I had a strange bug/glitch when recording this video where the "CAP FRAME RATE" setting kept turning itself back on everytime I went into the menu. Once I rebooted the game and XBOX Series X, all was right in the world and that setting stayed. Just FYI for those that may have noticed it in the video or if you run into it yourself. Also since it wasn't clear in the video, I DO NOT RECOMMEND turnning off CAP FRAME RATE in FIDELITY MODE if you're running the game on a 60Hz or non VRR-compatible display. Doing so will result in a really choppy and stuttery looking framerate. *_UPDATE_* After talking with Markus from the GamingTech RUclips channel, it appears that low framerate compensation IS NOT active on the PS5 at the moment. This means that turning of CAP FRAME RATE in all modes except for PERFORMANCE will likely result in a really bad experience and choppy framerate. Just wanted to give everyone a heads up so you have a good experience on whichever platform you're playing it on.
From my testing, I can confirm that LFC is active on the Series X. I've been going back and forth playing in Performance mode and Balanced mode, both with the framerate cap turned OFF. Obviously Performance mode is smoother but Balanced mode looks and plays great with the framerate cap disabled on the Series X version. There are some performance hitches and stuttering to framerates in all modes on all consoles and PC that aren't related to an uncapped framerate (it's the game itself and happens even with the framerate cap turned on), just so you're aware.
@jasons3233 I play in standard on Game Optimizer because my LG C1 has been professionally calibrated and also because I prefer to have an accurate picture. Why does it say higher fps when you have it capped? Shouldnt that mean that it just goes towards the cap for that graphics mode like 30 for fidelity and 60 for performance when cap frame rate option is default on.

I think it may be due to the PS5’s lack of system-wide low framerate compensation (it has to be enabled by the developer). On the Series X it basically works for every game, so if the framerate falls below the VRR threshold, it will double or sometimes triple the framerate to keep VRR active and avoid tearing and choppiness.

Great video. Earlier in the video, when you had the LG game optimizer on the tv showing, you mentioned that the frame rate wasn't correct and that it was doubled, but other times, it was correct. When do you know this? Is it because of certain settings selected? Also, how much of the game have you played? Do you like it? The reviews I've seen are all quite positive.
Thanks for the comment. In terms of the frame rate doubling, that really comes down to low frame rate compensation. Basically, any framerate below, let’s say 48fps, low framerate compensation will kick in and double or sometimes triple each frame in order to keep variable refresh rate active. Once the framerate hits 48fps or above, things go back to normal and the framerate will now be correct. It’s something that’s easier to see and understand on PC because you can have your frame counter on the game and then the LG Game Optimizer menu up on the TV. Once that frame drops below 48fps to 47fps, suddenly the LG is reporting 94fps, even though you know it’s 47fps. Sorry for the long winded answer. As far as the game itself, I’ve played about 3 hours of it so far and it’s surprisingly good. Honestly, much better than expected and it’s pretty dang polished. Performance mode with cap frame rate turned off has been rock solid too. No crazy drops or anything. I’m really enjoying the game overall.

I've got a LG Ultragear 27", VRR enabled + max monitor performance settings, but I am not seeing any Balanced settings, is there a solution or am I just not going to be able to play these settings?
I’d definitely recommend it for this game. Dynamic Tone Mapping could be useful in a really bright room, but otherwise the game looks fantastic using HGiG. Not dim at all.
I have an LG OLED CX running game on PS5 on balance mode and cap on. Also another good option is performance mode with cap on, game still looks great. I just prefer extra crisp with balance mode.
Should I make that adjustment to my HDR system setting for Xbox? I usually play on 4K I just want it to be effective all around and not just this game.
Hello, I have an Xbox Series X console and an LG OLED CX TV installed with the latest firmware updates. Today, I launched the Hogwarts Legacy game for the first time and was prompted to install the latest update. My TV settings are configured to use dynamic tone mapping set to HGiG with VRR enabled, and the input I use for the Xbox is set to PC mode. I also ran the HDR calibration on my Xbox. However, when I checked the image settings in the game, I noticed that the HDR white point was set to 9900 by default, which seems unusually high. Do you have any idea why this might be the case?
