Today we learn how to start a city by building out roads, services and zoning, finishing with a little detailing and giving ourselves a solid start and which one can expand in multiple directions. I'm not sure what I enjoy more, trying to play this game, or watching video's of people who actually know what they're doing play it.
I like to do both. Play the game whilst simultaneously watching people who know how to play it. The putting my own artistic spin on their ideas.
@@psyseraphim ong but i just build stuff that makes citizens mad because its kinds funny seeing them go mad😂
Dude I’m the same I enjoy learning how to play more then I enjoy playing haha
Just try to play it and if it goes rubichs u can make it easier whit unlimited money and suchs en take some time its kind of like space engineers u need to put some time in it to make it fun
😂😂 ditto 🙌🏽🙌🏽
As an older person getting interested in Cities Skyline, this guide as fantastic. The amount of content from OE is mind boggling and there is lots to learn for an old timer like me. Keep up the good work OE and thank you for the great content. Looking forward to more of it soon.
Thanks for watching bro 👍😌
I'm heading into my 5th decade as a gamer. Started with Pong in the 70's and it just keeps getting better. Cheers!
@@rcrhinehart66 I had an Atari too. #OGGamers
Soo by chance why is it a picle rick pfp
@@rcrhinehart66 Commodore 64 ftw! 😂
I propose we call the interchange @ 14:10 the Uterus Interchange
Yes
thort that myself when i saw it lol
Thank you so much for this guide, I've been playing for a few hours and I didn't know some things as simple as "Right clicking when upgrading one-way roads changes the direction.'
I think we all forget how difficult this game can be for a beginner and your videos helped me tremendously when I started a couple of years ago. Great work as always, Egg.
Very well planned out beginner guide, didn't miss a beat. Love how you stuck with just the base game with this first episode as not everyone has access to DLCs. This could be someone's introduction to the Eggverse and boy are they in for treat. 🍿
Glad you enjoyed it! Thank you for the kind words mate
3:18 that moment of struggle before he gives in
I said 'nice' for him, then laughed when he gave in and said it himself 🤣
Yay a vanilla series! I love the modded series but as a really casual player of cities (I play 8 hours non-stop a day then don't play for 6 months) I need tutorials because anytime I want to start playing there is a shit ton of new stuff added to the game. xD
Also, I can say that I have definitely had times when starting a new city where the residential did not spawn in time. The solution to this is to simply zone one 4x4 area immediately next to the power line. Once that grows, then you can zone out the rest and be fine
Amazing timing, I just got all the DLCs on sale and I've had no idea where to start with my next city. Can't believe how much I've learned from this channel in just a couple of weeks
Thanks mate! Glad they can help :)
Honestly, I've played Cities Skylines for a number a years and I still found this video quite informative. There's a lot of little tricks I didn't know, like changing the height of overpasses, building a roundabout by following the lines, and the 4x4 zoing. I'll definitely continue to watch this series. Thank you.
I am in the middle of Palaven (which I love!!) and super excited to follow this new vanilla play through in real time. Your cities are amazing and inspires pretty much all of my cities as well.
Your 2021 version of this got me bk into cities, I’ve almost finished Noveria, I’m up to date with ilos and I’ve not even got round to palaven yet which I’m sure will be a treat! Thanks egg and thanks for the few candies recommendation, hers and your vids are must watch content.

*Hey, you. You're finally awake.*
I know how to play cities skylines. But I'm a simple person; I hear Skyrim OST, and I watch.
Skyrim OST for streams?
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Yaaaaasss
You are an excellent teacher! Didn’t miss a detail, and love the path and bush spice 🥰
as someone with 4500-ish hours, I think it's always nice to have a refresher of the basics; great video!
I watched a couple of guides for starters , this one helped me the most so far. Thanks for a great video :)
I’m not necessarily a complete beginner but even still the way you explained everything will help me to get to the semi pro level. Nice video. New sub here!
I love watching how different people do things in this game before coming up with my own plan. That interchange works wonderful!
This is fantastic! Thank you for making me understand the basic of the game. By far this is best content I have come across where you have explained most functionality and fundamentals of the objects and game.
I really enjoy seeing your cities take shape. Love the detailing. So inspiring. Great work!
This is fantastic! I am so excited to have discovered this game, and this is the best beginner's guide I have found so far. I love that you focus a lot on the aesthetics. Looking forward to binging on your content now.
