  • The I-70 was originally a single screen Drive-in. There was a playground under the screen tower. It was removed in the late 80s. 3 new screens were added in the early 90s.

I love this video! I got a chance to go there back on June 6th this year and I loved it! I even got to buy two speakers from them. The guy working at the snack bar on his phone is the guy who sold them to me. I really am glad you posted this. It really makes me happy to see this place again. I really wish I lived closer.

This was a beautiful Drive-In! How anyone could tear down this place absolutely baffles me. So, so sad .............

As much as I enjoy filming abandoned drive ins, it's nice to see one that still works!

Lived in KC for 5 years and this was my go to. I remember even bootlegging Star Wars: Attack of the Clones because George Lucas wouldn't allow his movie to be shown at drive-ins. This was heaven for a single parent of a 3 year old who wouldn't sit in a theater. Thanks for sharing.

I think the I-70 used to have heaters at one time. I noticed that some poles had extra electrical boxes attached to them and others had cut wires sticking out of the ground next to the poles. The place opened in 64 so it is possible. Glad they are open that late though. I have something I am going to send them for being so helpful with my speakers and I want to make sure they are open when they get it.

@RQVOutdoorMoovies We are going to the boulevard tonight. It is the oldest continually operating theater in the area. It was updated with DTS digital sound about ten years ago. It has endured almost yearly flooding. But its still going strong. I will post the video some time tomorrow. Flip deserves most of the credit. it makes editing and posting a cinch.

I just saw that they recently closed for the season. I hope to go back when they open back up. Also hope to get the speaker pole stand built and maybe I can show them what I did with them.

With today's technology nowadays, HDTVs can be as large as 200 inches. Maybe in the next decade, they may be as large as these drive-in movie screens without the projectors. Imagine plugging in a game console or desktop and play them outside while thousands of people watch.

I70 opened a couple of weeks ago. The weather is going to be great for the drive in tonight.

@TetrisPlayer It usually stays open until late October. A few years ago they had it opened through the winter. But I guess they didnt get the buisness they were hoping for. In the old days, many drive ins had electric heaters attached to the speaker poles. I remember watching The Poseiden Adventure as a kid at either the State or the lake park. And there was snow on the ground.

Thanks to the digital revolution, I have heard that this may be the last year that I70 and the Twin are opened. A friend of mine is trying to raise awareness and start a fund raiser to buy new projection equipment but the odds aren't 'in its favor. I urge all fans to visit these theaters while they still can.

@RQVOutdoorMoovies My advice, if you do buy a flip. Spend a few extra bucks and get the HD version. The standard one doesnt have much of a zoom. Catch ya later man!

You really need to replace the urinals in the men's restroom with Sloan waterless urinals. The Sloan waterless urinals smell 100% cleaner and you don't flush so they save a lot more water.
If you want to see it in action go to the Johnson county library in Leawood Ks on Roe ave before 117th street
