Wavelength-optimized Periodontal Therapy, or WPT™, is a breakthrough, minimally invasive periodontal disease treatment protocol developed by Dr. Robert Barr during 20 years of pioneering laser dentistry. WPT™ makes optimum use of dentistry's best two wavelengths, Er;YG and Nd:YAG. WPT™ may be used for moderate to severe periodontal disease treatment.

I had this done and it is absolutely amazing. The cost was about 4000 dollars with insurance covering 1200. I paid about 2800 out of pocket. I had severe periodontal disease. Healing was about 2 weeks before being cleared to floss, brush and eat on the side that was treated. The periodontist will sedate the patient, so you do not feel any pain with this procedure at all. My gums have changed their color and are no longer puffy, breath is fresh and clean, even when waking up in the morning. The gums have tightened up around the base of my tooth providing tighter teeth and I no longer bleed when brushing. I highly recommend this procedure to anyone that needs periodontal treatment and is able to afford this. You will not regret it.

+portscan69 Wow. . . That is expensive. I just had this procedure done today in 4 quadrants for $300 after insurance. Although mines probably isn't as severe or as wide spread as yours, I had a few 4-5mm pockets in my gums that calls for a deep cleaning with laser treatment. I am only 25 and looking at that, I feel like putting more effort into cleaning my teeth now.

@@kathystokes4781 Prostodontist is a cosmetic dentist. I had a Prostodontist years ago perform work on a few teeth and she lasered above one of my top teeth to make the arch of the gum higher. Meaning, she burned *off* part of the gum to shape it, and placed a veneer on that tooth to bring it in line with the rest of the teeth. Years later, fast forward... that very tooth shifted *badly* and became rotted at the gum line. Same as you, the root is completely exposed. There's a visible seam between the gum and the top of the tooth and I can't even touch it with a toothpick, it's so sensitive that it seems me through the ceiling in pain. The gum line she shaved away, I believe now caused there to be less sturdiness there, and it caused loss of bone. I now need to have the whole tooth removed and an implant placed. It's going to cost me 5K for the implant, plus an additional $1200 for deep cleaning, and no dentists will say what caused this tooth to shift so badly. I'm suspecting peri-menopause. I never should've let her touch that gum but had no idea that it wasn't in my best interests to go removing portion of the gum above the tooth. Now 20 years later I'm furious. I now will never let any dentist "shave away" my gums, because you're supposed to *prevent* gum loss, *not encourage it.*
The laser in this video is not the same as lasering away your gums though, I don't think. It's a different procedure.

@@kellycara6473 the procedure itself is not too too bad, but uncomfortable - had one side of mouth done on a Friday, and the next side next Friday... couldn't eat much for 2 weeks except mushy stuff and it hurt each time for the Friday and the Saturday after... but 1.5 yrs later, my gums are still tighter, no blood when I floss and it seems some bone regrew and I don't have the 10mm deep pockets (there were a couple this deep)... feeling better, healthier gums... not sure how long it will last but it definitely slowed down the train wreck I was on.

Go to a dentist and have xrays done and you'll know if you need it if you see triangles of hardened plaque under your gums on the xray. The laser isn't performed by all dentists. In fact some dentists don't even perform deep cleanings-- they send you to a periodontist which specializes in gum disease.

It is *not common* here in New York. Only a few dentists do it. It's probably the cost of the machine. Either that, or it's completely useless, they know it, and no one is telling us. Maybe UK are the ones that know this and USA are the ones getting ripped off. A deep cleaning (scaling and root planing) including the laser here in NY is $1200. The prices here are the reason people have teeth falling out.
