A farm wouldn't be a farm without animals. From sheep to chickens to donkeys, there are a lot of helping paws, claws and hooves at P. Allen Smith's Garden Home Retreat. In 2009, inspired by a childhood spent on the farm raising and showing livestock and poultry, Allen Smith founded the Heritage Poultry Conservancy, an organization dedicated to the preservation and support of all threatened breeds of domestic poultry. P. Allen Smith is an award-winning designer and lifestyle expert and host of two public television programs, P. Allen Smith's Garden Home, P. Allen Smith's Garden to Table and the syndicated 30-minute show P. Allen Smith Gardens.

I love how each time he lets one go and it runs around the corner, all the other ducklings stand up in unison as if to say "Wa-hey, Todd's back!"
I love how one duck runs over to the group and they all stand up when he gets there.
this is how chickens and ducks should be raised!
that will get us better meat, better eggs!
and the ducks will live a healty worthy lifes!
thumbs up for these farmers!
thanks very much! Glad you're tuning in.
Man I cant stop watching your videos I have a duck and I found out his breed from looking at your videos
great video! makes raising these guys look fun
Stellar video, really enjoyed seeing all the gorgeous ducks. Many people don't realize how intelligent ducks are too and capable of bonding with people. One female duck at a local lake, knows me and comes to visit when I walk by I have never given her food, just spent time hanging out with her, very perceptive, smart duck.
Those black ducks are beautiful! I've never seen one. There are wild Black Ducks in Canada, but they're not really black. Mallards are everywhere...btw, two L's in Mallard!
imajeepster
And Pekin was spelt wrong lol
Yes love that Walter ❤️
lol those ducks are terrified of you
They have a pond less than 50 yards away from this little house and we'll introduce them to it soon.
Your ducks are beautiful they are nice pets to have and the eggs are great for baking but you know that already.🦆

Great video thank you!
All three breed names are misspelled. Oops!
Planning in starting a duck farm. I think we're getting Mallards
sure got that right wait that's a redfoo duck
We raised mallards this year. How do you know if they have Peabody heritage? That is very interesting!
I just raised Mallards. They seemed to enjoy being held. Are those ducks more wild?
Cute duck house... why is your little duck hut painted black, doesn't that get too hot in the summer?
Ducks do not appreciate being handled! lol unbelievably cute.
why do they keep spelling the ducks breeds incorrectly....
Michele S
I KNOW I AM ABOUT TO EXPLODE! IM GLAD SOMEONE ELSE NOTICED THANK YOU SO MUCH OMG
And pronounce them wrong, too
Cuyaga da hell
CAYUGA
How big is your duck house ? Hpw many ducks can you keep in there at night ? Thanks
0:20 cool they have yellow afro american ducks in the stock xd
You know, we've been really lucky so far in not losing any ducklings to birds of prey- its those pesky raccoons that cause the real problem. We had to add electric wire to the top or the cage to keep them out, and we always bring the ducklings in at night so they're protected from all predators.
i have six ducks two pekin blue swedish and rouen they are awsome also have six geese
jeff haney
How cute! I have 1 Blue Swedish, 2 Pekin's, and 1 Magpie. I also have 40 other animals 😀
I have a few mallards that are about 2 weeks old, when are ducklings old enough to start swimming in shallow water?
+colton ellis At a day old with supervised visits to the water.
I know right!
Nice farm
omg some of them look like they're wearing white wigs like George Washington
wow cute
LOL afro ducks XD
I've just wanted to ask a very serious question does high altitude affect duck farming and also what is the perfect altitude range? I mean an altitude from
1500-1800 ft(500+m) wouldn't be a problem right?
nice seat up
also used for pet food like cats, alternative to the common foods mass produced today. cats & dogs with allergies often have less allergies to duck, and other wild breeds
Would it be ok to use your videos? i would like to use them for my audience .. With your permission ?
3:31 - he looks like a giant about to attack a duck village.
Hey its been 7 years how are you doing?
@@icantmemorize7703 I don't remember posting the original comment so I'm a little sad about that. But ducks tend to cheer me up so it all evened out.
@@Ryfinius thats cool. Everybody safe during the global pandemic?
what kind is the grey ones? i have one similar but we can't figure out what it is!
Do Cayuga Ducks gets green tints? My Cayuga has green wings and a green tint to it. And my Swedish duck, he's black and he has a shade of green from the top of his head, down his back and to the tips of his tail. What does this mean? 2 Drakes perhaps??
if a duck lays eggs with babies in it, will you have to put a heat lamp over the eggs?
+EpicGamer 187 You need an incubator or a broody hen. It's called a fertile egg, it doesn't just have a "baby" in it.
How do you keep the pen so clean? I hear that ducks poop, a lot.
Caitlin Riggs
He probably JUST cleaned out their pen before the video, it looks better on him that way. But I just wonder how dirty it really gets before he cleans it
Cleans easily with the right tools and supplies. Yes, they poop nonstop!! On a farm someone is there to clean the pen everyday. A good supply of straw, pitch fork and shovel, you can keep that pen looking great !
I love crested ducks I have one she is soooo funny she thinks she is a chicken
1:39 that's what he said...
sorry I had to
Lol
They sure do, but it doesn't mean anything at all. The way to identify drakes is by their lack of quacking.
The grey and yellow . what is the name of the breed . idk if im saying that right. :( but like is it a Rouen duck or ?
How you keep 2 or 3 weeks old duckling from cold?
Heat lamp
that is not a mohawk, it's more like an afro
Quack!
Duck fros!!!!
Duck Drama😁😁😁😁
quack quack quack
kevinfu1234 Maybe its because he doesn't have many eagles around
i like the affro duck ha
It's amazing how the ducks follow one another. When one starts to move, they all start to move. Why do they all huddle together in a corner like that? Is that only when a person is around? Also, do you provide anywhere for them to swim. I thought ducks were rather aquatic... You'd think they'd need a body of water, even if domesticated?
How do i get an incubator, am in Uganda found in East Africa
Cool
What should i do if i have some hawks in my village?
you need to put a roof, the ducks will get eaten by hawks
technically ducklings dont grow into ducks, they grow into swans. cool video though
nice
afro ducks!!
dios lo vendiga que buen hogar le da a ese patoespero q no se lo coman o lo venda
I like black Swedish ducks they look like penguins🐤🐧
r u selling the ducks? or do you have or know a website where i can buy em from?
when big will they fly away? how to control that? ( Besides eating them I mean)?
ELECTRIC 9 they clip their wings
How can I get my duck to lay an egg?
I own 2 Pekin ducks and one is a boy and one is a girl their names are fluff and diamond and the girl is more sweet and warm
I have a 5 weeks old duck and it looks very much like an adult, except when it flaps its wings, which are not fully feathered. Is that possible?
Yes
No water for the ducks?
do birds fly down and get one
How do you keep them from flying away ?
+Robert Allen Only the wild mallards can fly, you clip their wings.
+BC39935 What about the different domesticated ducks though? Are they not capable of flying?
You can tame wild mallards and they will stay where the food source is.
subed
Where is your barn or farm
you have yours in run.
Do you have information on how feathers grow in ducks or chickens. For tropical countries like Indonesia, waterfowl is much developed and maintained is duck laying. As a tropical country sunlit throughout the year the dominant duck feather color is brown to black. We do not have the broiler type duck so if you want to consume duck meat then consumed is duck laying male. carcasses of laying ducks with dark feather produce poor carcass performance and meat slightly. There is an opinion that if you want to get a carcass of duck meat clean, duck feather should grow perfectly. Do you have any information about perfect feather growth on ducks so we can decide when ducks can be slaughtered
