For all of you that grew up in or near Raytown Missouri in the 60's and 70's. A trip down memory lane. Most all of the places you see on this video were well loved and are relics of the past.
It was a fun little project of love. My boys think I'm ancient when I tell them there is more to life than video games. I thought this video would be a good way to show them that there is a world out there. When we were their age we created our fun. And each of the places in the video have special memories to me. Raytown is a great example of small town America and the pride of things that used to be. I picked up and downloaded pictures over the years - just as a way to stay connected. I left Raytown in 1976 but I feel that we lived in a wonderful place. The video is my personal recollections and places I remember.
WOW!!! Thank YOU for the video Mark!!! I've been trying to find a picture of Wild Woodie's forever!!! There are a lot of things in this video that I remember clear as day, but haven't seen since the 70's or 80's. Sadly, most of these wonderful places are long gone.
I was scanning through the comments to see if anyone mentioned 'Mama's Family' of the Carol Burnett Show that was set in Raytown. I did see the Woolworth store where Eunice worked in the "Eunice" teleplay movie, LOL.
Most enjoyable to watch! Great choice in songs too. Mel McCrary, probably the best self taught guitarist around, shared this with me. So glad he did. Glad you included Cool Crest, too, as my parents built Cool Crest. It is nothing like it used to be now that it's sold three times since we sold it. Great job Mark.
As someone who has only been in Raytown since the 90's (23 years old, born and raised in Raytown) I really appreciated this video! Very interesting to see some of the things I never got to experience and some I did. A lot of the comments sound more than just nostalgic but rather actually down on Raytown and I have to just say that Raytown's reputation is way worse than Raytown actually is. I Love it here, and I love what's happening finally with places like the "Raytown Plaza" I believe things are on the upswing and to me that's very exciting!

Great video Mark and so many memories... Made me cry seeing the Milgrams logo, as my dad worked there from when he was 16 until they closed them all up.....
That is the way I TRUELY remember it! When I moved back I was Disappointed to find it so different! Such is life. Thanks so much for making this and sharing! 🌞
Wow a lot of familiar scenes for sure. My Dad was a Lt Col on KCPD and we lived just off Sni-a-bar so it was still a KC address. The helicopter and K9 unit were close by and he was over those as well. We were back this summer and the area up the hill from the Natl Guard Armory was in rough shape. I recall going to that pool there and it was a mess. Think it was a Safeway across the street for many years but that building was small for a grocery. Drove by St Bernadettes, it was long gone and looked rough as well. Had some police friends who kids went there. So many houses in decline and certainly showing their age. In the mid 70s I recall going to the strip mall, can't remember what they called it, down on Sni-a-bar towards Blue Ridge C/O. It had a 5 and dime type place and a few other shops but had a fast-food restaurant at the far end. At least as a kid anyway, I thought it was decent. Good times
This is AWESOME! I grew up in Independence, not Raytown, but close enough. I just wanted to climb into the video and go back in time. It was the best and you captured it perfectly!
Right there at 50 Hwy and Raytown Rd (75th St) and just up the little hill from Smaks. Softball teams would go to Zarda's for ice cream cones after the games (double dips).
Love these old photos of Raytown. Im only 20 but lived off 47th next to the Blue Vue Shopping Center my whole life, very cool to see these old photos, makes me wish I was around back then! Miss the old Blue Ridge Mall, used to go all the time as a young kid, although it was pretty empty by then!
My first job was at Mugs Up Root Beer in 1975. At that time, it was called "Dick's Root Beer", and we made our own root beer and had girls on rollerskates serve the frosty mugs and other goodies in the parking lot. We had to get up on the roof about once a month to reclaim the mugs a bunch of people threw up there! I also remember my 10th birthday party at Smaks...the smoked hickory burgers. Sure miss those days!
Mark Great Video. This brings back a lot of memories. Where did you get all the old shots. Were still here trying to keep a little bit of old days going. Everything has changed except where to get the best pizza in KC. Thanks Mark
Born and raised in Raytown. My best firend lived in Wilwood Lakes. Sandy Plaskett Gifford. I grew up there in the 50's. My folks lived there from 1943-1977

Mom used to load up the freezer with frozen shakes and burgers from Smaks. I think the burgers must've cost about 25 cents or so.
I grew up in this place. Had great family, friends, safety it really was a good place to be...my parents and other family members are permanently planted there a lot of good living, good people that I loved reside now in Floral Hills and Mount Olivet.

So many memories, this video gave me the chills. Grew up in 60's Lee's Summit and spent so much time in Raytown. Living in Florida since 1976, I didn't realize so many memories I left behind. Thank you.
Raytown was a fun place to grow up that's for sure. We lived on Wildwood Lake from 73-76. The lake would freeze and we'd play hockey for weeks. Lakes barely freeze any more. Raytown HS '77.
Not from the KC area but grew up in Southern Iowa hard on the Mo border and listened to 710 WHB radio every day. Took school trips to Swope Park and Royals games. Good memories.

Would be fun to see a picture of the old Zarda Dairy. My memory is vague but it was somewhere around Raytown Road and 50 Highway, near 63rd Street.

Still a Mug’s Up Root beer in Independence. Most of this area isn’t safe anymore. Very sad. Kirnoodles??
I worked at TG&Y in 1970 and later that same year Household Finance. Many times our family went to that Drive in when we were small.
