- Today I have to remove a broken lightning cable from a teacher iPad. If you find yourself in a similar situation, I hope this video can help you out and save you a couple bucks from the Apple store.
Let me know in the comment section below if you would like to see more of these types of videos!
Went to repair shop and they quoted me $200 to repair. Came here and found this video. Five minutes later iPad is good as new.
I should quit my day job and open an apple repair shop at those prices. 😂
please do@@Educenterhelp
Not helpful as your hand blocks what you are doing with the tool in the port.
4 Year old video but this just saved my old office 5th Gen Ipad. Thought I was going crazy when I figured to buy a new charger and saw the plugs were completely different and realized it must've been broken in inside. Didn't have the same tools he used, but the poking end of a safety pin did the trick. Thank you!
I was sceptical but this actually worked! I was afraid of damaging the port. I used the #1 bit in my kit and used it to pull up the broken piece from the left side. Took less than 2 minutes. Thank you!
This literally took 5 seconds! Thank you so much for sharing this. I used a sewing pin and pried it off from the side. I was planning on taking it to the repair shop today. You saved me so much time, money, and anxiety. You’re the BEST!
Bought some tweezers thinking it was gonna do the work but they were useless... saw this video and took it out with my kitchen knife in less than 15 secs, lol. Thanks for the video
I'm glad it worked! Always be careful with a knife. I've cut my hand accidently too many times using them for unintended purposes.... although I suppose the accidental cut was technically an intended purpose.
Seriously though. buy an Ifixit tool kit for 20 usd. It's super handy.
Thank you!! It worked!
your comment made me try it i genuinely appreciate you
Bro what a life saver
I already had that I fix it tool set. My husband worked on it for about 4 hours. I asked if he look for a Video he said no. He was using tools from that kit. Obviously not the right one. Watched your video and it was out in less than 5 mins!!! Thank you soo much
DUDE you have just saved my life, I wish blessings upon you and our whole family, future and past generations included hahaha that's how thankful I am, have a great day. Guys, if you're wondering if a needle would work, IT DOES, I got it out with a thick curved needle. Good Luck everybody!
You're a LIFE SAVER! This happened to my iphone 12 and i got quoted $200 at a repair store. It took me all of 2 minutes after watching this video. You Rock!!!
This by far was the best way to remove this. Number 1 flat blade screwdriver to bend it and tweezers to pull it out. Out within 10 seconds. Thanks so much!!
I was terrified that I was going to break my iPad attempting this, but after about 5 minutes of some careful prodding with roughly the same tools and a lot of patience, it works!! Thanks so much!!!
Okay, "WOW! I had tried numerous other suggestions to remove the broken lightening tip from my Iphone and NOTHING worked! Your suggestion, though, worked like a
charm and now, I am back in business and the charging port is working once again! THANK YOU SO MUCH!
I'm so glad this worked for you! Those broken lightning tips sure can be annoying!

I am SO grateful for your help - thank you! I was extremely nervous about attempting to solve this problem myself - I have never fixed any device ever! Following your instructions, the broken bit popped out after about 10 minutes. Thanks again!
Thanks. Tried it myself and able to remove the tip. Much appreciated!!!
You saved my skin. One of my mobile techs broke it so far in that I couldn't pinch it with ANYTHING. Found another video of a lady saying to pinch it with fingernail clippers, but that didn't help. I got my small flathead out and dug left and right and occasionally slightly up and down (just to wiggle it) to try to mold the thing so tiny and break it piece by piece.
EVENTUALLY, it came out and the iPad 9th Gen still charges fine. Snug fit still for the charging head as well. Thank you!
Thanx for the demonstration. I didn’t want to dig around in the port fearing I would damage it. Hubby had the #1 screwdriver. 5 seconds later. Fixed and charging up. Not bad for a 2nd gen IPad
Awesome solution worked and I pad is fully operational top man. Just for info it does take a little a few minutes to work the lightening plug out. Thank you again and made an7 year old very happy.
After fishing the broken bit out of my son's tablet following your technique, I will be buying new magnetic charging cords for the entire family this Christmas. He has ruined charging cords before, so I'm hoping the magnetic ones will be more resistant to damage. Kudos for posting this video.
Was able to use thin screwdriver bit from cheap Amazon pc repair kit. Thanks for tip, worked with a smaller broken off lightning end.
I don't have an I fix it kit but I use another small screwdriver and it works perfectly the first time 10 seconds or less.
Omg I’m so thankful for this video! The charger broke when I pulled it out and I was struggling with options then I came across this video I used a Phillips head screwdriver but it came out under 2 minuets
Thanks a lot for the short video. Straight and to the point, not a lot of nonsensical garbage like most videos. I manage all my companies mobile devices and was handed this one today. I already had the presicion tool set and I tried using the 1.0 flathead per your video, but I just couldn't get it to grab hold. I jumped up to #2.0 flathead and in a single shot, I got it flipped up so that I could grab hold of it. Now the iPad is charging and can be taken back out to the field. Thanks again.