That is very strange but I have seen that happen. What happens if you revert to default settings on the Image Calibration screen? I can’t remember what button it is, but I recall that fixing a similar issue I had when I had hooked up my Series X to a different TV for testing and then moved it back to the LG C1. Let me know if that works for you. Otherwise you can dial those settings in manually.
I don't know why, but I only have two options: fidely and performance in my series s also saw that the game is like 77gb buy when I download it is only 52gb can you tell me why or is a bug ?
On the Series S, only the two modes are offered. Also, the Series X version also has an additional “high resolution texture pack” that can be downloaded which I believe is around 14-15GB, which is why that total size is 77GB. That isn’t required or even installable on the Series S from my understanding, so the install being only 52GB makes sense and isn’t a bug.
@@HomeTheaterGamer okay makes sense. I'm in the same boat as Jovan^. what would you recommend in this case then? Performance or Fidelity. Cap Frame Rate off or on? Ty in advance!
PS5 and LG G1 here. I have noticed that when i am playing at balanced mode, the colors range is changing from RGB to YCBR and the colors are not so colorfull like on performance. Is it possible to play the balanced mode at RGB range colors?
Unfortunately, that's a limitation of the PS5's HDMI 2.1 bandwidth. It can't do RGB and 120Hz together and drops down to YUV422. So there's not way to play the Balanced mode with RGB on the PS5.
@@HomeTheaterGamer Thank You! So i am playing and dont worry about it but i think that the spells animations have a better punch of colors with RGB in the performance mode that in balanced but balanced has better resolution:D I am going to play and dont think about it and dont smoke to much...

Fidelity mode on XBSX on a Samsung C1. It's smooth and looks great. I tried performance but I didn't really notice that much difference in FPS moving around.
Being that I have to wait till April I'm not sure how to set it. I don't have a 4k TV, and I'll be playing on PS4. I'd like some ideas of what I could so when I start.
It’s hard to kind of predict what will happen with the last-gen versions. We don’t even know if they’ll offer different performance modes at this point. I’m hoping that at least offer something like a Fidelity mode at 30fps and a Performance mode at 60fps, even if both are much lower resolution than what we have on the PS5 and Series X.
@@HomeTheaterGamer I appreciate the answer. I think it will run good on the system. I know the last gen titles are coming out late because the makers are making it compatible. I just thought I would ask.
@randomlyweirdjeff4638 no worries! I wish I had more information on the upcoming last gen versions, but I don't have the connections others do (I pay for the games I make videos on, no review codes currently).
Are you playing on a 60Hz monitor? If so, that's the culprit (Balanced and HFR Performance are only available on 120Hz displays). I'm thinking of possibly making a video about this topic and explaining why you actually DO NOT want those modes on a 60Hz display.
im using a lg c9 oled and when i switch it from performaance or fidelity to balanced my colours become washed out.. why does that happen since fidelity and performance have full rich colour. Im using a PS5
I’ve noticed that too , and looking at VRR info I found out that the game runs at full RGB 10 bit chroma 4:4:4 when you use fidelity or performance mode (but only with capped frame rate ), while it downsamples the chroma at 4:2:2 maybe 8 bit when you use balanced mode or hfr mode , so that’s may be with colors look more washed out and less rich
I think the best , and more stable modes are balanced and performance modes all with frame rate capped . Balanced is a good compromised , even if you lose something in term of color depth. The best graphic mode is fidelity , but especially on a oled tv , 30 fps make the stuttering more evident to me. Look at your hdr settings also, put the hdr black at 0 there and set the ps5 internal hdr calibration right. I guess everyone has black raise in some areas, it’s the game itself, because with the same settings in other areas the black is perfect, even too dark at some point .
Maybe performance is the best one, in term of resolution is 1440p and 60 fps stable, yea some detail are blurry , but you should get full rgb color range with no compression and 10 bit depth
On your hdr brightness at 25 the blacks don't look good and your seeing way to many object as the brightness is to high you should maybe tone this down to give the blacks more detail hiding some of the object as that would give the realistic feel of darkness in a room like it would in real life.
Interesting. Most people are recommending to boost this setting up to 28-35. I’ll have to drop it down to see what it looks like, but there have been times at 25 when the game is really, really dark. For me 25 looks fine and definitely doesn’t seem too high. I think the game uses a lot of haze/fog indoors which do give it a brighter look.
