- I know I'm not the only one who has wondered what it would be like to live in a glasshouse. Well, look no further, because I found an ecological community in Culemborg, Netherlands, who actually DO live in greenhouses. Arguably, one of the finest in the community, is a modified glasshouse owned by Amar and Jeroen, and for which we'll take an extensive tour-both indoors and out on the grounds.

I've been getting some comments from folks on my other videos as to why I'm not safely sheltering in. Please note: I am safely at home in New York-sheltering in. These videos have been filmed BP (Before Pandemic). As you can imagine, we don't produce, film and edit these on the fly. imagine if we all transform our cities into such villages we can almost reverse climate change !!
That would be great! That's the whole idea behind the development of this eco-district (EVA-Lanxmeer) and to inspire other places to do this, so spread the word! There are other eco-districts and measures that can be done. Only 5 degrees below outside summer temps is pretty brutal though. That would mean Summers where I live would routinely be 27 to 32°C (~80-90°F) indoors!

I live in the tropics,a few kilometres away from the ocean, a few mins away from a Lake, surrounded by coconut trees and get lots of fresh fish and veggies, people think its awesome but it's really humid and warm 😂.

Love how Amar incorporates both modern architecture along with Mother Nature in this eco-village. Such a lovely community, would be a dream to live there or even have something like this where I live. Thank you so much Summer, for taking the time to produce and share yet another amazin video on this channel! Definitely would be great to have another "update" episode of touring this place again in the distant future. Any chance Amar might be available on Instagram or any other social media for public viewing? I too live (and work) in a greenhouse. There is one headhouse where my room is located, and then attached to the headhouse are two rows of 6 greenhouses each. Part of my compensation is being able to live there. I am a student, and the greenhouses are owned by a university.

i dont think id have come back to NY if it was me there. my own farm in a green house home yeah thats ab right.. we are going to build a big hot house and connect it to our front door as a addition this year. year round plants and veggie growing plus no more drafty doorway.. getting most of the building supply for free (reclaimed) and being a builder ill only need to pay some one as a helper. and even then only need a little help with the framing and hanging the glass(also reclaimed from old home windows)

Simply marvelous!! It's truely exciting to see how much can be done as far as sustainability goes. I was fascinated to hear about the minerals the roof was painted with and how it collected and was fed back to the ground. An air purifier!! So great!!

Plant enthusiasts are always so chill and grounded. That’s the power of nature.
I was just thinking: What pet would suit Summer the best? Something that could be taken care of by the person who tends her plants when she travels. Something that eats a vegan diet :). Something that can meander around her small house happily and not hurt the plants or be bothered by them. Someone who really needs to be rescued from a shelter by someone who loves animals and is as smart as Summer. The perfect pet? A tortoise! There are so many for adoption and he or she would be the perfect low maintenance little friend.
Doesn't she have her little chicken Kippee? Don't think a tortoise and chicken would go well together.

That man is my opposite. I do low-light plants in the USA. He's doing some high-light plants. It's very impressive considering how far north from the equator his home is.
Thanks for the compliment! It's a real challenge here but with some trial and error I've learned a lot to choose the best (semi)tropical plants for the different spots indoors 🌿💚

A handy hint for keeping cats from messing with plants: You can't punish cats. They just learn "don't do this when the human is around." The easiest way is to get some hot pepper and make tea out of it, then spray that on the plants. It doesn't hurt the cats or the plants, but the cats learn in one go that chewing on plants isn't fun after all. It will be a little unpleasant for them that first time, but not nearly as bad as if they chew on some aroid or something in the Euphorbia family, which could be really dangerous.

I love this sustainable house! I have always wanted a temperature controlled sunroom patio on ground floor with no floor so I can plant straight on the ground and protect the plants from pesky raccoons! Must wait until I own a home :/

My dream would be to live in a greenhouse or simply outdoors. I live in the upper Midwest, Wisconsin, USA; growing over 25 houseplants and 18 plumeria that I winter inside. Starting to evaluate if I'm becoming a crazy plant lady along with having 3 cats!!! LOVE your home! Stay safe and healthy!

Loved this video so much and I need to modify my future house plans 😂 also would you ever consider investing in a drone for aerial views? You could possibly also use one to shoot first person walk through. I dont know just an idea 😊 I’ve never seen so many plants in one place growing in harmony with the community! That was so awesome to see! Also I love these videos because they always help me with my mystery plants, apparently I have a few heuchera around the house.

Oh my, I pass this village on my way to work every day and I had no idea this luscious jungle was there! You can actually see these houses from the train. Definitely stopping in Culemborg next time :)
That's correct! EVA-Lanxmeer is close to the train station. During winter you can even see our house if you're sitting on the top floor of the double decker train 😃🌿💚

A plant lover's dream home for who else would relish all the upkeep/maintenence involved?
So much Beauty so much fun! I love the cats I love the plants. I love that he's keeping the chickens alive it's not normal for a bird to lay more than 428 eggs a year we did that to them. They have a breeding season and they have one or two clutches of babies and then they're done. So this egg a day thing is very hard on their body and their bones. It's best that you just feed their eggs back to them give him a little scramble put the shelves back in. It helps them stay healthy is gross as it seems to eat something that came out of your own body. How gross is it for somebody else to eat something that came out of your body? 56 years of being vegan I don't touch eggs for eating. Milk /flesh... anyting. Nice to see.
My chickens live to be 25 and 28 and all in between.

Amazing! I have often said I want to live in a greenhouse. I have seen videos of homes in Europe that had greenhouses built around them and houses with some big windows. This takes it to a whole new level. Also, I am a cat lady who dreams of having a "cat room." I just love everything about this one. Thank-you Summer and Amar. My vision for a "dream house" just became a lot clearer.

What a fabulous collection both inside& outside. I do hope the chickens get have a little roam in the garden at the end of the day before roosting... they would certainly appreciate some of that surplus Swiss Chard hanging in their coop to peck at too.
