Thank You for this video, nicely done! I did not notice any video quality issues, filming REAL life as you are living it, is wonderful - I appreciate you taking the time. I was lead to your channel for these Duck videos and just subscribed.
Thank you. I am trying to come up with a system of allowing the mommas to set and raise their broods themselves. We have had them free ranging and I notice that the hens will choose nesting sites away from each other. I guess we could just continue to allow this, but we had a serious problem with predation on the ducks this year. Seriously diminished our hens. Guess they were the easier target. :(
You have a large amount of ducklings this year! How many ducks does your family require for the freezer and what are you going to do with the extras that don't fit into your future breeder needs?
heatherwanderer777, when winter comes around we'll only leave 2-3 males and 5-6 females. Everything else will be in the freezer. With 7 people to feed, we're likely to run out of freezer room than anything else. But, sadly or thankfully, the chest freezer is currently only holding 2 ducks, so there is a lot of room to go!
J&J Acres wow, 7 people...yup, makes it much more efficient to grow your own meat...supermarkets are expensive. Have you looked into smoking some of the meat and/or canning it? That should save you some space in the freezer
Another great video. So what do you do with the eggs that do not hatch when you clean out the nursery? I wouldn't think they are edible anymore, but I may be wrong. Thanks again for sharing, Dave.
+Dave Pruitt No you definitely wouldn't want to eat an unhatched egg. It will be off, unless it's only just stopped developing before hatching. Then you'll have a Balut, which is a delicacy in some countries.
I'm going to focus on Muscovies, is there any specific reason why you chose them and have so many? Any tips about them would really help. You need to do more duck videos. Thanks In Advance!
We chose them because they are a great meat duck, are quiet, and are very good at hatching out their own eggs. The only reason to have so many is to either eat them or sell them.
+J&J Acres that's why I got them so they can hatch their ducklings out and I can sell them. I got w blue male and brown females might get a black one soon. How will the ducklings come out?
have you made a video on feed costs for x amount of ducklings to butchering age? and feed cost per yr on x amount of adult ducks? with details of how much $ per bag of feed, how much is fed a day, how many bags of fedd a month?
Will you be doing one on how y'all butcher? Y'all have a great system. We're about to set up a second area our red bourbon turkey eggs are about to start hatching.
Charlie Alexander, they are fine to eat. My wife prefers them. I prefer chicken eggs. From our experience, they are noticeably larger, so 2 duck eggs can make a very large omelet. I am unsure how to describe the taste difference. Heavier? As for maintaining nests for collecting eggs - we don't. We rarely take duck eggs because we have chickens for eggs and we want the ducks to hatch out for meat.
Did you build all those rabbit cages and duck cages or did you buy them. and do you have any videos on predators that have got in and killed some of your livestock?
Does your mother duck sit on her eggs. If so, what kind of ducks they are, or you use an incubator? I just started to raise ducks, and I need some advice. Thank you
yack f zay, the heat lamp is just in the brooder. I bump it a few times when I count the new ducklings. We only use it at night for the first week. It is in the 90's here during the day. They're fine.
hi there , please could you show me a pic of a 6 eek old muscovy , i hatched one it was 5 days early , i just want to know what it should look like at this age please and thank you , oooo almost forgot i have videos of him on here but not an up to date one thanks again
In our experience the problem with mixing old with young is two-fold. 1) Size: The older ones can easily squish the smaller ones. 2) Food - the older ones will budge the little ones out of the way and the little ones won't get to eat as much as they like. Generally speaking, we'd suggest keeping same-age ducks together and mixing only after true feathers have covered the bird.
i had no problems introducing 9 large ducklings with beginning pin/blood feathers to their 4 parents with no issue. make sure you have feeders and waterers at various heights.
People the heat lamp is when they are new born even if does duck look like babies the are a few weeks all and no they don't eat the rabbit poop they don't like crap ,i have ducks ,turkeys and chickens i love them all ,also i have a pig and goats oh and pigeons and 3 guinea pigs
I did not know that. And I thought you had made a typo in the description with the word "safe". I'm sorry for even entertaining that idea. Great video mate - some really good content. Thanks
I do the same thing in my farm, but unfortunately i don't have pictures of my chicken nor the other animals, anyway, i can share with you my website; so that you can see what we have. By the way, these pictures were taken 2014, so we've made lots of updates since then :) farmstay.ae/
Thanks for the video! Do you keep all of the grown ducks together all the time, or do you have to keep the males separate until they are ready to breed?
Sorry James, we don't currently have any right now, nor do we expect to have them again soon - we are redesigning all of our animal pens/coops and sold off everything we had so we could rebuild without them under foot.
Hi there. I was distracted by the bunnies in the background. Do you breed them to eat? It's illegal in Queensland Australia to have rabbits, but we have hares everywhere.
Thanks for the look at the flock & set up Jared.
Cheers mate.
I just love how the last ducklings landed face first into the waterer LOL LOL
ooh yes ,iam in kenya and iam getting ur videos right & clear.Good work!