@Home Theater Gamer just to confirm what the op is saying I have a q90a and if I left it at 25 the image was super washed out because of horrible black level raise. I had to drop it to 15 to get the correct black levels and make it look fantastic.
Heyo! I’m playing on series X performance mode….every time I rotate the camera their’s ghosting or double image? on my character….this happening to anyone else?
Really wish you had spent a little time on Fidelity and Fidelity with RT. I get ghosting and blur with all the other modes. But I can’t even get Fidelity with RT to even work.
The game doesn't support Dolby Vision natively, so all you're getting is HDR10 in a Dolby Vision "container" as is the case with most games on the Series X. I noticed zero difference in the HDR picture during my limited time testing between the two.
In order to keep the length of the video down, I only briefly mentioned it because it inevitably always comes up in the comment section of these types of videos I do. It’s unfortunately not easy enough to explain in detail in a video like this.
It won't mess up the TV, so don't worry about that, but it won't give you the best HDR experience with Hogwarts Legacy. Which model OLED from LG do you have? Under the HDR settings for the LG, you may have an option for "HGiG." Try turning that on and then re-doing the HDR system level calibration on the PS5 or Series X. The in-game settings should reflect the proper numbers now, though if you have the game open you may have to quit and then restart the game for those numbers to update.
The image quality in Fidelity mode is the sharpest of the bunch, but it also runs the worst out of all the performance modes (except for Fidelity with Raytracing). It's the only mode that I've noticed dips below 30FPS, which is why I don't recommend it. Balanced is a great option if you're display supports 120Hz and retains most of the sharpness and detail from Fidelity mode.
Ah yea, the HDMI port will do it! Glad you got it figured out and hope you enjoy your new Sony! I still wish that all ports were 4K/120Hz on Sony’s new displays (and other new displays as well). No reason not to. It’s 2023!
@@HomeTheaterGamer totally agree with you. Btw it’s Amazing. Waiting 2 years but it’s totally worth it. and thanks For ur video su make such a great job!!
@Home Theater Gamer a Vizio MQ7. Not the best TV (but quite good in my opinion), and if I'm not mistaken, it should have a peak brightness of around 600 to 700 nits. But when I put the white point to that, it looks really bad compared to the default 9400.
@joshuajohnson7915 If it's anything like the 2021 Vizio PQX display I used to have, there should be a setting labeled "GAME HDR" somewhere in the menus (gaming engine menu maybe?). If you can find it, try turning that on and then re-doing the system level calibration on the PS5 or Series X. That should have the resulting in-game HDR brightness at or around the correct value. The reason it's so high right now is that the Vizio is taking the HDR signal and trying to convert it to the displays capabilities (HDR tone mapping). GAME HDR is Vizio's setting that basically turns off HDR tone mapping on the display and lets the console handle it.
@Home Theater Gamer Thanks, I believe that worked. Even though, when going through the Xbox Series X's HDR calibration again, I couldn't see the checkerboard at all, even on the lowest setting for the brightness. But now the game is at 500 instead of 9400, and it definitely looks better.
After some further testing myself, when the Series X is set to 60Hz output mode only 3 modes are available like you both said. That honestly makes sense since the BALANCED mode is 40fps (not recommend on a 60Hz display) and the HFR PERFORMANCE MODE target 120fps. Neither of those modes would really add much on a 60Hz display if I’m being honest. The Balanced Mode would look like a stuttery mess as would the HFR Performance mode.
No, the first calibration screen you darken it till you can just make out the dark squares. This helps to make out objects in dark areas. Don't adjust till they disappear. If you press left, right triggers and RB and LB at the same time, settings will show up in the right top corner of the screen to setup to the manufacturers TV settings.
Incorrect. This has been confirmed by many other sources (HDTV Test is the most credible source for this). The first pattern should be set as low as possible or all the way to the left on pretty much every display. Pressing those buttons as you suggest and looking at the numbers, that first number should always be 0.000.
Yeah, sorry. I should have explained that better. What’s crazy is if you’re setting this up on either the Series X|S or the PS5, neither actually have you set it up completely correct. If you follow the instructions on the XBOX, you’ll end up with raised black levels (noticeable on a OLED screen, may be less noticeable on an LED screen) but if you set it up by the instructions on the PS5, you actually end up limiting the maximum peak brightness of your display. I wish it was correct on both.