Well, I have only been playing for about 3 months and having watched many content creators, I really wish I had seen your videos first! Not to bash on anyone, but I cannot believe how much important information they left out that really would have saved me hours of frustration and swearing! :) Thank you so much for the amount of effort and time you spent making this guide. So far I have only seen ep1 of the noob guide, but I have already seen what is to come and the help is just so incredible!
What an absolute joy to watch and follow on. I brought it off your store and it was so relaxing to create a city. Thank you for the video. I love your style, the paths are amazing and didn’t think about how much of a difference it makes to traffic. I had to slow it down during the detailing segment to follow on. But threw in some of my own styling.. wanted to copy you tho as I’ve never played before until I get a hang of it.
Really enjoyed the video, I have been out of the Loop with C S for about 3 years and this has really encouraged me to get back into it I have learned so many useful things. traffic was always my downfall.
I'm always loving when u guys start new series from scratch!!
Thank you for this series!
I just now discovered this series and I'm so happy!
Finally, someone who actually is taking the time to explain in more detail how so many things actually work.
No offense to any of the other creators but I think with all of their experience, they sometimes don't think that newer and/or inexperienced players really could benefit with more details on how and why and what to do to make things work.
I'm just now beginning to get ready to get back into the game, haven't played for probably a year or so since my husband passed away but your content, along with others, has kept me inspired and motivated to get back to it.
As always, thank you so much for sharing your time and experience and wonderful city creations with us!!
Happy Holidays to you as well!
This was really helpful, thanks. Ive played Cities sporadically but never had a long term city. I tend to rush and not take my time enough and just make too many mistakes and give up and start a new city :) Your pace of play and attention to detail is something I will take away and im inspired to start a new city this evening
Slowing definitely makes the game a ton more fun for me. We have a discord if you wanna share your creations or find inspiration! :)
This is by far the best Cities Skylines tutorial on RUclips! Step by step, practical tips, and you actually show us where things are found rather than saying :just change your budget" and not showing where that's found. If only I had watched you before any other CS builder, I wouldn't have been so afraid to bulldoze for so long and scared to use Move It and unsure about where tools were. Even though I've been playing for a few years now, I still learn something new from you in every single episode, whether it's Noobs or in Ilos! You're an amazing teacher, Egg, and I'm so very glad you have found your creative outlet as well!! Love love love LOVE LOVE LOVE the start of this city! It's perfect! 😍😍😍😍😍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Sometimes I get to a point where my cities. I finally reached 40k and gridlock happened. I always keep coming back here to see how you layout your roads and you don't overexert them. I appreciate your help OE. Truly one of the best.
Thank you mate!
Ok gone back to the begining to watch it again, because this is seriously a dam good set of videos, well done my man!
Great video. Really appreciating using more space for aesthetics rather than developing everywhere
I just started playing the game (11 hours in) lots of people online recommended your video to me so thank you very much for this :)
Thank YOU for checking them out :)~ Glad they can help!
Very new but just love the way you do things. Structured, but also flexible and artistic! I find watching you build as enjoyable as doing it myself.
Cheers mate! Lots more of this stuff for you to enjoy 😌
thankyou for your patience and understanding of us who are trying soo hard... good to see Im not the only oldie loving this game...but oh Im so thankful for your content...
I Really Like the explanation of the oneway road around the industrial sector. I feel like it is something I should have thought of before.
Thank you for this content.
Great video, very informative. Something you missed when talking about traffic flow into your city is intersection. Yes all 4 lanes automatically have stop lights, but your 2 lane roads in your res and ind areas don't have any.
I'm way late to the party on this game. I downloaded it about a week ago and had no idea what the blues lines meant. I'm on console so no mods but have already purchased the parks and industrial DLC's. I'm a really old lady who hasn't been gaming too long so I really appreciate the in-depth tutorial. I will certainly be watching all the beginners guide. Thank you!!
Enjoy the game, Sherralyn! Thank you for watching ❤
Your videos have been HUGE helps in learning how to play this game.
Used to play CS like crazy from 2015-2018 but havent played properly in years. This is by far the best video I've seen on the game and reminds me of why I used to love playing it. Cheers and great work!
Thank you bro! Enjoy loosing your life to this game again haha, thanks for watching!
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG haha, playing all day today :)
@@magicaces13 Nice , enjoy mate :)
What a fantastic video. Thanks so much for a beginner guide that is worthy of its name. The best I have seen for CS.
Really helpful. Learned a few new things even in the first few minutes. It can be difficult to really give a beginners guide when you’re so used to playing, but this covers it really well. Thx!