Thank you for the quick fix. I was about to take the whole thing apart. The second you said iFix-it kit, I was like, "Yes! I have one of those!" My 10-y/o daughter and I thank you.
Thank you. Problem fixed in 1 min after watching your video....using a sewing needle.
Best simple solution, thank you. I used the tip of a large safety pin on the side, avoiding the to and bottom as you advised and it popped right out!!
This took me about 10 seconds to do! I also happened to have that iFixit kit and had tried the tweezers to no avail, but the #1 flathead screwdriver worked perfectly, thank you!
Best technique by far. If you have the #1 bit already, this is super easy. Thanks for the tip
I tried for 3 days before I decided to RUclips it , removed it less than a minute with this video. Thanks !
I'm so glad it helped!
You absolutely rock! I’ve had an iPad Pro sitting around “broken” for 2 years. Busted out my #1 flathead and bam it’s out! Awesome. Thank you so much👊🏼
You are a life saver! I was using super glue to try to pull the piece out of my iPhone and it wasn’t working. I tried it your way and in a couple if seconds, it was out. Thank you!
Brilliantly explained saved me a lot of money so thank you very much for sharing. Safely carried out following you careful instruction
Your video tip worked a treat. Being of the thrifty persuasion, the thought of sending my wife's device off made me very sad. Your advice solved the problem and genuinely made me happy again. I am in your debt, sir.
I used a push pin to dig the side of the port out. Seemed to work, thanks!
Mine was really stuck in there, I got it immediately after trying this. You've earned a thumbs up and a subscriber!
Thank you so much for your video!! It gave me the confidence to get in there and get that little piece out. The 1.0 flat piece was too big for the piece stuck in my machine so I ended up using the 0.8 star and out it came!
Lifesaver! (I’d used tweezers, needles, safety pins, nail scissors, etc to no avail).
This actually helped a ton. I got the stuck piece out in about 45 seconds. Thanks for saving me my money.
Can you pls help me. I do not have a thin screw and my parents would not allow me to buy any. Is there any other option?
a sewing needle or tweezers could work. I would try to convince your parents why an iFixit toolkit is super helpful.
@@Educenterhelp Alright, Thanks.
The cable tip was really wedged in on my ipad. I took the smallest slot screwdriver from one of those precision screwdriver sets and pryed it out and it came out like a damn. They tell you to move it back and forth from the ends but I just dug it in on the side and a few tries later it was out. Now to cancel my Genius bar appt.
Mega thanks. Was working with twizers but they are not reliable and bend quickly. Saved me a lot of money :)
I am back. It worked! Thank you, thank you, thank you. It took a really bright flashlight, a tiny screwdriver, and two attempts. I went for tenacity because the broken cable finally stopped charging (and the iPad is pretty old). Installed the TOPK charging port and problem solved.
Thanks. It took about 5 minutes but it came out. The new charger is now working fine. Thanks for the help.
I feel like I should buy you a cup of coffee. You solution worked perfectly. Thank you so much!
Awesome!! I can’t believe it worked! And so quickly, just as everyone else said. Thank you so much!!
My 6 yr old broke off the very top (silver piece a few days later i broke off another one on accident) today i looked up how to do it found your video and fixed both ipads! Thanks! (It looked like a staple. So be careful of that very top silver piece on the charger!)
I am very grateful for such an easy simple fix!
Thank you so much. I was loosing hope in removing the broken tip for almost 30 minutes. We tried using different things and it wont come out. Finally i used a push pin tip and in less than 1 minute it popped out.
Oh my god I can't believe that worked!! I didn't have a #1 so I tried it with a 1.2 and it came out in less than a minute. Thank you so much!
My whole charger head was broke off flush at the port opening. Frustrating. I didn't have the kit, but ingenuity led me to a flathead bbq skewer!!! 😂 Pushed in around it on one side, bent in, pulled up. Took 30 seconds. Thanks!
Thank you! It did wonder to my daughter's ipad.
Thanks for the inspiration even a blind guy was able to use a bobby pin to remove the two small broken bits stuck inside the lightning port all done by Feil.
My school provided cable broke off inside the school iPad. The IT department wanted $100 to fix it. I got it out in a few minutes with no damage.
bro the school tryna cheat u of ur money
Thanks the video gave me the confirmation that I didn't have to be so gentle with digging out the stuck.end
I was a little nervous attempting It but it worked with a tiny flat head screwdriver just like you instructed. I was able to lift it out from the side That you!!!
Yo thank u so much you might not see it, but it helped me so much and I ended up getting the charger cable out thank you so much. I did not want to waste money.
