      I’m sure they will! As an autistic person myself, (and because I see a lot of parents who have autistic children do this so it’s just a note I always leave behind) : don’t support autism speaks or use the puzzle pieces to represent us, and please please PLEASE let your child stim. therapy to make us stop stimming actually just makes us bottle up our feelings and not actually help. Your child will learn what they can, and do their best regardless! Just have patience and treat them with the same respect as anyone! 👍🏻

    ABA is an amazing prgram, yet there are those in the autism community who hate ABA.
    You can not make a person non autisitc as it is a Neuological condtion, I know I have ASD and so does my son.

    • @paularominagimenez1496
      @paularominagimenez1496 Год назад +5

      The biggest problem I have with ABA is, in first place, the language and expectations around the kid. It's not about the kid, it's about what's expected of him. His mom says "Once you start to see the progress you're like omgsh he's gonna have the best life. He's special". So before that, his son wasn't, for her, special or had opportunities whatsoever. The journalist says "... mom noticed that he wasn't hitting those key learning marks when he was just one". There's so little acceptance of the difference in this hole video.
      Look at minute 1:33, how he goes for his ears after the therapist yells in celebration of his supposedly accomplishment. I would say a therapist should be trained into understanding and reading his client non-verbal communication, and yet there she is, yelling. Even if there is no bad intentions involved, I think it's not a good therapy because it doesn't look at the patient needs but at it's inner and external circle. Can it be good? Yeah sure, if it changes it focus. I guess that might be one of the many reasons why we autistics hate ABA so much. It's just too dangerous in such a young age to learn to act in a certain way without understanding why. There is a lot going on when you don't speak, we're most likely processing a lot of information that's fundamental for our own development. Being obliged at acting in certain ways, being pushed at doing certain things that are considered "normal", only puts stones into other things we actually need, like just learning who we are and how do we feel confortable interacting with the world, ant not how others feel we should be doing it.
      I think what I'm trying to say is that I don't feel like ABA has the respect it should have in regards of a human being. Besides, two to six hours six days a week in therapy. Can you see how crazy that is? He's just a kid, he doesn't need a full time job at the age of three, he needs independance into safe playing. He needs to know the world, to experiment with it. He doesn't need the huge expectations and pressure that is being put into his back.

    • @wearesolarfarmers
      @wearesolarfarmers Год назад

      Oh, I am sorry , i didn't know you knew so little about aba. You can not imagine when your child starts self care. You can not imagine , the joy when a child cooks thier own meals. You do not know the joy when your child brushes thier teeth. Granted ABA is not for everyone that is the reason there are other practices, now autism is different for all of us affected. And therapies are different fo those of us who have ASD. So, if ABA is so Abusive, why does our son take joy in learning new skills?

    • @wearesolarfarmers
      @wearesolarfarmers Год назад

      Oh and I am an autistic and I agree with aba, no one can speak for we the autistics, because we autistics are individuals.
      And because we are individuals, there a different therapies. Some of like aba, others like different programs. But no autistic can say they speak for all Autistic people . And no one can speak for us. We must speak for ourselves .

    • @110311DONTWANTCHANNE
      @110311DONTWANTCHANNE Год назад +2

      They cite examples of bad ABA as the reason all ABA is bad. Nowadays many people feel that eye contact doesn't need to be forced and stimming is okay as long as its not harmful or extreme (screaming that disturbs others for example). Good ABA therapists make it fun and don't force them to sit there like robots.

    • @fireheartandsapphire
      @fireheartandsapphire Год назад

      No. No it's not. Lovaas was a sick psychopathic murderer who founded it. What's a good program is trying to understand them, and some ABA therapists are nice, but I do not believe in ABA!!

When I was about 3, my parents put me in to taekwondo because it was good for me and also I needed some skills and did OT with my instructor. When I was 4 and 5 they put me into OT because so that I can get some skills for the rest of my life. I started talking when I was about 6 when i was in kindergarten. Autism requires a lot face to face time and as a parents need to make sacrifices as it takes a lot of effort.

    • @whitneyparis24

      What an ignorant thing to say. Most parents have a hard time understanding how to play and teach their children with ASD because they learn so differently. Oftentimes, therapists are teaching parents just as much as they’re teaching the children. It is very difficult, especially if you are a parent who is neurotypical, to learn on their own how to teach and parent their neurodivergent child effectively.

      my son was able to speak or (i would say) make some sounds, less than 10 words till 2.5 yr old. Soon after he started speech therapy, things got better in the beginning whereas not much progress after a few months. All of sudden, he picked up words out of his favorite youtube show(Caillou, peppa pigs). Now he still needs to smooth out certain expressions but is doing well. I would say, it depends on case by case, i was so depressed once noticed his autism spectrum, but it could get better. Love and spending more time with him, that's what you can do now with patience.