Are you on PC? Because that’s definitely not possible on either console. No mode on the consoles hit 120 (HFR Performance does occasionally but not often).
Are you on the Series X? If your TV doesn’t support 120Hz (and/or the output of the console is set to 60Hz), then that’s why. Balanced and HFR Performance mode are only available on 120Hz compatible displays.
I found it! Fidelity mode with '60fps' for the samsung qled tv. Turn off VRR in ps5 menu. Turn on Samsung motion plus and slider (60fpsgames) on 10 Set game delay on 'fast" samsung game hub. Ingame menu: Set Fidelity Cap framerate ON!! Off will stutter. Motion blur preferenre both plays well. Motion blur off of course even more towards performance look Enjoy. No side effects (ghosting or stutter) The reason to setting VRR off is because VRR and Samsung motion plus don't work together. Even fidelity with RT is playable. And performance mode (without motion blur) is like 120 fps. Caps on. Blur off.
The HFR Performance mode is a dynamic 1080P from my understanding but it seems like it spends most of the time below that. I also sit around 7 feet away from my 77 inch OLED which makes that drop to 1080P or below all the more apparent. But that's really besides the point which is the HFR Performance mode has the lowest overall resolution and graphical presentation of the bunch.
cromartic aberration and stuff impacts gpu performance big time:) you don’t know what you’re talking about:) it even said so on the screen behind your back:)
None of these settings impact GPU performance “big time,” which is why I said what I said regardless of what the screen behind me mentioned. I’ve tested them in every mode, and turning them off literally gives you identical performance vs. having them all on. On PC, maybe the gap will be bigger, but for all intents and purposes, these settings on the XBOX Series X version currently have little to no impact on framerates. But hey, I don’t know what I’m talking about. For reference, the only two options that mention that it impacts performance are motion blur and depth of field. Chromatic abberation and film grain don’t say anything about GPU impact.
Honestly, fidelity mode with ray tracing is the way to go because you can unlock the frame rate. Usually sits between 70 to 120 and with VRR it's not a problem which in half is still higher then 30
Both modes are still unfortunately lower FPS than the Balanced mode. The motion judder on an OLED, even with the frame rate cap off, is noticeable in both Fidelity modes where it pretty much goes away when switching to Balanced. There are moments in the ray tracing mode in particular where the game has been documented to drop below 20fps in certain areas on both consoles, so that’s something to keep in mind as well.
Unfortunately it’s hard to tell and sometimes impossible to tell on console due to no in-game FPS counter (like on PC). It will also triple the number sometimes if it gets too low (typically when in the 30fps region), so if you see it in the 90s or 100s in Fidelity mode or Fidelity mode with ray-tracing, then more than likely you’re still in the 30s.

I've got a LG Ultragear 27", VRR enabled + max monitor performance settings, but I am not seeing any Balanced settings, is there a solution or am I just not going to be able to play these settings?
New subscriber, love the channel. What about HGIG?
I’d definitely recommend it for this game. Dynamic Tone Mapping could be useful in a really bright room, but otherwise the game looks fantastic using HGiG. Not dim at all.
@@HomeTheaterGamer thanks
Should I put cap frame rate on or off ?? I’m on PS5 and LG Oled. Thanks !
I have an LG OLED CX running game on PS5 on balance mode and cap on. Also another good option is performance mode with cap on, game still looks great. I just prefer extra crisp with balance mode.
Im playing on the ps5 and can use all the modes but fidelity rt mode with cap off looks very good and smooth especcialy with vrr
I have a 2020 LG cx OLED. It has VRR but the game runs like dog water with the cap off on RT mode
What mode is best for LG C2 OLED?
Should I make that adjustment to my HDR system setting for Xbox? I usually play on 4K I just want it to be effective all around and not just this game.
I would recommend making that HDR adjustment, just keep in mind that not all games support the HDR system setting.
In performance mode does it get close to 4 k resolution ?
@@HomeTheaterGamer Thanks for getting back to me. I recalibrated the HDR again, and now it defaults to 800. Cheers!
Surprisingly on my 2k monitor, its running smoother and more crisp at fidelity.
when u compare with ps5, which platform looks sharp , vibrant ?
