Considering it's an anime and not a live action trilogy I have very high hopes because through animation they can be as faithful to the source material as possible
A Netflix anime adaptation is the LAST thing I expected for this book, but damn if they didn't capture every moment accurately, at least in the trailer. Everything they showed made me go "Yep. I remember reading that exactly."
Well, except the part when Alek and his men left on a stormy night. I remember it saying it was on a moonlit night in the book, but it's just a minor nitpick, nothing too egregious.
@themightytalkingsalamander5169 TBF, the Flechette Bats crapping out the flechettes at the sight of bright red might've been considered too much for a TV-14 rated anime, even though the book was marketed for teenagers. Keep in mind, an episode of Bluey was censored in America for showing a horse pooping and Bluey screaming and running, while Puss in Boots The Last Wish shows Puss bleeding in one scene. Edit: Also, the bat puked out the flechette instead, I saw that.

It's cool to see the book I read so long ago come out of the pages and get its adaptation, and it's exactly like the description. Now all that's left is to make an Elantris anime too To tell the truth, an anime based on Mistborn or Stormlight Archives would be really good, but the rights are with another studio, Elantris, which is also good.
I'm so glad they brought in the original illustrator, even if it was just for design consulting. The consistency and the style are going to be great, and I'm also hopeful that this means they were trying to make it as faithful to what made it good as possible

I loved this trilogy so much in middle and high school, that I just had to buy copies on ebay for my own collection. Now I can revisit the artwork again and again, so I highly recommend! Libraries are awesome too, definitely support libraries, but either option works.

Damn this is Orange? Makes me sad. They should just make everything look like the Trigun Stampede style. It was must more watchable than this. Clean and crisp just don't look good with CG even for Orange.

I was in a dark place in HS when I was introduced to this book. It lit a flame of wonder and creativity that I carried for a long time. Its such a distant memory to me now, I had even forgot the name for a moment, but seeing the mech and bio-punk nature, it was like a flashback that blindsided me with that familiar feeling of wonder I haven't quite seen anywhere else. Like being surprised by a dear friend you haven't seen in years. Truly breathtaking to me as the animation captured exactly how I imagined it in my head. absolutely captivating. Of all the highs and lows in modern cinema and animation, please let this one be a high!

If any book series could be made into a anime adaptation it'd be leviathan by Scott Westerfeld. This is a biopunk vs. deiselpunk set in an alternate history of WW1. It's a young adult adventure with a similar tone to The Dragon Prince
I know Studio Orange when I see it! Their fluid 3D animation, models and riggimg from Beastars, Trigun Stampede and Land of the Lustrous is absolutely iconic!

When I was a kid I read sooo many YA books (I literally devoured 300-400 pg books a week) and out of all them the Leviathan books was my absolute favorite series I ever read. After 15+ years I never dreamed I’d see any Scott Westerfeld book adapted, let alone Leviathan. However after watching the Uglies movie adapted (his first book series), I was disappointed. I genuinely am crossing my fingers hoping this adaptation does way more justice to the original source. Regardless if anyone is interested in a YA epic steampunk adventure series I still highly recommend reading the books

Had the opportunity to meet Scott Westerfeld over at ANYC this august actually, at a panel he was hosting. It’s clear that he was very excited and confident about it, and did a great job explaining just how this was coming to life and the thought processes behind the books in the first place. It’s so awesome to see this be adapted; as one of my favorite books when I was probably like, a teen or something, I never thought it would happen but always wondered about how cool it’d be!
I agree. Live action can tell a story well, but with something like Leviathan its gonna need tons of CGI in every episode. This is why I think the Percy Jackson adaptation was lacking, it should have been animated to give more attention to the writing instead of visuals.

Keith Thompson actually assisted Orange on design work. I think mecha and beast design will be straight out of the book's illustrations.

This is insane, I always thought this could only work as an anime adaptation and now it's happening - and by Orange no less. Hope it turns out good and that the other two books eventually get adapted too.

I'm PUMPED that this is getting an adaptation, especially an anime! I honestly thought that no one really knew or cared about this series so this is a wonderful thing to see on my feed! Time to re-read the books!