Thank you, fixed 2 iPhones tonight because of your video
Thank you so much , definitely saved me $ . My phone was at 4% and I was starting to panic just a bit. Case pocket knife did the trick .
I placed the larger part of the broken charging cable back into the port and yanked the smaller stuck piece out. Worked in second attempt. No damage to the port. 😅 I may have been lucky but it's worth the try.
Thanks! Worked like a charm. Got it out in about 5 minutes.
Thank you so much for posting this I was about to go to a store to get it fixed
The piece that’s in mine is JAMMED in there, are there any other ways besides repair shops?
You just saved me 200 dollars or a new iPad thank you so damn much
Thank you. Got mine removed with your tip.
Thank you SOOOOOOOO much! 😭❤️ I hope you have an amazing rest of the year. You’re amazing.
I fix a lot of electronics, but I have not run into a lightning cable tip broken off with little to grab or pry against. So before I ran the risk of doing damage, I searched and found your video. After watching your video, removing the cable tip was much easier than anticipated. Great video, without being cluttered up with braggadocious BS. Thank You.
Thanks for the video. Had that happen to my iPad this morning and got the piece out. Lifesaver
Glad it helped!
Can a precision screwdriver or other tool be used if we don't have that toolkit? How can we minimize the chances of damaging the iPad further while attempting extraction?
This happened to me this morning. I went to the Apple Store they were unable to dislodge the broken piece. There is no way to charge an iPad without the lightning cord.
I brought it home and felt I had nothing to lose. Initially I tried to dislodge it with the screwdriver and a tiny knife, just as you did, without success. It would not budge.
Then I took a tiny flathead screwdriver, with a hammer I tapped the screwdriver head into the middle of the broken piece and then pulled and it dislodged the broken piece sufficiently enough for me to get it out of there.
If I didn't get that piece out the iPad would lose power and then be useless.
Yay me!
You’re an absolute GEM. We had the iPad booked in for repair and thought I would give it one last go before heading to the store. Within about 30 seconds I had the broken piece out of the charging port so THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU for posting this video and helping out those with the same issue to fix it themselves without the costly price tag Apple would have charged
It worked in like 30 seconds after trying pins and Tweezers for like an hour thank you so much
So my the opening on my ipad charger port isn’t large enough for me to put anything (even a small safety pin) in it. So this didn’t work. So my only option is opening the iPad, correct?
I love you for this video I have my ex who use to fix apple products screw kit and with this video was able to fix it
Thanks, I was quoted $180 AUD to repair as an overnight job. Fixed within 30 seconds with a precision screwdriver
Thank you! This is awesome! It only took me 3 minutes to do the job!🙌
Excellent! I used a pick set from Harbor Freight.
It worked just as you directed. Thanks!
Thanks so much!! This worked for me, however my smallest screwdriver would not work. I ended up using a small nail and that popped it right out:)
Use your smallest screw to dig in to THE SIDES of the port, all the charging metal pins are on the top and bottom of the port. You do not want to mess with those
Great! I just got my first IPad and was charging it, took the Apple cord out and part of it is still in. Now, to locate a flat screwdriver
I used a safety pin and fixed 2 of my children's iPads in about 30 seconds following your video.
Best video ever. Thank you! It worked.
Worked for me - thank you. I manged to put a screwdriver through the end of my thumb, but that's down to me :)
Thanks dude. Worked for me. I appreciate it
Thank you, that worked! I used the straight pin head looking pick from the husky precision pick set!
does it damage the charging port?
Thank you very much it worked for me as well
Thank you so much for this video it has saved me a trip to Apple
Glad to help!
Worked like a charm! Thanks!
What a great help! Worked flawlessly!
Thanks god bless u I got it under 15 secs too🎉🎉🎉
thanks!! you saved my new iphone 12!!!!!
Very helpful thank you. It worked just as you said.
if there’s a little tip at the top u can use nail clippers:)
Mine is stuck a lot deeper than yours what should I do
Right on the money! Thank you!!
Thanks dude, this worked for me today, phew!!!
I don't have the Apple kit, can I use a magnetic FLATHEAD screwdriver
I would be wary of utilizing a magnetic head screwdriver near electronics.
You'd probably be fine if it small enough, but I would look for a sewing needle or a push pin. Something like that.
Thank you!
This helped a lot!
it worked as long as flat blade driver is small enough
You save my life, thanks alot
This totally worked! THANK YOU!!!
Just did it and worked. THANK YOU 😊 God bless you. It literally took seconds and I‘ve been trying all morning with tweezers and pins.
I just saw the rest of your channel. Good content ... I’m subscribing
Thank you very much!!!
I'm working on my first commentary video. Might be my first and last attempt at one. lol
Pls help I don't what size flat blade screwdriver to order cuz I don't have one I broke off a piece of my lightning charger in my iPhone. Which size would I get 4.5 mm or 5.5 mm
Or this screw driver?