Do u have any idea?
They look the same
Why I don’t have performance mode option on the ps5?
I don't know why, but I only have two options: fidely and performance in my series s also saw that the game is like 77gb buy when I download it is only 52gb can you tell me why or is a bug ?
On the Series S, only the two modes are offered. Also, the Series X version also has an additional “high resolution texture pack” that can be downloaded which I believe is around 14-15GB, which is why that total size is 77GB. That isn’t required or even installable on the Series S from my understanding, so the install being only 52GB makes sense and isn’t a bug.
first time seeing your page, great video you get a sub from me
Thank you so much and glad you stopped by!
Performance gives me 120 FPS. Why are you saying 60? 60 is what I get when I do fidelity with ray tracing
I dont have Balanced mode for some reaseon, only have Fidelity, FIdelity with Raytracing and Performance mode :/
Unfortunately the Balanced and HFR Performance modes are only available on 120Hz capable displays.
DTS:X is my preferred audio codec to use for gaming. To my ears it seems better. Love that Xbox has the option to use Dolby or DTS:X. HOWEVER if you have it, Auro 3D tends to work so much better for games that dont have Dolby native. Its what I use for PS5 and Switch gaming.
Agreed. I'm a DTS:X guy myself. Just upgraded my avr and discovered it had auro 3d. I think it's fantastic. Ive been using it for a few weeks and this might be my new favorite.
@@sovereign257 the beauty of Auro 3D is that it works for anything ! Even music, but especially for those movies with only bedlayer surround (5.1 or 7.1). It shines !
@gamegenieny581 I just want to say that seeing your profile picture brings me way back. I often miss those days when Game Genie (and GameShark haha) was a thing and I had to wait to get my codes in GamePro magazine.

Fidelity mode on XBSX on a Samsung C1. It's smooth and looks great. I tried performance but I didn't really notice that much difference in FPS moving around.
Great work
Thank you so much 😀
Being that I have to wait till April I'm not sure how to set it.
@@HomeTheaterGamer Hey bro I understand. I like the channel, thanks a lot I appreciate it.
How about RT mode with uncapped frame rate
Playing on monitor and I don’t have the last two options/ Balanced and hdr performance, not to sure why
Are you playing on a 60Hz monitor? If so, that's the culprit (Balanced and HFR Performance are only available on 120Hz displays). I'm thinking of possibly making a video about this topic and explaining why you actually DO NOT want those modes on a 60Hz display.
I don't have the hdr settings on my xbox series s
Im the only one with insane black level raise if a ctuscene starts or you open a door and all the stuff loads in ? It got so bad i had to turn off hdr
im using a lg c9 oled and when i switch it from performaance or fidelity to balanced my colours become washed out.. why does that happen since fidelity and performance have full rich colour.
I’m playing on ps5 too on a LG C2 oled tv
@@petruxthebest which mode do you use, and also what do you set as your black level settings and rgb settings on ps5
I had to drop it to 15 to get the correct black levels and make it look fantastic.
good materials thanks i have problem in xbox series s ;] hogwarts legacy
Heyo! I’m playing on series X performance mode….every time I rotate the camera their’s ghosting or double image? on my character….this happening to anyone else?
I’ve noticed it too. More than likely a bi-product of the upscaling the game is doing (it’s around 1440p upscaled to 4K in performance mode).
What abt a 240hz 4k monitor
Really wish you had spent a little time on Fidelity and Fidelity with RT. I get ghosting and blur with all the other modes. But I can’t even get Fidelity with RT to even work.
Got to your ps5 game settings and put default where it says if you rather play with perfomance or fidelity in games
@@TheMETALICA40 thank you. Found it on a video yesterday. Would have never found it myself.
Dolby Vision game mode or HDR 10?
The game doesn't support Dolby Vision natively, so all you're getting is HDR10 in a Dolby Vision "container" as is the case with most games on the Series X. I noticed zero difference in the HDR picture during my limited time testing between the two.
anyone know the nits for like a 3-4 year old vizio 4k tv?
Don’t understand the half frame rate thing how is the average user supposed to know that
In order to keep the length of the video down, I only briefly mentioned it because it inevitably always comes up in the comment section of these types of videos I do. It’s unfortunately not easy enough to explain in detail in a video like this.
