I have been making salad dressings for the past 35 years. I have probably made 75 different ones from all the cookbooks I have bought. This first one is so, so simple and tasty. I did use apple cider vinegar and I was happy with the result. But, how simple and inexpensive this was to make! I plan on making the ranch dressing when I purchase Greek yogurt at the store. It looks so easy to make as well! By the way, two other comments. Gourmet salad dressings at the store cost $5.99 and up for a small bottle...and, they aren't always healthy or tasty. I love the mason jar and will look for one like it to buy.

If we skip fresh ingredients like garlic and parsley, can we store these dressings for longer?

(Almost) perfect timing. I spent yesterday looking for salad dressing recipes. I don't generally use dressing on my salads, but I like to have dressings available for guests. It can take me 5 - 10 years to use up a bottle of salad dressing (yuck!), so I needed to find dressings that I can whip up on the spot in fairly small quantities. These dressings are perfect and all that I need (plus an old family recipe). I always have these ingredients in my kitchen or garden, so I don't even need to plan ahead.
Thanks again for such wonderful recipes.

@@Eldeirdro 1 1/4 cup mayo,3/4 cup sour cream,1/3 cup buttermilk(less or more dep on how thick or thin you want) 1/4 cup dry dill(more dill the better, IMHO), 1 1/2 tsp kosher salt, 2 tsp fresh cracked blk pepper, 1 tsp lemon juice, 3 tsp red wine vinegar, 2 tsp lea & perrins. Optional 1-2 tbsp of your fav dill pickle brine. Also onion/ garlic optional(powder or chopped) You can play with ingredients to your preference.

I am not a huge fan of oil, but I know it's needed to achieve the perfect result in a lot of dishes. If it is possible, what is used as a replacement, or is it absolutely vital to use oil? Thanks once again for bringing us beautiful, tasty, simple recipes! Cheers

    • @alexandernorman5337

Vegan yoghurts work too. Mayonnaise has a lot more fat, so you'd have to tweak the ingredients amounts.
