This is such a powerful movie, and it's one of De Niro's all time best performances. The scene where Leonard watches Paula walk away gets is so sad, it's as if he's watching his hopes and dreams walk away, I cry every time.
Thanks, Mado! 🧠 This is one of my favorites. I'm so glad you appreciate it, too. 🔸 Not many young people would notice, but the actor who played 'Nurse Eleanor' is Julie Kavner. She's best known as the voice of 'Marge' in THE SIMPSONS tv series. I first grew to love her in the tv series RHODA (1974 through 1978) in which she played the lead character's sister 'Brenda'.
Such a great movie, so inspiring yet so depressing. On a lighter note, the actress who plays the nurse also does the voice of Marge Simpson on the The Simpsons, you can recognize it immediately in her voice
I think you told me the you live in Lebanon, did you have to deal with patients from the explosion in Beirut? You also need to watch Dead Poets Society; it will make you cry also, and Robin Williams is in that too.
the events of this movie are real and based off a book written by robin williams' character. The encephalitis lethargica outbreak happened alongside the Spanish Flu epidemic of 1918, one of the most terrifying disease outbreaks of the modern time. It was said it could kill you in a single day. For a long time this disease was mistaken as a side effect some had from surviving the spanish flu before being classified as its own disease. The L-dopa experiments brought these poor people back from their locked-in symptoms for a short time. They quickly began getting used to the drug and needed more. Eventually their locked-in symptoms began returning and the all went back to the way they were without exception. This doctor kept trying and some were revived for short periods of time after the L-dopa experiments but it never took. We currently still don't know much about how the disease operates, we've yet to have another outbreak of this disease in the numbers of the spanish flu era outbreak.
THAT WAS DEPRESSING, it’s been a while since I cried like this…

You NEED to read „Awakenings“ and other books written by Oliver Sacks who is portrayed by Robin Williams in this movie 💚
Just finished watching your reaction to this powerfully emotional and inspirational film. It was great

Last comment this movie is sad but very hopeful for we can change and we can help others even if for a moment.
If Lucy is looking out the window that answers his earlier question. Her mind is still operating.
Its ok to smile 😃 at things that are funny hospitals like this used to be sad an miserable most now try to be happy and comforting.
Please react to "Scent of a Woman". DeNiro is beyond legend!
