Agree with every point, made many of these mistakes during my early years here in Thailand

I have experienced an unbelievable amount of frustration with the Thai banking system, but for the most part have managed to keep a lid on my emotions when dealing with bureaucratic drones carrying out an antiquated system. I think Thailand is fast moving in the direction of Singapore though, and I believe the best thing they ever did was start teaching their children English in the schools. I understand they were reticent to do so because of outside influence, however that has now changed. The Thailand of today and tomorrow will be a powerhouse in the SE Asian region. Things are changing fast, for the better.

Absolutely agree! On top of that you could have extended list many more points. Foreigners not understanding Thai language and culture. However, there's lots well educated Thais who would never want to work for a Thai boss too. As they feel trapped within Thai culture and unable move ahead. Btw are you at all interested in getting more viewers to your amazing channel or are you happy with current numbers? You could get way more!

As a Teacher, regards to Thai labour law, almost no schools or agencies(Thai companies) follow the labour law when hiring foreigners, they just hope that foreigners dont realise they have a case against them.

This is so interesting. I'm not afraid to admit I tried and failed years ago (Head Chef). Often I think of giving it another crack as I am much better now than then. The intricacies of the Thai workplace are many and very different and I agree with everything here and witnessed a lot of it. Perhaps another interesting video would be how to deal with these 5 situations or 5 types of employee. I think I am now quite aware of the dynamic of the forienger managing a bunch of Thais. But how to deal with some of the usual situations that arise is something not many people are equipped for. Other thing I will say is I totally agree with the English only policy being bullshit. Thais speaking Thai in a workplace donesn't bother me in the slightest. My unpopular opinion though is that Thais speaking Isaan in the workplace comes accross as negative. Maybe if I could understand it I wouldn't care but the general melody of the dialect to me comes accross like they are always taking the piss out of something or complaining. They seem to do these big sigh noises alot when they speak it which is the noise we make in Australia when we want to express a fed up / tired sort of vibe. When you get a bunch of them together talking it, it sounds kind of negative and borderline angry sometimes, never polite. Unpopular opinion I know.

The only thing I would like to say about the idea of an international organization allowing employees to speak Thai because this is Thailand is that this is also ASEAN and the ASEAN nations themselves chose English as the ONLY official working language of ASEAN way back in the 1960's. I can agree with the fact that a strict English only policy can be detrimental, but I think it is very positive to provide encouragement and support of personnel improving their English skills and then encouraging them to practice using those skills. How to 'encourage' them could be a whole other long discussion.

there's a time and a place for English... if you want the best from the team, then you need to balance that time

Expats live temporarily in another country, and often live in various countries, moving every few weeks/months/years. Immigrants move to live permanently in another country and aim to get permanent residence or citizenship.
But not everybody uses the right term to describe even themself. I've seen it said that white and/or western people are expats but everyone else is an immigrant. I dispute that especially since staying in hostels in Korea full of Moroccan expats who were definitely not immigrants and in Phnom Penh full of Chinese who were definitely not immigrants.
There's definitely westerners who live 20 years in another country and still call themselves expats though. I'd call them immigrants and that's what they should call themselves.

Hi hippie 👋I would consider myself an immigrant but my visa is called a Non-Immigrant visa. Long term residents in Thailand exist in a kind of murky grey zone.

the vast majority here call themselves ex pats because they are all on non immigrant visas. Impossible for most to get citizenship.

Hi Stuart. I am not a member of your academy, but I do own your CTF book. I have a question:
Why is "et" เอ็ด used instead of หนึ่ง in counting?
I am guessing their is some historical reason, like the way time is related to drums, or perhaps it is to make pronunciation smoother such as adding "na"

Thai numbers are derived middle chinese. The Tai tribes adopted the sinitic way of counting to facilitate trade. If we take a look at เอ็ด and ยี่ and then take a look at how different chinese dialects count one and two, you will see a clear link.
      Cantonese: jat, ji
      Gan: it, eo
      Hakka: yit, ngi
      Hokkien: it, ji
      Mandarin: yī, èr
Only หนึ่ง seems to be something originally Tai.
