    16:55 "I think that *is* a T-72."
    That's why I still 100% love this movie. It was made in 1984. T-72s didn't _exist_ in the western world, and even if they did they certainly weren't available for movie sets. That's actually an M48 Patton tank, visually modified to resemble a (then new) T-72. It was supposedly so effective that after the tanks were spotted being trucked through town, the producers got a visit from some CIA agents who wanted to know how they'd got their hands on Soviet tanks.
    EDIT: And yes, the "Hind" was also a vismod, played by the French Puma helicopter.

    • @kickZtailout
      @kickZtailout Год назад +4

      I was coming here to make this comment. They were dressed up Pumas and the same for the T-72 as you said. I would also add the ZSU-23-4 and the BRDM-2. I’ve always found it fascinating that they did such a good job that the CIA actually thought they had Soviet equipment.

      Exactly right. AS332's with bolt on wings. Fastest giveaway is the side by side cockpit, whereas the Hind actually has a cockpit setup like the Cobra/Apache, with pilot/gunner in trail, and the chin mounted moveable cannon. They did the same with the "Hind" in Rambo movies...

The Hind-A had a "greenhouse" style cockpit with the big windows all around, yes, BUT, the pilot still sat at the rear (interestingly offset to the portside) while the gunner sat up front in the nose. Fun fact, the Cobra Austin Powers clip was filmed in south eastern Utah and the privately owned Cobra flown by a Veteran was suppose to do the strafing run head on but originally Austin was still in the car, no ejection in the script and the Cobra after strafing pulls straight up rotates at the high point pointing straight down swooping treetop to chase Austin in the car but the pilot made some sort of Mis-judgement either pulling up too late or rotating over at too low of elevation or maybe got too cocky and instead up ending up a few feet off the side of the road he flew hard onto the earth belly flopping the cobra HARD at probably 80mph rolling the helicopter accross the sand until it stopped . Pilot surprisingly immidately climbed out with zero injuries and actually cracks a joke to a cameraman that filmed an angle from the ground and first on the scene. That recording of the Cobra crash was not suppose to get out as ordered by the Producers behind the film. They changed the scene to this eliminating the high banking return strafe. (There were rumors that the stunt causing the crash was added day of and they didn’t have proper permits for the particular danger level of the stunt, some saying they had no permits at all and left debris behind and the State got wind of what happened and the failure to clean up the aircraft fuel hydraulic fluids and smaller debris on the side of the road in the red sand of southern utah which they take very seriously ecological issues but initially were told the crash never happened and the fluids weren’t from them which was stupid becasue the debris left was from a Cobra , not many of those flying around and also crashing in utah. Turned out they also didn’t report it to the FAA and goverment entities required to investigate becasue they didn’t have permits and probably were embarrassed. That’s when an unknown source leaked the footage of the stunt and crash on the web & sent a link to the Utah DWR, FAA and posted it on an anonymous RUclips channel. The production company got their attorneys going after everyone that downloaded it and reposted threatening law suits as the footage was their property and got most the videos taken down but just a few months ago I saw it pop up in a “military fails compelation” where the channel says it’s a US Marine Corps Cobra crashing stating it was an active military Helicopter and pilot even though you clearly see it’s a stripped down painted cobra that’s for some reason being filmed and a grey haired old man looking likely Desert Storm vet gets out not in a military jump suit.
    So whenever I see this clip I’m reminded the ejection CGI flip of Austin was added in place of the helicopter crash/scam. Not sure what Happened with the FAA NTSB but I’m sure they collected the cobra debris and called the producers back lol.

      IIRC Firebirds was the US name.
      Wings of the Apache was the UK/EU title.

    So possibly stupid question here, but since there's a chance the guys may check and reply to this : in that SPECTRE clip, would the people on the ground actually be able to just sort of stand up like they were with the downdraft from the helicopter hovering like 20 feet above them? I'm thinking they'd be blown all over the place.

      @@harrisonsmith4625 Huh, that's weird to me. You'd think the downforce would have to at least equal the weight of the helicopter so I guess it must get sort of dispersed pretty quickly. Thanks for the reply. 👍
