haven't read them all
Nice video, Erika. If you want to save more money, you might consider moving out of central Tokyo. We live in the west end (Kokubunji) where the rents are much lower. Also, there are several weekend markets around here where we stock up on our weekly vegetables. A train ride into central Tokyo takes about 20-30 minutes. Cheers!
Awesome video ERIKA. Thanks for sharing. Wow that's a lot of money spent in one day. Keep the incredible content coming. Hope you have an amazing weekend. Always a pleasure seeing your beautiful face and smile. Much love from the EAST COAST USA
That would be awesome. I plan to retire in the next couple of years and would like to start a You Tube channel and I am going to need a few You Tuber friends to learn and grow. I hadn’t thought about joining new friends to learn and share, but that is a great tip. I always learn something from your videos. Thanks❣️
I loved that video. Please make more. Fruits are insanely expensive, but all the rest seems quite cheap to me and I do not live in a big city in France...
I've been to that conveyor belt sushi place in Shibuya several times until a local told me to not eat there anymore because the fish they use is low quality and high in radiation. He told me "never eat sushi where you can't see the chef". Another place I really like is Stand Up Sushi. It's also in Shibuya near Burger King.
Halfie I recently graduated with an associate degree and in school for my bachelor's of science. I need help, I got a Job with Dell Technologies. Full time student and full time worker. I have debt and using the avalanche method. But what if I have the opportunity to pay it all off ? I did that with a pervious loan and my credit went down 🥺 so should I just pay it off every month? Instead at once?
Really enjoyed the video! I had expected the prices would be so much higher. I'm glad that it seemed very reasonable since I do want to visit Japan. I think I could eat at the food truck every day. :) Avocados in VA cost about $2.50 each..it depends where you buy them. Not very cheap.
What about rent and utilities? Would be interesting to know that too. Otherwise very interesting video! Tokyo and Japan in general seem like a very cool place, would love to visit. ☺️🙌🏼
Delighted to find out you live in Tokyo as well!! A lot of the resources for investment out there only talk about the US, so it would be great to hear some tips from you about investing while living in Japan (as a non American). hm... maybe thats too much to ask .. anyway, glad to find your channel!
That was different. Wouldn't mind seeing a "day in the life" kind of thing showing us some sights and stuff. Maybe bloopers. You probably never make mistakes, though. Thanks for the vid!
I have so much respect for people like this who are so focused and have the willpower to grind through and persevere even in the hardest times. Any success achieved is well deserved.
Didn’t think living in Japan was a little more expensive. I shop at the Hispanic markets here in Boston and can survive on $20 a week very comfortably. Some supermarkets save the food that’s near spoiling or dented (ugly veggies or canned beans, milk etc) for like 75% off too.
I’ve always wanted to move to Japan. It felt like my 2nd home whenever I go there for vacation. Thank you for this video. By the way, what do you use to edit your videos? Love it!! ❤️
What you have spent in one week. It's my budget for the whole month in Germany (including: fruits, salads, cereals and meat). BTW really nice video. I would love to visit Japan one day.
I remember getting lost and exploring Tokyo as a teenager. Back then, almost nobody spoke English. I'm curious how it is now. I bet many places have translated signs/menus now. I can spend more or less in a week depending on how lazy I am in LA.
hey erika wow fruit are that expensive over there... but avocado in Texas for each is 60 cent....LOL japan so clean over there ... keep making video it awesome...
Please do a video about dealing with Probate! What process or sequential steps does a young widow have to navigate through? Especially one who lost a spouse and a relative (beneficiary of a relatives estate) at the same time?!!
I want to have a work-life balance like Erika as well!!! Unfortunately, people in the United States work at least 50+ hours per week. Anyone who can have a 40 hour workweek is considered lucky in USA 🇺🇸
Hi Erika! I hope this comment still gets noticed haha. Just wondering what camera was used to film the outdoor shots when you were walking? Were you guys using a stabilizer? Thank you so much in advance and have a lovely day. 😊
Are there any expenses you think people miss when moving to other countries like you did? I’m starting to plan my move but I find so many different numbers for the same city. Trying to calculate what I’ll need before I move seems difficult and I definitely feel like there are pitfalls or oversights. Thank you for the video Erika! I love these sorts of videos! For me, avocados at the closest super market is between $2-$2.50 for an avocado.
Would love to hear about how you went about finding a position in Tokyo as a lawyer! So intrigued! 😊
Your footage of Japan is soo cool! I would love to see more content of you walking around and exploring and talking about the culture
Yes! Me too.
Graham is gonna see this and be like: “you gotta cut that down to $6, maybe $7, so $1 a day.”
no one can scape from Graham xD
LOL
LOL so true, Erika needs to prepare for a Graham reacts video!
Haha I'm waiting for his reaction 😂
I got lost for so many hours in the Tokyo train system. It was so confusing 😭
Don't worry. Even Japanese folks get lost on the trains here. The rail system is massive. But very convenient.

avocado costs $0.67-$1.5 each depending on size, whether it is bulk or individual and whether it is organic or regular... (wholefoods, maryland)
I would be eating avocados every day if I could get them for $0.67 haha :)
It’s all about treating your time and your money as one in the same.

avocados in Los Angels area around $2.50 organic $3.50

OMG...I have to go to Japan now!
I'd be interested in knowing how the cost of living (rent, taxes, utilities, food, etc.) compares to a place in the US, like Los Angeles.
Hi. I live in Hawaii and the prices seem pretty comparable. (So extremely expensive.) avocados are often 2 for $4 ‘on sale’.