So I have a LG Oled and the default calibration for the HDR white point is 3900 vs 800 is this going to mess up my TV? Thanks for the video 1:28
@@HomeTheaterGamer I'll have to check that out. The TV is a LG - 65" Class CX Series OLED 4K UHD Smart webOS TV
Still don’t get why fidelity isn’t better. There are more things in the environment to link at.
My hdr white point id on 3900 and lol why is that
How to uncap frame rate on the performance mode? Mine’s got the frame rate locked

Hey, the game defaults my HDR White Point at 9400, should I leave it at that?
What display are you using?
Rtx 4080 and Lg c2 OLED. Can’t get hdr to work. Is just off and not able to turn on.
Set HDR on in windows first then load the game. I had to do that first before the game recognized the monitor could do HDR.
Why does my Samsung s95b say about 6000 nits even when i calibrate it correctly on ps5?
Just samsung being samsung. Find out what its rated for and set it close to that and call it a day.
I would've liked to see a comparison between fidelity and fidelity with RT. I follow GamingTech as well and he didn't test that mode either.
I've been going with fidelity with Ray tracing and frame rate cap on, on ps5 and I really like it so far.

Is your Series X set to 60Hz output in the system settings?
@@HomeTheaterGamer same I only have 3 options too and mine set to 60hz
After some further testing myself, when the Series X is set to 60Hz output mode only 3 modes are available like you both said. That honestly makes sense since the BALANCED mode is 40fps (not recommend on a 60Hz display) and the HFR PERFORMANCE MODE target 120fps. Neither of those modes would really add much on a 60Hz display if I’m being honest. The Balanced Mode would look like a stuttery mess as would the HFR Performance mode.
@@HomeTheaterGamer thank you🙌🏼
@@HomeTheaterGamer Thank you for testing and clarifying this! Makes complete sense.
@@HomeTheaterGamer well it does say, 'till you can barely make out the chequered board patten'.
@@HomeTheaterGamer It is hard to get it just right. I wish the Xbox series X, playstation 5 could set the HDR automatically by reading the TV we use

I found it! Fidelity mode with '60fps' for the samsung qled tv.
Turn off VRR in ps5 menu.
Turn on Samsung motion plus and slider (60fpsgames) on 10
Set game delay on 'fast" samsung game hub.
Ingame menu:
Set
Fidelity
Cap framerate ON!! Off will stutter.
Motion blur preferenre both plays well. Motion blur off of course even more towards performance look
Enjoy. No side effects (ghosting or stutter)
The reason to setting VRR off is because VRR and Samsung motion plus don't work together.
Even fidelity with RT is playable.
And performance mode (without motion blur) is like 120 fps.
Caps on. Blur off.
That's why you need a LG or Sony OLED for gaming 😁
Is it a steady 120fps?
Yes its steady. Use performance mode with Samsung Game plus. Turn off motion blur but keep caps ON
Using motion interpolation on a tv is not 60 frames per second but you do you buddy.
@@gamenation93 I said '60 fps' with samsung plus game on the eye similar 60 maybe 80. Try first.
Ehhh HFR is my favourite and it looks great on my lg oled. Maybe it’s your settings on your tv …
The HFR Performance mode is a dynamic 1080P from my understanding but it seems like it spends most of the time below that. I also sit around 7 feet away from my 77 inch OLED which makes that drop to 1080P or below all the more apparent. But that's really besides the point which is the HFR Performance mode has the lowest overall resolution and graphical presentation of the bunch.
so much ghosting on ps5 performance modes
My hdr slider can not get 800 it's 798 ore 806 grrr
I don’t think you have anything to worry about. It’s so close that you shouldn’t notice a difference.
cromartic aberration and stuff impacts gpu performance big time:) you don’t know what you’re talking about:) it even said so on the screen behind your back:)
That's if you have PS5 you can do F.R.T. mode it's all must lock at 30fps.
How do you know when it's doubling and when it's not
Unfortunately it’s hard to tell and sometimes impossible to tell on console due to no in-game FPS counter (like on PC). It will also triple the number sometimes if it gets too low (typically when in the 30fps region), so if you see it in the 90s or 100s in Fidelity mode or Fidelity mode with ray-tracing, then more than likely you’re still in the 30s.