Glad it was helpful!
Off too a good start... after a barely averted disaster. Not sure why, but my water pump was only working sporadically. It was nearly too late by the time I realized it and I had no money to move it or build a new one. I ended up $17k in the hole, but I did just squeak out 500 pop which got the cash bonus. I recovered and got everything back in order. I'm having a lot of fun with this. I'll say that I've done more detailing than I ever have (mostly to fill time waiting for the next episode?) and am very pleased with the way it's looking.
Thank you for a wonderful Noob tutorial. I’m following it completely through and learning so much. I’m looking forward to getting more involved and learning more. Again, thank you!
No problem man, thank you for watching :) Enjoy the series!
Sooo much good and useful info, thanks for taking the time to put this together and share with us all!!
I'm used to simcity cram it in. This is a intriguing insight on concept ideas to developing open organic city
Thank you. All Cities Skylines creators are great, but this video provided the kind of structure a novice like me needs to begin learning. Reminds me of an art class.
Glad it could help mate!
This is what I wanted to see. So many focus on maximizing things and performance. I like your focus on the esthetics of things. My ambition is to make a city I would like to live in.
What a great tutorial. just realize how effective the zoning decision is. awesome video...
Thank you, glad you enjoyed it :)
Brilliant beginner guide thank you. Learnt a lot. Look forward to watching more.
Finally managed to build a half decent roundabout and an interchange! Instructions perfectly clear. Thanks.
Glad it helped!
Thanks so much for this video. It is exactly what I needed to get started on this game and actually enjoy it!
Wish I'd seen something like this when I started. Great tips for new and experienced users.
Was that Coco playing with her toys at 43:09 ? 😂😂
Lmao yes, it was! #dogproblems
I like the standing stones playing the background !
The best vanilla guide I've seen. Great work!
Wow, thanks!
Loved this, thanks for making it!
Watching these is now a tradition... ;) Keep it going, OE! 😀
You have done a great job of explaining, all very helpful. Hopefully I can put them into practice lol
hmmm no notification but popped in my feed thankfully...get with the program youtube ;)
Absolutely brilliant design and play. Excellent guide for new players, understanding the game logic while having fun.
Glad you enjoyed it!
brand new to Cities: Skylines........this is an amazing tutorial. thank you very much and look forward to watching more
Glad you enjoyed it!
Well, i may not be a beginner with over 750 hours of in-game time with Cities Skylines, but I'm learning quite a bit from your tips. Thank you! I look forward to more explanation from you...
My friend, thanks for sharing this guide for beginners, i learn a lot of thing of this game thanks to you and thank you also for helping me to improve my English !
Cheers egg, Im so happy your using a vanilla map that us console players can follow you through the build as well.
Love your videos and so glad you’ve got a new build underway- your the man
Omg God lvl as usual great video. This is going to be a truly epic build
I really enjoyed your video. My efforts have been pretty dismal to date. You have inspired me to have another go. Thank you, I have subscribed
Appreciate that mate. Treat those first few cities as disposable, get to grips with how things feel and you'll become more familiar with each try 😌
Love these guides !!!!! excellent help for starting players i would like to see what are the best mods and starting maps
I liked watching this. I needed to just chill out with you today. :)
Great Video! You have changed my playstyle. Thank you.
26:39 - So that's what those sliders represent! I've been thinking the top represented a person for the employees while the bottom of each slider was for the utility each employee was working with. Didn't realize those are symbols of the sun and moon. Thanks for clearing that up!
Woah. I was just watching City Planner Play's "The Ultimate Beginners Guide to Cities Skylines" then this pop out after I refresh my youtube, nice.
Enjoy bro :)
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG great video egg already have a version of this city started on my PS4 can’t wait for the next video on this city
Here's a tip I have. Save your game as soon as you finish your first service interchange. That way if things aren't going the way you want it to go, you can go back and start over without having to start building it all over again. I've had to start over about five times so far. I am not good at this game, but I refuse to give up on it. I think I know my problem, though. I think I overzone. I zone everything when the bars get full, and I'm not sure I should do that.
I guess we're all gonna have the same city design in this tutorial, easy to understand step by step, i subscribed.
I can’t wait to see you expand this city
this video really help me a lot for playing cities skylines. thank you so much 👍
keep making a good video 😀
Glad to hear that! Thank you :)
Outstanding beautiful and excellent! Thank you so much. Please, keep going!
you inspired me today my friend, good luck
This video was awesome. Thank you very much for this. Especially the on and off ramps.