Thank you so much for the kind words and for joining our little community!
Love these Animal videos... they are very informative and very fun to watch xx
Nice work Jared Stanley It looks like you have a pretty good routine with all those ducklings!
Blake Kirby, all lessons learned from trying it other ways and failing :-) Thanks for watching!
Thanks that was a great video. I have been thinking about having a small Muscovy flock in my urban back yard. Very informative.
Lyle Vander Velde, I'm very happy that it helped!
Nice Video very educational you did a good job. Take care and God bless you.
Would not mind seeing the butchering process. Thank you J&J
MushroomPatch, Thank you. Keep an eye out for the Q&A video.

MotherOfManyHorses, that's another reason we do this. Too many raccoon, possums and fox in the area. Ducklings are easily picked off.
Thanks for showing your system. I will subscribe! Gosh your farm is awesome....so neat and tidy!
Cute ducklings man! They make me feel all warm inside :P
few questions... how does it work out with those ducks under the rabbit cage? do they eat the rabbit crap? is this ok ? what about spray and pee ?
I love your work I also love a good updring anima Is continued
Thank you very much
I too live in Mississippi I just got my first set of ducklings, good info

Thank you for the kind words!
Kathy Looney like me😉
You work hard to take care of those animals right and those are cute animals.
Kiaria Nakamoto
But he eats those cute animals...!!!

Dave Pruitt - watch for the Q&A video

No, I have not.
Like the videos. I have a question. What keeps the raccoons, possums, foxes, and such from eating them? I have to have a top on all my pens. Thanks.
Perhaps the 5 kids running around the yard, but I know that only is during the day. Other than that - no clue!
Great video, thanks. How long do the ducks stay in each stage? How long until you butcher?
I guessed 20. Thats a lot of ducklings.
Will you be doing one on how y'all butcher? Y'all have a great system. We're about to set up a second area our red bourbon turkey eggs are about to start hatching.
Garden Novice Farm, keep an eye out for the Q&A video.
thanks
are duck eggs good to eat? better or the same taste as chickens? how do u maintain a nest to collect the eggs? THANKS!

I see you didn't remove the juvenile chicken. Don't they peck at young ducklings? And also I didn't see heating lamp.
yack f zay, the heat lamp is just in the brooder. I bump it a few times when I count the new ducklings. We only use it at night for the first week. It is in the 90's here during the day. They're fine.
Do butcher the animals yourself or do you send them out. If you do in yourself how do you get all the pin feathers out

can anybody hear me out there is this going out on the internet
I bought 10 ducklings but already had 6 adults what age can they combine into a flock?
In our experience the problem with mixing old with young is two-fold. 1) Size: The older ones can easily squish the smaller ones. 2) Food - the older ones will budge the little ones out of the way and the little ones won't get to eat as much as they like.

interesting vid
Surreal.
It seems like your pens do not have roofs or netted coverings. Do you have any problems with predators at stage 3 and 4?
No, we never have.

how long does it take a duck to be a adult?
Can take around 22 to 28 weeks. Some grow them out faster than that.
Can you do a video on the chickens
thanks! ( :

My chickens and ducks both go through manure they love it
They eat the undigested food.

Ben Jamin, I do not blame you. The word doesn't make much sense to me either. Thank you for watching!

where did u get ur first ducks
We bartered with another homesteader a county over from us. We gave them some chickens, we got some ducks.
J&J Acres
What's the chicken to duck barter ratio?
I think you guys should do a turkey video
May i knw the price of pekin ducklings....and any farm in Assam India
We do not raise Pekin ducklings, nor could we sell to India. Sorry.
i am surprised the chickens dont pick on the little ducks
Tracy Bruring, sometimes there might be 1 "alpha" that tries to pick on somebody, but that rarely happens.
Thanks for the video! Do you keep all of the grown ducks together all the time, or do you have to keep the males separate until they are ready to breed?
Do you sell any of the ducks. I need more female duck got to many boys . I have Peking ducks. Rhonda i am in Mississippi gulf coast .
The cages that the rabbits are in too small for them and the wire bottoms are good for their feet.
How big would you make the cages? The bigger, the more "sagging".
Do you sell baby ducks/ How much?
Sorry James, we don't currently have any right now, nor do we expect to have them again soon - we are redesigning all of our animal pens/coops and sold off everything we had so we could rebuild without them under foot.
if ducklings are crushing each other, your container is too small.
you'll learn more from 50 ducks in a hot tub
I've watched many of his videos. Our ducks did just fine in this setup, thank you.
were can I buy one of those
You'll likely have to find a local person who has them - you aren't going to find them in the stores.
Hi there. I was distracted by the bunnies in the background. Do you breed them to eat? It's illegal in Queensland Australia to have rabbits, but we have hares everywhere.
Ann Egan most of the time they will breed it to eat or to sell but most likely not keeping them
Could you do a goat vid
Bunny update?

We do not have any ducks for sale. Sorry.
Online stores like Purely Poultry can ship you birds, if that's what you want. I got my Pekins and Blue Swedish from them.
Good
Thank you very much.
