  • The Twin was one of the last new drive-ins built in the Kansas City Area. It was part of a chain of drive-ins built in the late 60's and early 70's. That include the North Twin, South Twin and the State, But each of these drive-ins featured the same distinct marquee and were considered very modern for their time. There used to be a playground next to the snack bar, But it was removed in 2002

    I'm 37 I grew up going to the Twin, As the years have past my children have grown to love the Twin. My heart sunk when I was told that they were going to close last year. I was so relived to see that it is still there this year. I hope that one day my grandchildren will have the chance to enjoy what we all love so much.

    @driveinights thankyou for answering my post. I remember the old Riverside drive in I saw Escape from New York there and the North twin was where I went with our neighbor when thier 1972 Ford truck was brand new. There was also the riverside race way by the Red X the only thing left now is the Red X I live in Tempe AZ now and went to KC last year and the Red X isnt the same either

    I have a lot of fond memories of the North Twin Drive-In in Riverside. I miss those days :-)

    @RQVOutdoorMoovies This one is just called the Twin. The North and South each had a Small Neon sign attached above the Twin sign. The State's marquee was identical except for the word state in the same style of neon letters. There used to be an intermission bumper that showed footage of the North Twin when it was brand new. But I havent seen it in years and it doesnt appear to be on the Internet.

    Yeah I love videomix22's videos. The last movie I saw at the North Twin was Star Trek The Motion Picture. It was 81 or 82. You probably remember they used to rerelease movies every couple of years back then. I saw a lot of movies at the Riverside as well. I remember that the intermission that they used to show at the Drive ins owned by MidAmerica cinemas showed footage of the north twin when it was brand new. Google earth has overhead photos of the North.

    who remembers the old twin drive in that was in Riverside?

  • @driveinights
    @driveinights  13 лет назад +1

    @sunrise1776 There were two drive ins in Riverside. One was called the Riverside and also there was the north twin, which was virtually identical to the drive in in this video except that it was situated down in a gully surrounded by woods. I saw Star Trek the motion picture there. I saw a lot of movies at the riverside.

    @jusrobbi You're very welcomed. I hope you get the chance to go again, these last few Drive ins need all the business they can get. Even if todays movies arent up to par, thats whats so great about the DIs, you can still enjoy the company of family,friends or that special someone, under the stars.

    @sunrise1776 I remember the race way. I havent been to the Red X in years. There was a flood in 93. I think it ruined a lot of stuff at the Red X. We still have three drive ins in the KC area. I visit them every chance I get. Took the kids to see Kung Fu Panda and Green Lantern last night. It was fun, but not like the old days.

    Thanks to the digital revolution, this will be the last year that the Twin and I70 will be opened. A friend of mine is trying to start a fund raiser to help them buy new projection equipment, but the odds are against it. I urge all fans to visit theses theaters while they still can.

    I'm not sure. It was before 1984 for sure, because I went to the drive in with my wife in 1984 and we had to drive to the drive-in on Hwy 291. I sure would like to find someone with some pictures of the North Twin. It would be fun do use a pic from there to do something like the video "Drive in intermission films" by videomix22 (sorry, tried to post the link here, but didn't work)

    I used a flip video camera to film this. The music was one of four or five choices you could use in the editing software for flip. I dont remember the name, but I could check.

    Do they still have the Face/Off poster in the lobby? They still had it in 2002 I think.
    I'd love to go there and see films like The Outsiders, Creepshow, Eddie and the Cruisers, Road House, Meatballs, Frogs (with Sam Elliott), Blue Thunder, Arlington Road, Porky's. Does anyone know if Rocky Horror works at the drive-in? I know they do all that audience participation stuff but curious if it works as well with the fans further apart like that.

      I think they changed the poster finally, but I'm not sure. B&B Theaters just bought the Twin and the I70. They have installed brand new digital projectors and now you can pay for your tickets and concessions with debit or credit cards. No more cash only.

      driveinights Have they improved the speakers? We usually just relied on our car speakers because they seemed blown. Oh and I've always hoped those things are waterproof!

    • @driveinights
      @driveinights  10 лет назад

      Kevin P I have heard that they are trying to repair or replace some of the speakers. I hope that they do, because it's usually too hot to sit in the car in the summer. The boulevard drive in in KCK has all of it's speakers still working and a DTS transmitter that supossedly provides better in car sound, although I'm sure that depends greatly on the quality of your car stereo. They also have a sitting area in front of the snackbar with speakers.
