  • After using my Nilight LED pod lights on the Jeep for over 1 year I am posting an update to my review from 2016. When I recorded the Nilight review back then I had not used the LED pods much but now over a year later they've been used a LOT. In this review I give you an update on how much I still like them and what issues I have run into with them.
    You can check the current prices for the set of 4 NiLight LED pods on Amazon with this link: amzn.to/2Hkic2R

    The best reviews are the ones that are X amount of years later when the products are actually being used to test real world durability. Much OBLIGED >:0

    I know this is an old video I stumbled across but I have been using Nilight lights on my rigs for awhile and really like them. My first one cracked the lens from rocks getting thrown up on them so I have starting putting a layer of clear gorilla tape over the lens to better protect them. I agree they are an amazing value!

    I bought them as a disposable light. Several years later none have failed me yet. One got hit hard and chipped out case and that one still works. Wont cry when one does fail I'll just replace it. At the price I buy them for no tears will be shed.

    I have a pair of Nilight 4 X 2 and I am very happy with them. They haven't faded, no chip failures and the light output is great. I'm so happy with them that I just bought a 20" light bar. I'm hoping for the same performance from it.

    I feel that unless you’re doing life-or-death off-road work... think back woods EMS or something similar in the middle of a dark continent... these Nilight’s are about the best bang for buck. I’ve had several; a 32” 180w bar, some 27w rounds, a 12” bar and I don’t know how many sets of these 18w 4” pods. On Tacomas and tractors and 4x4s and a lawn mower. Only issue is a couple diodes died on the 32”... that was 2 years ago and it’s still working fine on my truck (sans the two dead bulbs). I caulk the seams with silicone and have had only one get some fogging and, again, it’s been a couple years and it still works.
    The bars that cost hundred$ more are usually a little brighter and perhaps a little more rugged, but for most off-road utility use the Nilights get the job done. Especially these awesome 4” pods. Don’t underestimate what a couple sets of those can give you for light.

    Using the same ones + another set for them. The main reason I got these lights because of the cost. I have two ditch lights, some in rear bumper for reverse lights and on a switch and a light bar on rack. If all three got stolen I would be out less than 150 dollars. If there weren't thieves out there, I probably would have gotten something a bit pricier but to be honest, I have 0 complaints.

    I purchased 4 of them right after I watched your original review . I put 2 on my jeep and 2 on my truck . The first time I washed my truck with them on , moisture got inside of one of them and its still there , but it still works fine . No problems with the other 3 . I would still buy them again .

    I have a 30" bar on my F250 and it is still as good as the day I installed it, 3 years ago. Amazing light distribution, use mine primarily for sighting of animals at 0500 in the way in to work.
    Set it (them) up on an independent switch!!! Don't be a turd and blind other drivers, because they will do so.

    Are they legal for fog lights on the bumper of my truck?

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  5 лет назад

      The laws vary from state to state. You will have to research what the law says for your particular state.

    • @astang1072
      @astang1072 4 года назад +2

      I know this was several months ago, but as an example: in Maine the law states aftermarket installed fog lights have to be mounted below headlights and can’t be brighter than the headlights (I think a 55w limit or something). Also the law says aftermarket fog lights must dim with the high beams. So I have two of these same 18w spot lights on my bumper wired right into my high beams, and into a switch so I can run just my high beams. On my gen 1 Tacoma they really help the night driving.

    I am thinking about getting these lights for my Adv touring motorcycle. I was initially thinking about getting the 60W model, but then I wasn't sure if my alternator would be able to supply enough power even at low RPMs, so now I am thinking about the 18W. My question is this - will I be missing out on anything, if i went for the 18W, instead of the 60W? Thanks much & Cheers! :)

    • @TheNotaRubicon
      @TheNotaRubicon  4 года назад +1

      The 18W LEDS are VERY bright! We think they'll do fine.

    • @nigelwolfe6150
      @nigelwolfe6150 2 года назад

      WARNING re advertised wattage on Amazon etc....MOST times for cheap lights if they mention wattage it will be "equivalent light compared to non LED" and even worse than that the number will be for ALL the pods in the advertised deal NOT per unit! In other words if they say "60watt" and it is really cheap? You will be sorely dissapointed if you are expecting actual 60 watt pods....likely per light it will be a tiny fraction of that and their excuse will be playing dumb but OF COURSE they knew exactly what they were doing....read the questions and answers but even that can be very wrong as it mostly other customers or shills answering.....very frustrating

    I just picked up a set of these and agree that they feel good in the hand. Nice and heavy aluminum with a real glass lens that seems to have a good seal behind it. I will note that though they are advertised as being 18 watts, in reality they measure only 12. For the price though, I will still be ordering more of these for various projects.