Glad you enjoyed it!
Been following this for 4 hours and i'm 30 mins into the video 🤣 essential viewing for new players
😂 glad it's helping !
this is very interesting, I definitelly learned a lot of new things, thanks
Fantastic! I love building / watching new cities getting started, so even though I'd claim "seasoned veteran", I still cannot wait to watch this series. Even if we "know how to play", it's still a new map that you are building on, so it's gonna come out amazing!
What made you decide to use this map?
Thanks dude!
I just liked the look of it when I covered it in the vanilla map tier list! Nice little map (For vanilla anyway)
Totally know what you mean.... I've been playing since launch on both PC and Xbox, not sure how many hours between both, but it's taken a solid chunk of my life lol...
and yet I still watch these various youtubers and always learn something new or get some inspiration, especially with starting a new city, I struggle with not making the same damned roundabout or generic interchange entrance every single time lol.
Absolutely love this game, the creativity it allows is just awesome.
Oh my lord. I've been playing this for over a year and you showed me things I didn't even know. Thank you thank you THANK you dear sir. Your explanations are also so fantastic. Really. You are a city skylines God.
You're very welcome! Thanks for watching :)
my favorite part of this game is managing traffic. its so satisfying solving congested traffic
My problem with the coal power plant is the fuel empties and i don’t know how to get more. I usually prefer using roads with medians or wide sidewalks for main roads and other busier areas because they don’t have parking on them and i also prefer using the inland water treatment plant over using the drain pipe because i don’t want pollution spreading in the water.
Ooooh! I like that intersection! I'm gonna try that in my next city! They should build a few highway interchanges like that in real life to see if they would really work...
When I start a brand new city, I just attach a dirt road crossing the highway to spend as little as possible, and build with all dirt roads while setting my road maintenance to 0, and upgrade it later...
BTW, I avoid schools early in the game. If you notice, industry wants uneducated workers. So if you put in schools and educate your sims, the factories won't be able to find enough workers and you'll be spending all your time demolishing abandoned factories...
You did a great job. You have beautiful ideas. I've learned a lot from you. We hope to do more. Thank you
Excellent tutorial!
Egg always coming through with the quality content
It’s been two years since I’ve played this really helped
That's a lot of good tips here, great start indeed!
As a Skyrim lover that just bought Cities Skylines I highly appreciate this smooth transition. The Skyrim music is absolute chef's kiss
love this game and havent played for a while (console user) but have started thinking about it and this guide is ideal, you are right that as someone thats played it before this can be a "bit Slow" but the trade off for me is the new ideas you've given me. Great watch and has got my thoughts flowing even more. will enjoy watching the rest
Glad to hear, Chris! We just uploaded episode 31 of this series today. City is huge now, lots of ideas and inspiration to take from. Enjoy the binge :)
to add to this your detailing is on point its the one area im massively bad at and you've really given me ideas here
Thanks for all of your video's. I played Cities skylines before on the Xbox but I have a PS5 now so I got the base game free on PS plus and bought all the DLC again. Games should really be cross platform especially when there's a ton of DLC, anyway I'm going to start playing again soon and the videos will definitely be helpful in getting things right.
Ah, the walking paths introduce all the fun, thanks for the tutorial, just getting started with skylines here
Seriously what an amazing tutorial & introduction to Cities Skylines! So helpful
Glad it could help, enjoy this series 😌
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG Looking forward to watching further content.
When I first played the game I was also playing Sim City, so the controls were odd and many things were the opposite to what I knew. Now that a lot of time has passed, I thought before number 2 arrives I should give this another go. I'm enjoying it tonnes more than previously. This has helped a lot in making sense of it all and getting familiar with the controls.
omg thank you for this 💚
Awesome play along n00b guide, much appreciated! Although RUclips is cluttered with awesome CS content, this is exactly what I was hoping for. Looking forward to the rest of the series!
Glad you enjoyed! Thank you :)
Pretty sure I can Skyrim music in the background.... Great tutorial and thank you for doing these
Yes you can lol. Thanks for watching ❤️
Thanks for a great, easy to understand guide for a complex game. Just starting out and loads to learn.
Thanks mate. This series will keep you going. My advice to a noob would be don't think you're going to make the best city first time. Treat those few cities as disposable, have fun 😌
@@OVERCHARGEDEGG been playing the VR version. The main game is sooooo much harder to manage lol.
