can we talk about how Basil's comfort phrase "everything is going to be okay" is Sunny's trigger because Basil kept saying that when they hung Mari. It's so fucked up

i never actually realised until later that in his sprite during the fight he's holding shears. I like how it wasnt just cut out or covered by his "something".

A great thing about this battle; the "blackness" represents the guilt of the characters. The guilt is LITERALLY eating up Basil.

If BASIL could actually reach 0 hp, SUNNY would have "won"
Given the damage dealt, it seems more likely basil was punching. Or he could've been getting rather weak slashes since he was aiming for something behind him. Its also why he stabbed sunny in the right eye.
Sunny didnt have the knife at the time right?

One of the most depressing fights of the game
Any game, really. I don't know too many JRPGs that force you to fight your best friend and doesn't let you do anything at all whatsoever about it. Especially when there's no reason you should want or need to fight said friend, it just kinda happens that way.

damn almost none of them hesitated when they were asked whether they want to save Basil
But after then they realised what it was gonna force them to do and wanted to go back...

This scene is so gruesome that some of them lost hope for good ending just there.
I like how Omori pulls off moral dilemma so hard that player is struggling to justify hope for better.

I think that instead of the game doing the little error noise when you try to run in the fight, it should have Sunny’s Something flash on screen and make it’s respective noise every time you try to run.

The vs basil fight makes me lose hope during the fight because of how you are fighting a child who has the same trauma as you yet you have to go against that person and during the fight I feel like I wanna intentionally lose sometimes
imagine how the group felt when they found sunny and basil on the floor before taking them to the hospital

The first one was talking to Basil though (since he was the aggressor). The second one was saying had to keep fighting so he wouldn't die here.

the fact that Basil's 'Everything is going to be okay' practically poisoned Sunny's Mental State (he kept saying that during the thing) is so fucked up
seeing basil be hurt mentally scars me in many ways.
This fight is just two trauma buddies having panic attacks next to each other
Did anyone notice that in the real world, the text of Fight and Run changes a bit, when you fight somethings or Basil, it's Fight... and Run! But in other fights, it's the other way around, because Sunny wants to run from his fears and the truth.
I've seen something that said that represents the difference between Omori and Sunny. Omori is the fighter, so he is more into fighting than running, and vice versa for Sunny. It also mentioned that Sunny's dissonance from reality is what caused him to attack Aubrey with the knife, because he still thinks he's Omori.
Well actually, in every real world battle, the text changes to Fight… and Run! But in HS it’s Fight! And Run…

This game, is sad, horrifying, depressing, traumatic, and so GOOD! This game is almost made me cry! I love this game... This game has the best story of all time! :')
I just love, that they so naive, and they can't belive that they did the thing. They say, it was "something"... Sunny isn't bad... It was "something".
And the Final Duet OMG is so cherfull, but so depressing in a same way. I just love it, thank you Omocat, your the best.

and sunny has been using it again and again
so it showed side effects.
What makes this fight even worse, is, based off the bad endings, the dialogue, and some analysis another person's made, is that they're not even fighting each other... Sunny went in there to save Basil. Sunny is trying to restrain Basil from killing himself with the garden shears. "There's no way out of this, is there?" "Tell me Sunny, am I selfish for doing this?" "Please... stop it..." "Stop struggling, Sunny. I'm... I'm so tired..."
Meanwhile the guilt and panic are accelerating in both of them, making the Somethings worse, and leading Basil to slash at Sunny's Something, when it's actually Sunny's eye, the same right eye from Mari that the Something takes the form of.
If cheats are used to stall the fight BASIL will start attacking again after the 99th turn. Basically BASIL realizes your cheating and starts killing you.

You know how they say that eyes serve as the window to the soul, and how in Sweetheart’s castle the creature says that Omori’s soul is split. It’s safe to say that Basil poking out an eye meant that Sunny or Omori had to go with it.
Their somethings are just their traumas of what the other one did.

Sunny pushed Mari down the stairs so Basil sees something of her body (and a lot of her) spread on the ground
