    I just found a muskovy duckling running down the middle median of the Florida toll road near fort Pierce. I'm trying to get an idea of how to take care of her till I can get her to a sanctuary. Cute little pipper.

    WOW, it looks like these are as easy to raise as chickens. Are the eggs as good to eat as chickens? I would love to taste duck eggs like when I was a kid and my Grandmother bought them at the store, back in the 40's and 50's. Just this past week I have had some of my chickens laying their first eggs. They are tiny.
    Thank you Allen for all your GREAT information and I LOVE your TV shows.

    Muskovy ducks are the smartest Ducks in the WORLD.. so smart hunters have to cheat to hunt them and do so by hunt them while they sleep in tree branches at night..
    very sad these hunters are..
    Muskovy is my favorite duck,full of personality!

      Who told you that? There are many videos of people hunting muscovy in broad daylight.

  • @SirJaxxSirJaxx
    @SirJaxxSirJaxx 11 лет назад +7

    Hi Melissa, Muscovy Ducks do fly, but they are mainly a Woodland duck & are perfectly happy to waddle wherever they go.
    Clip the flight feathers on one wing when they are young and that will break them of trying to fly, but also makes it more easier for a predator to catch and kill them. So you will need to pen them up for their own safety.

    There is a couple of incorrect statements made in this video, one is the length of gestation of Muscovy eggs, it isn't 28 days, it's actually 35 days. Another Inaccuracy is that Humidity is good for Muscovy eggs because they will actually lost 1/3 of their initial weight due to evaporation and if not allowed to rid themselves of this extra moisture, will drown in the shell. Now the hen does know what she is doing so make her nest up off the ground & if they need moisture, she will do it herself.

      Yes ok we know it takes more time for a Muscovy to hatch but for most domestic ducks it’s 28 days

    WE are new at this and we have a lot of questions. Can I have the 8 - chickens share the same coop by cutting a door on the side giving the 2-ducks there own nesting / sleeping area attached to the main coop? By the way we love the videos

    Awesome! :) I live in a wee coastal town in New Zealand. Unfortunately I don't have a huge amount of land at the moment, but my partner and I are looking at getting a lifestyle block at some point. When we do, I would love to get a lot more than just Muscovys. But at the moment, I'm going to be perfectly happy just having a few of them for eggs and breeding :)

    Need a little help, My duck was attacked by a dog last week, The soft tissue on the back of his hocks was missing... healing well.. But He still can't walk... If the tendons have been severed what's the best treatment for him? Not even swimming in his warm bath. He's been living inside since the attack... Dead happy, eating grooming etc... Not in any pain. But he cannot straighten his legs. If I assist straightening then he's is in obvious pain. (no obvious breaks or dislocation, no grinding etc) Any advice would be great!

    Hi Allen I have a question, we have two muscovy ducks the female have a clutch of eggs under our tool shed, and since she does not come out from under the shed, we find that the male have his own set off 18 eggs under some srubs at the other end of the yard. Do both male and female lay eggs, and can the male hatch his own batch, should we take out the eggs the male is sitting on?

    we have Muscovy ducks on our farm. The mothers have hatched several eggs but, sadly, they all died within 10 days. Their heads begin to droop and they gasp for air and then within 8 hours die. Have you experienced this?

      Tony Hepp it can be several things, it can either be cold, poor weather, lack of water or a dirty stable causing illness, clean out their house and disinfect, make sure they have plenty of water and start feed for the first 2 weeks of their life, also the first 2 weeks they need heat, they have no feathers and can’t dry by themselves... your welcome to comment on my channel and I’ll be happy to answer any more questions regarding muscovies

    can you post video of hatched ducklins. and is it necessary to have moist nets? my ducks stoped laying after transfering them to anothe farm. is this normal? what should i do to make them lay eggs again?

    • @throughthetrees11
      @throughthetrees11 8 лет назад

      You don't need to wet the nest. If the duck has access to some water, she will know what to do with the humidity. When they can bath in it, they will dry off as much as they need to for the eggs. Time is the best for them to lay again. Is it possible they are hiding the eggs? Some of mine took up to 4 months to settle in after a move.

    Hi, I am from Cyprus and I got around 15 Muscovy ducks. the problem is they are fling... I got them in the city and I am afraid of some one will catch them. they re fling top of buildings. what can I do about it... Also is it possible to they will leave? or fly away to find new homes for their self?

    • @coeruleo
      @coeruleo 9 лет назад

      you need to clip one wing. with scissors. you trim off the flight feathers about half way, so the bird cannot fly. make sure the feathers are mature (not blood feathers). you can find instruction if you search under parrot keeping websites. parrot owners clip their bird's wings.

  • @vejentilselvforsyning196

    A sad way to keep muscovies, it any duck at all, they should go free, just lock them in at night, also Muscovy hatch after 35 days on machine and 35-40 days when hatching outside.
    You can also put 10 goose eggs under,
    Not only 6...
    Why do you clip both wings? If you clip one they can’t fly, if you clip both, they fly bad, but will still fly, also you will have to clip the feathers twice a year, as they shift feathers...
    Check my channel to see how you can raise muscovies and still let them live free...

      jonatan lossius no shes female put her next to a male then you'd notice , look at the male in the background, males are massive, all his females have a lot of knobblyness and are alike do to breeding , usually they have way less knobbles (= The most it could be a young male, males sometimes fight

    • @charliesweb1k
      @charliesweb1k 7 лет назад +2

      jonatan lossius we watch the video and watch how the big oversized male is clearly bigger. This particular mutation of Muscovy duck I noticed has big caruncles. Normally Muscovy duck females can have a little less caruncles. A large Muscovy duck would be hard for him to handle but he can do it. But I can see why you thought it was a male

      Let me try... “all domesticated agricultural plants and animals.” Damn. Came out all wrong. Humans and their practice of moving creatures about the globe are a part of nature too, one that can be managed responsibly, hence his wing clipping to keep his ladies home. In most places, a local fox or two will more than make up for some escapees. The earthworms in your backyard aren’t truly native either. Check out Michael Pollan’s book Second Nature for an interesting perspective.
